Two store museum with lots of local history. Remember that Dawson City was the "Paris" of the North and the building if full of history about the gold rush, natural history, and the history of the city. Within easy walking distance of any of the hotels (but the whole town is). If you visit the city this is a must to understand what it is doing out here in the middle of no where!

A lovely little museum! Housed in what used to be the administration building for the Territory, back when Dawson was the capital, the museum showcases gold rush and post rush history.

Interusting tours

Nice exhibits of early Dawson City. I enjoyed it.

Daniel Harris

Like the rest of Dawson this is part of the tourist show. The town would not exist without tourism. Good museum lots to see. The walking tours around the town are worth doing - book them at the tourist information centre near the ferry terminal.

The Museum had just finished major revamp when I went in Sept `21 and sadly, it would be have amazing in the 90s. But the way people consume information has changed since then - there needs to be a multimedia approach to create interaction. Unfortunately here it is just endless stagnant displays with text explanations.. If you're into looking at an old cash register with a blurb attached then you'll love this place. But I found my eyes glazing over after the first of four rooms simply because nothing stood out. Take nothing away from the history (I loved the stories etc), just needed to be presented better for something that has undergone such a renovation

Anton Berger

Good displays. I'd recommend watching the rocker box demo

Museum director's tour was spectacular. He was very entertaining, informational, and clearly loved Dawson City history.

Very informative. Cool locomotives. Lots of neat things to look at

Michael Valdivielso

Had some amazing recreations of the old times. Very informative and fun. It was darker and had some mannequins that might scare kids, but it is definitely worthwhile.

Tons of history and artifacts from both the First Nations and the stampeders. In the off season call Alex and he'll open the museum, show you the movie and tell you lots of interesting stories about the Gold Rush, museum and the Courthouse (which is upstairs- you can visit it too!)

Nicole Godfrey

Delightful

Dave C

Solid information on Dawson's history. Well organized and easy to follow. Expect to spend around a little over an hour here.

Christiane Cramp

Original buildings with wax figures to help make the information come alive. The town makes you feel like you just stepped back into the 1800s when the gold mining brush was happening. Well worth the long trip if you drive.

Gmanndogdeguy

Super interesting!

Mary Beckett

Very informative, Miner's Meeting show is worth seeing.

Dave Shalala

Interesting and informative. Be sure to visit the train shed.

Canada Day celebrations after the Yukon River Quest paddling race. I don't know of there's any validity to it, and maybe it's due to having just completed 444 miles of nonstop canoeing, but the watermelon served at this event was the best I've ever had.

Jackie Hong

Was really great place to learn a bit more about Dawson. I wish the train shelter tour was a bit longer and more in depth. Note: if you have a fear of mannequins, there are a fair amount here. It's still worth the visit if you can push past the fear. Bring a friend! Also the gift shop is one of the better priced ones in town!

Jim Fellion

Excellent displays - very friendly, informative staff.

Ben

Complete museum with all Dawson history. Showing old object of the time and some fake housing. A bit smaller than typical museum but makes it easy to go.

Jenn Standring

A little off the beaten path and not very well indicated, I found the Dawson City museum very interesting and well presented. The staff were welcoming and informative.

A great museum, but a fair warning they use a lot of mannequins and could be a bit freaky. I'd hate to be there at night hahahaha. There is a room with stored artifacts that have not been put on display yet, and I wish they would have been labelled somehow. Also the information is very heavy so be prepared to read a lot. Although most of it was very interesting.

Brandon Flynt

Definitely stop there.

This museum was so cool and had so much really cool history. Often I go to museums in small places and it's kind of boring, but this one was not!

Nice history...esp. watch the movie. Best part might be the "attic." Most museums put all the "stuff" not on an exhibit in a warehouse or someplace not accessible to public. Here, they put it ALL in display cases, jumbled and unrelated. Enjoyed tjis immensely!

Lots of information on the history of Dawson, how it started and grew, and got to where it is now. We arrived pretty close to closing so we didn’t get to go to the locomotive shed but they do a discount on admission in the last hour before closing. There are also nice clean washrooms. Great stop!

Jenette Blatchford

Thanks to all the human effort to keep history alive

A small museum mainly focused on Dawson's Gold Rush history, with some nods to First Nations. Lots of creepy dummies used for dioramas and everything's a bit aged. Also contains a courtroom and a library upstairs. Not bad for the $9 admission price but I definitely wouldn't call it a must-see.

Jesse Thomas
