REVIEWS OF Accusharp & Small Engine Services IN North Vancouver

I have been bringing my gas lawnmower here for years to service it and they have always been pleasant to deal with and on time when they said it would be ready. Today my old pressure washer bit the dust and they gave me good advice and a good deal on a new one. I'm really not sure what the negative reviews are all about, this is a great, local little shop!

Deni Gaconi

Terrible service and very rude !!!

Treeline Management

Jonathan is terrific !! My company and I have been going here regularly since 2015 . I very much like that I’m dealing with the owner who also personally repairs the machines I bring in. I can’t imagine it’s easy dealing with customer service and being the “repairman” but I assume that’s how he’s able to keep his prices so low . I’d recommend this place to anyone !

(Translated) It's a friendly and professional shop. There are many tools related to home and garden, and they are good at repairs. They have many tools for garden works and house works. The owner is very good skill to repair tools. I,m very happy their service. (Original) 친정하고 전문성 있는 샵이예요. 집이나 가든관련 tool이 많고 수리도 잘해요. They have many tools for garden works and house works. where do I start hmm...... the Korean guy at the counter is amazingly bad and rude, he's probably the owner or something. He clearly lives in a cave, whatever he said about my Ryobi variable speed trimmer and edger were wrong, and he even start to argue that there is no variable speed cordless trimmer (again amazing, made me want to laugh at him but I did hold my cool). Didn't give me a chance to explain the problem I had with the string feeder, he just tried a couple times and said it works (yeah for a caveman). There are a few other things made me want to just laugh, but i'll leave for you people to find out :). Recommendation: If you really need something fixed, look else where, this place doesn't even worth a bike ride. however, if you are looking for some amusement, do check out the store and talk to the guy.

worst customer service. Don’t ask them questions, just don’t go there. This what happened. After I told them the issue, “you can bring it to here”, that was the answer, and also I want to know how much they will charge me. “Can’t tell till see the unit” was the the answer. So I drive from coquitlam to North Vancouver (1hour and 20min driving), they told me leave the unit there for 2 weeks! 2 weeks! 2 weeks! Are they trying fix a Optimus Prime, ( that probably need two week). And also trying to charge me about $200. Funny, the unit was $320+tex( 5years ago). If you do have 2 weeks of free time, and live near by and also don’t mind spending half of the price to fix a 5 years old machine. Go ahead. if you pay full price for culls you are being rooked.

Mohammad Motallebi

A local service shop with local owners. Very good service and fair pricing. They fixed our very expensive pressure washer.. thank you sir!

Jamie Kuse

Terrible - I should have listened to the reviews. Took my gas lawnmower in for a tune up. I then took it home after $170 of work (more than the mower was probably worth), only to have it leak gas all over my vehicle. Took it out when I got home, tried putting more gas in and realized it was pouring right out of the carburetor out of the mower. Patio and vehicle now covered in gas, mower even more broken than it was before. I went back and the owner begrudgingly refunded me, but not before trying to somehow blame me for the whole thing. Drive 10 minutes further to a shop with better reviews, trust me.

Bad service.

Worst experience I have had and will never go back. Owner is verbally abusive. I searched on-line for services in Vancouver and found this shop based on location, however, given the pour reviews already on-line, I still went. I suggest reading all reviews about this place, it sounds like my experience is common. The owner, whom is the subject of so many pour reviews on-line, is whom helped me. Henry, I believe. When asked if he would only replace the carborator on my weed trimmer, he then proceeded to tell me that I know nothing of engine repair. He yelled at me claiming that he would not gareentee his work, if he didn't replace all part on the machine. When asked why replace parts that are still working, he again tore into me. Within 5 mins of being in the shop, he was asking me to find a different repair shop. I did just that and found Clyde's small engine repair 15 mins later where I had exceptional services. I can't warn people enough about Accusharp -- I will never ever go back here.

He stole my chains.

I have purchased parts and had service from AccuSharp several times with great enthusiasm and I am very satisfied with the results.

David McAdam

Took care of my sharpening needs. Quick turn around and fairly priced.

Brought a chainsaw to them after giving Arrow equipment four chances to fix. they diagnosed it quickly as low compression and installed a new piston and cylinder and now the song runs great. Thank you for the good work. if they're all tested the compression right off the bat we wouldn't have had any issues and I wouldn't have been introduced to the nice guy at accusharp

Been there for over 50yrs, Honest and Reliable

I called this morning about a blade replacement for my lawn mover. The owner answered and I was asking him about my options when he cut me off and told me to stop talking, we were maybe 20 seconds in to the call and I had said very little. When I responded by saying his tone seemed unnecessarily rude, he simply hung up on me. I had a look at other reviews of this company and found several complaints from others saying he was rude and has terrible customer service skills. Guess he'd rather be a jerk that get new customers. I would recommend looking elsewhere, this guy doesn't deserve the business.

Reza Raminafshar

This guy is a psychopath, went to their shop on Easter, he was really behaving unusual and didn’t want to answer any questions, super bad customer service, got mad at me when he found out that I got my lawn mower from Homedepot. Kept asking me to pay deposit and sign his paperwork and didn’t want to answer any questions. Better to take lunch break or see a doctor before standing there at the counter. Won’t go there again and don’t recommend this business at all.

Scott Taylor

I called for a price on blade sharpening and couldn't hear what They said , asked Them to repeat the answer louder , and got NOTHING ! Not Impressed !

Alyssa G

They "fixed" my lawnmower so it worked once and then never again. Fixed should mean it works continually, not just once :(

matt dorlings

Repair prices are too high. they charged me $180 to replace a spark plug and change the air filter on my lawnmower. It broke again 3 days later... Beware of the $35 hidden service charge to anyone who brings any item for repair into the store and decides not to go through with she sky high quote. The Korean guy is a difficult guy to deal with to say the least... The Previous owner was much better

Peter Walter

I own a medium sized painting company with several Pressure-washers, blowers, generators, etc. I used to go to Arrow Equipment as they are only a few blocks away from our shop... used to until I called them up and asked if they would work on my generator which I was desperate to have fixed and the guy on the phone said they weren't interested in fixing it as it "wasn't worth their time" Needless to say I wasn't impressed and started to look elsewhere. I'm glad I did. The owners and staff at Accusharp took all my equipment and handed it back running better than new. They were knowledgeable and informed me of ways I could avoid the problems they fixed. An excellent experience and it's nice to know I'm worth their time.

David Potter

Great repair shop that sell garden tools, lawnmowers, snow blowers etc

Brutal service and overpriced. Run don't walk away from this Company. I was a long serving customer and was willing to overpay for big ticket items in order to support a local small business. The straw that broke the proverbial camels back for me was when they refused to sharpen one of my tools as the were too busy. They are never too busy to try up sell you but when you need service their rudeness is displayed. They would not even offer to do the job when they were less busy as I was not in a rush. Although, I was forced to drive across town to Quality Saw and Knife the level of service is not comparable. I wish I could give them only 1/2 star.

I can validate these horror stories. Took my lawnmower in last year because it wouldn't start. $80 tune up later it was running again. After 15 uses it failed again - owner at Accusharp claims it's bad gas. He gets quite agitated when I challenge him on that, as it was fresh gas - and I've never had this problem with previous gas mowers. He says that lawnmowers MUST be tuned up every year. Will NOT be taking any business back to him again. You've been warned, go elsewhere.

Ben Richards

Took care of my warranty issue, professional and quick. Will use and recommend again

John McKay

Customer service is strange. The guy at the counter is not interested in showing the products and is irritated by questions. Now I didn't want to write a bad review but I felt compelled to warn people about Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. As of now, I will not shop at this establishment anymore.

I just read the Google reviews about Accusharp and I am dumbfounded - either they are fake or there was a previous owner. I have been cooking for 45 years so I know what I'm talking about - NOBODY can put an edge on my knives like Jonathan Lee. There's a myth that expensive knives are better, that's wrong, my knives are $20 or less but when he gives them back they are like razors, and they stay sharp longer than anywhere else I've been too. I drive from Port Moody to North Vancouver because I don't trust anybody else.

My Lawnmower went in for a tune up. I was given a quote that was reasonable at 79.00 before typical parts required total approx. 130.00. Four days later I was called and informed spark plug ( typically checked and replaced in a tune-up) was stripped and they wanted additional 70.00 to replace cylinder head. I was told Tune-up was 'already done' and felt backed into a corner with no way to cancel...Not sure how the tune up was done when the spark plug was not ready......After questioning why the tune-up was done without notifying me first, the owner reluctantly agreed to cover cost of cylinder head. Thanks for make it right and I will be back.

I have been a customer at Accusharpe for 7 years now, I have purchased new equipment, and also had many repairs done for some older motors. I have found the proprietor to be very knowledgeable, friendly and efficient. Today the manager gave me a free part for my 10 year old lawn mower. I wish that there were more business people like this on the North Shore

Scott MacKenzie

Fast and friendly service. Over the many years Johnathon has sharpened blades, repaired my mowers, snowblower, and chainsaw. I'm always happy with the results!

Lucy Komori

I googled local businesses to have my lawnmower repaired and came across Accusharp. I called them up and to my surprise, they were opened on Good Friday. The man who answered the call felt that fixing an electric mower would be no problem. I assumed I would need to leave the machine at the shop and pick it up in a few days. The mechanic/owner took one quick look at the machine and immediately figured out what to do. He rolled the mower into the shop and replaced all the worn parts. In less than 5 minutes, he was finished and had our lawnmower humming like new.

Been going here for a couple of years now. I think I remember the grumpy guy that other viewers were unhappy with, and I don’t think he works there anymore. Regardless, I can tell you that I love this place. It’s local. The (husband & wife?) team are very friendly. Very knowledgeable about the equipment they sell and repair. No up sell, in fact just bought a lawn trimmer there an hour ago, and was asking about the model above. I was told that I didn’t need it. Is that a down sell?? Anyways, 10/10 for this place. Rob Wood

Zach Ferance

Helped me start up my business with chainsaws and the like. I always return for maintenance because the prices are reasonable and Johnathon is very knowledgeable.

Ron

The repairman is very impatient and seems to enjoy making customers feel stupid: He comes from Asia and speaks less-than-perfect English. I visited him on a Friday morning at 9:00 when there was no one else in the store. I had my string trimmer with me and asked for a little plastic eyelet that was missing from the bumper head. He had it in stock but when I tried to insert it, the fit was very loose. I questioned that problem in a quiet, polite tone of voice. Despite that, the ensuing 10 minute conversation was unlike anything I have experienced in 50 years of dealing with service people. When I didn't understand his explanation immediately, he became agitated and constantly shook his head and rolled his eyes, -- as if he was talking to a moron. I heard several times, "I've already told you that before." He walked away twice and then came back within 10 seconds to berate me some more for not understanding him. This gentleman needs to learn that although that kind of behaviour may be tolerated in other countries, it will not garner him any return business in North America. My advice: Find another service place unless you are very thick-skinned and don't mind being told, indirectly, that you're stupid. And, lest you think my case is an isolated one, skim through the other Google reviews on Accusharp.

Reza Falsafi

Very friendly and helpful gentleman. Super happy. Thanks

Wayne Roberts

Been going to this business for years , I have never had a problem with staff or service.

Ken Bryden

I have had table saw blades sharpened by Accusharp, and am taking my lawnmower there. I have never had a problem and they do excellent work.

John Fullerton

His prices are fine, but the customer service is not great.

allan noble

great service, good pricing, use for lawnmower and sharpening blades

I highly recommend Jonathon at Accusharp services in North Vancouver for any small engine products and service. I own and operate a small garden and tree care service on the North Shore and only go to Accusharp for parts and service for my small engine repairs. I find the prices to be competitive and their expertise on their product line top notch!

Tobias Oliver

Amazing service, bought my first chainsaw from here. Jonathan is very knowledgeable, polite and informative. He helped me troubleshoot when i couldn't get my chainsaw working. I would recommend anyone to buy they're chainsaw, lawnmower or gardening tools here.

Craig Johnston

Sorry, Accusharp, but you should get a front desk person who can at least pretend that customers are not a nuisance; keep Mr. Angry in the back, working on engines!

Cameron Campo

This man told my mother her self propelled lawnmower was not worth fixing and then sold her another lawnmower way overpriced. She knew that he was overcharging but she thought she would help him out because the shop was slow because of covid. Now she has mowed her lawn a few times and the new mower is not working. She went back to the shop to ask for help and he told her to go away he was busy. PLEASE DO NOT GIVE THIS SHOP YOUR BUSINESS .

Bryan B

I needed a new grass bag for my Craftsman lawnmower but was unable to find one now that Sears is out of business. I contacted Craftsman themselves, but they only provide parts for new Craftsman equipment, not the older Sears stuff. I also contacted several other local and online dealers but not one of them was able to get me a replacement grass bag. I then contacted Accusharp and spoke to Jonathan who said he would have to investigate who manufactured the Craftsman bag for my particular lawnmower model and then see if he could order it. It turned out that Husqvarna was the manufacturer and he would have to bring it in from out of the province. The new bag arrived a couple weeks later but it wasn’t the right one despite the fact Accusharp provided the correct information on the make and model. This happened again and again – a total of 4 times – until they finally sent Accusharp the correct bag. I feared Jonathan was going to give up but he never wavered and he always kept me up to date with the latest. Plus, after all the effort he put into it, he still only charged me for the cost of the one bag I needed, nothing extra. There aren’t a lot of businesses around anymore that would go through all that trouble for a minor sale to a single customer. I can’t recommend Accusharp highly enough. They’ll be getting all my business from now on.

Padishar Creel

If you ask any questions in the hope of trying to learn why your machine isn't working he gets immediately angry and arrogant -2 stars
