If I could give a zero rating I would, but can't so 1 star you get just on looks....don't buy any vegetable seedlings from here! Every vegetable seedling i bought here didn't have enough root and died or bolted immediately. Big waste of money.

My wife and I have been buying plants, soil and fertilizer from New Roots Garden Centre since they took over a few years ago. I got to know Josh and Chris over the summer when they sponsored the Newmarket Jazz Festival and they went on to do fundraising campaigns for the Newmarket Food Pantry, Southlake Hospital and Doane House Hospice. This is the kind of businesses I enjoy supporting. Highly recommend!

I bought some expensive Peonies. I wanted white so I made sure to buy the ones indicated to be white!!! Only one was white..... and they might look like peonies but they sure do not smell like them....as the matter of fact they are NOT fragrant AT ALL!!! Very disappointed!

It was a beautiful afternoon with my wife at New Roots. Our first time here - and definitely not our last. A lot of the products here are top shelf, and a lot more affordable than at Home Depot or Canadian Tire. We were gently and patiently advised by a sweet elderly staff on how best to take care of our lawn, who also recommended the brands of grass seed, manure and soil to get.

Josh and his team are in a different league when it comes to this landscaping game, they aren't even playing the same sport. They transformed our prison camp gulag of a backyard to a respite of tranquility. We are no longer living in fear of getting shanked or shivved from the countless thistles and weeds that only Eeyore could love. We can now hide from Covid in our beautifully renovated backyard. These guys busted their butts in temperatures that makes me hope they start installing pools as well. Thanks so much guys. Worth. Every. Damn. Cent.

This company is amazing, kind and extremely generous. I work at a senior home and wanted to make Christians special for the residents. I posted on Facebook that I was looking for a tree and to see if anyone was able to help me out. New roots was great the offered to donate the tree to the home. It truly brightened up the holidays for the residents. Some residents would sit there and look out the window and talk to me or other staff members about the days where they used to cut down their own trees and bring them home for the holidays . This place is great! They carry garden and lawn equipment, indoor and outdoor plants, annuals and perennials, and all sorts of unique items. I recently bought some unique plants that I had been searching for here. The plants are all well taken care of and the staff are all friendly and knowledgeable.

We highly recommend New Roots Garden Centre. Josh came over and helped us plan new garden beds. He provided a very competitive quote for digging out the beds and planting several trees and shrubs. New Roots has some great selection of plants and trees and even offered to source out those that they didn't have in stock. Josh and Tina guided us with plants that would work in our garden, yet keeping in mind our preferences. The work was completed in a timely and professional manner. Inspite of the heat wave we experienced in July, the team worked within the schedule with no complaints. They even rejeuvenated one of our existing beds, giving it a much needed facelift. Infact when we contacted them to move two trees, they were prompt and co-operative. Just goes to show their level of customer service. Thank you Josh and the entire team! Many of the staff are quite unpleasant; not particularly helpful and quite rude over the phone. I have given them many opportunities to prove this wrong, but this has been ongoing for years. Have gone in several times during Covid and have yet to see staff wearing masks, inside or out and do not feel safe attending this business.

Everyone I dealt with at New Roots were an absolute pleasure. My request for a bin was fulfilled in a couple hours, drop off and pick up, quick and easy. When I went into the store they were friendly and so helpful. If you have garden needs etc. they're great to deal with. I'm going to deal with them in the spring when I do a bulk mulch delivery. You should go!

Been to this garden centre a few times now and quite impressed by their products they sell. I was shopping around different centres all over York Region, Markham and Scarborough but found the plants here were the best quality (especially the vegetable plants). All of them were healthy and even when I brought them home they lasted through harsh cold, wind weather. Prices are decent too. Their customer service is great too. They helped me out and recommended some products since I was a bit lost on what soil to use. Highly recommend this place if you're in the Newmarket area and want to support a small garden centre.

As soon as we walked in a elderly lady gave us attitude by saying we close in 30min. We knew this because we had called before arriving to find out what time they closed at. Other stuff members were very friendly. Overall would have been a 5 star but one person can ruin a perfect score. The items they had were very nice. Fair prices.

New Roots helped design our 2 new flower beds. They helped pick out flowers and shrubs that would compliment our other gardens, dug out the new beds and planted all the new flowers. The staff were very professional and friendly. When the gardens were completed not only did they sweep the sidewalk, they even swept up the road after they picked up the bin!!! I highly recommend them!

I had an excellent experience with this company. They originally gave me a quote back in 2018. They came back and revised it based on my new requests. They were on time daily. They adhered to and followed covid-19 protocols. They placed a bin in a safe place in compliance with town bylaws. They completed the work on schedule. They were on budget. Attached are some before phots of the area and photos of the progression: Day 1 - They added River Rock Day 2 - Removal of sod Day 3 - Screening Day 4 - Patio & River Rock Thank you to Josh and his staff. Looking forward to working on my front yard with your company. UPDATED: Thumbs down to New Roots ???????????????????? We agreed on a date for them to return to do my frontyard. Unfortunately Josh (owner) suffered an injury which caused his landscaping business to fall behind, along with staffing issues, he told me that he would give my number to someone to complete the job. I never heard from anyone. I stepped up and found a company, Perry Rose Landscaping. They had a window of opportunity to come and complete the job. They have an existing relationship with New Roots so they would have simply done the labor and purchased the raw materials from New Roots. I was ok with this because New Roots would still be involved and get a portion of the work. However, their inability to return phone calls closed the window of opportunity to complete the job. Now my frontyard won't be complete and Perry Rose Landscaping lost a business opportunity. On a personal note, I simply wanted the work completed so that my Mother with health issues could enjoy additional outdoor living space. This one stings because you go out of your way to try and demonstrate your loyalty to support local small business and you get screwed. Always try and support your local small businesses. I have been to this centre once before (back in the winter) and found the workers rather rude. Today, I decided to give them the benefit of the doubt and go back, as I love to support local. I have never been so disappointed with customer service. I was the ONLY one in the entire nursery and the two workers did not acknowledge me and were rather dismissive to the point where I put the items in my cart back and walked out.

An unknown bug is ruining my roses, the owner of this store who helped us to verify the bug and got us a right tool to get rid of them. She was so helpful and knowledgeable, as well as very understanding. Once my husband at the cashier, the staff wanted to make sure he knows how to use the tool and explained it again. The service is wonderful and I feel very secured that they are there to help me to resolve my problem. Even this place is bit far from where I live, but I'm sure will come again.

Nice selection and good quality but people here are a little rude. Ive shopped there 3 times over the past 4 years and every time I felt like I was lucky to shop there and lucky to be assisted by the people working there. Staff at New roots - at least say thank you when people spend money at your store. We can put up with lack of personality and having to chase you down for assistance but at least thank your customers for their business.

I just started going here this summer . They have what you want or need most of the time. While all other Big Box stores gardening centers are out of soil Triple mix . They have it with a smile :) I will be back !

My experience was pretty terrible as the older woman with short white hair who works in the annuals greenhouse area came up to me and reprimanded me for not putting the plants away properly when taking them out of trays. She did this in front of my kids so I left it but I will not support a business where the individuals who work there are like this. Better to support businesses where people don’t treat you like this.

It’s just ok. The several times that I’ve been here, I find the plants are not always in the best health. I’ve brought home a basil plant that had spider mites (my bad) and it ended up infecting my other herbs. I emailed back and fro with the staff here for a Eucalyptus plant -she was very helpful but when I came to pick up the plant, it looked sad and neglected that I just couldn’t bring myself to buy it. Prices are fair and they have a good variety of gardening tools. Love that they carry Fafard soil. I just wouldn’t come here for plants.

Unfortunately, the system does not allow me to put zero stars as this is what New Roots deserves for how they treated my wife and I. I placed an order for garden décor through New Roots last Oct. 9 2015. There were three pieces in total. Josh and Chris (owners) advised my wife and I that they would receive the order next spring. We said ok. I asked what is the process and Josh stated that once we receive the order at the Garden Centre, we'll call you to come pick them up. I said ok. May 2016 arrives and I decided to meet Josh in person at New Roots Garden Centre as I have yet to receive a phone call. I arrived and spoke to Josh. He showed me that there were two skids of wrapped garden décor that they had to go through so, it won't be just yet as it's a lot of work to go through. I said fine...just call me and let me know when to pick them up. Josh said ok. Two months plus pass (early July 2016) by and no phone call. I called and asked for Josh but, he was away at the time and I asked Chris about where I garden décor is as my wife and I would like to pick them up. Chris says, give me the list of the three pieces and I'll get back to you. I said ok and provided Chris with the list of names and codes of the garden décor that we ordered last October 2015. Two weeks pass by after that and no phone call. I call the garden centre back and I asked for Josh. A lady answered and said that he was working in the back. I said ok and asked her to have Josh call me back. I provided my name and phone number. Two to three days pass by and nobody called me back so, I called back again. The same lady picks up the phone again and I asked for Josh. He was not there and then I explained to the lady the situation and she understood and I basically, told her that we just want to pick up our garden décor. She said ok and I'll pass on the message. Nothing happened again for another two to three weeks. So, now my final call. Saturday Aug. 6th, 2016. I call the New Roots Garden Centre and the same lady picks up. I ask her if Josh is there and she says that he is on a delivery. I said to her enough is enough. Where is our décor? She said that they're not here. I asked why. She said that they were probably sold. I said what?! Why? She said that we lost the list. And I said what again?! I go this is ridiculous! I asked why didn't anyone call me back? She said that she just works there, Josh and Chris are the owners and you have to ask them why. I said that this is not right. I told her that my wife and I avoid big box stores to help out locally, family-run businesses instead and we get this treatment. I am very angry at why we were treated this way and this after purchasing a huge supply of bushes and trees from them. I will never step foot in this place again. I will also educate my family and friends about what happened to us and to avoid New Roots Garden Centre. Nobody cared to call us back and on top, they sold the pieces that we ordered and waited almost a full year to hear back and they just played us along. This is not good business practices. I will be writing my story with all the social media avenues that are available to me to publically, write my story for others to read.
