This Gardener corresponds to the category of Garden center.
This place has everything and anything you could ever want to landscape your home, plant a garden, or have cool plants for your house. There is also a cafe inside that serves some pretty delicious food, and amazing gelato. There is also stuff for around the house, and neat little knick knacks as well. They sell a little bit of everything; including a vast selection of crocs. Highly recommend checking out this place at least once!
Beautiful garden center with lots of indoor and outdoor plant selection. Friendly and helpful staff.
Quick, friendly, had whatever we needed
As usual beautiful plants, gift shop and clothing. Looking forward to going when it's decorated for the holidays.
Made the long drive to arrive at this lawn and garden destination store only to find that their sod is of terrible quality, and nearly twice the price of competitors. In the photo you can see that the sod is virtually dead. It's dusty, gray, and yellow next to my lawn. Everything about this represents my wasted time and money.
Spent 1 he today checking out their HUGE supply of tropical plants. They had every variety i had seen on videos and was able to get an idea in person how they would actually look and feel. Good prices too. Shelmerdine's also has wonderful gift ideas in their very big gift shop. Grab a mask and check them out.
The website is not able to handle the known traffic for their events and crashes. When contacting them to register us over the phone they refuse and tell us to keep trying the site. This is poor customer service. If your site can not handle the traffic do not make the event registration only online.
They’re amazing, the store is always well kept and they were able to adapt well during the current covid climate. Placed a curb side pickup order and picked it up with zero issues. The plant is perfect and is something I would have chose myself, some people think curb side is a way for businesses to get rid of their less than desirable product. That was not the case with this Shelmerdine experience!
Great selection of plants. Home/garden items you don't see anywhere else. Great little cafe. Knowledgeable staff.
So much to look at! I went for an indoor plant and there was a huge variety to choose from. Also so many pots and decorations to do your own arranging.
Increadably lovely experience to shop here. I found almost everything I needed, the thing they were missing may not even be something they carry. Staff were very kind and friendly but I would have appreciated just a bit more help finding the things I couldn't. Over all, a very pleasant experience.
Carnival was small and crowded but kids had a good time. Best suited for kids around 6 and under. Our 8 year old was a little bored.
I really like this garden store because it has a fair amount of variety and very pleasant arrangements inside. The plants, trees and ornaments seem to be high quality and decent prices. Nice place to go for a walk at the least, and they have a little coffee shop here. Staff is good.
I love here to enjoy spring earlier.????
A wonderful experience just over the phone! Old school customer service at it's best. Staff member, Nicki was super knowledgeable and extremely patient with all of my multiple questions. I didn't buy anything but enquired about how to group together some of my house plants and she was more than happy to help me figure it out. I left the conversation feeling satisfied with her answers and felt appreciated even though i hadn't made a purchase. However, now that i have had such a good experience, I will drive the extra 25 minutes to go there, instead of "other" greenhouses that cant be bothered to say "Thank you for your business, please come again!"
Great gardening center. Have a great selection!
Without a doubt the best garden centre in Manitoba. Shelmerdine has a huge selection of high quality merchandise with incredibly attentive and knowledgeable staff
Very solid selection of early season plants and great tropical trees. Plant accessories are a bit on the expensive side, but definitely worth the trip for the plants.
Great place to go for unique gifts! Excellent seasonal ideas, along with exceptional quality plants and trees. Staff very knowledgeable.
Such a beautiful shop and beautiful lay out! Easy to find everything!! So organized!! Thanks for your huge variety of plants! What a treat this place is to view! Awesome customer service as always!
Shelmerdine is an amazing greenhouse just outside of Winnipeg in Headingley. The greenhouse is always well-stocked with a wide variety of tropical and exotic plants, beautiful flowers, vegetable plants and herbs (in the summer), shrubs and trees, and succulents. It is a large space that also has an attached boutique with upscale, designer clothing, accessories and jewelry, along with a small cafe in the greenhouse area. They also have plenty of garden accessories, furniture, fountains, pots, and plant seeds. The plants always look well cared for. The prices at Shelmerdine are usually higher than other greenhouses, but it is worth it for the quality of plants they have. The Secret Garden Cafe is a pleasant and beautiful space within the greenhouse with a small menu featuring a salad, sandwiches, soup, and a rice bowl along with cafe drinks and fresh gelato. I have tried their Mexi Fresco bowl which was delicious. The cafe seating area is surrounded by lush tropical plants. I always love shopping at Shelmerdine and have found some beautiful houseplants there, which I continue to enjoy years later. Shelmerdine is a beautiful and well-run greenhouse with friendly and knowledgeable staff. I would recommend visiting at any time of the year!
Lot's of neat stuff, great plants, cool furniture. Prices are a bit much, but the experience is worth a look
Love this place, great atmosphere and plants. Helpful staff as well.
love this place... you can walk around for hours and still not see everything. They have it all, from gardening supplies to fashion and home decor. Great for that unique gift, However it can be pretty pricey for most things in the giftware/ pottery sections. They have a lil Cafe and in the summer they quite often have a hotdog cart. The plants are reasonably priced and come with a good warranty. Some of the staff can be quite friendly and very helpful
Nice place to shop . Still no much stock. A few good sales on pots. Excellent stFf and service.
The only negative thing about Shelmerdines is they have no electric carts for handicapped customers and the one wheelchair they have is a child's width.
For the father's and husband's, they have Superior wifi.
Friendly and helpful. Was there with my elderly mom. Picked out three lovely, healthy flowering beauties.
Such a cute store. The gift shop has so many treasures and the plants in the store are super healthy and they keep a wide variety in stock. I will continue to shop here.
While they have a great selection, be prepared to spend dollars if shopping here. It is as much a boutique as a plant place, and of course we have to pay for that luxury.
I had a great experience until I went to the till. The till kept resetting itself and the cashier's just kept putting everything in again and again. I finally had enough when she started ripping through my already bagged plants to find one plant she missed. The managers should have been around to help and apologize to customers. In the parking lot another customer said how they would never return also. Give your cashier's the authority to give a tiny discount or something to make up for standing there wasting 20 minutes of my time. I even tried to call and talk to a manager about my experience but they wouldn't answer the phone. This was one of my worst experiences in a store of any kind. I will never return
Hours are a bit restrictive making it harder to access when they are open... other green houses have far later hours during the week... other than that... place is great, plenty of selection, people are always friendly
Holy!!!!! This place has EVERYTHING you could need or want for your yard. We recently had returned a tree that had died. They honoured their return policy and we recieved a new tree! Now that's customer satisfaction!! Looking forward to next season to visit and get more plants!
Love going there. bit of a drive, but fun to go especially at Christmas time. lots of good smells from the xmas trees! Always a good time! Worth going in any season. Just a neat store!
Full on Christmas at Shelmerdine already! Some gorgeous items as per usual!
Great experience at this store and they have nice Cafe with food inside the store.
Lots of lovely things to find here. Great place to find gifts. The plant prices can be a little pricey sometimes but we'll worth it for the quality. They have a great selection! I love exploring here. Their clothing section is also worth a look !
Big flashy greenhouse. Bells and whistles everywhere! They even do big annual "parties" with all the extra income they have. They have high prices, plants that don't look any better than any other greenhouse, and staff that seem... uninterested in the fact you're there. I enjoy the "parties" and they have a place in our community. So let's keep them in business, buy a few over priced items, and grow our community.
Great place for seasonal items especially Christmas.
Friendly staff with good selection!
Highly recommend, the best place in Manitoba . the have everything , and very friendly. from potted flowers to Landscaping and even Lady clothing. Not just a garden center . I will visit every time i'm in Winnipeg.
Great selection, very big location you can easily get lost perusing their lovely, spacious sections. They have everything here - seeds, catalogs, trees, shrubs, annuals and perennials. Garden decor, loads of containers and pots, even clothes and jewelry. Some things seem a little pricey, but this is a great must-visit stop by the Crampton’s farmer’s market bakery and cafe, and T&T seeds, another great greenhouse a couple hundred meters away.
Great quality plants and very reasonably priced.
Went for their children's Halloween charity thing. Although it seems to advertised that little children can go, the only things available to the littles ones are a toddler corn maze and mini train to ride in. However, no one was supervising the corn maze and much older children were running around and destroying it, as well as running into the toddlers at full speed making it incredibly unsafe. I wont be going back until my kid is at least 4. Other than this, the place is very nice with unique items in the shop, albeit very pricey.
Very cute garden lady was super nice when the website was confusing all in all very happy with the service.
Not busy so service was great. Nice center.
Today's trip not so good. We had called ahead of time to determine if they had 2 specific shrubs and were assured they did, although they only had one left of one of the items. This place is out of the way so it was a special trip to get there. Upon arrival I had a hard time finding anyone to help (lots around but they were indifferent it seemed) but eventually received assistance from someone knowledgeable. The item that was down to one left was unfortunately almost dead and I was advised not to buy it. They didn't have the second item at all, only other varieties that were too big for what I needed. So this was a wasted trip. I kept my score reasonable since I've had good service in the past, but may not come again unless there's something unique I need.
Went in looking for mosquito barrier, a garlic based natural repellent, it was in stock and got a sprayer for application! Staff was friendly and helpful!
AWESOME experience buying our Christmas trees today!! Had an icredible employee, David, do everything possible to make sure our tree fit in the vehicle and secure for the drive home! Thanks for making our holidays great!!
A plant lovers paradise. Really great selection.
Great garden centre with something for everyone. Competitive prices, friendly, helpful staff.
I have a big family... some of our family went out of town, went out to shelmerdines, and with new COVID restrictions we can’t go in together... but one employee understood that kids shouldn’t be left alone in a car in 30 degrees. We went to another entrance and the other employee wouldn’t let us in. We went to go in the hot car and then we saw a teen kid with an older woman... I’m assuming they were in the same household because they were in the same car. When we confronted them about it, they tried to get us to believe some pathetic excuse that “we don’t have a policy”. They eat least need some consistency. It’s completely unacceptable.
I orginally really liked this greenhouse but the last few years the variety has been extremely limited for tropicals (you can find the same plants from the same supplier for half the price at Rona). The staff knowledge has deteriorated and facebook, instagram messages are ignored. When I call I am told to try calling back to ask questions about special orders repeatedly. I’ve just stopped going.
Beautiful place. Lots of options. Just so pleasant to walk around. Great prices and a cozy sandwich shop inside. Clean and well stocked.
Shelmerdine's has the best santa around. We've been coming here for santa pictures for the past few years and it's always been an amazing experience. When we're done taking santa pictures, we always grab a gelato at the cafe. Also, they unexpectedly have an unusually wide variety of hot sauces available. Enough to recreate your own version of "Hot One's" at home.
This place is amazing ! So much to choose from I was moving out of the country so I couldn’t buy any of the plants but WOW is all I kept saying ! So awesome! Wish I would have known about this place sooner !!!!!
We went at Christmas time and it was truly transformed into a magical winter wonderland. Live entertainment (in the mid afternoon), a Cafe and Ice cream shop, stunning Christmas displays and a fantastic Santa (real beard) and Mrs Claus! Unfortunately you don't get a hard copy of the Santa photo, but you do get the digital and you pay extra for that in other places. We'll visit there every Christmas for sure!
I do all my plant shopping here. I even went for a date on Valentines Day I love it here so much. The staff are amazeballs and super friendly. Many of plant babies are from here.
They were a bit pricy on some of their product and their select was not good yet.
Decent selection & variety, helpful staff, nicely organized and maintained.
Debbie in the cafe was so friendly! Lyle in the tree and shrubs section was very helpful. Looking forward to planting our sugar maple in the next week or so based on his recommendation.
Love to come to this place and get plants. Staff is always pleasant and very helpful. Highly recommended.
Full service quality Garden Centre. Very knowledgeable staff and reasonable prices. Loved this place as variety and selection is spectacular. They carry everything from indoor and outdoor plants, gift and home decor' and ladies fashion. Every season offers a great new selection of product including holiday. It's worth the drive!!!
Gorgeous store! My daughter (7) had a blast at the kid zone. Was well worth the trip out.
Best greenhouse in Winnipeg! My boyfriend and I went for the first time and we LOVED it. Store layout is easy and pleasing to follow and you get a good view of everything at once. Enormous amount of plants! Compare to one of the greenhouse in st.mary it was boxed up with rooms and difficult to follow. Also found my dream plant there! Excited to visit again soon.
A great place to spend some time beautiful selection of plants, trees and shrubs but also everything else you need for your garden plus a coffee shop and a fantastic gift store.
One of the best garden centers in Winnipeg (technically NEAR Winnipeg) prices are somewhat high, but very well worth all the knowledge and experience the staff at Shelmerdene bring every year! +The Cafe is awesome.
Excellent garden center with a large variety of flowers, shrubs, and trees
Meh, overpriced and not much for flowers. Had lots of other things though. Staff seemed friendly.
Shelmerdines has a great atmosphere and wonderful home/plant products. I appreciate the level of help and support they offer for the plants that they sell and they really stand behind the quality of their plants with their return policy. I've bought a number of plants from them (most of which are even still alive) and have always had a positive experience at the store. The only reason I don't give it a 5/5 is that some of their products are quite overpriced (for example an unmade wreath ring was around $20, you can get the same product for $4 from craft shops) and in general it is definitely on the expensive side.
Always love a visit here during the holiday season. Beautiful and festive. Lots of wonderful things in the shop!
*BEWARE*. IF YOU HAVE RECENTLY BOUGHT A HIBISCUS PLANT FROM THE SHELMERDINE GARDEN CENTRE, PLEASE KEEP AN EYE OUT FOR SPIDER MITES ON THEM. I recently bought myself a Hibiscus Plant from the Shelmerdine Garden Centre and just a couple of days after my initial purchase, I had discovered Spider Mites all over the leaves of the plant. Immediately after I discovered the Spider Mites, I drove to Shelmerdine’s to return the plant, with the intention to get my money back. However, I was instead told that a refund couldn’t be given to me as I threw out my receipt and that I was supposed to keep it in order for me to get a refund. Instead, store credit was hesitantly given to me in the form of a gift card, which is useless to me as I won’t be shopping here anymore. I explained to the employee that I was genuinely concerned about them selling Hibiscus Plants with Spider Mites on them, as the bugs tend to spread to other Hibiscus Plants that are located beside the infected plant, which therefore infects other plants. However, the employee was quick to dismiss my concern and explained that the bugs don’t spread to other Hibiscus Plants and that it must have only been my plant that had the bugs on them and not any others, which just isn’t true. The employee took my plant and said that it would get sprayed to try and save it. (It is highly possible for the plant to be returned into stock, for another customer to purchase after it being sprayed). I believe that the plant should’ve been thrown away. KEEP YOUR RECEIPTS AFTER PURCHASING PLANTS, ESPECIALLY AT SHELMERDINE’S GARDEN CENTRE.
Very nice garden centre, but the stuff is quite expensive. Ample parking and friendly staff.
Curbside pickup is fast and efficient. Online orders filled on time and within two days of order. Plants are great quality! I miss being able to go in and see all the STUFF but hopefully soon. Love this place! The greenhouse is so relaxing ❤️
Shelmerdine's has grown substantially over the years from being a gardening retail store to a destination worth visiting for fun with the family. The gardening section is large and often well laid out to help inspire an amateur gardener. There's quite of a bit of lifestyle retail for decor items, knick-knacks, clothes, jewelry's and a whole section just for people who are a fan of wearing crocs. The cafe has an expanded seating area with options for coffee/tea, lunch, and gelato. Overall, it's the kind of place I would take the family just for a relaxing Sunday afternoon walk to explore and dream about what our backyard might look like (if we had one).
Nice products in store. Only that their prices are quite expensive compared to most plant shops in Winnipeg.
I went there on saturday and it was a bit busy but overall the service was excellent
Large and local garden center, variety of house plants, vegetable seeds/plants, herbs, annuals, perennials, shrubs and trees. Small cafe indoors, farmers market outdoors a couple of weekends in August. Clothing available for women and smaller section for men. Many styles and sizes to choose from. Features offered in email subscription newsletter. Fountains, pots, garden furniture available. Classes offered throughout the season.
Definitely a place that is worth the drive and plan to spend some time here too. Very unique garden center but they also have a cafe with some good eats and gelati. They sell clothes, home decor, kid stuff, kitchen gadgets, wide variety of croc shoes and sandals. Staff is very knowledgeable and helpful. I always am happy being here.
We made our first visit to the Shelmerdine Christmas market. It was goegeous. A real treat for the eyes and the camera lense.
Shopping for plants/supplies here is a therapy session. The cafe inside is a nice companion to your experience also, ice cream flavours are unique and delicious.
Friendly, helpful staff, and a plant, pot or piece of decor for everyone. My new favourite place!
I did curbside pickup twice and everything was super easy. I talked to Laurie about an order and she was SUPER helpful and beyond friendly about everything. After my pickups I went back a third time to actually go into the store and checkout selection since I received a gift card as a gift (because apparently I hadn’t stopped talking about Shelmerdine and all the plants I wanted for weeks haha). During this visit one of the staff members (we think we know her name but are not 100% certain so I don’t want to mention it just incase it’s the wrong one) was so rude when we asked a simple question about an order we had on hold!! I’ve worked in the service industry for 12 years now and I know it’s not always fun to deal with people but we are friendly and nice and I have NEVER had an employee anywhere roll their eyes at me so many times in a single conversation or give me such attitude!! I was shocked I’m not sure what we did to deserve that but it was not fun and ruined my exciting trip to shelmerdine.
So lovely! They have everything you can think of, especially during Christmas. Clothes food and wonderful staff. Looking forward checking out the spring selection!
One of my favourite places to be. Terrific and very helpful staff, great parking and easy to get to all departments. Well worth a visit any time of the year.
First time here, we were looking for chok eberry shrubs. They had various varieties, and the staff was very knowledgeable and helpful. So many nice things to look at, I Will definitely be back!
Massive selection of houseplants right now. First time I've been here for something other than perennials. ❤️
They always have an abundance of plants to choose from and friendly staff ???? the cafe inside is also very good
Wide selection of plants and everything else in between. A gardener's paradise!
I was at Shelmerdine November 29 to get a tree. Got the perfect tree and a nice young man brought it to my SUV. I thought I would secure it on top but was having a lot of trouble when a different young guy came out and offered to move it from the top to the back of my SUV where he was sure it would fit. He was right. I had already paid and was out in the lot struggling and he came out just to help. I wish I had watched for his name because he deserves to be recognized for his excellent customer service. So refreshing.
a great place to go and browse; huge selection of beautiful greenery and lovely gifts.
No return phone calls. Keep phoning and no one responds to planing problems they were responsible for.
It was fabulous. Went with clients from work. They loved it. The Christmas decoration were awesome. The pointsettas are beautiful and so many colors. I highly recommend everyone to get out there and have a look around.
Loved the selection of hot peppers that were available today. And they were very well set up to follow the distancing requirements due to Covid-19. I would recommend this place to anyone!
Will not go back. The plants are very healthy looking, with a good variety and the flowers are beautiful. Trying to pay is an absolute joke. They had a lady marking a paper while you were in line (supposedly to make it easier at the till) but she had no clue what she was doing and marked things completely wrong. Tried telling that to the person at the till, but of course we get our bill and were double charged for things. While there, three people came back to have their bills corrected (of course all to the same lady's till...) Instead of copping an attitute with people looking to get their money back, maybe you should realize if you were actually listening and double checking what you were doing in the first place, you wouldn't have to refund so many people. It really is a shame because the plants are nice, but there are so many other choices for greenhouses where you don't have so many issues.
Its a wonderful store and I changes every time I go there. Its nice to see everyone was wearing masks. Thanks
Extremely overpriced for what it is. Had we not been given a gift card, we would never shop here. Prices aside it is a nice store and the staff are friendly and helpful. Just be prepared to open your wallet.
Love this place! I recently did curb side pickup and Mitch who delivered it to my car was so great! So friendly and nice...and funny! Definitely brightened up my day!
Great experience beautiful place to visit, a lot of well priced plants but loses a star for having so much overpriced stuff there as well.
Love this place! The Christmas displays are beautiful, lots of unique ornaments and gift ideas.
I love this garden center. While the prices are a bit higher than in other places, the quality of plants is exceptional. I strolled through the center with my daughter. It wasn't easy to resist buying much more plants than needed. Thank you Shelmetdine.
Usually my last go to garden center as prices are usually a tad higher. But found the layout/covid restrictions minimally met. No enforcement of arrows, and a ton of people!
Lots of selection and always fun to look around.
Very pretty merchandise, plants and clothing. But the prices can make you cringe.
Very beautiful place. The four stars are because it is extraordinary expensive!
Great green house. good selection and they are willing to call you when specific inventory arrives.
Beautiful assortment of plants and veggies all very healthy looking! I bought a bunch of veggies today and I’m so excited to plant them! Prices were reasonable too! I’ve always heard great things and my expectations were more than met! Can’t wait to come back!
Spacious place, from plants to great gift ideas. If you want to find something special to wear this is the place to shop. Friendly staff. Just wish they were opened longer especially on Saturdays. Definitely worth the trip!
Beautiful items; beautifully/aesthetically laid out. GOOD LUCK getting someone to phone you back... 3 calls in 7 days. Still waiting.
It's a calming respite with a bonus of having fabulous shopping
Great selection, good prices, and excellent customer service. Plus, if you purchase Mike's you get 5 year warranty on plants.
I was excited for my visit to Shelmerdine's earlier this however, much to my dismay, the selection of annuals was very disappointing in that there were very few of the popular plants (petunias, impatients) available; and what was available were very spindley and just didn't look good. Also, no 6-pack of annuals left, and the 4" pots of 1 petunia were way overpriced. $5/plant.. not happening. No vegetable plants available. The pre-made basket selection was disappointing as well, especially for the price. I struggled to use my gift and, so I ended up buying grass seed. Sad to say, this will be my last visit to Shelmerdine.
Great selection of plants, pots & gifts. Staff is very helpful!
Lots of plants, shrubs and trees great selection to choose from.
Was quite impressed with the size of the place. Its quite large with a massive selection of gardening supplies and decor. Did not expect to find a clothing boutique. Looks quite upscale. Very nice clothing and accessories. They also have food. Ice cream, drinks, sandwiches and the like. Was there in the off season so I didn't see any plants for the garden, but the selection of house plants is second to none. Will definitely be back again.
Update on last review. Went perusing and checked out the air plant section again. Saw that they still had some enhanced ones and despite my last comment which they replied to and said they would put signage up, there is still no signage noting that some are enhanced with plant spray paint. I didn't expect them to actually do anything though, so it wasn't surprising. I did see some xerographicas though which really excited me and would have bought one, had I not picked it up and turned it upside down to inspect the base of the leaves. A bunch of water poured out and the bottoms were turning brown and rotting! Checked all of them and each one had full pools of water caught in their leaves with browning/rotting leaves. Whoever was in charge of watering them has been rotting them which is pretty unfortunate because xeros aren't cheap and I would have bought one had I not discovered that. So that was pretty disappointing.. That and I finally found an Aralia Ming (there was only one, but yay right?!!!) which was super expensive imo, something like $180, so I didn't get it.. That one'll be bought from somewhere else for cheaper and online. I did get some other plants there like a small cute wandering jew and pilea fern, and they did get some prayer plants in when they said they would, so this becomes a 2 star still instead of bumping back down to 1. Even though I found out yesterday that Home Depot has 10-12" hanging pots FULL of footlong wandering jews for $17 bucks as opposed to the little 2" pot with 2 stems for $5 (I think it was $5?), I'm still somewhat content with the small purple plant at least since it's growing well but I would have just went to HD had I known they had those for a much better price. Just something to keep in mind since even though we may like the idea of supporting small local businesses, not all of us can afford that luxury.
Fancy Garden center near Headingley. Lots of plants and plant accessories such as soil and Pots and things for indoor and outdoor gardens. Good spot to pick up a new plants. Friendly staff.
I had NOOOO idea how awesome this place is ❤ Today was all about visiting their Kid's fun area, but I will be back to check out the huge store and do some serious shopping. From what I could see just walking by the store is full of unique decor items and beautiful clothing. The day was well spent in the kid's area. Our kids are 4 and 2 and were both able to to go on most of the rides. Yay! Mom and dad can join their little ones on just a few of the rides. Very well set up, clean and a lot of light. Only thing I noticed was that the ceiling was leaking water in some places ????????♀️ Prices for rides are reasonable. We paid $25 for 10 tokens, one ride is one token, so comes out to $2.50 per ride. I have only one suggestion for improvement: the washrooms need to be renovated, if possible expanded. I thought they just looked very outdated and just not what I expected in such a beautiful place.
Durning these uncertain times(Covid-19), I would like to thank the staff & owners, for their consistent vigilance to their customers saftey, and for following all the Gov't Guidelines. I felt very safe and confident while shopping at Shelmerdine Garden Center!
Bought 2 poinsettias and they are both very nice but I wanted pots to put them in and I struck out. If I wanted to spend over 70.00 a pot I was in luck.
This 2 star is solely for finding out that the air plant I bought from here had been "enhanced" or sprayed red to look like it's natural blush phase. What a lie. Their air plant selection is also small and rather sad/thirsty looking but this one looked much better than the others in the air plant section so I snagged it off one of their hanging decorations in the store. I feel thoroughly fooled. I won't be exchanging it because all the others looked in rather poor condition for a full price (they should be on sale is what their condition says.) Their other plants are nice which is why they aren't getting a 1 star. Some seem rather pricey, but I won't be going here for anymore air plants at least. I also received no information regarding the types of air plants they have (only brachycaulous apparently, Spanish moss, and 2 others.) Edit after response: Thanks! I appreciate the offer but unfortunately I won't be bringing it in for an exchange because it was the only one there that didn't look bad. Had there been a second one that looked good then I would have certainly bought 2. I'll keep an eye out for that signage though and for better stock in the future.
Gorgeous plants, a fun children’s play area, very helpful staff and a well-stocked boutique. I could have spent ages shopping here and will certainly be back!
We went to pickup flowers and a plant. Came home with flowers a plant and a dress and a purse! In fact, we spent 3 1/2 hours there and totally enjoyed the time there. Beautiful hanging pots of flowers, better than most other garden centres. Suggestion...if spending a lot of time there, bring your own lunch, as the sandwiches served there are not up to par. Buns were a day or two old, along with the smallest amount of meat which could barely be tasted as the buns were sooo thick. Service friendly and prompt, and lineups were manageable.
Hypocritical regarding rare plants. Posts about stop looking for rare plants and they're not even considered "REAL" house plants. Then a day after posts about "rare" begonia's and "rare" mini monstera's. It just doesn't add up to what you really believe in.
A little bit pricey but they know their plants. The atmosphere is beautiful.
If you need a dose of Christmas Spirit @ the Holidays this is a great place to start!
I have been coming here since I was a kid and some of the best Christmas memories are of making and painting ornaments.. Basically, it wasn't Christmas until we went to Shelmerdine's! I now get to share that tradition with new family, even if it's just to make sure we stop in to buy an ornament!
I purchased a Christmas Tree on Nov 26th, Friday afternoon and the experience was amazing. There were a lot of staff, and each one I encountered were SINCERE in wanting to assist me and their knowledge of products was refreshing. I was helped by a young man who, to my surprise, wrapped my tree, carried it out to my vehicle, then secured it to my roof rack and was extremely pleasant during the entire process...WOW. I will definitely be recommending Shelmerdine Garden Centre to everyone that is looking for landscaping, trees, potted plants, decorations, etc. Great job!
Friendly staff, impeccably clean, love a good sale (15% off everything when we went). Cafe coffee was good. Lovely atmosphere and not to hot. My only complaint, there was to much to see! Happy Easter Shelmerdines!
First time visited this place and I love it. Definitely going back next spring to buy plants.
This is my happy place! I just love going here becuase of all the greeneries you can see. It's just.nice to be around so many plants.
Awful employee. We were confronted by an emotionally charged employee, who was very rude and aggressive in the way she approached us. Her reason? The mask was not good enough. Makes you wonder how they run this place and train their employees. If it’s something so important to this employee and she had the guts to approach us in the way she did, I would have been at least more knowledgeable. You know what they say “the more ignorant, the braver”. One suggestion... Perhaps train your employees in a way that’s not going to hurt your business? Here is one, start by teaching them what different type of masks are allowed and maybe what logical thinking looks like. We definitely did not see any of that. I heard multiple people talk about your business and how insensible your employees are. Maybe it’s time to make some effort in changing your business culture. Give it a second thought before you visit this place. If you too experience the same irrationalism maybe it’s time to choose other garden centres????
Shelmardine is a favorite wishing, dreaming place for so many. I have a group of friends (12 of us ladies who love flowers and plants) and we meet there as a group at least three times q year. We browse throughout the many areas and stop for a snack or coffee at the eatery which is located near the centre of the building. Then we all head off in little groups to select our purchases. Most of us end up shopping in the fashion shop as well. We leave with our vehicles a bit heavier than when we arrived. A dozen happy gardeners - planning to meet at Shelmardines again soon.
I was shocked at the lack of professionalism when asking about their new rule (during the pandemic) about not allowing children under 16 in the store. I asked the question on social media, and, when told that children under 16 were permitted in shopping carts - even though they did not change their official rule either on social media or on signage at the store - I explained why they should then change the rule. My (polite and reasonable) comments were then deleted from their feed completely, with no explanation, comment, or personal message. It is this behaviour that has ultimately led to my loss of respect towards management there. I am disappointed- I very much enjoyed bringing my children there in the winter to see (and purchase) greenery. After this experience I will be bringing them elsewhere.
Great plants ...staffs are welcoming and friendly
Good crowd control. Staff was very helpful. Got my shrubs quickly and enjoyed the Garden Center.
Awesome plants and garden center supplies. Really great management during COVID-19.
Shelmerdine is bright and open and has so many options for both indoor and outdoor plants that I didn't know where to begin. We were looking for an indoor plant, and needed some advice as we are new to gardening, and the staff was knowledgable and had lots of tips and suggestions for us. The boutique was lovely with tons of quality gift items, and the selection of planters was so great that i was overwhelmed with options.
Simple deli style lunch of sandwiches. The service was good, the food was good and the setting was nice - seats surrounded be their vast array of plants for sale.
Would not recommend. Prices are very high compared to other garden nurseries in the city. The owners do not treat the staff properly and at Christmas the advertised crafts for kids for charity, the money does not really go to charity.
