REVIEWS OF Wingfield Golf Club IN Calgary

Kevin Keegan

Have played this course now 6 times this year. The course has been getting better each and every round. If you are going here expecting a pga quality course for 34.99 your out to lunch anyways. Thank you for the reasonable pricey and very available tee times. Will be back tonight and lots more after that. Also the rough eats balls so make sure you hit the fairway

Tariq Malik

Ok golf course with decent slops, and in the city, but No scenery , more of an open field and bare.

Ryan Opperman

Challenging course to play, but fun.

SuperOcto

very interesting golf course, very expensive food.

J Luke

DJ B

If it seems inexpensive just wait until you play it and find out....it's still overpriced!! Absolutely the worst mess of goat pasture(I won't compliment it by calling it a golf course)I've ever had the displeasure of visiting. Crying shame because the design under the years of neglect is very nice but save yourself the frustration and play golf on a soccer field somewhere....at least you'll see grass!

Kinam Nam

Moss Hopper

Layout is fantastic with great bunkering and five tees. The courses however are in TERRIBLE shape. The greens were not playable. Please continue to work to return this course to what it could be... the best links style course in Calgary area. For the price it is better than shooting at nothing on the range.

Ryan Green

DO NOT GOLF HERE! This golf course is in absolutely terrible condition. Tee boxes have almost no grass and the fairways are almost more dandelions than green grass. Numerous areas on the fairways where there is no grass at all. The sand traps might as well be made of concrete because thats how hard the sand is. To top it all off we played 18 holes and never saw a drink cart lady (in 30+ weather). Save your money and golf elsewhere.

Been going here for the last couple months, as I just started golf, the range is a better price than any of city courses. The Greens are pretty rough on all 3 courses but they are getting better. The sand is nice and soft the fairways are in great shape, I will definitely buy a membership if they offered it.

Avoid this golf course at all costs. From customer service to quality of golf course to the terrible food, there is nothing appealing about the Silverwing experience. We booked a small tournament at the course on a day that did not have much else going on. They were disorganized at the pro shop, with all 24 golfers in our tournament waiting for the marshal at the first tee box on time. We waited for the marshal and course manager to get themselves organized, and when they finally sent the groups out we were were told to hurry up since we were running behind. I will mention at this point that the golf course is located a stone's throw from the Calgary International Airport, with 737's constantly taking off and landing overhead throughout the entire round. Weather conditions were poor to begin with but quickly turned for worse and we had to come into the clubhouse after about 6 holes. That's a risk any person takes with a round of golf but the better managed courses offer rain checks or other forms of compensation, especially for tournaments. The course manager was not accommodating and offered nothing by way of rain checks or other compensation, basically telling us that we had the choice to play in the near freezing rain or go home, and by the way thanks for your money. There were two other tournaments that day and at least one other group attempted to do the same thing and were met with the same treatment. We waited around for the meal that was scheduled for our group which they refused to cancel. It was steak and salad, potatoes, beans (from a can) and bread. The steaks came off the grill raw. They charged about $50 for this meal and it was a shocking disappointment and the icing on a miserable day to say the least. I would have been happier paying $6 for lunch at McDonald's. Again the course was completely unaccommodating even while we sat around for 1 1/2 hours for our meal (since we couldn't play golf), not even offering some snacks for the group, free pop or anything. The manager and owners obviously don't know how to run a proper golf course and couldn't handle a simple 24 person tournament. Don't waste your time or money on this golf course, there are plenty of options in and around Calgary that are far more deserving of your money that will treat you right.

Charlie Hogarth

Course needs a bit of work in certain areas, but it was early in the season when I did my round (May). One of the members on our round was a beauty! Would go back.

David Pachal

Really good for what this course has to offer. Greens are grown in well and fairways are fair. No complaints and staff were very helpful. If you want golf you’ve found it. Thanks.

Sean Walters

Staff is nice, and on this course your never really rushed. It is a links course so you may loose some balls in the long grass

Parminder Sandhu

Great experience!

LiFi

Played a round there yesterday and the 4 of us got the royal treatment from Bob in the pro shop. Great guy and a great (though chilly) round.

kacey alladin

We golf here at least once a week, sometimes more This Course is 8 out of 10.... love playing here! But...... Staff-2 out of 10.... No one seems to really understand the 5 pillars of customer service Customers pay your wages-listen to them Food -1 out of 10.... but they close early because the a.k.a ( chef ) feels like closing the kitchen So much potential Here's hoping you step up your game!

Jesse Vejprava

To all my golfers. Do not play Wingfield (Silverwing). It was the worst experience I've ever had on a course. They do not have greens and cut a small circular patch on the fairway with a hole.. and there's only 2 foursomes of us with the marshal urging us on when there is no one on the course? Im at a loss of words. No wonder they went bankerupt lol no beer carts no nothing. It's like the hand me down course you don't want to use and it speaks for itself.

IRL

I have had pleasant experiences at Silverwing, was looking forward to the 2020 season however I see they are still closed despite other courses opening. A quick google search shows that Silverwing and Bouldercreek are in receivership, that's not good. Hopefully new owners can be found and the course opened in 2020.

Phil Nordin

Silverwing did a great job of hosting our annual CONNECT Leaders Golf Tournament. They were organized, thorough, and professional. We were very pleased with the manner in which Silverwing hosted a small tournament. Thanks for the excellent service.!

Reid Bothwell

Tried to charge me $39.50 for 9 holes at 6pm on a cold Sunday night. Who do they think they are...the course is nowhere near worthy of that price. Zero trees, poor conditions, unkept landscape. Save your money, play a city course or fox hollow....way better condition and way better value.

Balbir Badhesha

Matthew Stake

Ok. So these guys are working hard to bring this course back to life. Hope they dont mess it up but so far so good. Looking forward to seeing at full potential

Bradley van Middelkoop

Good deal on golf: $50 all in with cart and we golfed on October 15! As far as a golf course with no trees goes, this was an interesting course!

Brock Ambrose

Ben Ezenta

We had a pleasant experience at Silverwing for our charity golf tournament. Everything was arranged and ready for us before our arrival. Some other other things we requested for were prompted attended to without any iota of push back or argument. This is our 7th year hosting our golf tournament at Silverwing. Everything participant was very happy with the event, setup, location and arrangement.

Ryan O

They have the radio blaring music at the driving range, I have never heard someone yell, "Let there be noise" before anyone hits a ball. It's too bad because it used to be a decent range..

Ken Smith

This place has gone down hill. They charge extra for range balls when one pays for a round. Then charge $7.50 for a sandwich with one little thin slice of processed Turkey. As for the course it's not in very shape at all, the round also took almost 6 hours to play, and the beer cart didn't even come by our group once in that time.

Shamas Arshad

Lush green Grassland.

Trevor Jarvis

Always pleasant staff!!

GoingLeftyGolf

Tim Conrad

Great food nice course bring your A game

Ryan Allan

$35 for 18 holes. Can't argue with that. The course was closed in 2020 and is in rough shape for 2021 as a result. New owners this year. The course is at the south end of the new runway, and you'll see many planes throughout the day. For the price I'd go back. Maybe in a couple months though once it improves a bit more.

William Lammie

Course is getting better with new team looking after it..Great pro-shop staff and manager leading the charge is super friendly and open.. So cool to have great eats and wicked staff after and before heading out.. Great job getting back up in the air...

Chris McElwee

This course is phenomenal value for money. It offers many aspects of a semi-private or at least more expensive course at a significantly reduced cost. - The three 9 hole courses give a great variety, meaning that you can play there frequently without getting bored. - It's significantly easier to book a tee time here as opposed to the City of Calgary courses, which are around the same price. - When the weather is fair, they allow you to hit from the grass rather than the mats. - The staff are friendly and helpful I look forward to playing there again this spring.

Lincoln Hui

Decent value at $29 for twilight but conditions were far from good: bumpy greens, patchy fairways, lots of areas under repair, and clouds of mosquitoes.

Badreddine Hammoud

Tyrell Scott

Half decent golf course that is maintained poorly.

Debbie Richards

The condition of this course is embarrassing. The newest reviews are spot on.

Shawn Thompson

It's basically Speargrass but within Calgary. Super wide open, which lots of average golfers need. That being said, its proximity to the airport can make for loud distraction.

Dennis K

The price is not bad, but the course condition is not good. The fairways are very patchy and the bunker sand are very hard. We golfed there quit a bit few years ago, the current condition is lot worst than when they first opened. Pretty flat course with 27 holes (Firefly, Mayfly, and Dragon fly).

Ammul Shergill

good course

Guy Ouellette

After sitting unkempt for a year after Silverwing closed it's doors, it is evident that Wingfield was not ready to open. That said. For 35 dollars for 18 holes, you can't use up 4.5 hours of your day much cheaper. Bonus of hitting the golf ball around. The course is in rough shape, the greens are brown and cracked. It seems like they have no means of watering the course, at least, that is my opinion. It will get better as the season goes along, if they could just manage to water the greens somehow, it would go a long way. I see they at least have fresh sand to load the sand traps, Silverwing never did that much. The Pro Shop is barren, barely a few items on the wall, seems like they opened with little budget or credit to stock the storefront. At least they had beer cart and half way house operational.

Derek Brown

Warren Cordeiro

Played this course on Wednesday. Course is in embarrassing shape....the fairways are dirt and dandelions. Greens are patchy and the t boxes have no grass. They should be ashamed of themselves

Alan Oberhammer

Over priced for what you get. The course has never been it great condition.

Anwar Subhani

Awesome

Jim Faust

My new favorite course for 2021!

Mehedi Hasan

Nice field

Koen Johnson

Mike Chartrand

As owner of A Laptop Shoppe I enjoy this golf course. The staff are wonderful, the course is interesting, the food is great .

Jared Baker

This place IS getting better. Wish there were more trees. This course has tons of potential and im really looking forward to next season. Thank you new owners for having some pride. The employees are all super friendly as well. No complaints.

Bill Allen

It's the last week of the year and the docket is wide open. I asked if there were any specials and mentioned other courses are giving discounts as it was the last week they were open. This kind gentlemen told me to go play those courses. Wow, talk about customer retention. I'm glad this guy doesn't work for me. I've played at Springbank Links and Boulder Creek and was delighted at the customer service and consideration at both those courses. Silverwing staff could learn a few things from them

HIROSHI NAKAMURA

(Translated) Is that okay? If this level at this price in the city. something like that. I want you to take care of the fairway a little more. Some have been stripped for years and some creeks have actually withered. It has been a shame that it has become a good course to hit anywhere, as it has been cutting down trees in recent years. Does it feel like a beginner-friendly course?

Ryan Jenkinson

Know when your booking a tee this course has been closed for over year, staff were at great lowing expectations. That being said the course needs some TLC especially the greens ASAP and I hope they are able to get back in shape.

James Ridley

Unfortunately the course is in the worst shape I've ever seen a golf course. Bunkers have grass growing through the sand, the greens are completely dried out, and there are gopher holes on the greens.

Jeffrey Papworth

Great it's back

Adnan Yunus

Beautiful course

Chris Parsons

Used to be Silvering golf club. Some temp greens in play as the course fell into disrepair. Good pricing and fun to play.

Ferry Ginting

Ted Baynes

The prices were good had a good time We will be back

Steven Brown

I like Silverwing Links. It is a wide-open 27 hole layout, perfect for high handicappers (90% of all golfers never break 100, legally), and NO leaves in the fall. Their pro shop staff is friendly. Their restaurant staff are awesome ! Both staff make it a pleasure to play there. The only problem, I had, this season, was being charged full weekend green fees, the last weekend in the fall. Because most other Calgary-area courses had closed, it appeared to many guests, at that time, that the Course was gouging us with the full weekend rates. Not classy. Other than that beef, I will look forward to playing there, many times, in 2016.

Cory Nickerson

Cheap golf

Paul E

Not bad, not great. Standard pub food.

Daniel Fleischer

Very strange golf course. New to the area. Went to use the driving range today, got to the mats to find head banging rock music blaring. Not exactly conducive to working on ones game. Went to the pro shop, and the nice young woman working there came down and couldn’t believe how loud it was or even that it was playing and said she would call her manager. He eventually came down, lowered the volume a bit and visited with another guy at the range. There were only 3 of us there. He never once said anything thing to us, knowing we had requested the music be turned down which was rude. But wait....then his partner left and proceeded to turn on the sprinklers behind us on the dead putting green and soak me and my golf bag...unreal...passive aggressive much? Glad we didn’t bother to golf there. Apparently under new management, and we were advised that all the greens are dead....won’t be back..never been to a golf course anywhere like this..complain about loud music..soak em and they will leave..bingo

Terry Poscente

Cheap to play but AWFUL conditions!!!

As you can see from the old pictures, the amount the golf course has improved over a few short months is nothing less than amazing! The greens went from being non existent to what greens should look like. The fairways and the rest of the golf course have seen major improvements.

Chris Thierman

Simple no trees

Zach Moyer

A fantastic set of holes within view of the Airport and the Rocky Mountains. No large pines but the surrounding grasslands gives a feeling of being in nature. I highly recommend the twilight/sundowner option. Staff are extremely friendly. The Firefly/Mayfly/Dragonfly 9-hole sets are a super fun set of challenges with a gradual yet noticeable upwards slope in skill level. Be sure to bring plenty of balls - you will lose a few on the many tricky ridgelines and water traps! I had an absolutely fantastic first 18 hole round here and plan to return many times. A true jewel hidden in the Northeast!

The wedding venue at the Silverwing Golf Course is an excellent venue for a small to medium sized event. My niece had her engagement party there for 100 people and the event from start to finish was a success. We had rented the venue for one day only, but we had full access to it the day before, to set up, and the day after, for cleaning, at no extra charge. If you want to keep your costs down, while still enjoying great food and friendly staff, then this place is for you. Our contact, Misha Davidson, the Director of Food and Beverage, was absolutely amazing and very accommodating. He worked within our budget to provide the best service at the price we wanted and was always friendly and helpful. We got to sample the menue for free and the food tasted even better at the event. Some of our guests only eat Halal and they were able to provide only Halal meats. I would definitely go back again for another event and would recommend this to anyone looking for a wedding/party venue

reem a

My husband and his buddies go here at least twice per month, the staff can be a tad snobby at times but we overlook it because the courses are some of the best around. Food is expensive and only meh.

Jim MaChugh

Awful course...they have obviouslly opened it WAY TOO early without allowing it to mature. When I informed the pro shop staff of my displeasure with the state of the greens (upon being asked what I thought), they laughed at me and dismissed my opinion as me being "stupid". Considering I'm a 2 handicap and a member at an excellent course in Calgary, you would think I would know what good greens and what a good golf course is like. There are plenty of other great courses (for a far better deal) in the Calgary area...DO NOT SPEND YOUR MONEY HERE!!!

Nathan Bernhardt

The cart paths are in excellent condition ????

Allan Trebilco

Course is in absolute TERRIBLE shape. Fairway grass length is more like the rough (if there is grass at all), greens have divots all over. I won’t be back.

Robert Quigley

Grass in very poor condition, standing water in sand traps

Mercedes D

It is well maintained, the workers work almost every single day.(so the reviews saying it isn't are ridiculous, it just needs alot of work that can't be done by only like 12 people.) Severly understaffed and laughing stock course of the whole city. The machines need fixing most the time. The new owners love yelling at their maintenance crew for not doing good enough work even though they work insanely hard while being very underpaid. (As an old employee) The price is great for what you get, which is not a great quality course(for now, has a lot of work left to be done on it)

Grant Roberts

This course is garbage. The fairways are bare and patchy at best, bunkers are rock hard, dandelion heads all over the fairways. Nothing but a cattle pasture with some greens plunked on it. Defiantly won't go back, wasn't worth the 80$ green fee w/cart and taxes. Waste of money, save your money and go somewhere else. This course is garbage. Anyone who thinks this course is 2/10 at best. Has probably never played on a real golf course before.

Alun Jackson

Sorry this one is not a golf course review but a review of the catering staff and separate building they have beside their beautiful club house. I had the funeral service for my father there. This separate building has a lot of class and has a real aeronautical theme. Susan handles the catering for the Golf course and my father’s service and both the building and food was excellent. Very generous portions and exactly as I had hoped. It just had to be perfect for the service and it was. Thank-you!!

Scott Thompson

I've probably golfed at this course about 10 times. The course is about average, but this year there is a lot of snow rot on the fairways. This isn't the reason why I'm writing this review though. I have found the staff this year are a little on the snobby side. The clerk in the pro shop acts as if he's doing you a favor when you're making purchases. And the tee off marshals try to hurry you when the problem is over booking. There's enough frustration in the game of golf alone. I don't want any more from just getting on the course. And if its worth anything, I've never written a review about anything, ever. I just thought it would be beneficial for the staff and/or potential customers to be aware of this.

Michael

The staff here were very knowledgeable about what they are talking about but are very unhelpful. The overall quality of this golf course is on the good side of things but there are some issues with the one of the holes. My overall experience with this golf course is probably 3/5 stars I would probably recommend this to my friends as it is very close to where I live

Ron C

We find Silverwing Links an excellent golf course to hold our annual tournament! We find the staff friendly and very organized, the food very good , the facility excellent and the cost reasonable. We would recommend Silverwing links to anyone! MANtheGAP

Mike Loewen

This golf course has done a complete 180 from the previous review. The grounds and playability of the golf course have seen tremendous improvements as will any course that is still maturing. The pro shop staff is accomadating to everybody rain or shine shine and will do their best to make evryones golfing experience enjoyable. we have had a wonderful experience golfing there and will continue to do so!

Michael Yuan

As you can tell from all the recent photos posted by other reviewers, the course is in pretty bad shape, especially the greens. However, for 35 bucks for 18 hole golf is a really good deal especially for beginner golfers looking to find and hone their game. If you're a seasoned golfer, don't even bother taking a look. Really hoping the course gets back to what it was before the bankruptcy, and hopefully they find ways to improve upon the golf course.

jannet younger

Andy O'Brien

Guillaume Chan

You know.. after being closed for over a year, it could be worse. Staff was super friendly and gave us the heads up that the course needed TLC. Course layout was still fun, but could use some rain. I'm sure it'll get back to good shape

Cody Fulford

Gavin Bates

Never again. Over 3 hour back nine. Marshals let singles and twosomes clog the course. Lots of bare patches, bunkers not maintained. Ground under repair nearly every third hole. Should be a 50 dollar course, definitely not over 100.

Adam Gorveatt

Great course, greens are almost perfect. Still temp greens on some holes. 2022 season should be perfect!

Niamh Muller

Staff are super helpful and accommodating, really friendly. We have held a couple of Tradeshows here and they were seamless thanks to Misha and the team.

Danielle Lens

Kyron Purdy

Great staff and course is improving every week.

Ed McGillivray

We recently had our charity golf tournament at Silverwing GC and the experience was superb. Misha and his staff went out of their way to ensure a most pleasant event - and Misha's flexibility and assistance made the tournament seamless and successful. Highly recommended.

Geff Panattoni

The greens this year are poorly maintained. I get new ownership, but still below standard. It is a nice course, but definitely not worth $25 for nine holes. $10-15 at most

Gordon Dean

Its a like for me.I find that when im on the green I feel that I'm the only one repairing ball marks. The golf course is there for amusement not for the abuse that it is getting .Let's all be more responsible.

toni lambert

I enjoyed my recent round at Silverwing. After being closed and not maintained for 2 years, I was surprised how much the staff have brought the courses back, the greens although playable still require some. The reduced green fees sure helps.

Blaine Austin

I played the course twice last year, once in the beginning of the season and once at the end. Had I not given the course a second chance my review would likely have been with less stars. Whatever issues the course was facing early in the season were remedied. I hope they're able to sustain into the 2020 season as their Frequent Player Club is a very attractive membership for a golfer like me, especially with the ability to play Boulder Creek if you want out of the city.

Ricky Tang

Poor poor green and fairways, will not play again.

Todd Day

Cory Hanna

Course is in very rough shape; I doubt they will return it to even basic condition during the 2019 season. They are offering a discounted rate plus an additional offer for your next visit, which makes it a decent value regardless. Staff were courteous and sympathetic to condition, but it isn't anything within their control. I doubt we will see this course last past next season, it's too close to the airport and it's reputation has been damaged by its current condition. Still a fun day for $43, but without the free cart offer, I'd pass.

Patrick

I've been playing this course for the past 5 years and each year the condition of the course has been deteriorating. Three of my buddies and I tee'd it up here yesterday (June 4, 2019 - Firefly/Dragonfly) and that's the last time I will be playing this course! I understand that there is a water line issue where majority of the course is dry - greens were patchy, fairways were like rocks (was better to be in the rough and bunker) and we had to hammer in the tees on the tee boxes. I just can't justify paying their asking green rate for such poor conditions when you can go down the road to Fox Hollow for a lower rate and in much better condition than this with no discount incentive or a gesture of goodwill. I played The Links of Gleneagles last week and they had one of their greens on temporary greens and gave us a credit towards our next round - something this course should consider!

Railway Man

The course was closed for a year or so, now the fairway are in dismal shape which i can handle considering the price, the thing I cant get over at any price is the greens, all the grass is basicly dead making them impossible to put, the bit of greenery just bounce your ball around wrost than temporaries.

captaingreenlantern1

No cart driver service, no water stations on the course, terrible placement of steaks for water hazzards. Good thing I was out with my best friends.

Aaron Andweson

Called to get the details about the memberships but got no call back. Really!! Looked into the staffing that was there last year, have a friend who worked on the greens team and heard they let them all go and are replacing all of the staff inside and outside except for the Marshalls and backshop folks who are most likely volunteers. The staff got the course back to shape outside and the staff inside we rocking the service and the staff on the patio and beer cart were what kept me and my friends coming back. Who runs a course like this? I will be looking for a course that's better to their people.

Max Imov

We went golfing here yesterdat (25-Jul-2021) and I'm sorry to say but I don't thin that I will be back until they put things back the way Silverwing was. The whole course needs watering. They currently have dried grasses averywhere, half are on temporary greens and very dry and bumpy permanent greens. I even saw dandelions on some of the permanent greens. I only saw one groundskeeper through the whole 18 hole round.

Awesome place, good management and nice atmosphere. Really enjoyed our evening event at silver wing golf course.

Randy Hick

Has to be the worst course in city. Terribly groomed. Sand traps aren't even serviced. Played there today (Aug 10, 2017) and can't believe how poor it was.

george colpitts

Tyler Murray

Far and away the worst course I’ve ever played. The fairways are completely dead, it would be softer hitting off the cart path. Course is terribly neglected, I doubt there is a greens keeper and if there is he needs to hang his head in shame. Wouldn’t even come back here if it was free
