Granite Springs is a course where you will lose a lot of golf balls (bring one for every hole, if you don't like searching hard and using whatever balls you find). Generally just a few yards from good position are woods with ground cover that make finding a ball a chore. There is little rough to stop a ball from running into the woods/ponds/rocks. The first hole has a pond 10 feet from the right side of the green, for instance, and no room to miss on the left. The greens are firm, but not unfairly hard, and generally are quick. They are also a good mix of sizes, generally tailored to the hole (par 5's have smaller greens).
The course has very few straight holes, with an overall tendency to dogleg left. Note that for a long hitter, a well struck tee shot that does not go on a precise line will usually end up in the woods, as the doglegs do not typically feature wide fairways. The course opens up as it goes, which can make the start of a round frustrating for someone like me who tends to start slowly. The only acceptable miss on this course is short. If you routinely miss drives/approaches left or right by more than 20 yards (that's most of us), you are going in the woods/scrub a lot.
There are many shots where the landing area is not in view from the tee, making it even more likely that a ball will be lost. This is definitely not a place to play if you have a high handicap, as there are also many places with ponds and wilderness areas directly in front of the tees. This aside from the constant lost balls. The front of most greens are open to run-up shots, which is a positive.
I typically shoot in the mid-80s to the mid-90s - I expect to take 5-10 penalty strokes on this course, and that's using a generous "lost ball, no hazard stakes, just drop nearby and take a stroke" policy that isn't technically correct by the rules. The course is not overly long from the white tees, and if I was to attempt to shoot the best score possible, I would likely never use my driver.
The course is in good condition in general.
