This Gym is included in the category of Rock climbing gym.
Staff are super friendly. Routes can be confusing as they’re marked with stickers and not set with the same colour holds, if that’s what you’re used to.
Excellent place lots of fun
Great kids climbing programs
Great place to climb and learn to climb. Just a tad pricy but well worth it for birthday parties and other events. The staff is great with kids.
An amazing environment for climbing. They cater from both professional climbers to kids groups. The staff are very friendly and professional and are always willing to help out. They also offer a wide variety of pass options which I find to be very accommodating.
Went with 4 stars because I love the bouldering there so much, but the lead and top rope sections are both outdated and overcrowded. It's old school route setting, with tapes everywhere and random hold types making a "route". No volumes and pretty much no slabby routes. To make things even worse, the place is badly lit, very cramped, and seems to be constantly running kids birthday parties, which can make belaying in lead somewhat uncomfortable when they are running around everywhere. The boulder section however, is awesome. Long open feet traverses, overhanging tunnel, and super interesting problems. I come back to this gym often, but it is never with a harness on.
Friendly and informative staff combine with a variety of difficulty walls make this a fun place to spend some time. There are two person belay spots, self belay spots as well as bouldering areas.
I was in town for work and whenever I go out of town. I always look for gyms to get some climbs in. I came to Vertically Inclined with only one expectation... to climb and get a good workout. But, if you are anything other than an inexperienced climber, this gym might not be for you. I walked the gym looking for anything that would challenge me. When I didn't find it, I asked one of their friendly staff members (just about the only thing good about the place) if there were more challenging climbs? Hetold me that there are a few 5.12/v5's around. Then I reply, "that's it?' He looked surprised and then tells me that they cater more towards novice climbers. Huge let down for me as I work on v7/8's. So I just traversed my own holds and on-sited a bit. Their walls are really short compared to what I'm used to in the states. So short that quite a few of their climbs are labeled "circuit" climbs. This was my first experience with that and it was ok. Then one of my biggest gripes is on their traverses, they labeled every tape with "L(left),R(right),M(match)"... Don't tell me what hand to use! You're taking the problem out of the problem. That's why they are called boulder problems! You gotta struggle and figure it out, get your own beta. It took all of the fun out of the climb. I will not be going back if I ever find myself back in Edmonton.
Really great staff, all very knowledgeable. I wish the walls were taller, but the great route setting makes up for it.
Climb here 5 days a week. Love the friendly, helpful staff and climbing community here.
Been coming here for the last few years. Amazing staff and great routes. One of the only places I've been to with more endurance-based bouldering cicruits and traverses. Love it!
My daughter attended a birthday party here, staff were very encouraging to the group. The walls were fun to climb and instruction was easy to understand. I would bring my family here again.
Fun place with plenty of routes, a great crowd, awesome engaged staff and good music. They've really fostered the community environment for rock climbing in Edmonton. It's an older gym compared to the others in the city, but never disappoints. Whimsical route names change frequently, and their space is equipped for quality bouldering, top roping and lead climbing. One thing (among many) that I love about this place is how laid back they are about membership. Friends can try out climbing and use your punch pass no problem. I've had memberships to yoga studios that expire if you don't go for 6 months, or are completely locked to one person so your drop in buddy has to pay full price. Virg's prices are low and they don't try to gouge you. They are there for the love of climbing first, not trying to make back their investment in a new facility.
One of the best rock gyms in Edmonton. Staff is very helpful and friendly and they really know their stuff. Safety and fun are their concerns. This gym features many excellent bouldering problems, often long and interesting. Memberships are quite reasonable in price and many flexible options. Give it a try.
So fun! Lots of auto belay and bouldering
Cool atmosphere. Friendly staff and reasonable pricing.
Great experience and nice staff I would recommend taking the whole family.
Very fun if your board they have funny staff and amazing knowledge about rock climbing would do again
The staff was awesome getting my 14 year old & I ready to go, explaining everything & the facility was clean & looked well set up. The prices are awesome, especially student discount etc. I highly recommend this place for families with kids of any ages, I saw parents with kids of every age, there was even a baby in the safe area watching with mom as the rest of the family climbed.
Great for school groups. My students had a blast and the staff are top notch. They're great at teaching, quick to respond and know how to make it safe while having fun.
Great place to boulder, top-rope or lead climb. My biggest complaint is the combo of bouldering and top-rope on the same wall, it can feel cramped at times. Also, the upstairs boulder lounge seems to be closed to the public the few times I've been. But overall, lots to do here and training areas as well.
Great staff! Reasonable price for a larger group. Parking is limited. Would definitely return to Vertically Inclined!
Very confusing set up with coloured tape on each rock as opposed to coloured rocks. If you are a beginner it is very tricky to make head or tail of it. I asked two members of staff and was still none the wiser.
Took my 4 year old son there staff was great and he had great time!
Excellent day camp for active kids.
Well run,safety orientated facility
Big, old school, rock climbing gym. The staff are friendly and the routes are varied. There is a ton of variability to the wall which is nice.
fun time and cheap
Very friendly and helpful. They are amazing and patient with children.
Great place to bring our group!
Absolutely amazing. 5/5, Amazing staff and route setting compared to other climbing places I have been to. The staff are especially friendly to beginning climbers and those looking to try out the sport.
My favourite gym in town! Very friendly staff, great routes and stuff to climb for hours. I never get bored. Routes change regularly.
Excellent place for kids to learn how to climb! Thoroughly recommend the summer camps!
Decent price. Sometimes the tape falls off, making routes confusing. Friendly staff.
Great place for kids birthday party
Great place to go indoor climbing in Edmonton. Staff is friendly and willing to help you out with any questions. The gym can be busy at times, but staff and members are normally always laid back and you can get onto a route with little delay. So far, I've only experienced one time with a couple of climbers acting like idiots. Not sure if they were asked to leave or not, but I haven't seen them since.
Shoes hurt
People are amazing Great facilities
Had a really great time here. The staff were great and taught you the basics in an easy to remember way. There was lots of climbing walls to try and a cave area perfect for bouldering without ropes. Great price too, after the first initial payment and lesson you get a return card for a lower amount so you pay less the next visit. While we were there we also saw they had a kids lesson which was pretty cool.
Chill atmosphere and rad staff. Hidden gem of Edmonton.
I would recommend going with friends. It’s a good balance of easy climbs and some that are more difficult.
Stopped by today. Absolutely phenomenal space. It's not a huge gym, but it's got a great variety of dynamic features, and the route setting is superb. I'm normally a stickler for route quality. My home gym in SLC has phenomenal route setters, and a bunch of world class professional climbers are regulars. The setting at Vertically Inclined is directly comparable to the quality back home. Fantastic, and one of the best gyms I've been to. Staff were friendly and helpful, and overall I have absolutely nothing to complain about. 10/10, will be making a point to return every time I'm in Edmonton. See you in November!
Had a lot of fun here with the kids. Staff was friendly and was teasing our girls. They loved it! Lol it was a relaxing environment and I loved the fact that I wasn't climbing but I could still be there and be apart of the experience.
Just finished the course “getting into it” with Aiden as our instructor. We had such a great time!! It’s an awesome gym and a good price. Aiden did awesome teaching us, the staff at this gym are great!
high route volume and low route quality, always 2-hundred children
Helpful, friendly staff.
Best place to enroll your kids to learn climbing. Great environment.
They have great learn to climb classes. Perfect for kids and adults.
Unique bouldering area is the best part of this gym. It seems very centred around their high wall, which has some great lead routes.
A great place to climb
Great staff, lots of routes for a novice climber like me. Parking can be a real pain, though. It can get busy and quite crowded, too, but you just have to figure out a time to go when the crowd thins out.
Fun & challenging.
Their kids programs are great, and the camps we're good, too.
Great gym, knowledgeable staff. A little pricy for drop-in, but a membership is quite reasonable.
This is a great place to come climbing. VIRG has very friendly and welcoming staff. They have new routes every month to keep things new and exciting.
Fun climbing gym that has a variety of approaches and has both rope and bouldering available. A little pricey if you don’t have your own equipment but a fun place nonetheless. Staff are professional and knowledgeable.
Awesome place
Pretty busy at peaks times but everyones really good and respectful of those around them.
great place to go for partys
Friendly and helpful staff. Great selection of route challenges that changes routinely. Instructor are knowledgeable and classes are small; courses from beginner to advanced.
Great friendly staff and a lot of options for rookie to expert climbers.
Been going to VIRG for a long time. It's an old gym but the people are the most chill. Great atmosphere to climb in and meet cool people.
Great staff, great climbing
A great place to hang out and get fit. The staff and members are friendly and helpful. Challenge yourself.
Nice place for kids
Holds are a bit slick in some areas, could do with new ones.
The friendliest gym with the largest selection of routes! Great beginner to advanced problems and such a welcoming atmosphere. Bonus: no bros climbing without shirts on!!
Got dragged here by a friend. Turned out fun. Safety is their middle name.
Love the staff
I've never really rock climbed before, so I was a little nervous. The instructor was excellent and made sure the entire group was well prepared, educated, and confident. Awesome variety of walls. So much fun. Would totally pick this up as a hobby because of this experience.
Huge facility! Very clean too.
I've been climbing at Virg for a year now. The staff is friendly and extremely helpful when you need them. The culture at Virg is great! I have never encountered another climber that was grumpy or rude. The route setters know what they are doing! And they switch things up at a good pace. I particularly love the bouldering area. The cave is so much fun to climb in. The overall look of Virg is very natural and mimics a real rock face. Some nights are busier than others due to classes going on, but once you climb there enough you figure out the best times to climb. Oh and the prices are very reasonable!
Helpful staff that can teach you Classes at reasonable prices And the tags are a fun way to keep it interesting
Great instructors and plenty of different walls to climb!
We have taken our youth group there on a couple of occasions, and we all have loved it each time! The instructors are friendly and knowledgeable, but dont hover (which makes me nervous.) Love it and will always go back!
Perfect place for indoor climbing. I signed up for adult semester program ASPIRE. You will receive a comprehensive and complete exposure to the sport. All climbing gears are available to rent and they will guide you thoroughly.
I am not rating the place on its short amount of parking. The Choice to use tape for making paths is frustrating. This was my first climb since I was a kid. Having to pull my body back to look around and under stones makes it complicated. How ever I did find the 5.9 a bit rough but not bad. I did like the auto lifts.
The staff are fun to joke around with and are always super knowledgeable. They have a great facility and its not even too bad for pricing either!
Great gym and good people running it! Lot of features to play around on. I loved the inclined cave
Nice gym, very crowded though
My son has been doing a climbing program at Vertically Inclined for a while now and really enjoys it. The instructors are great, really helpful and good at figuring out where to push a little bit, in order to challenge the students and improve their skills.
Great atmosphere, everyone is always super friendly.
After checking out climbing gyms online I felt this one best for my 5 year old son. Called ahead of time to make sure there weren't any big groups booked and the staff were quite helpful; this carried over once on location and we were briefed quickly but thoroughly. My son was climbing in about 30 minutes after arriving, staff and other members were friendly, we really enjoyed the 3 hours there. This was our first time climbing and we'll be back, a few of the walls were easy enough for him to get just over half way up before the height made him nervous but as soon as his feet hit the floor he was ready to scramble up agian. Giving him the goal of a particular rock to get to helped with his height anxiety and then setting it a bit higher each time gave him a real sense of progress. One review noted the the rope looped an extra time up top is not as common and although my son is only 55 lbs I noticed how easy it was to control his descent.
Outstanding instructors.
VIRG is one of the more affordable places to climb in Edmonton and has a welcoming and chill atmosphere. Although the walls aren't particularly high and it has gotten more and more crowded over the years it is still my favourite place to climb.
Very nice
This place is the bomb. Little pricey, but not bad.
Super fun time and challenging ????. Staff were super friendly and helpful. I cant wait to go back..
Fun place, good pricing, not much room to park there when they are busy.
The facility is great but the staff are terrible. I've been climbing here for almost a year and I've only had ONE positive experience with a staff member.
Our home gym. Staff is friendly and there is plenty of routes for all types. Go climb! A great couples exercise as you are competing with yourself, not anyone else.
Excellent spot if you’re just getting into, or a seasoned rock climber! My only complaint is that it can be tough to find a time to go when it isn’t swarmed by large numbers of children’s groups and birthday parties.
Enjoyed my first visit here. Will definately be back again!
very good i enjoy rock climbing except im horizontally inclined not vertically
Best gym in Edmonton all in all. They do cram over the capacity a lot and it can be frustrating as a boulderer. That being said, try it out, it's as good as it gets in this city.
Legit gym, lots of fun routes, and the classic cave route is a gem.
Friendly staff, constantly rotating routes of varying difficulty, great for both first time climbers and pros. Reasonable prices if you have your own equipment. Has a good mix of bouldering and rope routes. Can be quite busy with school groups during the day, so check their schedule on the website or Facebook group to avoid that. Most week nights, starts getting busy around 630, try to come before then if you can.
Great place. Can get a bit crowded. Would prefer if they seperated between like a kids area an adult area.
great climbing facility. been going for over 15 years. staff is always friendly. only downside is it can get busy.
Great gym really pack in the runs for the size of the gym
Great gym. Kinda small but they make it work. Just call ahead because it tends to be packed.
Best in the city by a long shot, we have tried others but nothing compares to the professionalism here!
Nice and big. Great caves section but crowded.
Great place for fun and exercise
My boy is in classes and he loves the instructor
Great experience
We climb here 5x a week and it's the only gym you can lead, top rope, boulder AND traverse. Always new routes and excellent staff.
Great staff here. Very professional and helpful. Lots of variety with the walls - scrambling, caves and more! Definitely worth a visit!
Friendly staff and varietal routes. Good for all ages
A great challenge and a fun workout. Very attentive staff. I love this place!!!
Reasonably priced climbing. Not a lot of space so it can feel over crowded quckly. The cave is a nice feature.
Love it!
Lots to climb from beginner to advanced! The bouldering cave is a lot of fun.
The instructors are great - they were awesome with my son and his friend who are very energetic.
Staff are great, lots of routes marked for different skill levels, gear available for rent. Change rooms with lockers -- bring your own lock, or rent for 50¢ . The learn to climb course is great. Lots of Boulder areas of you don't have a buddy and auto belay too.
The staff here are amazing and resourceful. They took the time to explain to myself and clients who just started everything we needed to know to have a successful first experience. Great patience and very welcoming.
It’s like climbing outside!
What a fun day. Taught how to team with one another to make safe climbs up & down the sheer walls. Inclined staff where patient and very knowledgeable. Made sure we where ready for some serious fun. Then cut loose to try our best. Might be a little stiff tonight.
Daughter had birthday party here. No separate room for parties but kids had fun. Almost any age group can have fun here.
Super friendly staff, great for beginners - experts. If you’re looking for top rope or lead climbing, it’s great. I would go other places for bouldering though.
Knowledgeable staff, cool routes, good classes. The cave is super cool. Can get a bit busy at times.
Professional staff, inviting atmosphere and an array of climbing options for the first timer all the way to a seasoned. Highly recommended, I've been going here occasionally for the last 10 years and have yet to find someplace I enjoy more.
Friendly staff and lots of variety!
Kids loved it
Really fun place and very friendly staff!
Not super packed whenever i've been, decently priced, helpful staff, and plenty of space suitable for beginners, which, clearly, I am.
Great fun! Good exercise. Very helpful staff and educational support. Loved it????
Great time. Awesome service. Awesome layout.
Great gym with lots to climb, friendly staff. Marking for the routes can be a little confusing at first as they essentially use three grading scales
I've been bringing large groups of teens here for a number of years as first timers and have always had good experiences. The staff are friendly and patient and do a great job of covering the basics. Everyone leaves pretty happy and you really can't ask for much more.
Great environment. Good place for kids.
I alway enjoy bouldering here staff is super friendly.
Climbing walls aren't very high.
I booked Vertically Inclined Rock Climbing for an end of year party and I was pretty impressed by the price and the amount of time we got. The reason I’m giving them only four stars instead of five is because they don’t have a separate room for the actual party space. On the positive side the kids had a great time. They loved learning a new skill. Remember it is a bit of a learning curve but once you get it it’s fun to come back!
It was my first time there, as my son wanted me to try it with him. I thought we have two hours of this....oh boy... but the time flew by and it was a lot of fun. The people there were super helpful and friendly, and gave us one on one instruction and tips. It was just great, I'd go again.
(Translated) Tatsu Maki senpu kyaku!! (Original) Tatsu Maki senpu kyaku!!
Great staff and a good selection of routes. However you really need to pick your times, as it can get busy and quite cramped.
A wide variety of routes, in a central location, at a decent price. It can be a victim of its own popularity, in that it tends to be very busy on evenings and weekends. A huge variety of courses are available for experts and beginners alike, and there are routes for bouldering, top-rope and lead climbing.
Fun climbs. Great work out.
They gave me carrots
When I was there all the workers were very rude but it's a cool place
Great instructors and staff. Very safe and fun atmosphere.
Had an absolute blast here with my girlfriend. Spent a couple hours and had an excellent workout. There were quite a few kids, but the facility is big enough that we barely noticed. Staff was friendly and knowledgeable. We're tossing around the idea of taking some of the more advanced courses offered, based solely on our first excellent experience.
For the same price as other gyms (or less) you get it all. Lead and top rope climbing as well as some nice boulder problems. Their cave is pretty fun and they have a boulder lounge upstairs
Those who gave 5 stars never set foot in another climbing gym.Its old , short, bad parking. They need to renovate asap , seriously
I’ve been a regular/member here for sometime. I started not knowing how to climb and belay and took one of their classes to learn. Routes are changed often and they have a wide range for different skill levels. Staff are friendly and helpful. Hit up the cave to feel like Spider-Man!
Fun but a busy place at nights
Cool place a little bit busy but it’s fun. Price was okay but for me to go more it should be slightly reduced to encourage my reoccurrence
Bouldering area is cramped and small, and the routes are hardly ever changed. The holds are polished smooth and have lost almost all of their friction from years of use, but I guess you can look at it like it's training your grip strength in a way that the sharp, fresh RJB holds don't. Honestly, if they just changed their routes more frequently, I would really like coming here. When you've climbed every single bouldering route they have and there's only 2 or 3 at the next level that you can work on, it gets really boring really quick. By contrast, RJB takes down EVERY route and replaces them with new ones every couple weeks. So after you've sent every route at your level and have projected a handful at the next level for a week or two and are starting to get bored, RJB suddenly throws up a million fresh routes for you. C'mon Vert, you can do better!
Been going for 4 years regularly now. Great place. My favorite climbing gym in Edmonton. It's friendly to beginners and maintains challenge and social communities for the old timers. They have bouldering, set traverses and circuits, top rope, and lead here. I do them all but I mainly boulder so I'll comment on that. Only thing I'd ask for is more boulders to allow a slower progression of difficulty, but that's a lot more work on the setters and I know a lot to ask. Tends to be more technical rather than strong compared to other Edmonton gyms which I also like. Bonus points for maintaining reasonable difficulty on routes and not inflating climber's egos in what they're truly capable of. Only downside? Can be crowded.
It was good
Doing the Aspire class! What a amazing and informative class!
Personally I hate climbing, but I went with a friend who is quite passionate about it and he quite liked this place. Variety of routes and difficulties
Not my favourite setup. Tape is used to mark routes, instead of rock colours. This makes it hard to determine where to put your foot during a route, since the tape is placed on the bottom of the rock, so you have to peer over until you see it. It was actually kind of frustrating. The staff was very friendly, and the place has pretty great bouldering routes.
Good work out challenging walls
Best climbing gym in Edmonton
Great place to spend with kids or with a friend to get some exercise.
Good!
I get memberships to go bouldering here a few times a year. Its great for all skill and confidence levels!
Excellent instructors. Great walls. Challenging and fun!
Good selection of bouldering, top rope and lead problems. They are updated regularly too
That Devon guy is such a gem. Not only is he knowledgeable about the gym and climbing but he was also very genuine and easy to talk to. I just like vertically inclined. On a side note : I rolled my ankle and Devon saved the day! He brought me ice and helped me down the stairs all while being super cool. Please give Devon a raise and extra vacation time. Thanks!
I've never climbed before, visited last Sunday and was delighted. Clean large facility, friendly staff and welcoming presence. Will return!
Looking for a rock climbing gym with good deal so I looked the Vertically Inclined Rock Gym.
Great place foor a kids birthday party
Fun Evening great instructions.
The staff were knowledgeable and very kind! Tons of fun!
My 9-year-old son attended a group lesson /party here. The instruction and venue was excellent. A little disappointed in the lack of auto-belays so they couldn't experiment on their own and had to wait in lines. But was great otherwise.
So much fun! Everyone is so friendly and helpful - doesn't matter your skill level, it is such a great environment
Please make new walls, love the holds and most routes though
Very good for kids
Great space, awesome routes, friendly staff. The location is a smaller one so on busy nights or when a section is closed the venue gets crowded quickly. Still my go to climbing spot in the city.
A great spot to climb. There is a large variety of routes for climbing and bouldering. It can be quite busy in the early evening. Afternoons are best.
Great fieldtrip, enthusiastic encouraging and knowledgeable staff. Made me want to take a class too!
This is a below average climbing gym, short routes ,old very shinny/slippery holds. There are 2 doors with holds that staff use them and they open them while one is climbing , i fell a couple of times. It badly needs an update if it wants to keep up with competition.Parking can be an issue occasionally.
Great medium size climbing gym. Staff are friendly, informative and focused on safety! This facility offers courses for beginner to advanced climbers and has a great variety of boulder, auto-belay, top rope and lead climbs as well as a cave and hang boards for conditioning. Offers school and children's programs as well. Love to spend time here with the inclusive and dynamic climbing community VIRG has created!
Great staff, very helpful, classes are very well run
My first time back in years. Climbing is a great workout. I plan to make it a part of my weekly routine again.
Great staff; they are all welcoming and very helpful! Thank you.
