I always buy my gardening stuff there to encourage local.(over 10 years) This morning, I went there to buy promix soil, kiwifruit plants and tomato's cages. Even if I have an health exemption, wearing a faceshield and all the stuff are outside....they refuse me the access. Since I have more than 5 friends who has a bad experiences for pickup...I decided that I will stop encouraging that company. I found a nice place in Dartmouth who allow me to order and see their plants outside with my faceshield. However, if people wants to know if it's a good place to buy healthy plants, organic soil and gardening products, I will say go there in a heartbeat! But it's a no for me...Sorry but you lost an old custumer

I was in for vegetable seeds so I can not comment on other parts. They have a large assortment of seeds although they did not have baby carrots but they did recommend another type so I will try those. Good prices on seeds; definitely comparable to others in the HRM. Staff was great. I worked with two staff members while there and their assistance was fantastic. They had great recommendations and were familiar enough with the products to be able to discuss different options of direct sowing and/or transplanting. I will definitely return for tomato transplants.

Forced to order online with a two day turnaround. I needed to add two items to my purchase and the staff were unwilling to help me out and forced me to order online again with the 2 day turnaround. I ordered the items on Amazon instead. Also saw an elderly customer who didn't have internet get turned away without being able to order his items. Staff need to be a little flexible when serving customers and learn a thing called customer service and going above and beyond.

A few times some of the seeds I purchased from here didn't sow or barely had any seeds germinate and these guys allowed me to try some additional seeds at no extra cost. They were also happy to replace a light that had burned out within its first year of use. This is usually my go-to for local gardening needs.

This store lives up to it's name for a number of reasons. 1) It is in Halifax, Nova Scotia. 2) They sell a large variety of seeds. 3) It is a company in the sense that they accept money for goods except when they don't sell such goods so do not go here asking for burgers or pizza or credenzas because they DO NOT SELL CREDENZAS AT THE HALIFAX SEED COMPANY. I cannot stress enough that you cannot purchase furniture of any kind here unless you consider growing racks as furniture in which case they SELL THAT. SEEDS AND PLANT RELATED ITEMS ONLY. BE WARNED. I got a lot of strange looks when asking for a dining room set but wound up leaving very happy with everything I needed to grow a number of different vegetables such as tomatoes and cucumbers and beans and peas and they had seeds for other stuff like basil which is a plant made of leaves. This is good because I don't trust some stores which sell things like the things I previously listed. SHOP HERE IF YOU DO NOT NEED FURNITURE.

I regularly dress up my salads and sandwiches with fresh sprouts from Halifax Seed Company seeds, and in spring am going to go all out in creating a year-round garden - with their help.

I purchased your tomato seeds from England at my local greenhouse and I sent them to my Mother for Mother's Day. She opened them and some of the packages only had 6 seeds in them. That is some expensive! What are you going to do to make this right? Feeling ripped off in Pleasantville, N.S.

I unfortunately had a really terrible customer service experience at this store. I placed an order for store pickup and received a confirmation email, but never received a followup email stating my order was ready. After waiting quite a few days I called the store and was told the order had been ready for days, and that I needed to pick it up soon or I wouldn’t be able to get into the store to get. I was frustrated by the way the conversation went on the phone because I spent days waiting for the email but the person on the phone made it sound like it was my fault. Within an hour I was outside the store. I called the number to let them know I arrived. I waited for over 20 minutes and watched people come after me, get their much larger orders, and leave. I got out of the car to ask if my order would be ready soon. They said they had to repackage it because part of it got lost. I found that weird because on the phone the person said it was sitting there for days. Then someone else comes out and tries to tell me my order was picked up days ago! I said that wasn’t possible. Then I gave him my order info again and within 30 seconds he came out with my order, but never once was I given an apology. If I didn’t get out of the car to say something I think the staff would have been quite happy to let me keep sitting there waiting. Needless to say I won’t ever come back to this place again and I’ll definitely make sure to tell my friends and family about this experience.

I have purchased seeds from this company from stores for many years and have been happy with their product. This year I decided to make my purchase online. They had a good selection of seeds, however after making my order on 4 occasions (taking over an hour each time) my orders never went through. Called the Saint John store location, as it is more local to me, was told they would call the NS location as they are the ones that deal with online orders and someone would get back to me. Waited 2 days. No reply. Called the NS location, left a message and was finally contacted. Asked if I would email my order to them and they would see that it placed. Spent another 2 hours making out my order and email. Sadly a few things I wanted were no longer available. I did get a response saying they received my email and needed a few pieces of info to have the correct sales tax information. Once they had that I would be sent the total and I was assured my or order would be made. Here we are 4 business days later, still no order.

This review is concerning the Halifax Seed branch office in Saint John. As they are the same company, I think it good to provide my following experience. "Approximately four weeks ago I dropped a push mower off at Halifax Seed for a small warranty job. The spring had broken in the starter recoil. After two weeks I called to see where it was and they informed me that because they do so much warranty work that they had not gotten to it. Now four weeks later I called them for an update. Remember this is a spring that needs to be replaced and can be done in 15 minutes by myself. They told me it was done and that they are not sure if it is covered under warranty and that I will have to wait longer for this to be cleared up. Of course he said that I could just pay for it if I really need it. So, the conclusion is, Halifax Seed's warranty work is slow, and they will end up trying to charge you for the warranty work in the end. Based on this experience I will never buy something from them and the warranty isn't work the paper its written on."

Terrible customer service. You phone and press number 2 when prompted to speak to retail store and nobody ever answers the phone. Plus they never seem to have stock in like other garden centers when I call looking for strawberries and asparagus, they don't know when they're going to be in either, while all other garden centers already have them in, so I gave my business to them instead. Also how come other garden centers can be open during the pandemic but Halifax seed closes its doors to the public? I will no longer be giving halifax seed business if they cant offer better customer service and be open like other garden centers for in-store shopping

Paid a premium for seeds. My pepper seed pack came with 8 seeds and my tomatoes came with 10 seeds. None of my peppers germinated and only a handful of my tomatoes did. Was charged 10 bucks for shipping from Halifax to Truro. Contacted the business and was gaslighted and most of my questions were not answered. Super awful customer service. Like the worst I have ever experienced. I'm not stupid and refuse to be treated as such. They also say that canada post charged them 10 dollars to send my package and I highly doubt that. I had a better experience buying my seeds at walmart. Got a bunch and they all germinated. Highly recommend avoiding this business, because if a problem arises, they will refuse to help you.

I went to Halifax seed for just that, seeds. After being frustrated at finding the same several varieties of seeds locally and not wanting to have to pay shipping it was refreshing to see that there was a pretty great selection of vegetable seeds available. I didn't really shop the remainder of the store but my brief look showed a good selection of fertilizers, past control sprays and pots that all seemed reasonably priced at a glance. The option to buy some seeds in bulk was also a welcome option. I will say that I'm quite an dendrophile and i saw no options for tree seeds which was a shame. I quite enjoy growing both native and tropical trees and this doesn't seem to be the place to help in that quest. Certainly worth a look if you want more than just the same 1 or 2 varieties of seeds.

Was very disappointed in this company. Where most seed companies use paper packaging for their products, this company decided to use individual plastic bags which were then sent in a larger plastic bag. Need to do better.

Purchased grass seed (extreme green) from Halifax Seed. Shortly after I planted, tons of weeds started popping up. I gave some of rhe grass seed to a Family member who planted it and also had the exact same weeds that came up. Wouldn’t purchase again - basically buying weeds; very poor quality.

Nice selection of healthy perennials in Spring, large seed selection, central location if you're on the peninsula. Obviously pricey (as expected) compared to big box and garden centers. ...perennials I planted in late Spring far surpassed others. Worth the investment.
