This Golf is classified in the category of Golf course.
Nice straight forward course. Waiting to any all 18 holes once construction is done.
Its a great golf course, but it is surrounded by busy roads. Being in Belleville, its an amazing site in spring because the town of Belleville was gifted plenty of cherry blossom trees. In the spring they bloom and its incredible to play golf here.
Good
4 he round on a weekend. Cant complain. Course was in pretty good condition
Good county course. Conditions could be a bit better, but overall it's decent. Nice people always playing here too.
It's a nice county course. The course is not very challenging and is pretty wide open. The bunkers are not always in great condition. Overall it's a fun course. If you have the choice to play Francis Byrne (another Essex County course), I'd pay Byrne instead.
Another awesome county place
Got my boyfriend a gift certificate for lessons with the pro here. He loved it!
Shocking!!!!!!!!!! Staff unhelpful, everything was too much trouble. No food, no water even though water in vending machines but you can't buy any as they are locked. Can't have your clubs or buggy till just before you go out to play. Went out to have a pracice putt and was told that the practice green was closed. This was the straw that broke the camels back so we told them to shove it and left.
UPDATE: 7-20-2018: Played again today. Staff is still great. the course is still well maintained. Its a very nice course. just gets crowded at the first hole and everyone wants to get going. the ranger was great with us, helps us move along. the back 9 move fast. no delays and all smooth. the front 9 can be a little crowded. Original: The place is well maintained. The staff are nice. But the players are real jerks. Some even hit the balls to force you to move along. 2 weeks in a row, had players complain that we are moving too slow. They sent the rangers after us only for the rangers to notice its the 8 players ahead of us that are taking their time. Never have we seen players this rude and nasty to other players. Some of the people think they are above anyone else. They act as if they own the course or pay a very high membership fees.
Relatively easy course. Good condition. No practice area. Putting green only. Greens will slow today. Very good condition though and consistent. I went here as a warm up after 3 month layoff. Good municipal course.
Well maintained muni golf course. Great for beginners and low handicappers. Flat, not much trouble. No practice range.
Great one
I didn't hate the golf course. I only stopped there to park my car for a few minutes.
Good place
Good for business
Granted, we played today, the first nice day in 2019. The course was in pretty bad shape and we had an hour and a half frost delay. The guys working in the office were not very good at their job and the starter was not keeping an even flow of golfers going off the first tee. The course is NOT worth the $47 we paid.
Woke up this morning early to play 9 holes before i go to work. I work 55 hours a week so i try to squeeze in golf whenever I can. Being that Hendricks is the only PUBLIC RIP OFF in my area, I walk in to try an pay for 9 holes, it's about 7:20 am. First, the " ever so happy to see you" cashier is telling me I have to wait for a 3some in 25 min to join them, ok not a big deal. Then she tells me that 9 o'clock rates DON'T START UNTIL 11. WHY THE HELL DOES IT MATTER WHEN I PLAY ONLY 9 HOLES?!?!! SHE TELLS ME I HAVE TO PAY FOR 18!! REALLY? MAYBE NOT ALL PEOPLE, UNDER THE AGE OF 100, DON'T HAVE THE LUXURY OF WAITING UNTILL 11 TO PLAY GOLF. LET ALONE THE PRICE $$$ OF THIS POORLY MAINTAINED GOAT PATH!! This place has always given me a some sort of attitude or issue every time I go. They once charged me 25 bucks so my wife and I could ride together and MY WIFE WASN'T PLAYING. THEY THINK BECAUSE THEY'RE THE ONLY GIG IN TOWN, THAT THEY CAN TREAT PEOPLE LIKE THIS.
Excellent footgolf course! The carts are in great shape, staff running the footgolf portion are a great friendly bunch. This sport just opened up on May 31 and is only available on Tuesday and Friday evenings after 4 pm for now. However, if the number of participants increase, Hendrick's will open other days.
Renovations have gone well. The course looks much better. Went in early fall and A LOT of leaves still on the course. You can tell they cleaned up a bunch (judging by the piles). The course may need to be hit multiple times a day, but if you keep it dead center (as we all wish) the course is very neat and plays great! Will be back soon!
Pro: easy access, close to everything, prices are very reasonable, well maintained field and installation, friendly staff. Con: non found.
Fairly flat course. Nice round. Rangers helped keep the pace moving.
Sneakily difficult course! Was in good shape when I played it at the end of October.
Great short course
Staff has always been courteous, but rate of play, since the upgrading is terrible. Rough is too high causing wasted time searching for marginal shots. Understanding that the front is new, it should have not reopened until next spring. This 9 is not ready for the volume of play it receives. Back 9 is terrific and a joy to play. Wish I could say the same for the front. But in over 40 years of playing Hendricks, it is worlds better than it was. Just cut the grass and restrict play on the front. Next year Hendricks will be a premium course.
Great local golf course.
Great place to play! Pace was surprisingly very good! Course has come a long way over the last few years! Even the deer are friendly!
Love the staff!!! Tim is the man in charge of the smooth running operation.. I take my hat off!
Course is in fantastic shape, and great customer service.
Personally i don't golf: But for my friends that do""" they say it's a beautiful course.
Essex County maintains some of the hidden gems of golf courses. Although Hendricks Field, Francis Byrne and Weequaic Park are municipal courses...they all offer different challenges.
Nice
This place is the best I have played for a County Golf course. Its taken care of like a private club!!!!
The course is in great shape
I came here for the first time and everything was great until I lost a head cover and a shirt and didn't realize until the 8th hole. I told the staff that I lost it and they went out of there way to search the place and find both of my items. Allen, Joe and Rich thank you guys so much for doing that for me especially Allen you are the man thanks so much!!!
well maintained course
Course is in very good shape
great course nearby! Wide open, definitely walkable
Great walkable course. A little tight in some holes so you'll see some balls flying over to your fairway but it's a forgiving course
This is one of Essex county courses where I have been learning to golf as I am in county. Really nice staff and the course is easy to walk and great for beginners. I really like playing here and recommend it highly. They also have a decent food and drink shack at the then with super nice staff as well.
Very neat courses, would come back.
Awesome golf course, my first time playing
Living in the area, I have played this course a lot and have seen it improve year after year. Drainage use to be a big problem on the back nine, but that has been fixed with the install of a much needed drainage system. If you like walking instead of riding, you'll like how easy this course is to walk. Pace of play on weekdays is fast but can get very slow on the weekend. (Like just about every muni out there). For the 2020 season the greens have been rolling great and the tee boxes have been in good shape too. I gained a new found appreciation for Hendricks during the quarantine. Playing here was one of the only chances that I had to be out in public for an extended period of time, enjoying the outdoors. For me the toughest holes are #5, #7 and #18. When I play early on weekdays, it takes me 3 hours and 45 minutes to walk a round of golf.
I've gone here twice and it was two weeks in a row. I like this place better than Bryne (where theres one fellow that is a total dbag and hates his life). If you're a resident of Essex county and would like to hone your craft at a less than challenging golf course while being treated with some respect this is the course for you.
Great for starter training
Didn't inform us that they were only doing half rounds when we scheduled our tee time and gave us an attitude when we asked if we could play through twice. Then the course manager was rushing us even though there was no one behind us. We finished the 9 holes in under 2 hours just for context. I think they think they're more exclusive then they actually are. So much for a relaxing round of golf lol
Short course but good nonetheless. Makes you feel like you’re a better golfer than you are.
Good golf and friendly staff!
Pace of play is extremely slow and course is in horrible shape weeds crabgrass everywhere Fairways are a mess greens are way too long like carpet stay away from this golf course pure garbage
It was in good shape and the staff was great I was pleasantly surprised by the conditions
I'm almost willing to call it a hidden gem. Downside would be that they do not have a driving range. Course was in great condition. Be prepared for a very short back 9
nice flat course.. easy to walk
Excellent service, course is perfect
This is been my home course for years. They do a pretty good job of maintaining the course and if anything it's gotten better over the last few years. It's still subject to flooding but that's because it's a recovered swampland
Great public course. Fairways are wide making it a fun course to play. Easy course to walk as well. Maybe more importantly, staff are friendly and accommodating. Also, kind of cool to see this guy on the border of Newark. Lol
Great shape
Great local course to play golf. So many improvements made over the years. Course is in great condition. Fun time with a group!
A solid public course at a fair price, especially if you are an Essex County resident. Reasonably well maintained, with few water hazards (besides a couple creeks), but quite a few bunkers. The staff is friendly, and it's normally easy to get a tee time. Would definitely recommend.
Front 9 is now going 2 be back 9 , and that's all that's open till completion! It is unbelievable awesome!!! I give it 5 Ohh Rhaa's!!!! Outstanding!!!
Nice place
Still under reconstruction. Only 9 holes open but nice layout and good condition.
Enjoyed the course. Open, forgiving. Pace was slow that day but due to inexperienced players ahead. Happens though.
Pretty straightforward course, a few odd holes, but well maintained... good value.
Staff helps you tee off quickly and sometimes on the back nine if it is open. The course usually plays within three and a half hours. Tees and greens are always in great condition. The turkey hangs out around the 11th hole so watch your food.
Course layout isn't very challenging for better players, but enjoyable for everyone and the conditions (fairways, rough, greens) are excellent! They're putting lots of efforts to make this an attractive option to play. Looking forward to the other (front?) 9 holes completion soon!
The course is in pretty good condition this year. Some repair work being done on hole #1. The best part is the grill at the 10th hole. The woman runs a food truck at the jersey shore and has great food. Try the jerk chicken and smoothies.
Good golf course 17th hole is awesome my favorite hole on the course
What a waste of a perfectly good outdoor rifle range!
Newly improved. I would rate Hendricks amoung the best public courses I have played.
Great experience
The people here are rude and for the price you pay the noise from Belleville Ave and Franklin don't make it worth it. The Marshall in his cart was up our ass about moving slow and was really rude about it. He then proceeded to follow us and was a pest the whole time. We played on Veterans Day when we were all off of work and not looking to be rushed through our shot. I much rather play at Weequahic Golf Course. The grounds are much nicer. The staff is cool as hell and people aren't up your ass when you are playing.
First off , as an out of county resident i paid $54 for a weekday round with cart. I am about a 14 hcp so I enjoy a nice challenging course. The course is old and pretty rough. Tee boxes are bumpy and not level. Fairways are crappy and hard. Rough is anywhere from nice grass to sparse hardpan, hard to tell which is which sometimes. Grass throughout is mixed, some lush and tight, some thin and stringy, i guess a product of many different seeds over the years. Green were in ok shape, they were very soft and lush, again spotted with different grasses. The greenskeeper is doing his job there. Really spongy when i played, could benefit from a roll, but are in far better shape than rest of the course. Greens have some contour but mostly like mini golf humps and ridges. Overall a boring muni course, nothing really great. Not worth cost. I personally wont play ever again. For me i rather play skyway in jersey city, an amazing public course.
The course was well kept but the staff were some of the rudest people I have ever met. With the exception of Vinny (I think that was his name) we were being told to hurry up our pace of play when we were waiting for the people ahead of us. The ranger came up to us 4 times to tell us to hurry up even when we explained that we couldn’t or else we would hit the team in front us. With such a mental game like golf you can’t do that. It’s unprofessional and frankly ridiculous. Would never golf here again. ( Vinny was very professional though)
Good layout but the course was punched earlier this week. Either way I am not sure it is really ever in good condition as the grass is pretty thin everywhere on the course. Also, listening to the starter yelling to his buddies across the parking lot as we teed off on 1 was pretty annoying
Extremely friendly staff, very accommodating. Greens and tee boxes are typically well kept. Really enjoy playing this course!
Course is alway in good shape. Great service from personnel. New course shorter but more fun for the average golfer. Fairways need work in the spring. Greens always in good shape.

Great golf and accommodating staff
The staff was very pleasant and accommodating.
Hendricks Field is a great course! The staff, conditions, flow here are always on point. I really have to give Joe D and the Essex County Parks system huge props as they maintain their golf courses second to none. Hendricks and the rest of the county courses are the best public courses I have ever played up and down the East Coast!
Good public course. Polite staff. However, the pictures are from Byrne, holes 10 and 1, not from Hendricks.
Is great change ????????
Wide open and forgiving. Stream not well marked

Course is in good shape, just need to cut rough.
Relaxing round.
This course has been getting better and better every year. The county has put a lot of money back into the course and the grounds crew has been hard at work making improvements to tees and bunkers. Not sure what Vinny is talking about.....certainly not a goat patch and the price is right.
It's a large field.
Perfect golf course
Good greens, scenery, price.
The couse was in excellent condition! Greens were very true! Course more challenging then ever!
where can i get details on when the course will reopen? is there an anticipated date?
Nice County Course
Very nice after the renovation
Had a tee time this morning and when I got there the gates were closed. Myself and 20 others had our tee times canceled without notice, very unprofessional. Other courses in the area you should play instead! Edit: Called back as they asked and told me basically it wasn't their fault, so much for getting this cleared up
Badly manicured lousy attitude from staff
Awesome picture perfect
Great place! Great people! Love playing it, not sure what angry Vinny is talking about the people are friendly the conditions are excellent for the price you pay!
This course once was in terrible shape, but over the years been greatly improved. Especially the t-boxes, and greens.
