3 friends and I thought we'd try out brunch at Fishy People Butchery's Fin Dining.
- there is not enough parking. Be prepared to walk or bicycle there.
- this is a small venue. Be prepared to wait, and expect it to be full.
- the coffee and bailey's was lovely. As was the kombucha mimosa, if a bit pricey.
- I ordered the bacon sandwich, add egg. The mustard and tomato jam were nice additions, a little build your own sandwich action. I felt the bacon was too thinly sliced for the feature of the entrée, and the egg (initially forgotten, brought out after a complaint) was definitely value added to an over toasted, dry crunchy sandwich. A little more char on the bread than I like and the egg was cooked on a dirty grill.
- a dining partner, when asked if they would order the fish cakes again, said no.
- another dining partner, who ordered the eggs Benedict, noted that the dish was not great. Their egg was a little undercooked for their preference, and they judged the hollandaise too thin. They did say that they would order it again, however.
- my third companion did not finish their pancakes and frozen fruit. They were disappointed that the fruit was served to them still frozen.
- I noted burnt grill detritus on my plate. Not cool.
- the table also shared a scotch egg, which was a delightfully executed take on a classic bar snack. Crispy crust without too much crunch, delightful fish based sausage, perfectly done egg, and very lovely little pickled accompaniments.
Overall, a positive experience, but I will go elsewhere for brunch next time.
