Huge selection of mature trees and bushes. Helpful staff. Their 9am delivery arrived at 1130 but they sent an extra body to help unload our tree. So overall good experience.

Staff are not particularly accessible, and can be difficult to identify as many (if not most) wear no form of uniform or identification. If someone is standing behind a cash register, fine, you assume they work there. However, trying to find staff among the greenhouses can be next to impossible, and when found more often and not it seems they need to wander off to find "someone else" who knows the answer to questions. "Local" or "family owned/operate" -- none of these things should mean any less professional than a big box store. It also wouldn't hurt to, at least during busy periods, have more than 2 cash registers in a single location -- so customers don't have to wheel a cart of plants from the other side of the property to join the line up at the single payment location. Or, have a system where circulating greenhouse/yard staff can issue an invoice to the customer who could then proceed to the cash to pay the invoice, possibly while staff loaded the customers purchases into their vehicle. That would be helpful.

I have shopped at Johnstons greenhouse for several years, based on their selection, quality, and very helpful staff.. On Mothers day 2018, A situation that would be beyond frustrating for any shopper, anywhere, was sorted out with calm, understanding and patience.. The manager on duty went above and beyond, by not only being exceptionally understanding of my frustrations, but also taking the time to listen and apologize, solidifying my decision to continue spending my money here. I Highly recommend coming here not only for the fantastic customer service, and plant knowledge they provide, but because they actually care about the customer.

The worst place. I drove in at 3:50, 10 min before they close. The gate was already closed but there where people in side the shop still. so i went in just needed to buy some vegitable seeds. That would take only a moment plus technically they were still open serving other customers. She told us to just go to home depot, and that we couldn't purcahse the seeds. Great thanks for your expertise that's exactly where I will take my business from now on. Definately lost a customer.

Best garden centre for Peterborough and surrounding area. I've shopped at Johnston's (and tried many other garden centres over the years) for over 20 years, and their plants, flowers and shrubs are outstanding. Very knowledgeable staff as well. No I don't work there!

Johnston's Greenhouse & Landscaping is as honest as they come. They've been a foundational business in the south end of our city, and have supported gardeners here for an incredible number of years. They grow all of their own plants and offer healthy trees, shrubs, perennials and annuals at great prices. Their landscaping group is posting some fantastic pictures of amazing transformations. I'd highly recommend Johnston's.

Love it here and the quality of plants. It's changed over the past few years though. Used to have an amazing show room with tons of decor, but nothing great anymore, kind of lack luster now. Also, it just feels different like the staff aren't really into you. They are still nice and customer service is ok, but you don't feel special like you used to. I don't know, it could just be something really amazing again.

In early May, I contacted Johnston’s. I'm new to Peterborough and have a balcony with a pair of large planters plus several smaller vessels which I wanted set up and planted. A small job but, as I explained, I’m in my 70s with some mobility issues which made it difficult for me to do. I called to ask if this was service which Johnston’s provided, and was told that it was. The woman with whom I spoke said that, because of the unusually wet spring, things were backed up for them at the time. She took my number, said she would call within two weeks to set up an appointment, and assured me that I wouldn’t be forgotten. Early in June, when it was evident that I had been forgotten, I called again and spoke with the same woman. She said that she would call the following week to set up an appointment. That was three weeks ago. July is now upon us and, instead a colourful little summer haven, my balcony remains a desolate collection of barren planters and pots. My experience with Johnston’s is best illustrated by words such as untruthful, unreliable and disrespectful. I would suggest taking the glowing reviews posted here with a few grains of salt.

I have used Johnston’s Greenhouse and also their landscaping Buisness. They do excellent work with both. There design ideas for landscaping is most professional. We also have them do our gardens and flower pots as well as care for our lawn. I would highly recommend them.

Literally just witnessed man in charge of the landscaping quotes completely ripping off a customer. Give a quote to repair damage without even seeing it. Then at the end of it requesting to be paid cash. Damage repair quote from any other contractor was between 300-500 dollars for 1 post and 1 spindle materials cost 170.00 to fix and this man charged 1582.00 and asked to be paid cash. I was told he would void the mans warranty for fence that was damaged if any other contractor did the job. I have been a loyal customer of Johnston's for 20 years. I have many family and friends who shop there as well that never will again. I hope that the small amount of money ya just ripped the man off for was worth the thousands in sales you just lost. Not to mention I'm in the process of building my house and you will not be doing any landscaping there either. Good luck to you I doubt business will last long run that way

I have been shopping at Johnston since we moved to Peterborough almost 30 years ago..purchasing all our trees and shrubs plus our annuals and perennials. I have never during this time had to use their "guarantee of one year" until recently. On May 1st I purchased 3 shrubs and called as they were not doing well..all the foliage had fallen off and the stems were going black...I called in August...I had been watering and baby them daily. I was told that I had not watered them enough...no empathy was shown...I felt brushed off. I am so very disappointed in a garden centre that I had been loyal to. Thank goodness for Griffins.

Great place! Just watch out for spider mites, they still use safers instead of predator mites. My beneficial insects took care of everything and we are now going here for all our plants and compost & mulch

Great plants, poor logistics. For some reason they are incredibly slow at the cashier. That should be an easy thing to get moving but the place wasn’t even busy and the pace at check-out was painful.
