REVIEWS OF East End Garden Centre IN Ontario

Leon Mullings

What a disappointment, no sense of customer service. Just people sitting around gossiping.good selection of clay pots tho, that's why they got the second star.

Devin Wiles

Good selection of annuals and perennials that is constantly refreshed in the busy season. The staff is friendly when approached and the guys in the back are always quick to lend a hand getting stuff to your car. Would be five stars if they had a little more selection and if they were a little more organized. Either way, great local garden centre.

I was treated rudely, horribly. I called ahead regarding what time they closed— they said 6pm. I arrived at 535. I was nearly run into with a cart as they were closing down (at 535). When I asked for a tray (542) I was yelled at being told that their staff was tired and had been their since 8 and I could come back the next morning. This staff member was also very rude to her employees. Last year I purchased a great deal from this store and love the selection but I’m very upset over this experience.

For a small business in Toronto it amazes me how staff and owners of this place can get away with zero customer service. A smile, greeting is always lacking and they seem to not want you to be there, as if we are bother to them. The only time we ever get any kind of happiness is from Twyla who is there very rarely. I just can’t understand how people lacking in manners can survive in such a city. Honestly one of the most arrogant, rude and useless business I have ever ventured to in East Toronto.

I am a in-door house plant enthusiast and came to this store looking for cool indoor plants. I find their pricing a little expensive. The selection also was limited. I think this would be a great typical gardening center, but not for cooler plants.

Little Zen One

Great local shop, worth supporting. Be patient on the phone, instead - go in person if you can. Please remember they are working overtime to serve the community with great plants and advice. Highly recommend.

Emailed them a week ago and they said they had everything, and for me to come in to get a quote monday (today) morning. i told them it was for two separate orders for clients of mine. all of a sudden when i go down they cant fill my order. now im stuck plantless with two upset clients because i have to push the deadline back to find the plants they need. the garden centre didnt offer any reasonable explanation for this negligence either. im just left empty handed, thank you east end garden center. Edited; we are all going threw this pandemic its not an excuse for lying you said you had everything for me. i was under the impression i was comming for a quote and not to get an update on your stock or make you hold onto anything. if you had taken more then 5seconds to speak with me you would have found out i was trying to plant them ASAP as i have both gardens prepared for planting.

Had various type of vegetables, flowers, trees. I went there for spicy peppers and found few that I was looking for. Unfortunately, the carolina reaper were finished when I went there.

Always want to give these folks the benefit of the doubt, but all of the negative reviews confirm what I have felt when shopping at East End. Surely and ignorant owners and over priced. Never mind covid 19 problems. I've tried this place for 20+ years and never figure out why I return.

Vito Mezzapelli

I've been to this place for years. A great place to go for akl your gardening needs. Lovated in the centre of Leslieville. Staff are knowledgeable; pruces are good as well as servuice. Definitely your go to place for anything garden-related

The one thing that confirms to me that spring has truly arrived is my annual visit to the E.E.G.C. This year I was very excited as it's the earliest date I've been able to come. Sadly upon arriving I found out that the original owner of over 65 years passed away at the ag of 95. The business has been kept in the family and run by one if not all three of her very knowledgable daughters each with their own pair of dark green thumbs.if you stop by remember to pay your condolences.

East end Family Wellness

Great selection of plants and garden accessories. We come here for all our gardening needs. They offer really helpful advice for any of our inquiries.

I bought a plant from there that had a bad case of spider mites. I don't drive and didn't want to haul the plant back across the city so I am out 30 dollars for the plant I bought. I wound up throwing it out because I was nervous it would infect my other plants. Most plant stores quarantine the infected plants so the other plants don't get infected. Based on how many mites and the damage to the leaves they had been there for a while. It may have been delivered like that but it should have been quarantined again. You win some you loose some I guess. At least next time I buy a plant from a nursery I will know what to look for and not make the same mistake again.

Kathy Smart

Great customer service- very helpful. Big selection of plants, considering the size of the shop. All the plants look really healthy. Reasonably priced.

Jamillah Ross

This place might be my favourite place to buy a plant. And it's not even because of the plants! It's the staff that keeps me coming back for more. Now, don't get me wrong- the plants are great! But...there is something about the women that run this store, with a mixture of superior plant knowledge and just plain...superiority in every other way. Not even in a typical "karen" kind of way that usually annoys me. They are smarter than me about plants, and we BOTH know it so i always take their advice and they're always right. Fantastic Christmas trees! ????

Ana Camille Tucci Patterson

Some plants were not well cared for. They were dry as a bone and dying. They didn't have half the things that were listed on the website and there was noone around to help.

Clarence Yeung

Bought an Areca palm not too long ago and within a month it had spider mites infesting the whole plant. Had to throw it away. Reasonable prices but doesn't last long.

Kimberley Whitchurch

I love this family-owned garden centre, a longtime east-end institution next to the Connaught railyard. Year round, you'll find a selection of cut flowers, potted plants, and all manner of gardening tools and accessories. At Christmas …

Sincerely abysmal customer service. I love supporting local, but unless you know exactly what you need to get, what they have in stock and where it is in the store/outside, you'd be better off going to another store (e.g. Home Depot Garden Center or plant shops on Gerrard E of Broadview). I had tried asking 3 different, fairly straightforward questions and received the equivalent of a vague, effortless shoulder shrug. This individual inside had her mask worn improperly (half off), and the employee outside was not wearing a mask.

Lauren White

Great store for indoor and outdoor plants. The staff are extremely knowledgeable and friendly. I’ve gone mostly for indoor plants, which is a hit and miss given the pandemic and everyone buying plants right now, but great prices when you can find what you’re looking for.

Fantastic! Last year I had a really terrible experience with firewood delivery. The guy was a psycho. So this year I tried a different place: East End Garden Centre. They were very pleasant on the phone when I placed my order and everything went great. I even splurged this year and paid a bit extra to get the wood stacked. The delivery guys were super pleasant and did a fantastic job stacking--much better than I ever have. And the quality of the wood looks great. East End Garden Centre is definitely going to be my go-to place from now on. Thanks! 2021 Update The East End Garden Centre is always reliable. I’ve had firewood delivered for years now. And the quality of the firewood is first rate. I’m disappointed, though, for the first time regarding the fee to stack the wood on my front porch. It’s always been a $50 fee. That’s what I was quoted when I ordered this year’s wood. But I was charged $100. When I telephoned about this the staff member said “Yes, $50 to stack.” “So why was I charged $100?” I asked. The manager came on the phone and told me that the East End Garden Centre has doubled the amount of the stacking fee. But not only did they not tell me, they twice quoted the old $50 fee—when I called to make the order and when I called to ask about the change. She said that the staff would be told to quote the new, doubled fee. Not good.

Michael Gfroerer

The East End Garden Centre has an impressive selection of annuals and vegetable plants. They also feature garden supplies such as soil, gravels, and beautiful ceramic pots.

Heidi Schwarzkopf

It was my first time at this garden Centre. It had been recommended by my sister. My son had a good experience calling ahead to find out whether or not they had bags of gravel. Misleading signage by the bags of gravel exhorts buyers to pay …

I love the store people they were very freindly and helping .I forgot my plant pots while I was busy with the Uber. But tatoo lady outside brought all the way looking for me and handed over my stuff .I really appreciate her for getting my things back ..

Jimmy Lu

Really friendly and knowledgeable staff. They've got all sorts of plants and planting materials for all your gardening needs. Prices are reasonable but the store could be better organized.

It was our first time at East End Gardens. I needed a dwarf shrub for a gravesite. We went to The Home Depot first but they didn't have any, a very nice young lady at THD Curity Avenue told us about this nursery with directions. I was a little worried that we may not find the shrub that's why I called on our way there. My call was picked after two rings and upon inquiry I was told that they had some in stock. Upon arriving at the premises I was greeted by two ladies. The younger one then went on to help me find the shrub suitable to my need. It was super quick, all in all it took maybe 6 minutes? that too because I took my time choosing the plant. The inside of the place has a very nice old school feel to it. I found the whole experience very good.

This store is a must visit each spring and summer for various garden plants (herbs, veggies, annuals, perennials, roses) and supplies like soil, pots, gardening tools etc. It's a family run business that has been there since the mother/owner started the business as a young woman. The prices are reasonable and they continually get new stock. You can shop from the area out front, along the side of the store, behind the store and in a much larger area at the back of the store. As I said if it's spring or summer you have to visit!

Kara Del Aguila

Love this local garden centre. They have all kinds of hard to find items.

Mubina S

I have decided not to return to this store. I'm an avid gardener and living just up the street from this place have given them some business. I do get the owner can be a bit hard to deal with so I just keep out of her way but the employees are mostly wonderful. Sometimes I do ask questions and take my time. Today I was waiting for my turn to get inside the store, the owner asked me "you want to come inside to just look or you plan to buy?"....really! I didn't see her ask this of anyone else, I felt a bit discriminated...maybe this place is only for white ladies carrying Starbucks coffee. Goodluck!

saewan alyssa

I called asking if they sold sod and the lady on the phone was extremely rude and unhelpful. She laughed and said “no hunny it’s winter”. Which I understand it’s hard to get sod this time of year but it’s not impossible. Anyways as I was speaking and going to ask if she recommended another place she hung up on me. Poor customer service.

Noreen McDermott-Santilli

Wonderful urban garden centre that's a bit of a disorganized warren, but that's the fun of it. You'll find anything you need, and at a fair price. They have a good selection of plants, bulbs, perennials, annuals, shrubs and trees. The staff are helpful, knowledgeable, no nonsense ladies. At Christmas they have a great selection of trees that don't dry out because they bring them in weekly from Hockley valley tree farms. We never go anywhere else, winter, spring or summer.

René Tdrff

They basically lied to me over the phone and told me they had bags of HPB, so I went there and then they tried to convince me that pea gravel is HPB... Don't know if they tried to lie to me about that, or they didn't know themselves. Then …

Leslie Stoute

Love this place. Quick and convenient... They also did my front lawn and porch!!! Always ready to give advice which is great because I have no idea how to take care of my front or backyard!!!

KELIS S. MILKSHAKE

My details of my experience at this place are because of that lady's review saying they were the best! And you know what? Turns out, they are the best. Thanks lady from a day ago!

Barbara Goslawski

Today was the last straw. I'm an avid gardener but I'm done with this place. The employees are mostly wonderful here but I never know when the owner is going to have one of her moments and get nasty for no reason. Sometimes I just ask a question and it happens. It happened in the summer and it happened today. Twice in one year and more than enough for a lifetime. If you don't like people, don't do retail. I'm not going to support a local business just because it's there. Merry Christmas.

Michelle S

Overall rude employees and the prices and the selection are not worth it for the hassle. During COVID19 they literally yell at you to use recycled bags over your hands to pay in store (as in bags that other customers have used over their hands, as there was clearly no disposal method for these bags as there was one bag at entrance). Unsure how this is keeping germs from spreading as it seems like more of a method to spread further. Recommended to go to another nursery where people are kinder/friendlier and a proper system is in place during these times.

yicancu56

Called in and asked if they had three plants in their location. They said that they were busy and couldn't help me. I recommended to be put on hold and they said no and to come into their store to see the stock. How about no, Sheridan and Humber were busy and put me on hold and told me the prices nicely and calmly. I went in turns out they don't have the house plants I need so thanks for wasting my time ladies.

Carolyn P

The selection at this local gem are great. Anything for small balconies to huge lots. They have it all. Everyone who works there has great knowledge and bad attitudes. No joke. But, hey, there's something refreshing about a bunch of knowledgeable grumps.

Angela Sanderson

Always great seasonal selections and high quality!

Lynn Morra

Rude staff. Plants are not great...place overrated.

Right from the beginning our experience with East End Garden Centre has been wonderful. Year after year Nancy has done a wonderful job with coordinating our Christmas tree. Then today .... there are times when unheralded customer service is forgivable…today is certainly not one of those times. Phil and Judy from East End Garden centre not only helped haul a 12’ tree into our upstairs media room, they held the tree in place while we replaced a broken stand – and then proceeded to spend more time helping us get the tree just right. All this, with the warmth and friendliness of an old friend. Need I say more? Customer for life.

Kealin Williams

I live in Leslieville so have tried this location a handful of times, and continuously treated poorly. I do not know why, however the older women that own the place / manage continuously speak to me and my partner in a condescending matter. Yes they have a variety of choice, however their customer service is trash.

Marlene Gris

This garden centre has quite a selection of everything you would need for your garden. It is very busy in early spring so shop on weekdays and be aware that there is only busy street parking. Right now they have quite a pile of reasonably priced Christmas trees. The owners do work very hard and are very busy so don't expect pleasantries but that does not prevent me from supporting them and getting a fair price.

peggy peggy

I have been going to this place for years as I live right up the street. I find them to be quite friendly and knowledgeable. They have a wide variety of soil, mulch and spring gardening needs. A must for pumpkins, decorations and Christmas trees. PS- I am the lady with the little red wagon!!

Here was my experience ordering plants with this shop : 1. I took a few days for me to get a hold of someone over the phone. The line …

Sophia Dhrolia

So helpful! They helped me understand the plant I wanted to get and how to take care of it. I will definitely go back for any garden and plant needs! I love that it's local as well!

I don't write many reviews but felt it necessary given the poor service we recently received from EEGC. We were looking for help improving our small front yard ready for the summer and after looking online Judy and team seemed to get good reviews. The project started off well enough, with a competitive price and 'no nonsense' approach to making our yard ideas a reality. After that point things went rapidly downhill, with endless delays coupled with flimsy excuses and countless broken promises to call back and reschedule. We can only assume the project wasn't profitable enough to warrant their attention. Highly disappointing.

Metal Mama

They buy things from the dollar store, mark up the prices and then resale them. The oldest lady is the rudest person I have ever met. I've heard her yelling at staff. It was very degrading. No wonder they have a high turn over of staff. Will not return to this store.

Diane Tyler

Lots of Christmas greenery and trees, wreaths, fresh garlands, berries decorations.good prices

MrMuugoo

My family has been using the east end gardens for decades without an issue. A wide variety of plants, garden equipment and various things needed for your lawn. Their prices for vegetable seedlings can’t be beat.
