DO NOT BUY HOUSEPLANTS HERE UNLESS YOU WANT PESTS!! Just wanted to put a PSA out there to please be aware that Lakeland’s houseplants have mealy bugs this year. I found them in two pearls and jade pothos I got there this year, which spread to some of my other plants. A lot of other local houseplant collectors have had the same issues there this year and in previous years.

I bought four planters from them, very much on the expensive side. I realized afterwards that they contained a mix of plant species that have different sun requirements, i.e. some full-sun and some part-shade. That makes them fairly incompatible and difficult to place properly. Two days after putting the planters out, I found a bumble bee displaying signs of poisoning (extended proboscis, twitching limbs) right beside the planters. I had observed it nectaring on the trailing lobelia that day and the previous one. It died within a couple of hours. I wrote to ask them whether the planters were treated with insecticides; they responded that they did not. When I asked them to confirm whether their supplier did (those who grew and sold them the planters), they did not respond despite a third follow up email. I understand this is a busy time in the nursery business but given the nature of the question, it seems they are very much unwilling to address very legitimate concerns. Pollinators are facing numerous environmental threats, not least of which is the presence of insecticides in the environment. I fully expect that the ornamental annuals I purchase do not contribute to their declines. Lakeland Plant World's lack of responsible follow up on this very important issue was disappointing.

Favorite nursery in darmouth, staff are friendly well informed and the store is very well stocked when in season. They have tropicals that are hard to source and fruit bushes that even I (a formally trained farmer) have never seen before. Well done guys!

Customer service tip: When dealing with a customer, you don't answer the phone and have a chat. WiFi is too weak to work. And bring a sweater in cool weather. But the staff person was friendly.

The staff are actually helpful and the flowers are all so nice that it's a pleasant experience even just to walk around and look at everything.

Tons of variety in plants/flowers/trees/shrubs and knowledgeable staff. They have a good warranty program for shrubs and trees, but you do have to pay into it. It was good value to us as we lost about $120 in shrubs due to early frost. We have been a couple of times to pick up products that were sold out but that can happen anywhere. We also find their prices a bit higher than average, but the added value is in the great team of staff and depth/variety of products.

I went to return a hanging plant bracket today and was told that unless I returned it "on the day I purchased it" - which was 2 days ago, I could only get a store credit. This was a $40.00 cast iron hanging bracket that was too large to fit into the space I had available . It was in mint condition still in original wrapper yet the staff were adamant that it was not returnable. This is fitting with all the poor customer reviews I have read on this place. They are on their way out and their overpriced, lack of service store will soon go the way of the dodo as other more customer friendly choices take over from this stuck in the cold war nursery. Evolve or disappear. I do not recommend this store for anything other than those really hard to find plants that you cant get anywhere else. Even then it is cheaper to drive up to Blomidon or Baldwins than pay the exorbitant fees here jsut to be treated as a criminal.

I found this gem of a place last year and wouldn't go anywhere else for plants. Their flowers are spectacular and are so healthy they last all season. The staff are not only helpful but knowledgeable too! I had such great service from Fabio today. He was quick to offer help and had an answer to every question I had. Highly recommend!

Whatever you do, don’t buy trees from this vendor. I bought 20 expensive little trees to form a hedge on my property. They have been planted as per instructions and well cared for. One has perished and will interrupt the hedge. I took my receipt back to Lakeland to get a warranty tree. The manager tells me the trees are warranted for one year. What kind of a warranty is that? They offered to order me one at a huge cost, as the trees are now 3 feet tall. I called in an arborist to assess the tree. He said that these trees are not native to this area and was surprised that any of them survived. I am not happy about this as I invested $2000 in this project including supplies. This does not include any labour to carefully plant these trees. If you want to purchase and plant multiple trees, call an arborist, as Lakeland does not have one on staff. There are lots of choices for landscape suppliers. I would buy from anyone except these guys, as they do not stand behind their products. I have purchased from others and had issues. All issues were resolved professionally. That is, except the issue with Lakeland. Oh, and Krown rust control in Halifax does a much more thorough job of undercoating as well. I see that the manager has replied to my review. As I trust a trained arborist over a store manager, I am sticking with the arborist. I bought 20 trees. They weren’t healthy when I bought them. I nursed them along and one died. The others aren’t the best. I was asking for one tree to maintain my hedge structure. So, once again the consumer, loyal customer loses. Its called customer service people! Oh, and don’t buy anything here unless you are absolutely sure you aren’t going to return it. They will only give you a store credit. You can’t even get your own money back. Product is much cheaper elsewhere. And don’t forget, the Krown dealer in Halifax does a far better job of undercoating your vehicle.

Great greenhouse and plant store. Got some great, reasonably priced indoor plants. Not your generic leafy greens but really unique indoor plants. They had an end of the session fall sale with some really great deals. I'd come back in the summer to see thier full collection, worth a visit.

I recently bought a whole bunch of perennials and a week later went back to return two that weren't suitable. I was told that they don't accept returns of perennials but would do me a 'favour' and give me a store credit this time (even though I had paid cash). Nowhere on the receipt does it say that you can't return plants that are in the exact same original condition so shame on them for making a customer feel so awkward.
