I had the pleasure of working at Fallingwater for nearly two years. My tenure would have certainly been longer if life circumstances had been different and I hadn’t moved away from Victoria. Rarely have I ever been a part of such a strong team and culture, and I’ve been blessed to be employed in some incredibly positive and effective working environments in my past.
Fallingwater truly stands apart as a company that cares for their employees. From the owner down to the supervisors down to the technicians, everybody cares about one another and seeks to support in all the ways they can. It’s a remarkably forward thinking, progressive, and compassionate group that brings out the best in all its people. This, in turn, allows each crew to offer their very best to the customer.
At the heart of everything Fallingwater does is the customer. By treating its employees as well as it does, the customer benefits from a motivated team of like-minded individuals offering their best day-in and day-out. This attitude is fostered from the top on down, making for an extraordinary culture to be a part of. Top quality service is the ever present goal, and everybody seeks to fulfill it.
The owner, Wes, has a vision for the company and its employees that he has been boundlessly pursuing for years. The progress was incredible to watch even in the span of two short years. Employees have had schooling, certification courses, and other educational opportunities provided for them. Professional advancement isn’t just suggested, it’s encouraged. Prior to COVID the team frequently met for meetings meant to inform and bolster camaraderie and performance. Even after COVID and all of the pandemic’s challenges, Fallingwater strove to do the best it could for its employees and thereby its customers.
Perhaps the best example I can give of my positive experience with the company is following a concussion I sustained while on the job. I slipped innocently in a slick patch of mud on site and cracked my head open on a rock. The team instantly set me to the side, I was taken to the hospital and supported 100% through the whole injury and recovery phase. Fallingwater made sure I was looked after with WCB, checked in on my well being throughout my gradual return to work process, and showed genuine concern for my well being the whole time. I was treated as a valued person, not a disposable means of income or an inconvenient burden.
Aside from my concussion, the company and my bosses supported me when my dog and longtime companion passed away, when the stresses of life and work got too heavy and I needed an extra day off, and they were always there to help if there were issues on site I wasn’t sure of. It was such a pleasure being a part of a company that had your back so completely.
I’m genuinely grateful to have had the opportunity to work at Fallingwater. It was a tremendous experience right across the board. Rarely was there a bad day, and there was always a compassionate coworker or supervisor to chat with.
It would be a failure on my part to not give enough credit to so many of my former co-workers. They were an incredibly diverse group of individuals with different backgrounds, stories, and life goals. Yet all of them were compassionate, genuinely kind, and incredibly good people. Every day felt like having a counsellor, close friend, teacher, and/or gardening expert on hand. I still can’t decide if this was the cherry on top, or the biggest positive of my whole experience at Fallingwater.
For anyone seeking employment opportunity here, I greatly encourage it. So long as you have a passion for helping others, working with plants and landscapes, and wish to bolster such a proactive culture then this is as good a place as any.
I highly recommend Fallingwater. About as much as I possibly can.
