Good value for families because of the included swim classes & childminding. Excellent Plus change-rooms; hot tubs, steam room, towel service (well worth the extra cash!). I also love that their are 2 squash courts (1 squash, 1 squash/raquetball convertible court). Impeccably clean, overall. Also the weight room has a good amount of squat racks etc. Can always get on any equipment that I want to. Always friendly, hospitable service from all the staff including all the caretakers (who always have a smile for you!), but especially want to mention Greg, and Karin for their outstanding customer service and competence. It can be difficult to reach a staff member by phone, but I have noticed that this is because the staff is so busy helping in person clients, they won't cut a person short to answer the phone. A good way to get in touch is by email actually, they always respond within a day or so!
Shouldn't be called gym but a $70 a month day care center. Can't maneuver around the gym upstairs without pre teen boys fooling around with all the equipment. Also awkward drop in classes that take up the whole stretching area. Not enough strength equipment and too much cardio machines.
First off I'm a 16 year old female who does olimpic weight lifting. I called to make sure if I could come and sigh up as a 16 year old they said yes but once I got there I needed a adult and a credit card. They where nice enough to let me through at least for a trial. Once I get there they have one sad platform in the very back with only one type of bar. I tried to ask the staff if there was any more bars but I couldn't get there attention so I just left after being there for like 20 minutes.
Clean. Great facility. Great programs. Highly recommend!
Great facility. And open until late most nights.
While offering great community services and programs, many areas seem old and outdated. In need of some refinishing or refurbishing. As well as the programs typically fill very quickly.
Staff is helpful ,place is clean, lots of equipment. Overall very nice place
Great facility and less crowd
We are loving the YMCA for our kids swimming lessons. They are such good trainers and great with the kids and not willing to give up on them when they don't want to go in.
ITS AWESOME
Love the pool. Haven't gone upstairs I feel awkward about tha. Only complaint I have is that the one pool that they can raise the floor on. If theres people in there you make them get out and then change the level and then its to shallow so no one goes in or to deep and if you cant swim a length you cant go in. If its being used at a certain depth would it not be better to leave it rather than change the deoth and hsve no one.
Staff is very helpful

What a great facilities ... Tens of each tools .. Too much.
We have fun engaging with younger adults because that broadens our horizons. It's a wonderful place for all ages, the YMCA!
Very bad Center. Prices are high, gym is very small and packed with little kids. They never answer their phone and no one monitors their gyms. I would rate it zero star but unfortunately google pity’s bad centres like this.
I dont get this place..I called last night to find out how much it would be just to use the pool for lane swimming...to use the pool lets say before 8pm I'd have to pay 15$ and to use it after 8 they charge 7$...I mean come on why would I have to pay for a 15$ day pass just to use the pool before 8:00? What is the reasoning for this? Im not wanting to use the whole damn gymThey clearly just want the money..to go use the pool at the old coronation they will charge 8$ to use the pool, which is where I'll be going...this place is way to much for everything...is a great centre but the memberships are insanely high and admissions is crazy priced
Belinda is very rude. Everytime we come in.
I love walking in here. The staff and volunteers are so friendly. There is incredible diversity and skill level amongst the patrons who utilize this facility and it feels like a community.
So far I am very happy with the services at the YMCA. Great facility, wonderful staff and endless amount options to ensure I live a happy healthy lifestyle.
It's perfect services super good I like it
This gym uses their space really well and provides several power racks and a couple of platforms to allow for a multitude of exercises to be performed in a smaller space. The atmosphere is decent here too, with a wide range of people and abilities. I feel like their size limits what they can have here though, so there is something left to be desired.
I love the YMCA, you have everything you need. And the staff are so nice and it's very clean
ITS AWESOME
I went here Aug/2016, first time there. This place is going to set you back $15. Too high, but if you get what you want its cheap. I went there for two reasons, to work out and to swim. The workout was okay, the equipment is not the newest but they had everything I needed. The swim was something else. The pool is very small, only three lanes for people which you have to share with kids playing their games because the lifeguards don't tell them to move away, even if they're swimming they will be in the wrong lane, only an athletic kid will swim as fast as a slow adult, that was the smaller issue, the water however was murky, the filter doesn't work or they haven't cleaned it in months I don't know. I swam one lap and got out the pool as I was unwilling to open my mouth for breathing knowing there was something odd about the water. Otherwise, something you don't get at the regular rec centers is that they had a ping pong table. Not much here to offer and even if they did, the pool was dirty.
I phoned them about the gym use and i am not a member so asked them if they had basketballs i could use and they said yes, and when i arrived there that same day and asked if i could use a basketball but they said there policy changed and only members could use there balls ,which sucked because it was a forty minute walk in December
I would give it more stars if the hot tub wasn't always closed never go there midweek hot tubs always closed it seems like and they won't let you use the VIP jacuzzi when they're cleaning the hot tub
The main hot tub is always out of service. I’ve been coming here now for the past few years and have seen this on a regular basis. I think it’s time for this location to get a new one ? Just my suggestion.
Exercise there twice in the morning and evening during weekdays. Hopefully they will fully be open soon for weekends.
The Jamie Platz YMCA is home away from home for both of us. We have so many friends and acquaintances we have met while exercising. Our health is better and our core strength is far improved with several years of regular workouts. We enjoy conversing with some of the Seniors with Parkinson's or other maladies to encourage them. And we have fun engaging with younger adults because that broadens our horizons. It's a wonderful place for all ages, the YMCA!
Wondered about prices, I left a msg last week asking for a return call so I could find out admission prices. No call back yet, also I took myself and 2 boys swimming at a cost of $12.00 each. Too expensive for me. I'll stick to city of Edmonton.
Too often understaffed and seemingly overwhelmed. Something as simple as getting hold of somebody through the main switchboard number can be an ordeal. It's hit and miss -- there have been times when half-a-dozen calls over the course of an hour go unanswered. During open-gym times it can be overcrowded with virtually no staff to even casually oversee what's going on. Not optimal when young children are playing alongside teenagers and adults. Too often, younger kids looking to play basketball, for example, are left waiting on the sidelines when older participants take over the floor. The facility itself is fine, but the level of staffing isn't close to what it should be during busy times.
This place sure has grown over the years. It's an all around, amazing place to bring your family.
Clean facility, friendly staff, all in all awesome.
Old machines, few machines, super expensive. Ranging from 70 to 110 dollars a month. West Edmonton mall crunch gym is 5 times more machines that are brand new and better for 10 dollars to 20 dollars a month. Avoid the YMCA like the plague, its a daycare for 5 years old children.
Good facility with lots of options
The hotub is currently down cleaning April 4 2018. One staff has informed me that the hot tup is drained weekly on Wednesdays.
Overpriced. I don't know why they charge 70$ for people who just want to use the gym. You have access to basketball court, pool and other stuff but many people don't actually need that and don't use that. Anyway, pool is always so crouded with the kids, yoga classes that is not really easy to use it, even if you want. Update after one year: For a year allready I am visiting LA Fitness and I have to say that I am very satisfied with the membership. For 29$ per month you get much more, sauna, spa, huge gym (twice bigger than YMCA) and so much more. Also this place is still new, modern and very updated.
its nice
A very great facility to excercise and swim at. This YMCA is clean and well organized. Staff are very welcoming especially Adam he was very helpful with any questions I had and always has a smile on when you walk through the door. Aswell I love they have the wide range of classes and activities you can enjoy. The only thing i found annoying is there is no yellow line in front of the dumbell rack, I find people always excercise right in front of the rack so i find my self waiting time to time for someone to move just to grab weights. Other than that amazing place to bring your family.
A really nice YMCA does a lot for the community
My original impression of the swimming program was not so positive, as at times they were understaffed, unorganized, different instructors every week teaching my son, etc. But there is one individual who throughout all of this chaos, stood out...Abdul who is the coordinator there and is truly amazing. They would be so lost without him due to them never having a Supervisor/Manager on staff. Abdul covered every position during his shift from life guard, coordinator and swimming instructor, just to keep everything running as smooth as he could without the proper means to do so. But what I would like to point out and what means the most to me is that he, helped my son learn to swim after a near drowning experience (during lessons). Abdul was companionate, patient, understanding and attentive. He talked to my son every class regardless if he was the instructor or not, he made sure that his instructors understood my son's fears and how to accommodate them, but most of all, he took the time to go into the water yesterday with the instructor and made sure my son was comfortable enough to move past his insecurities and move up to the next level. People like Abdul deserve recognition for their dedication and love for what they do, but also for their sense of companion and humanity for others. You are truly a rare and special persona and we thank you, Abdul.
Kids love the swimming classes and I love the spin classes - it keeps the whole family happy lol. Only suggestion is to keep the locker rooms a little cleaner otherwise we are thrilled to be here
There needs to be better signage for pool area in respect to no pictures being taken and which pool is used for public events and which pool is used for swimming lessons people constantly end up in the swimming lesson pool where they don’t belong
Nice place to workout
Just having bad bad experience. Just happen now. Swimming instructor just send out my kid from pool after giving 5mins of lesson. Send my kid with lifeguard to the office without any explanation. Luckily I was here & i was shocked to see this rude act by instructor and after that me and my kid did wait for 25mins to having conversation about this matter with their supervisor.because there was only one person working in the office at that moment. They said "oh! its the last week of our instructor" However supervisor did arrange a spot for my kid in next hour class. Thanks for that. But this is not the way to teaching and handling the kids, totally unprofessional behavior with my kid. Looking forward an answer from manager if possible.
Everything is amazing except the Wibbit or however you spell it isn't placed on every Saturday in the pool. Most of the time the managers excuse is that there is not enough staff available.
It's a good place swimming pool is nice gym is good judo to
Waoted in line for 40 minutes while the 1 SINGLE person at the desk talked to a single couple. Ridiculously bad service. Gym in nice
Can't give amy less than one star The customer service is worst. No one is ever there. If they are there pretend to be busy. Keep you waiting for no reason. Do not go there especially if you are just going to ask a question
First YMCA I used in Edmonton and it is a great place. Great place to take the kid swimming and Moo's Juice for a snack afterwards.
Great manager. Heather called me and helped me solve an issue I had with my child’s swimming lessons.
Although a little pricy(which is completely reasonable since being a charity) the staff are always so friendly and the place is very clean. My only complaint is some of the machines are a little outdated. :)
I live the size. Small and quiet. However, receptionists are way too slow. They need to hire more front desk staff.
How can they call themselves a none profit organizations and charge $120 a month! $60 bi weekly. That’s unheard of. This isn’t Beverly Hills. People want to work out or swim and shouldn’t have to go broke to be able to do it. It’s one thing to be a bit higher priced then other gyms and pools and recreation centres but to be more then double then everyone else is ridiculous. Will not go to this place ever. And would strongly recommend others to go to literally any other place as it will be atleast half the price for the same thing or more.
Excellent group fitness and the staff are amazing!
Good Jamie
1. Overpriced gym with bad floorings and old equipment that are almost always out of order. 2. No one ever picks up the phone when I try to call for more info, even when the mangers are clearly visible doing nothing while sitting inside the office all the time. 3. Registration/help desk is always understaffed and there is always a long wait to see that single person to get help.
Loved it my child loves to swim and overall best place I've ever went to
Clean, friendly nice staff awsome place to workout. Lost weight here, come here everyday. Awsome mens room. Would recommend to anyone.
Great program after school!
Awesome facility for family
I usually like to go at the Jamie Platz YMCA to do lane swimming. I have gone multiple times as a "non-member", consistently paying their $7 rate. I was told by a staff member who works there that "non-members" ARE allowed to go into the pool during NON public swim times if they are doing lane swimming, as at least 1 lane is always open. I have been doing this for quite a while. A couple months ago a YMCA staff member charged me $17 instead of the regular $7 and insisted to me that this IS the price that I have to pay. So I paid, even though I disagreed. Today, I go into the Jamie Platz YMCA and was told by a male staff member that I am 'not allowed' to do lane swimming because I am not a member. I told him that I have been repeatedly let in as a non-member, and told by other staff that this IS allowed, and he didn't care and told me that it's "just the way it is". SO, Jamie Platz YMCA, I understand that non-members might not be allowed to lane swim during hours that aren't for the public, and I understand that the prices may be $17 instead of $7, however I would really appreciate it if you has some CONSISTENCY among your staff on what the rules are- because clearly nobody actually knows, and it's extremely unprofessional. Will I be going to the YMCA for swimming anymore? No. The Macewan staff are much nicer. Will I give you a 5 star rating? No. Because I definitely had a negative experience more than once.
Pricing for seniors age is 65 where in fact there are a lot of seniors who retire at 55!! This policy should be looked at!!
Parking lot right now here is an icy mess. Saw people slip and fall over. They should at least sand it.
Every time we go the staff don’t seem to know exactly what’s going on. And pointing to sign that doesn’t actually make logical sense doesn’t help. Nd every time we’ve gone to swim an hour or so after public swim starts it’s somehow already at pool cap. Meanwhile when we’ve gone to visit there was far more people then their usual pool cap.
