The Owner, Steve Sawyer outdid himself when he added the 2nd 9 holes a few years back, turning this into a very picturesque & challenging 18 hole course while he was at it! I use to play "the old course" for years as I've been a resident of Northumberland County most all of my life.
With the help from one of our local artists, George Pichl, they certainly put the course on the map & you can bet she holds her own to many of Ontario's better known courses too. This is a gem you should not deny yourself. Everybody here is always very friendly & helpful. All the local golfers usually play with a high standard of etiquette & sportsmanship, and so, an enjoyable round shouldn't take you any longer then about 3.5hrs. But if you golf like me, pack lots of water, don't forget your ball retriever telescope thingy, maybe a lunch, & always a snack or two & let them play through! lol
The course has several steep changes in the elevation, so I would recommend renting a golf cart. Playing smart with good course management is a must here. Use the tips on your scorecard, and you'll have an enjoyable round on one of the most visually appealing courses in the area. There's lots of deer & other wildlife here too. Drop in to play a quick round at twilight & you'll know what I mean. In early Fall the colors & the surroundings are really awesome!
They have a 5 day, "Stay & Play" package that's a heck of a great deal! The entire facility is one of the cleanest, privately owned parks my family has enjoyed.
During the summer, there is always something going on and things to keep the kids happy and occupied as well. Many of the campers have been coming here for years, & from as far away as the east coast & some from the US as well.
If you're an avid fisherman, bring your fly-fishing rod and tackle because Shelter Valley Creek runs right along side the campgrounds and has tons of rainbow trout all up & down the creek, especially during the spring run. There is also miles of other smaller creeks nearby if you enjoy fishing for browns & speckle trout too!
If I had any "cons" about the place? It would only be because we haven't figured a way to convinced Steve to begin offering us all yearly seasonal memberships.....yet!! >wink wink<
Come check the Club out! Maybe you can help us talk Steve into having seasonal memberships! lol
**btw, the 6th & 15th holes are marked wrong on the site's photo gallery. The yardage is right, but both are obviously Par 4's, not Par 3's....so, STEVE!!...get fix'n that soon eh! You're slip'n!! LOL!!
Hope to see you all there soon!
