I had such a wonderful experience here, the staff were extremely helpful, friendly and knowledgeable. Plus they then went above and beyond afterwards when I accidentally broke my purchase immediately after leaving the store. I took it back and they helped me find a new item, and only made me pay the difference in price even though it was my fault. Iwould have given them 5 stars from my initial visit but this kindness was very much appreciated and I will definitely be recommending them to everyone.

Terrible customer service. The worst. I was assured my order would arrive for a community event I'm holding by 4pm. My order was then put into the wrong day. Even though I checked in with the staff to ensure things were on track and told I'd get a call back confirming, no one bothered to call. Had to spend tons of time on the phone and no one apologized about the error. Worst Service EVER. Waiting to see if they can make this right - if so, I'd be willing to change this review...

Worst experience. I have purchased a large wicker basket from Value village prior to coming here and had it in my hand (tag still on). On my way out, the sales lady yelled at me and accused me of stealing the wicker basket from Islington Nurseries. I showed her the tag and she didn't say anything more. No apologies or anything.

They have a very good variety of plants that are very healthy. Great gift ideas too! I shop here all year round, not just during the gardening season. And they have a flower shop in the back that makes arrangements...I'm not sure many people are aware of that :)

We have bought our Christmas Tree here every year for the past 15 years (OK, there was one "IKEA year" - more on that later). The Service has ALWAYS been great! They HANG the trees in their yard, so they open up a bit and you can see how they will look at home. They make a fresh cut of the base. They trim the lower boughs, and give them to you. They wrap the tree, and secure it to your roof. All of this in (typically) sub-zero temps. Can you get a cheaper tree at IKEA or Loblaws? Yup - no question. Can you get a nicer tree? Not likely, but you'll only know 24-48 hours after you set up your $25 tree.

On April 9th I received 5 yards of the triple mix and now that it has been rained on a few times there are several painted wood chips being exposed and yesterday I found a piece of glass in the mix. I sent an email for them to explain how this soil can have this kind of contamination when I'm buying it for growing garden vegetables but didn't get an answer. No where is your product advertised to contain recycled building products. There's also a fair amount of small rocks but certainly paint is not suppose to be in there. I disposed of the 1st batch of painted wood chips but after continually seeing more I have started a collection so I can bring it to their attention so the issue can be fixed

Make sure if you order river stone it's clean with no mud and dirt it was a real pain to clean it...also order less than they tell you..their stone calculator...is is squewed for you to order more than you need...be careful..because there are no teturns...the river stones were multicoloured and of high quality

I have loved this garden centre for decades now! I have purchased lots of spring/summer plants over the years. The staff are knowledgeable and very helpful. Last summer I ordered an arrangement from their florist and could not have been more impressed with how beautiful the arrangement was. Avoid this place if you want decent customer service. From the time I entered the store until the time I left, I felt like an intruder. The employees I encountered tried to avoid any eye contact. When I asked an employee a specific question, I was told I had to wait until another customer's question was resolved. After ten minutes of waiting, I realized that customer had left the store and the employee had disappeared. After not being able to get help from anyone, I decided to wait in line and pay for my overpriced items. It was clear that the cashier wasn't having a good day and didn't want our business.

I have been shopping at Islington Nurseries since 1998, when they were still located at their original store, also on Islington Avenue but further north. This store is a family owned business and has been around for more than 50 years. I have included a few photos from the previous store, taken in 2005. I also have added some from the store as it is today, The present location has an extensive indoor store, featuring a large selection of indoor and tropical plants, a florist and a wide choice of ornaments for the home and garden. The garden centre part of the store is really extensive. They have a large perennial selection, also shrubs, evergreens and trees. Depending on the season, they have an extensive selection of spring, summer and fall pre-planted pots. At their other store on Evans Avenue, they have a decent selection of aggregates and rocks. Their prices are reasonable and the quality of their plants and other merchandise is good. The people that work in the various sections of the place are generally helpful and pleasant.

What a disappointing, unhelpful and distasteful experience. I’ve been coming here since I was a kid and have the best memories buying from this location. This place is no longer in the business of customer service and I’ve never been so thrown off by how they can quickly dismiss their customers- someone who has put quite a lot of money into their growth. Calling to ask if they had a specific item in stock they responded with yes we have quite a few bushels. I asked for the price and the price was 3 TIMES more expensive then what they’re selling for at other nurseries. I ask if they were able to match the price they said no. I asked to speak to the manager and the associate happily relays to me that he said absolutely not. I wanted 35 or more of this item and they were not willing to work with me as a customer to come to a happy resolution that would not hurt their pocket. Truly disappointed, neither myself or my family will shop here again. And working in event management and wedding planning industry , I will be sure my customers will also know where NOT to go.

Rude manager. Apparently I was supposed to ask before I took a couple of pictures of pots/ plants even though there is literally no policy on this matter. There are over a hundred pics of items in the store online, and there were other customers doing the same. Felt like harassment for no reason even though I was just taking pics so my office mates could suggest what to get. If there are no signs that say you can't take pics in the store, well, what do you think folks will do? And why is the onus on the customer to ask "permission" to take pics of items? Roses were not fresh, but there is no way to see it until they are packed since the fridge is 4 meters away from you as well as the packaging station. Also, waisted a lot of time since forgot the face mask at home. If you require a mask in you store, masks should be available at the front entrance for customers. Bad customer service.

I decided to stop in today at approx 3pm and my experience with a employee by the name of Pat was absolutely unacceptable. When I arrived I was 3rd in line. Shortly thereafter 2 customers left the store and both customers in front of me entered the store without prompts or issue from staff. Prior to me entering the store a family of 3 left - I thought I would also enter the store just as the 2 persons did before me. I was rudely stopped by Pat and told to wait for permission. I was speechless but waited outside as she requested. Even the customers behind me were confused and asked what had happened and why I was turned away despite 3 people just leaving. When I was finally allowed into the store I asked for the name of the staff member (Pat) and tried to explain that I was simply entering because others had left....just as the persons in front of me did. She would not even let me speak, became incredibly rude and argumentative. Oddly enough, I was the only POC in the line and in the store at the time. I am not one for confrontation and after that experience I was not going to spend a dollar to support this business so I left. I truly hope she was just having a bad day and this was not a racial issue however I cannot help but be hurt and embarrassed by the treatment I received today and will surely never return to Islington Nurseries. I manage rental properties for several clients in the GTA and will ensure that my clients and landscapers do not source our flowers from this company either. Please train your staff to treat ALL customers with compassion and dignity.

I'm new to the area and was checking out some local businesses. I happened to stumble into this place the other day and I was absolutely wowed by their customer service. TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE!!! I'm an avid gardener and passionate about plants so I visit any garden centre. I moved close to Islington Nurseries 2 years ago and every single time I visited their store I have to deal with their nasty lack of customer service attitude. I just went in there to get greenery to decorate my urns and other Christmas arrangements, the lady at the counter was so snobby and sarcastic, she called someone else for help and he was even worse than her. I walked out empty handed and will make the drive to Plant World or Sheridan where they are so much more pleasant and knowledgeable. If you don't enjoy what you do, you should move on, too bad they all seem unhappy there...This is my third attempt to purchase from them and you bet it's the last!

Sadly, the only annual hanging basket (bleeding heart I think it’s called), I purchased at this place has not done well. Slowly dying day by day. I have many many annuals on my terrace and this is the only one that is horrible … I tried Calling within a month only to be told annuals are not covered by any warranty. First and last time Shopping here…

Very poor service, not recommended. We ordered flowers for a friend's birthday specifying the exact date in online order and with special instructions to deliver close to 5PM if possible. Funny thing is, on the delivery day, just before 8am I received a call from their payment department that my transaction didn't go through even though I was 100% sure I entered it correctly and received email confirmation of it, and they said it will be processed in the afternoon. Not even to mention that I was departed from the call with: "Thanks mam. Bye." My male voice probably wasn't impressive, I guess. Anyway, they delivered flowers next day in the morning and both, message and sender information was missing, so our friend had no clue who sent it. Of course, she called them up to check who is it from and they said that they forgot to attach it. In the end we were lucky because at the same exact day of delivery our friend took a day off from work and she was at home, otherwise those flowers could end up outside in the middle of winter storm.

Horrible experience at Evans location. Nazi girl in the office! You say "good morning" to her, she'll be just staring at you! She will NOT help you with anything, her job seems to be to drive as many people away as she can! They're gonna go bankrupt with this person in the office, she should be loading up bags with sand in the yard at the best! Was coming there for years, will not be coming again! Beware, do not ruin your day!

Had a wonderful experience visiting this nursery. If you’re a house plant collector, you’ll find a wide variety you can add to your collection. And though I only came for plants, I found myself intrigued by garden accessories/decors that I ended up purchasing a few. The staff were helpful at the right amount: checked in on me once or twice if I needed help - not watching over me like a hawk. They even noted down what plants I would like to have and said they will call if they have them in (will wait and see if they actually do - cause some nurseries don’t fulfill these promises even tho I find those plants available on a different day of visit - ie. Sheridan Nursery Etobicoke). I especially appreciated the fact that most plants in the store were labeled with their specific species - AMAZING! - helpful and thoughtful. Honest downsides: unfortunately they have some wonderful plants I want in my collection that I ended up not buying because the foliage was not at the best condition. Maybe I was the last to pick ????????‍♂️. Some plants are overpriced (for the species and for the condition of the foliage), some are priced very cheaply for what they are, but overall priced reasonably in general. Still a nursery I enjoyed and will continue to visit.

Houseplants sourced from the same greenhouses as other independent nurseries are about 3x - 5x more here. Nobody greets or acknowledges you while you shop. Holiday greenery was hugely marked up (1.5x - 2x more) compared with other independent nurseries. The store is very cramped and the indoor part of the store had a funky smell. The only positives about the store were that it was nicely decorated and they at least had some plants (beneath all the decor). I don't know about garden plant prices since it is the wrong season, but I assume they are more of the same and I won't be returning to check that out.

Great selection of philodendron and other plants. Prices are often quite competitive for plants 6 inches and under. Have not seen any larger plants or monstera when I have been in store (during off season). I would recommend for anyone looking for supplies or houseplants and does not want to travel outside of the city.

Richly deserves zero points. Purchased a 5-foot emerald cedar on august 20th. Was told that I could get a refund up to one full year by the lady who assisted me, and said they would provide a written guarantee. The guarantee I was given (and did not read, since I took them at their word) excludes cedars. The cedar is now dead and I wish I had purchased one at any of the other nurseries. All of them offer a full year return policy, or more.

The first time I went here I dealt with the most unfriendly, unhelpful and unapproachable cashier. She wasn't blatantly rude-", no - but I almost felt guilty for being there. It was almost as if my presence seemed to inconvenience her. The second time I went there, I was greeted by a friendly cashier, so no issues there. Unknown to me, I arrived soon before they closed. I went outside to check out their lavender (which really didn't look that great to be honest), and then came back in when they announced over the loud speaker that they would be closing in ten minutes. Not even a minute went by when some elderly lady (who didn't even look like she worked there), yelled loudly to me that the store was closing. I'm not deaf. I'm not buying anything either, so I don't need to go through cash. It won't take me 5 minutes to walk 20 paces out of the store. Chill out with your bad attitude. Go to Sheridan nurseries instead! They are the sweetest people, and so well informed.

Double check substitutions. The 'White Designer Urn', Premium arrangement I chose to match my Mother's Urn for her memorial service, was a cheap white plastic pot.

I like this store. I went specificially today for non-plants. They also have great gifts and cards. I was able to quickly find two things that I really wanted for a dear friend's birthday. The cashier even took the price stickers off and wrapped them in tissue paper for me and off I went! The staff there is great and helpful too.

Large PLASTIC black planter $515!?? Small boxwood shrub- 36$!??? Slightly smaller version of the same shrub: 6$ at HomeDepot. So....
