no showed for a quote time they picked. had to get up early after a long trip to meet them. called the office after to say not to bother coming and a few minutes later got a less than professional voicemail from the owner. owners response mentions delays do happen, either way doesn't justify the amount of swearing in the voice mail i received... very unprofessional. i wasted my time waiting and got a voicemail of swearing

Worst part is they set up a time to come out meet you and then they don't even show.. if they don't show now will they show for any other issues after they get your money

They did a poor job on our driveway. They paved it the day before a snowstorm because they waited too long to come back and finish the job. Now my landlord, who paid for this sub-standard job, has been trying to get a hold of them to come back and fix it, but to no avail. No one calls them back, and even the secretary is almost never there to answer the call in the first place. —- Follow up... The company finally got in touch with me and my landlords after I posted this review to set up a time to repair the driveway. This is a small family business. I am hopeful that they will re-evaluate how they handle incoming calls and e-mails in the future.

I hired O'Brien to repave my building's parking lot. Friendly, courteous, professional--and very knowledgeable--staff from the office to the field. The quote was not the cheapest, but it was very competitive. I look for best value not best price. Additional, optional work was clearly explained and quoted ahead of time. They worked with me every step of the way while providing excellent advice and patiently answering all of my (many) questions. The work proceeded exactly, if not faster than they originally said it would. I knew what to expect at every step along the way. The quality of the work was excellent throughout. I'm happy. Tenants are happy. All of my capex projects should go so smoothly. I'd definitely recommend O'Brien.

Install was professional, a good thick layer of asphalt, the guys were fussy about how it went down, grading for water pooling and drainage. Just a great install and a great group of guys. Was supposed to have someone come by for an estimate yesterday (March 16th 2017) and no one came by for the scheduled appointment I received no phone call or email regarding the person not being able to make the appointment. Very disappointed in the fact that I did not receive advance notice that the person would not be making the appointment, and no effort to reschedule was made. Update: Appears there may have been a misunderstanding very nice phone call to follow up! Sorry I missed the call was in a meeting at work at the time! Will be changing the rating based on this :) can't give a 5 due to not currently getting work done by you, if you are the company we are going with I'll be sure to bump that up, but a quick follow up was appreciated!

O'Brien's did a cosmetically good looking job, but they didn't slope the driveway properly and I have puddles beside my house. And they covered up my main water shut off. And as they were burning the asphalt off of their rakes beside my house their fire got out of control and almost burnt my porch and house. When my wife came home after a neighbour informed us of what was going on, Gary was yelling at her as she asked questions. As a concerned customer would as it was also a PD day with our children in the house. So fortunately our neighbour saw this and informed us otherwise I am sure that the fire would not have been reported to us, exept that the bush beside our porch was burnt. I asked Gary to repair it and he came out and patched it and now it doesn't have the finished look. The puddle is still there. And they dug too large of a hole to find my water main and now it has a patched look also. I held payment for awhile so that I could ensure that they would complete their repairs. But Gary has a very short fuse when questioned about when they are repairing the problems. All he did was yell at me and threaten court action unless I paid the other half. Then he told me that if they don't hold up their 2 year warranty, then I could take him to court....umm that's not reassuring. Not sure how Gary is still in business with the way he talks to customers. So I have paid him and now in the waiting game. I am very sorry that I went with them. But I guess I have to wait and see how well this 2 year warranty works.

Can't rate them highly enough and will recommend them to anyone. Only drawback seems to be how busy they always are, but that is what happens when people are consistently happy with your work.

I requested a quote online, they followed up and set a date promptly. I took the day off, waited around... and nobody showed. I then emailed them back asking what happened... no response. A couple more attempts and no response led to me giving up. Can't comment on their work, because they never showed up to quote on the job and seemingly fell off the face of the earth after being very responsive initially.

Problems from beginning to end -- quote was wrong, they asked to correct it *after* the work was complete, left the driveway area a complete mess, less than 24 hours notice to do the work AFTER I followed up twice to find out when the work would be scheduled wrong amount on invoice -- less than helpful getting the amount corrected. Don't waste your time or energy with this company. The two other quotes we received were the same amount. This was the company our builder used so we went with their quote -- big mistake.

Need to book well in advance. We booked in May and the driveway was paved only in late October. But the quality seems to be quite good, no issues after the winter, and the price was very fair.

I sent an email request for a quote. After, scheduling and rescheduling, they did not show up for the appointment (at the time they picked). I did not receive a call or email to notify that they did not plan to come. I emailed them to indicate that they did not show up for the appointment and did not receive a response.

I honestly don't think you should get your driveway paved if you expect it done immediately. This company was quite clear about the process. I didn't expect to wait around for a quote so said they could come by anytime. I didn't have to be home. My presence during the quoting process doesn't help them in any way. They know their job better than I do. And they are busy! Once booked they advised that they were several weeks out just in removing the old driveway. Then it has to sit for a bit. Also I'm assuming they book jobs in the same area at once. It makes good business sense. Then you wait and they call and say we will be there in 3 days. None of this was a surprise to me they explained it up front. People only hear what they want to hear. The crew worked very well together. We were very impressed with them. They were quick, professional and didn't leave a mess. And for those complaining about no call back, I only had 2 call backs out of 6. It's the industry. They book fast. So call in the fall if you want it done next summer. This isn't getting your nails done. It's a big job and there isn't a paving company on every street corner. Set your expectations accordingly.

In the process in trying to contact them regarding some issues with new driveway. Have called and talked to receptionist two weeks ago who said someone would call me to set up a time to get these concerns looked at. No phone call. Have contacted them through their website the other day as well. Have tried calling them no one answers phone the last two days? Not just me, my father in law is trying to get a hold of them as well to discuss something he needs looked at as well with his new driveway. We had three driveway's done with this company last year I am hoping they will take care of us in getting these concerns addressed. Will update this review. O'Brien paving please get in contact with us.

I just fired these people. We got a quote from them LAST year, booked the driveway, called and called so many times we lost count. Then we wrote many emails and NO ONE ever called us back or would even respond to the email. They FINALLY call back at the end of October when, as informed by another company, you don't do driveways unless you want a warranty issue to TELL US they're coming THE NEXT MORNING. That call came at dinner time so only 12 hours notice. We had asked for 2 weeks notice before they showed up so we could get things organized and purchase street parking permits as we are in a 2 hour parking zone and got the exact same excuses - "Oh, the guys didn't tell me they had a parking lot booked". This has been their excuse EVERY SINGLE TIME. So when we reminded her of our agreement to get two weeks notice so we can make other arrangements and rip up the concrete stairs, she says, "You will be the FIRST on our list in the spring." Well, my husband called AGAIN more than once and FINALLY gets a time frame - the week of May 7th so we empty the driveway and sit and wait all week and they don't show. They are constantly not showing. So I just called someone else who can GUARANTEE our booking. It would seem to me that if O'Brien Paving is so good, they'd have more than 28 reviews. I am SO GLAD we didn't cut them a deposit cheque. I ABSOLUTELY do not recommend this business. We will remember this for sure. Judging by the other reviewers, it's just as bad getting them to come back for warranty repairs as it is just trying to get them to show up when they SAY they'll show up. After taking the time to read all the reviews, even the good ones, I'm sure I'll receive a response from the company to this review telling me about how delays happen, they're human, they're top quality, they're a small family run business, people get sick, we try to call everyone to reschedule but are very busy and there'll probably be some excuses about babies being born and funerals too or they'll just flat-out attack me in their response. Update: 1 hour later after posting this review: They didn't disappoint in their response. It was childish and gives a look into how they treat people who decide to stop putting up with constant no-shows, unanswered phone calls and emails. It seems that in this day and age, the ONLY way to get people to do the right thing is to review them on Google because calling them no longer works. As for YOU, O'Brien Paving Inc., your attack on someone AFTER they fired you shows me and other people what kind of poor business practices you have as well as the immature way you deal with people who decide that if you can't call to reschedule a job for MONTHS, you must not want the business so take their business elsewhere to people who DO want the business. My review stands. It also stands for the other companies. They are lucky I didn't elaborate further as I have with you and your response tells me you're upset with being fired. Well, get used to it. Customers now have a way to make sure people know about their experiences. Our mistake in choosing you was we didn't Google your company first and look for the reviews. Your replies, as utterly childish as they are, show potential customers that you have zero professionalism. That you said this, "Sorry we couldn't give you the best quality job available. I would guess our very high quality workmanship is in the end what has caused your discontent with us." Well, you didn't bother to show up for a full year so your comment shows you can't even word a reply to your benefit. You had better get used to people giving reviews. I am amazed why you just don't accept responsibility for WHY you got fired in the first place.

Excellent job from these guys! I had my driveway paved 7 years ago and it is still in great shape! My last driveway was only 7 years old when I had to replace it. When O'Brien removed it they showed me how thin it was and advised me that I did not need to pay to replace the base because the only problem was that the asphalt was too thin. That saved me $500 and I can now say for sure they were right! Gary in a very honest guy. Don't hesitate to call these guys!

Overall I was happy with quote and the work but I have been contacting them every month for 1 year exactly, for them to come back and do a repair that Gary O'Brian guaranteed would be done. Their work is suppose to be guaranteed for 24 months but if they do not stand behind their guarantee I have to give them a fail!

Gary came to our house to do the measuring. He told us he was going to contact us with details... never ever heard back from them despite us reaching out to them multiple times. Nada. I have been forced to use to write this as your phone is constantly busy with no answering service. While driving down Bridgeport Rd - your driver deliberately pulled out in front of me from the off ramp. He pulled into the far lane forcing me to slam my brakes on and switch lanes Not sure why as I was the only car. With your guys driving the heavy dump trucks on public roads - they should be more cautious. He then sped up to over 70km as he saw i was taking a pic of his truck - Posted speed limit is 50!!!! Safety must not be your strong suite with drivers like this!

I am so disappointed. I had an appointment for an estimate at 11:00AM today so at 11:23AM when no one showed up I called, only to be told casually that the person was not feeling well. Whereas I understand that one has no control over issues like these I would think that out of common courtesy I would be called and advised that the appointment should be rescheduled. It is annoying to know that my time is of no value considering that I postponed an appointment to facilitate this one. Very poor customer service.

Late to show up to do the quote. Project timeline quoted was to be 1 week but took 3-4 weeks as they would leave to complete other jobs. Then Mr Gary O'Brien will not call back his customers to complete warrantee work. I've called several times as well as emailed with no response. Don't waste your time with this company as they will not fulfill their 2 year work or stand behind it. I have huge cracks in my 6' slab as well as several other cracks that happened.

Our neighbor and I had our driveway repaved (Shared driveway). We both are not happy with the quality of work, or with the communication with the company. Looks like they used low grade asphalt, we will be lucky if it last 2-3 years without any problems. My neighbor and I had concerns regarding the quote with the area that was being paved, we thought their measurements were off (bigger than what it actually was), given what my land survey states and other quotes we got from other companies. They gave my neighbor a price reduction, but not us. We were told Gary would come speak with us in the early evening, but shows up at 12:30 pm when we were at work, spoke to my neighbor, who knows very little about the asphalt/paving process. They were told, nope, the driveway is fine. It is not fine, pits everywhere, they didn't even properly level the area where my back door and stairs are, stairs are now on an angle, which they were not with the old driveway. Trying to get a reply from them is a lengthy process, still waiting for them to get back to me. They say oh, we are extremely busy , bla bla bla, well I work in the heavy equipment mining business, and we are crazy busy, but I can tell you it does not take that long to reply to customers, it is ridiculous. Gary said when the driveway is done, it will bring a tear to my eye, it will be nice. It did bring a tear to my eye, not because I was happy , but very disappointed in the process and quality, nothing like paying for a job that you are not happy with at all. Like others have stated in reviews, the communication is terrible, they just show up to start work with no notice, when both my neighbor and I said something to the crew, we got nothing but attitude. We thought going with a company that has been in business as long as O'Brian would be a good thing, we were wrong. I was speaking with someone in my area that had their driveway done recently by Tri City Paving, we had also got a quote from them, wish we would of went with them instead, as the quality of work done to this persons driveway was far superior, smooth, not pits/rocks showing, obviously a much better quality of asphalt and work and the person said they were very easy to deal with and the communication was great. So bottom line for us is, we got stuck paying for something we are not happy with and will most likely have to redo it within the next couple years. That being said, we would recommend going with another company rather than this one. UPDATE......We never did hear back from them. Our driveway is just terrible. After every rainfall or snow melts, my wife and I have to go shovel the massive lake in the middle if the driveway out to the road. We actually miss the old messed up driveway. It may not of been as smooth, but at least we didn t have lake/ice rink in the middle of it. Terrible work, terrible service!

Awesome work. Call 3 places beginning of April was the only business that replied. Being a contractor myself I did all the prep work. On time, professional work. Even did thing like counter sinking my water valve box, for winter freeze and thaw you won't catch your snow blower or plow on it. Would highly recommend. Thanks Graham, Gary and crew.
