This Gym corresponds to the category of Fitness center.
It's a great gym to workout at and the trainer's are awesome too.
Friendly helpful staff
Avoid being a member of gymvmt at any cost. They will give you fake promises to sign you up and then keep charging you even after you have cancelled your membership. At this moment i owe a refund of $281 and all i hear from them is you need to contact the head office but they are running a little behind but they never get back to you. If your head office is behind why do they not forget to charge us. Avoid going to this location at any cost.
Just started going there and are big time impressed with the gym and staff
Be careful to get the information you are provided with in writing. High staff turnover resulted in my membership being pushed off through 4 different people. As my partner works out at this gym I was cooperate when I shouldnt have been. First, right off the bat, they did not honor the membership prices given because the month changed within my 'trial week' which was not outlined. After responding to their auto survey, was linked up with the manager to find out that the sales person was no longer there and a promise to better handle the situation. Come in to finish the paperwork, and yet again another person gone to be passed off to another new manager. From there came into sign the paperwork and yet again passed off to another person. After trying to submit my first travel receipts (I travel for work, emphasis of this was made from day one) I found out what i was initially told was not true (that i would get credited not refunded for the time gone) and that the awesome flexible $99 crenelation would void out any credited time I accumulate. Meaning, if I end up moving for work and have to cancel I would lose all the time i credited. Even still at this point, I still wanted to proceed however the 2 year contract would no longer work given all this. Locally, refused to do anything about it, in fact in email lied to me and took personal accountability for something he had nothing to do with. Have reached out to head office, heard nothing back as of yet. Also, after 2 months, no referral paid out to my partner who referred me. The gym itself is a good gym, some of the trainers are great. Just make sure you get ANYTHING they promise in writing.
I’ve been training with Will for over a year and it is the beat decision I have made for myself. I am stronger than I have ever been and can do exercises I never thought possible when I first started training. Will is very encouraging and pushes you to be your best in and out of the gym. Training with Will has kept me accountable and I have no plans of stopping. The entire staff at this location is helpful and friendly.
Been working out in Calgary for over 10 years and tried every gym in the south, this is by far my favorite. Great staff, clean, never over busy!
Great facility with plenty of equipment to choose from. Even on the busiest of days I never need to wait for a machine or set of weights.
Cancelled membership May 21 and they're charging me until July 14...WTF? Money grabbers.
Great location with lots of space and equipment to work out. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable.
Clean locker rooms, steam sauna, great staff, but a strange layout for some equipment. I love doing my classes here this is an excellent gym considering they deal with clients and personal trainer students they deal with it in a most professional manner. The clients are always pretty patient with the students as well which makes for a great environment for people who are new to working out to feel welcome. ????️♀️????
Warning. $108 cancellation fee. Pay for a lump sum or avoid altogether. Edit: got a call from the manager saying that other clubs charge 600 dollars to break a contract. Other clubs could also smack you over the head with a wet pool noodle for all that matters, one month notice should be all that is needed to cancel any membership. The way gyms think they can get away with gouging hardworking Canadians and veterans is outrageous. Staff were great and understanding though.
At first I was unsure because of the size of the gym, but after a couple of sessions of working out, it was amazing. The staff are friendly and helpful, and the atmosphere in the gym is friendly and accepting. Would highly recommend this gym. My wife is signing up today she loved her trial so much!
The only reason they get one star is because I can't post any lower. I cancelled my membership and personal training and specifically asked if it was effective immediately. They assured me that it most definitely was, and then proceeded to take two more payments out of my account. My husband had the same problem - he even blocked them from taking payments. So World Health changed there name just a tad and got around his block. They are swindlers who are only looking to make a buck. *side note - Wayne at this location is the most amazing personal trainer. The only reason I stayed as long as I did is because of him. Wayne definitely gets a five star review from me*
Names funny now but the gyms great!
My personal trainer Austin is phenomenal! He always goes above and beyond what you’d expect from a trainer. I’ve been training with him for almost 7 months, and in that time I’ve gone from being pretty fit to being completely unable to stop myself from checking myself out in the mirror constantly. (I had been going to world health for about 4 years prior). I can’t believe how much better it look and feel! I’m much stronger too. I had previously only been working out once a week, but Austin insisted on getting me in twice a week. I am SO glad I did. Having more consistency has made a massive difference. Thank you Austin!!
Signed up for this gym a month ago because it’s convenient for me. It has an impressive open layout and is quite spacious. I like that it isn’t super busy so a lot of equipment are available. This gym also has a solid steam room. I love that it’s a 24 hour gym because it fits my schedule. Staff are pretty friendly and the fees for this gym are comparatively lower than previous gyms I’ve gone to. :)
Nice gym with a high ceiling. It has everything you need. The showers with towel service are really nice addition. 35 dollar biweekly but I have visited other gyms reasonably close by and this is definitely the nicest one so it's worth it.
My one -year contract expired but GYMVMT still charge me until they think it would be enough for them. No words about COVID closures, no explanation about the income nothing they accept! Stay away!
Friendly, well-managed and clean. Great gym.
This place is such a rip-off. They lied to us and said you can do a 14 day free trial, we found out later they don't actually do 14 day trials... then we found 2 charges on our credit card. We went to talk to them and they said that they "forgot" to call us to let us know they were going charge us. Its been such a frustrating process trying to get our money back. Would never ever recommend. We went with the new YMCA location in the SE instead.
Just started here, the staff is super nice they are showing me lots and helping me get back on track. It’s a nice place also cleaner than most. I personally really like it.
Do not go, they charged me even when I canceled it. I’ve been calling this location over and over again and they have not given me a proper response.
Very clean, front desk agents are incredibly warm and welcoming, and the gym is right off the 39 train. Solid location to train at.
Convenient location. Good equipment. Would be better if there were more amenities on gym floor
Called in to freeze my account as I was told I can and they told me I can't without a doctors note. So I said I'd like to cancel and was put on hold multiple times while the representative on the phone asked for my name around 5 different times and somehow continued to forget it even though I'd state it and spell it out for him. After he finally got my name right and took me off hold he told me I need to pay $100 cancellation fee as I'm signed up for the year. When I was told from the sales rep during the registration it would be month to month and there is no cancellation fee...
the staff is so friendly and helpful :) change rooms nice and clean, definitely my "go to" gym.
Amazing space, with world class equipment. Loved it.
These gyms were great when World Health. Gymvmt closed the Edgemont location permanently with a 12 hour notice before reopening after lockdowns. As that was my home gym for over 5 years, I had to cancel my membership. I immediately filled out the form they emailed me in regards to cancelling, which was well over 2 weeks ago. They assure they will timestamp all emails, yet today I still got my bi-weekly gym fee(executive fee by the way) for a gym that doesn't even exist anymore. No communication, no follow up. Like they so busy they can't even courtesy E-MAIL to address my issue, no problem charging my card though. Really really poor poor management and non professional. Real shame as the Edgemont location was one of the greatest facilities in the city.
Great staff! Lots of space and large variety of equipment. Very clean locker rooms and steam room is great. Marc Gagne’s workout are the most challenging and productive you will ever do. He adapts to each individual’s weaknesses to make them better. Great guy you can just chat with as well.
Great selection of equipment and classes. Yoga classes are especially well done.
World Health Macleod provides everything one needs in a gym. There is an abundance of equipment that is well diversified to meet your specific training goals. Fee's are competitive and affordable. There are multiple options for training sessions as trainers are accommodating, encouraging and companionable. Change rooms and showers are well taken care of, clean and spacious. Set your goals, get a membership and get it done!
This is the place to keep yourself healthy and happy. My personal trainer, Justin, greatly helps me achieve my goals both physically and mentally.
I enjoy this gym, I used to come here when it was World Health and moved to Anytime Fitness because it was right beside my office when I worked downtown. Enter Covid-19 and this location is more convenient, it's also a better facility with more equipment and a I'm saving $10/month. There's a nice change room, with a great steam room at this location for when this pandemic ends. It's pretty busy around 5 pm which is when I have gone so far but it's a huge space so you're not all over each other. Looks to be something for everyone, Olympic lifting platforms, tons of power rack space and I believe 4 bench stations. Looking forward to getting back after the lockdown.
LOL this gym wants to charge me 25$ for a drop in and to take a look at their facility They shoukd be ashame what a joke of a gym.
Love the environment, all the staff are amazing! Everything you need
Jadden my trainer is amazing!! Doesn't push you beyond your capability and he knows just how to get you there.. he is very personable and a great listener. Go Jadden!!
Great gym. It has everything I need and plenty of space to use it. It's one of the best gyms in Calgary. Like any fitness club, if you can avoid peak times you're going to have more access to equipment. I'm pretty sure you could ask anyone for a spot or help and they would be there for you.
I'll do my best to explain the pros and cons as I see them: My routine is heavy on weights, cable machines, and racks. Maybe someone coming in for just cardio is different. I also can't comment on classes. Pros: - the facility is very large and clean - all of the staff I've spoken to are great - the front desk team is consistently welcoming and helpful - great equipment - this is one of several locations included in my membership, which makes it very nice to work around the traffic Cons: - since I work out at a peak time (starting between 4:30 and 5:30), it's sometimes difficult to get into racks and benches and free weights. This isn't the case at any other time though, and not really something WH can magically fix. - coming from a small town gym, the members can sometimes seem unfriendly. But it's Calgary and everyone is probably tired from working downtown and drowning in money and the traffic. And that's just my opinion, not a fact. No comment on the billing, everything has been smooth sailing
Having tried numerous gyms and fitness centres in the past only to leave unfulfilled and empty-handed, I was referred to the World Health Club on MacLeod by one of my best friends...and I can truthfully say that signing up with them was one of the best decisions that I have ever made. In addition to being easily accessible by public transit and very clean (with respect to its size) I would have to say that its top selling point would be its people. The staff, the trainers, and the fitness class instructors are not only exceptionally friendly and helpful but they never cease to make me feel welcome with every visit. I would strongly recommend this gym to anyone who is looking for a quality fitness centre to definitely check these guys out! And if you're also looking for a personal trainer and a fitness consultant, Eric B and Peter R, respectively, would be my top picks! These guys have been with me since the very beginning and I owe so much of my success in achieving my fitness goals to the both of them! And let's not forget their spectacular, fun-loving, and high energy Zumba instructors! Yahaira and Lisa are two of this gym's regulars and I'm in love with the energy that they both bring to their classes.
overall good gym. they do good cleaning however the cardio equipment needs a full deep clean, there is built up dirt in some places. it is a big place and the towel service is great!
4 full squat racks. 3 benches. Full rack of dumbbells and 3 calf machines. 3 cable gyms. I've been to a bunch of different WHC in Calgary. They all have their quirks and their ups and downs, but I have a hard time saying anything bad about the Macleod gym. If you like lifting and you want something convenient, WHC on Macleod is the place. Best out of all the WHCs I've been to in Calgary in regards to lifting equipment. I've only ever been in the morning before work but it's great. Good people and there's usually always a rack open.
They should fix the machines at macleod location. Lots are old or nor working properly. They need alor of new equipment. Been going there 20 years...oh and they need air conditioning big time! I may start going to sunridge new equipment.
Well when I signed up the person really sold me on “I could cancel whenever I want” I was like wow whenever I want that’s cool! Then my other sister tells me be careful those bills can get sent to the bill collectors. Well I plan on moving out of the country and I can’t cancel my membership until I buy it out. All I really wanted was what I won which was 10 free workout sessions to begin with just to check it out and see if I’m comfortable little did it know that wasn’t that case! They pretty much made me fill out those papers before I got to the “free sessions” I don’t recommend at least go to anytime fitness their open 24/7 and they are all over even in the US that was my first plan anyways.
I love this gym, especially my trainer, Joey Saks!! Joey is so fun to workout with...any day I can workout and laugh my butt off (literally) is a good day. I was nervous when I first started at the gym as a plus size woman and he was able to put my mind at ease by being patient, compassionate and most importantly encouraging. Not only does Joey help me with exercising, but he also helps me with my diet and staying in a positive frame of mind. He started out as my trainer and has turned into a true friend! *I am very thankful to have Joey Saks as my trainer.*
As a mother of AJHL and Midget AAA athletes that train with Marc Gagne at Macleod Trail location, I am impressed that my boys continue to excel on ice due to the agility training & conditioning that this program endorses. This is our 5th year investing this dry land/on- ice program that has enhanced their physical abilities, boosted mental strength and allowed their confidence to soar .We sampled and researched several hockey conditioning programs in Calgary but stuck with Marc. My boys love the variety of equipment available , the clean change rooms and a good steam a after a session at Worlds !
Amazing place, the staff members here really care if you are reaching your goals and will keep you accountable if you fall off your goal. Super positive!
One of the best gym in town. I love the steam room.
I have been to a couple Goodlife clubs and this World Health blows them out of the water. Between the machines, clean building and kind staff, this is all you could ask for. I always see people complain about "roid-monkeys" or "juice-heads" and guess what? They're at every gym, it's a gym. Even "those guys" are nicer here. My trainer is phenomenal too. Megan is kind and patient, doesn't push me past my limits but also makes me realize that I have way more potential than I thought I did. The trainers I have talked to there are all knowledgeable and only want the best for everyone who steps through those doors. 10/10 in my books. Can't see myself going anywhere else!
I asked to sign up for a 1 month membership found out i was actually signed up for a 1 year. when i went to cancel i was given the run around by this location and head office wasting far too many hours. they made me jump through so many hoops in hopes id give up and pay this bogus cancelation fee. Turns out my contract had been WHITED OUT. yes thats right ... they modified my contract after signing ... they sent me a digital copy of my contract and its clear as day that is has been changed. after being confronted about this they said they would refund all my money... this was almost a month ago and im still being charged. For anyone out there considering signing up i caution you do not give your money away to this organization they dont care about you they are in it for the volume find a local gym that actually cares.
Do NOT give your phone number to these guys. I have repeatedly asked them not to call me back. I have one voicemail a day from "Travis" who I told not to call me as I found a better membership at a better gym for a better price. It seems they have NOT changed at all, still scummy marketing practices just like when they were world health. I'm sure they still over bill, and cause headaches when canceling too. Better to just stay away. They are desperate for customers - if they are such a good gym then why? I will be leaving a bad review for every phone call you guys send my way, I warned you 5x times. Leave me alone.
Don't sign anything with this company. Staff that works there tells you one thing and the company head quarters tell you another. I tried to cancel my membership and was informed that no more payments would be taken from my account but they still withdrew payment. When I called the head office they gave me some run around about how everything singed is subject to office approval so there's nothing that can be done. This is by far the worst experience I have ever had from any gym I have ever been apart of. Extremely corrupt company and you're better off taking your business elsewhere.
Great staff, trainers are helpful and not too pushy. Great facility, nice that they have an instep scale for members, Curtis is a great trainer!
Excellent facility with even better staff, steam room is fantastic and the locker rooms are always clean. Marc Gagne's Boot camps in particular are the highlight of this location as Marc's sessions are rigorous and highly rewarding. As a high level athlete I expect nothing but the best and Marc goes above and beyond my expectations.
William Getting - An amazing trainer & motivator - The WHC Macleod facility and staff are great. I have been working out at this location for years and love it. Although I have always trained on my own, two years ago, I decided I needed a change in my workouts. Enter....William Getting. A very knowledgeable, experienced trainer, who formulated a workout program for me that changed my life. Will helped transform my body to where I am now in the best shape of my life. Will understood my fitness goals and objectives ,taking the time to understand me, to the point where he knows exactly how to push me to work harder, but, within my boundaries and limits. After a long work day, when all I want to do is go home and sit on the couch, Will motivates me to come into the gym and works me hard, and I never regret it. In fact, I extend my workouts even longer. Will is in incredible shape and it inspires me to work harder and better. Will is a true asset to World Health Club, providing great service and support . Hire Will !! He will change your fitness life and you won't regret it. : Like Share
Some of the staff are very unprofessional, and use methods to motovate you by bullying and name calling. NEVER VISIT THE MCLEOD TR LOCATION!
I've been going there for 6years and feel at home. I've become friends with all the employees and look forward to spending every morning there. It's a comfortable atmosphere and the added bonus's are a plus. Ie. The daycare is awesome. And the comfort of the change rooms and showers make it easy. Especially the towel service.
Friendly staff.
Friendly staff and clean
great facility!!
The gym set up is well thought out and covid spacing is easily maintained. Kadie has taken me through some personal training sessions and is very knowledgeable, focusing on technique.
Don't ever fill out a raffle forum for any of these gyms, they will harass you non stop, even when you say no via text and phone call, block them and they start texting and calling from another number...
I love this location. Parking is always available, It’s clean and very spacious. The best thing about this gym is the staff. I have to mention Will, because is so helpful that even when he not training you, he comes to you and gives a quick advice on how to improve your technique, etc. Also Joey is always amazing!
This has been my gym a choice for over 9 years. I find the 24/5 hours and the central location make it very easy and convenient for me to ensure I get my workouts in, at whatever time I need to. I believe the two things that set this club apart from others is the sheer size of the location, as well as the culture the management has created here. Soon as I enter I feel the positive presence of the staff welcoming me by name and giving me a feeling of community and encouragement. I highly recommend checking out this club and seeing all the things they have to offer, I hope it will change your fitness club experience as it did for me.
Its good needs upgrade air conditioner then awesome! Been going to this location 24 years went through 5 owners...yip
Recently switched to this gym after being at Goodlife for 5 years. I completely love it! The classes, staff and facility are fantastic.
Joining World Health has been the best thing I have done for myself! Making lifestyle changes aren't easy but with the help and support of the staff it has been easier than i could imagine. I enrolled back in February after trying to achieve my goals by dieting alone but joining the gym has made the biggest difference and has done more in just a few months than a year of dieting ever could! THANK YOU WORLD HEALTH!
Favorite Gym in the city
Awesome gym with all the equipment you need
They are thieves they keep taking money out of your account after you cancel your account too many times are they still keep charging you money be aware of that
A really great gym, fantastic staff and a clean facility. I would highly recommend Austin Van Dam as a personal trainer. He brought my experience from good to excellent!
These guys are borderline criminal (at best unethical) in how they do business.
Great place to lift and shred, everyone writing a negative review is wasting their time online and not lifting, they're never going to make it. I have lost 80lbs while going to worlds on Macleod this year alone, you have to want it, majority of these people with negative reviews want someone else to do it for them which will never get them the results they want. If you have time to leave a negative review you got time to lift another set, FUUAARK!
Charged me while the gym was closed during covid. The manager has been rude any time I have had a problem or concern here.
Wrong charges and never refunded from the company even though the staffs promised I would get back over several times I have been a spa lady member since university. I love spa lady in Canyon Meadows. However, I had two accidents one in last Dec. another in March. I could not go over two months and informed to the Canyon Meadows location. I also showed my accident reports and doctors’ note. They took the copies and sent to the main office in the company. But I did not get refund as they told me. So I spoked to the front desk and they send the documents again. I have not gotten any even the end of the August. The main office never picked up the phone. I spoke several times with staffs and they promised the refund. It never happened. I like the all the staffs working there but somehow it is not working at all. Moreover, after reopening, I got an email from the Her Gymvmt that they would not charge the membership until we come back. But I have found that they have charged over a month and half. I tried to talk to the one of the staffs a few times. They promised to call me back who could help but never happened even though I spoke and left messages a few times directly to some of staffs. I know it has been a chaos but I have never gotten back all the wrong charges made from Her Gymvmt I would like to go back to Spa Ladies when we are safer from Covid but they charged without my consentment and never refund me back. One of the staffs told I had to go back by sometime in October otherwise they cannot freeze my membership. I don’t know anymore where to speak to get my refund and wrong charges. This company Her Gymvmt looks unreliable.
Decent facility. Convenient location. The general manager makes it a pretty terrible experience though. Extremely aggressive and very hostile. Would not recommend this location due to him
The space is open and massive with a section upstairs as well. Very well maintained and even better in less busy hours.
Nice gym, convenient location. Trainer was fun to work with. There were some issues making changes to my membership when they were closed for covid, but they kept their promises and got the issue resolved after re-opening. I'd give it 5 stars if this location had even a few classes like zumba or yoga. I'll take this place over the red duffel gym any day.
I am absolutely impressed with World Health on Macleod. They go out of their way to help people get set up on programs. The gym is clean, the equipment is well maintained and the facility overall looks great. The staff are all very friendly--and the two staff that I have worked with remember my name! Membership fees are CHEAP. They even have steam sauna and towel service. Their trainers are top notch. I'm a former powerlifter and bodybuilder.
terrible staff.
The staff and members are all so nice!
(Written by wife) Do not go to any gyms by this company. I say this because it's not safe for your finances and even if you have a medical note for not being able to workout they will continue to charge you and say that they've cancelled your account when they didn't. In 2019 I was signed on for training and sessions with an amazing trainer. Once 2020 hit the pandemic came and I was unable to go to the gym so I asked them to freeze my account, and my partner's account. They continued to charge my partner's account the whole pandemic even though they were closed. He was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes and had to sort that out before being able to workout safely. Once they opened again we went in to see why he was being charged. They refused to give a refund. Later in July 2020, I had a foot injury that required a doctor to give me a note saying I cannot run or workout. So I froze my account but they said I could only do so for 3 months. After several tests to see what was wrong with my body I was told that it could take several months to heal. My partner cancelled his account for $100 and they continued to charge him every two weeks for the last 6 months. He had to block them through his bank because they just kept doing so and no one would answer his emails or calls. I cancelled my account right after my partner and now they are calling me and texting me today saying that I didn't cancel my account 6 months ago. That I had outstanding training sessions on my account. My trainer was not given her job back after the pandemic. So I tried two other trainers (both which were great) but I was using up the training sessions I paid for and the "free" ones that they say you get each month (which is 1 per month). They are now calling and texting me over 6 months AFTER I terminated my account due to medical concerns saying I owe them for training sessions. If that was the case, their system should have said "cannot complete termination until outstanding amount is paid in full" Luckily I had to freeze my credit card a few months ago and got a new one instead. I'm tired of a company that doesn't value its people. Yes the gyms are nice and yes the trainers I had personally were amazing but the politics and behind the scenes of never being refunded, constantly charged, and they don't remember anything you tell them which means you get transferred from one person to another who doesn't know what's going on, has made me very upset with this company. This is not how you treat those who you want to give a good experience and a safe place to workout. It's not safe to have people who don't communicate, have hidden things in their contracts, and try to say you still owe them after you've cancelled and were told you are squared up. Please don't make the mistake I did.
Biggest location (most open space) really friendly staff, most members are really easy going and approachable.
I have been attending this facility for a year now and it has been great! The staff are friendly and personable, they even know you by name when you walk in! The trainers are knowledgable and easily approachable. Love the gym and wouldn't go anywhere else!
I absolutely love this gym, I have been a member since August 2015 because I had initially won 2 free personal training sessions and then signed up for 24 sessions and a membership. As a young adult their payment plans are perfect, I wanted to lose weight and get healthy but I didn't have enough income to just pay it off right away. All the employees and super friendly and clearly love being there and my Personal Trainer Melissa, was wonderful! Even though I do not have any more sessions left, the things she's taught me have made my workouts on my own push me beyond what I thought I was capable of. I used to be too self-conscious to even go to a gym now I look forward going every single day! Thanks World Health <3
I love this gym. Awesome trainers. They helped me get healthy all around.
Knowledgeable trainers that do a complete body analysis ( Austin Van Dam is who I would recommend), equipment is in good shape, clean facility.
I was in town on business and looking for a place to workout. Ending getting a drop in pass. Thoroughly impressed. Great facility, change rooms clean. There were lots of people but with the number of machines they had, never had to wait.
Horrendous experiences with this club. Was in school for personal training and the school has an agreement with this club for space use for practical education. Every time the students were in there, we were consistently looked down upon including glares from their hired personal trainers. Their trainers would spend more time looking at us students than their own paying clients. On a side note it was a great way to learn how not to interact with our future clients. I don't recommend this club at all.
I haven't even signed up with this gym. A friend of mine gave my name to the gym in order to receiver a free sweater and once they called I fully intended on trying the gym and told them so once I finished school. I explained I wasn't going to be done until June. They have been calling me every week for two months harassing me. I will not be signing up with this gym they will not listen when i answer the phone to tell them no. Once i started blocking the number they called me from a no caller id phone. I use my phone for my work and now I am too annoyed and worried to answer it.
Club offers many amenities and services. Equipment is a little older but still in good shape and well kept.
THIS GYM WILL STEAL YOUR MONEY. THEY DO NOT CARE ABOUT YOU. In March they called and tried to sell me on online resources or something but I told them to freeze my account. They had already charged me after they closed too In June they started charging me again even though the guy said they would call me when they opened to be sure. PLUS they charged me for training when my PT was no longer at that gym. Then when I tried to get a refund they told me that it was cheaper for me to come in and use those training sessions instead of getting refunded. Then apparently they continued to charge me my monthly dues through December.
Love love love this Gym. Have an amazing trainer Joey Saks who has been really supportive through some health issues that have slowed my working out down. He has me feeling so confident in reaching my health goals that I know working out will stay a part of my life. World Health and Joey Saks get 10 starts form me!!
I’m a regular at MacLeod trail world health and love going there. The location is big, has lots of equipment and the staff are great. I had the opportunity to be trained by William, an experienced personal trainer at the Macleod Trail location and was very impressed by his teaching methods, support/encouragement, and skill level. Would definitely recommend him to anyone considering personal training
I enjoy world health gyms
This gym is by far the WORST in Calgary! They encourage bullying and harassment and punish the victim instead of disciplining the staff! I had an incident with 2 staff members, one (Megan) physically pushed me out of her way instead of going around me (there was plenty of room, she did not have even have to be near me), she didn't ask me to move she just pushed me and kept going. The other staff member (Austin) tried to use his position of power and "reserve" a bench that he was not using at the time but would be in about 10 minutes. I asked if I could work in with him as it was the only free bench, he said no and put a water bottle on the bench so I wouldn't use it. I told him he can't "reserve" equipment and that if he is not using it I should be able to. He still refused, he then went to another piece of equipment, I told him I am using it anyway as I only have one set to complete, I started to set the weights up on the bar only for him to come over and start removing them!! The whole time he wasted arguing with me I could have been finished my set. Instead he chose to make a big scene. I reported the incident to his manager, it then got passed on to someone else. When I followed up with her she informed me that they had handled both incidents and that I would not know the outcome because it is an internal matter that has nothing to do with me, she then went on to state that I should not contact World Health again as they will not respond! I am so confused as to how getting assaulted and harassed by the staff has nothing to do with me. Needless to say nothing was done to correct the situation or discipline the staff, they did however ban me from attending there again.
Good gym. Seems to be well maintained. They have a handy app for booking time slots for workouts which helps with scheduling. Equipment is clean and operational. Plenty of room for a lot of different activities including turf. Cardio section is large, with covid It is a little restricted due to covid but not unmanageable. Overall pretty decent club.
Had the same issue as many others. The location I signed up for permanently closed and I was moved to this location. I called to have my membership cancelled and they are still holding everyone to the cancellation fee of $100 and 30 days notice. VERY unfair and I’m happy to have ended my time with this business despite having to pay to do so. Go elsewhere for your work outs.
The worst customer service! Wanted to try a 7 day pass but they said it was mandatory to go through a 45 min sales session. Was running out of time wanted to book it for another day then Jesse mentioned you have to pay the mandoatory drop in fee which is non returnable and then when I come tomorrow this deal is not available. “We are a private club we can charge what ever we want and this is our process” I believe those were his exact words. Even though my brother in law signed up for a 2 year memeber ship a few months ago and was given a 7 day pass which also is advertised on their website that there is no obligation and yet you walk in they treat you Ike that!!! Horrible service! DO NOT GO THERE AND TRY OUT THEIR 7 day PASS ITS A SCAM!! Now I am trying to see if I can get my brother in law to end his contract I will pay his cancelation fee and get him to join my gym GoodLife!
You might want to review your credit card bill for charges you weren't told about or were not expecting... just saying!
world health is a very dishonest organization, and washroom isnot clean. all my classmates said that they are surprised that it is not been forced to closed yet. probabaly it will be.
I have William as my trainer and couldn't be happier. He works us hard but the results I see are worth it. Great trainer that understands aches and pains and is able to help eliminate them. This gym is out of my way but I keep coming here because of William.
I wish I checked their reviews before joining here. It used to be okay until they took away the group fitness classes. I still pay for them, but I'd have to go to another one of their rundown gyms. Don't trust these people. They're just out to make money. FOLLOW UP TO THE RESPONSE - I doubt there's anything you can do to convince me that ripping me off is okay. To get the same plan I'm on now except for removing the group sessions would cost me $1254/year which is $500+ more than I"m paying now. That's pretty expensive for shoddy gym equipment. I really don't care how much you spend on paint it is the equipment and me not wanting to get ripped off that counts.
Worst gym ever except for the receptionist and the trainers. GM had no idea what customer service is. She didn't have the courtesy to even say hello when I was given false information.
Love this gym, don't like any other world health. Only reason I still go here even though its inconvenient to me both travel and financially is because I like the staff.
I've been going here for almost 5 years and this location was very crowded during peak times before the 2015 crash, but since then even during peak times it isn't bad. There is usually space available in all areas. Watch out for douches parking in spots that aren't meant for cars in the lot. Lots of lazy dudes who grunt and sweat but can't be bothered to discard their used towels in the change room appropriately. I suppose it comes with the territory. Overall pretty good - clean and well kept, staff is good.
Fantastic place to work out, the staff is extremely friendly and inviting, always quick to answer any questions or guide us in the right direction. The General manager Katarina Belcastro is always there to great me with a smile and say hi, a real asset to the organization. I have recommended this gym to many friends and family and will continue to do so. If you are looking for a new place to get fit I recommend you taking a look.
I signed up last week and I am in love with this gym. It’s more than spacious with plenty of equipment not to mention how great the steam room is!
High pressure sales tactics. Scam do not join
Hours are convenient, it's always clean, one of the better places to go workout in the area
One of the greatest gyms in the city with awesome fees!
Good place to work out
Perfect place for working on superset lol ... the staff doing everything for you cancel your membership. They have the impression they're the only gym in Calgary... The staff thing they are the king of the world... Don't touch if you want a good gym experience
This gym is the BEST !! They go out of their way to make you feel welcome like you're part of the community regardless of your gym experience level. It is one of the most supportive communities of people I have ever encountered and the staff as well as the other members are all there and willing to help you and show you how to achieve your fitness goals. Simply put, I love it here and wouldn't even consider any other gym after joining here.
Trainer is unprofessional and staff is not very helpful.
I have been going to this gym for several years - great equipment and staff. I especially love my personal trainer, Will Getting. He has transformed the way I look at working out. His knowledge base is extensive and he is able to use it to cater to my needs and goals. Always a smiling face who makes it easy to want to come to the gym. I have never been this strong! Thanks Will!!!
Plenty of machines and equipment for everyone. The staff are helpful and friendly. And the sauna is AWESOME.
This company straight up stole money from my account and then refused to refund it during the pandemic and closures. They did not communicate with me about the closures and then told me it was not their policy to issue refunds and tried to tell me I had to use the money they took from my account on gift cards or a gym bag because they wouldn't refund it. Sleaziest company I've ever dealt with
Decent gym. I would come here infrequently, but not every day as a main gym. I prefer another gymvmt
Very nice gym, I go during the evening and it's empty, love the steam room!
#love
Gym is large lots of equipment. lots of old out dated and new. charge you a 35 dollar fee for new equipment. Yet appear not update anything. Also with there much higher prices then competitors they offer much less. As example less class's, less hours of operations, they are even too cheap to provide wifi. I would say the overall gym is decent. The people are friendly there. Its Just Way over priced for what you get.
long time fitness girl, native calgarian, been a member at several gyms in calgary and macloed world health is by far the best, the staff and cleanliness is top notch, and the members are not douchey like at golds gym or good life... the GM and staff always gives you a warm welcome with recognition!!!
Very misleading and dishonest gym. My son was pressured into signing a membership through Liam. He went in the same day to cancel and Liam said it was no problem. My son was not told at the time to sign a cancellation and so did not realize that was mandatory (Liam's error) Now World Health is denying everything and making him pay a $99 cancellation fee. Very poor business ethics and I would never recommend this establishment to anyone.
Why isn't it 24hr on the weekends?
Always clean. Almost nothing is out of order when it comes to machines and such. Friendly staff. Ps the cleaning lady is awesome.
Been here, done that. You should do the same
Very good staff and place
World health is great. I work out here on weekends. It is always clean.
During covid they are always the first to close even days prior to closing date and always last to open. Other gyms have been Open soon as they can and try n stay open as long as they can to make there clients happy. Golds is just one example.
One of the best Gym in Calgary
worst place ever. they are lyng to you riht in your face with pressure sales technique and charge you way more than they have on their adds. they also try to do pressure sales to upgrade membership even more after you have enroled. basically the worst gym i have ever been in. yes their chamge room looks nice but i dont go to a gym for the change room i go to workout with well maintained equipement hassel free. that is what they promiss but not what they offer
Hard to find a gym that actually provides good service nowadays. Not only does this gym have a versatile set up and lots of space but you walk in and feel welcome. The staff are so helpful. Great gym, I've recommended many friends already!
Great gym and great locker room. Large amount of space gives you that authentic gym feel. Always see satisfied clients sweating with trainers. Equipment is slightly older but no problem for those well immersed in their form and function
Awful place. Crooks.
I took some personnal training session here with Will Gettings, found them really helpful to get me started and learned alot of new technics. Nice gym, can be busy but it has alot of equipment and space so getting a work out in quickly is rarely an issue.
Nice big place, but I only went one time to check it and try. Apparently that signed me up for a 2 year contract...... I dont even go to the gym. So they asked me for $290 just to cancel my membership. I said "Your really going to charge me almost $300 for one work out session? " . I never paid them because I do not use the facility, now I ow them just over $1000 that's being held in collections against my credit......for 1 work out session...... This place is NOT worth bothering with. Guess I'll have to take world health to court and let a judge decide if I should have to pay $1000+ for one work out session....thanks for nothing world health....
Lisa Balfour Google review I have been a member of world health in Calgary since the spring of 2000 the staff has always been friendly and helpful. The trainers have changed over the years but always remain helpful and supportive. I have attended group fitness classes and the instructors are really good and friendly. I am affected with cerebral palsy and everyone is supportive. The trainers and group fitness instructors are supportive and offer alternatives I am able to participate in and have achieved weight loss and increased fitness.
Someone gave them my information when they were signing up and I had told them I was not interested in using their gym. I was harassed with phone calls for a very long time before they finally left me alone. It has been years since now, and I have started to recieve emails at least every month from some guy named Jesse. Although I have never used their facilities, I absolutely never plan to because of their pushiness and inability to take no for an answer.
Cool facility! Great pricing.
I’m originally from Edmonton but I had to be in Calgary for my classes. It was my first time going to this location and honestly this location is awesome. So many equipment and you won’t need to wait for one. They have interesting deadlift platforms and I think if you’re interested in crossfit, they have a space for that. I wish there would be two people cleaning though as I feel bad for the lady who was cleaning the whole gym by herself.
If your not looking to get in shape, don't ask for William. If you are not looking for answers why you hurt and how to fix, don't ask for William. If you don't want to be challenged in your fitness goals, don't ask for William. William will not waste your time or money. Highly recommend William. Changed my life.
I have been to a lot of different gyms over the years and this place is great. They have a good mix of equipment, it's organized/laid out well and is in good repair. The staff are friend and professional. I read some of the other reviews and was not surprised. Gyms are notorious for having underhanded billing practices, for example they refuse to acknowledge that you have quit and try to bill an extra month, that sort of stuff. Here was my experience. I live in the US and was in Calgary for 2 months for work. They don't have contracts so i paid for two months in cash. My two months expired 3 days before i left the country, they were totally cool about it and let me work out a couple of times after my term was up. I thought that was quite nice of them. Bottom line. This gym freakin rocks, but deal in cash. I recommend you put in your cancellation notice the day you sign up, you can always push the cancellation date out if you decide you like the place and it resolves any issues of getting billed extra months.
Katerina is the manager at the Macleod Trail. She is personable and willing to listen to any feedback offered. A wide variety of classes are provided. The updated website makes locating classes a breeze. My January 2016 Bone Density scan showed a huge improvement (double what it was year ago). I believe that by being consistant with the Ab, Force, Viper and Yoga classes (my favorite) My Osteopenia can be reversed! I do 180 minutes or more per week. The staff is fantastic! Thank you World's Gym!
My favourite gym! Never overcrowded. Great atmosphere and everyone is very friendly
Talked to Heather at “head office” and she was exceptionally rude, would not let us get a word in edgewise. She kept repeating herself over and over. Very rude and would not allow us to speak. Not sure how heather got her job in customer service as she is the furthest thing from a polite and professional person. They signed my niece for a gym membership without reading through an agreement. My niece is not mentally sound to make her own decision at this time, was not mentally able to understand them or what she was signing. We are furious that World Health would take advantage of a young girl who had no idea what was proposed before her. SHAME ON YOU!
This gym is so old now. Outdated equipment and I heard about judgemental pushy sales staff who only care about the sale. Membership price more expensive than other gyms like Golds and GoodLife. I'll be going to another gym. Edit: Adding that I'm very confused at all these comments below at 5 stars with great reviews. Very confusing.
well equipped gym
This place is great and the people are awesome.
My girlfriend cancelled with the proper 30 days notice but they still insist on charging her even after her last agreed upon, and won't respond to emails. Furthermore the practice where you have to come in to cancel and can't cancel over the phone is shady business practice to begin with.
I am in service industry, so the customer always the most important person! Not in this facility, the reception assistant could not give much information about membership, kept pointing on the sign up iPod. After taking a tour by myself, which is a huge liability issue and a big no-no, I asked few questions about membership options. The manager, who is dealing with price presentations, was right in front of me in his glass office cubicle chatting with couple of trainers, having a good time and completely ignoring me. He shouted something to the front office assistant who again pointed out for me to sign their form. I was debating between World Health and Y and it is easy decision after this visit. Stay away from that place!
They'll continue to take out unauthorized payments. Twice I went in signed the paperwork to close my account after my year was up, they still kept taking payments out. I contacted them both times they tell me I never signed anything so they'll continue to charge me for another year unless I pay the extra 150 or so to cancel my re-subscription. Well, after the second time I see I got to pay my bank to put a stop payment on them. Guess what, they raised the amount to take from me by an extra 10 dollars, so my stop payment no longer valid and after much hassle I ended up having to close my bank account and open a new one. Make sure you get a PROOF signed copy given to you when you want to cancel or they will screw you over. at my bank they say they do this all the time and bad for this.
Good sized gym with everything you'd ever need, friendly staff and trainers. Descent locker room's with showers and steam room. Also has health centre attached though not affiliated with gym that has physio, chiro, massage etc
Never ever thought we would like to "train" in a gym, but World health has completely changed that for us. It offers the same thing as other gyms, but what sets is apart is the staff. They are knowledgeable, extremely friendly, and always helpful and available. Really great atmosphere. Specifically our trainer Brennon. He is great at keeping us accountable, motivated, and creates workouts that are challenging, and work towards our individual goals, while maintaining a fun atmosphere. The energy he brings, helps with that extra drive. Highly recommend.
DO NOT GET A MEMBERSHIP HERE! World Health is the worst gym organization known to man and do yourself a favor and skip out on the headache. The gym has run down equipment and the staff do everything but they're actual job. Getting a membership I felt like I was in a used car dealership!
Excellent experience - very large with plenty of machines, free weights, and cardio. Everything very well maintained, also showers and sauna very clean and neat. Vending machines sell protein shakes and other beverages and snacks. Group classes, massage on site.
Was told to come in by the Manager Tom to fill out cancelation form. Once I got there, Tom left to go golfing. Associate called Tom to ask for the location of the cancelation forms. The receptionist continued from there to hand me a business card and said I can do it all online. I have yet to receive a call back and the company has since continued to charge me again. After I asked Tom months ago to freeze my account, to appease him by not leaving. Poorest managed business I've seen in a while.
I do my training with Brennan. He is knowledgeable, personable, fit and accommodating. He always has our training sessions planned in advance. The staff there is very friendly. I am always greeted by name when I go in.
Great staff,Great machines, shower and lockers rooms always clean. Kid programs while you go work out. Over all very happy with the experience
I have been training with Jadden since last year. He has been really good at guiding me and keeping my workout plan responsive to my needs - which has greatly eliminated pain , reduce weight and increase strength overall . His extensive knowledge of health conditions is very helpful to this end . He works for me to find suitable timings and is overall a very friendly and positive person , which is very important for me . I highly recommend him . The facility is pretty good too. The equipment and mats are in good shape and I do like the steam room .
Good size and lots of machines. Changing rooms are amazing
What a great facility with it's awesome amenities especial the child care. I love the classes they offer especially Zumba!! The friendly staff, the great trainers and an awesome general manager, always looking forward to seeing everyone.
Poorly run and managed place
Extremely dissatisfied. There was an issue with my billing and has been for the past two weeks. I have talked to the manager, person who set up my account, and the 1800 number and they all tell me there is nothing they can do to fix the problem. My payments were being pulled early and more than the amount specified in my contract. Two weeks is too long to wait to be resolved. At first I was going to be "Called" by the person who set up my contract. Three days passed and no call. I tried again. Finally called after the fifth day. Supposedly the issue was resolved. It wasn't. Called the corporate office. The issue wasn't resolved. In fact the lady said that there wasn't "anything she could do, what's done has been done" and that they could not fix the issue and that she wasn't going to try any longer, good bye and hung up. Conversation lasted five minutes. Pretty awful customer service. And since I signed a contract that doesn't even have the "correct" information on it, I still have to abide by it and pay the gym in full! Good luck dealing with horrible customer service and mistakes on contracts you can't fix but still have to pay for!
A WARNING TO ANYBODY LOOKING FOR A 7 DAY FREE TRIAL Let me preface this by saying I'm not new to the gym scene, I’ve been consistently going 5 days a week for 3.5 years now. I've been to 10+ different gyms, some of which I've tried free trials for and had no issues. World Health was different. I signed up for the 7-day free trial with the intention of trying the gym before settling down as I am new to Calgary. Upon arriving in the gym, I was told I had to meet with a consultant to go over some things before starting. The consultation was just over an hour long, and was mostly geared towards selling you on World Health and why you should join. At this point, I was not happy, I walked in with the intention of just going to the gym and doing the usual and instead I got a mandatory sales pitch. At the end of the consultation, the employee began to sign me up for a “14-day trial period”, which was basically a membership I could cancel anytime within the first 14 days, but afterwards would be locked into. I told him I just wanted to do the 7 day free trial and didn’t really want to risk the sign up. He insisted that I would like it and would probably stay, and honestly, I’m guessing its probably a company policy to pressure individuals into signing up, so I don’t blame him. I ended up signing the paperwork because at this point it had been 1.5 hours and I just wanted to get into the gym. Bad mistake. I ended up going to the gym once, then resuming going to GoodLife near my house, as it was just more convenient. After a while, I had forgotten about the “14 day trial period”, which I had to cancel if I didn’t want to become a member. On the 15th day, I went in to cancel. I tried to cancel on the 14th day by texting the member who signed me up, but he told me I had to go into the gym to cancel. Upon requesting to cancel, I was told I had to pay a 100$ cancellation fee, on top of both a 67$ sign up fee and a 30$ biweekly membership fee. I had missed the 14-day cancellation deadline by one day, and this was the repercussion, even though I texted in my cancellation on the 14th day. Upon much struggle in communicating with World Health, I managed to get a refund for the 100$ cancellation fee, but not the sign up and membership fees. Now, let me recap the story. I had went in with the intention of trying a 7 day free trial, gotten pressured into signing up for a preemptive “14 day cancellation” membership, missed the cancellation deadline by one day even though I texted my cancellation on the 14th day, and then forced to pay a sign up fee of 67$ and a membership fee of 33$. Anyways, the point I’m trying to drive home to anybody who has read this far is, don’t think that signing up for the 7-day free trial is going to be anything but difficult. They will attempt to pressure you into signing the 14-day preemptive membership, because they know you will forget about it and end up paying a boatload. Don't make the same mistake. Other than that, the gym was nice.
Unaccommodating and difficult. Regret ever signing up.
Worst gym even been to, their unprofessional employee signed me up for two years contract; a months later, I found out two years contract is not valid when I verified with their management; so I felt to be scammed and wanted to cancel the contract, however, they only agree to re-sign me for a one year contract or pay them $500 for cancelling. I ended up pay for the $500 to cancel the contract rather than keep coming to this place to make me uncomfortable after all. NOT RECOMMENDED!!!!
Charles is an amazing fitness trainer. And quinine and paige are the cutest at the reception desk!
I have trained with William (Will) at WHC for over a year. He has helped me with mobility and my overall strength. I am a former military member and athlete and he was able to match my skill/needs perfectly. He is highly skilled, professional, and most importantly to me friendly. He has made training enjoyable and has always managed to push me. I never wanted to pay for a trainer though it has been worth every cent with Will. Thanks Will
I think this is by the best world health in the city. Has a great layout and tons of machines and free weights. The best part is that there is lots of room to do dead lifts, so the squat racks are usually available.
Place has had a great face lift couldn't beat the price for services
Need later hours on weekends
Fantastic staff that are beyond helpful and supportive! Jesse has helped me immensely with starting up, proper work out routines and feeling right at home! I would highly suggest this gym to anyone at any level of fitness!
Really good selection of machines and weights, steam room, pretty empty (so lots of space), friendly staff, good prices - excellent find!!
I love this gym! I have been coming for two years on my lunch hour and have had the best experiences with my noon hour gym sessions! A few girls and I get together weekly with the trainer Joey and he makes us WORK and when we are done we feel fantastic and strong. Very positive and high energy trainer to work with. This gym offers lunch hour classes (TKO, Spin) which fits perfectly with your busy work and family life. You are greeted by your first name and there is always someone there saying "goodbye, have a good day" when you leave. Great atmosphere and great place to work out.
Great hours and staff throughout the week
WORST experience ever I WILL NEVER go to or join a world health gym ever..
The staff has always been friendly and informed. I'm looking forward to getting back into working out at this gym again
My gym for over 5 yrs now. We love this place.. Best gym, best place ..best overall experience. I like that is it spacious, clean, modern, and has good equipment and most off all friendly staff. zumba, force ,abs are absolutely my favorite classes specially taking with the best the most inspiring amazing pro instructors/leaders. I love you WHC Macleod!
I had the pleasure of dealing with Jordan at Macleod trail. Both me and my girlfriend were new to calgary and well versed with public gyms. I had been a member of a public gym in BC for about 8 years and was absolutely blown away by the service at world health. There are multiple facilities to choose from around town and the staff are very friendly and inviting every time you walk in the door. To anyone new to the city, or working out, I would highly highly recommend jordan and the team at Macleod trail world health!
Lots: lots of room, lots of equipment ( that actually works), lots of light, lots of trainers, lots of hours, lots of parking. Staff is Open to suggestions and feedback. Very consistent and clean steam room.
I’m getting non-stop phone calls from the place and no voicemail. I called them and told them to take me off of whatever calling list I’m on as I’ve never even set foot in a World Health Club. As a result, I was solicited the following day.
