I went in looking for organic popping corn. They don't sell it, they only had GMO corn. Employee told me all popping corn available anywhere in the world is GMO. I went to Bins and Bins, they had 2 varieties of organic, non-GMO popping corn.

Went today to grab a couple things ....we all know covid is here to stay for a long while and I work in healthcare and totally understand all that is covid and the cleaning required and how to do it properly under provincial cleaning practices....I also understand how challenging these new procedures are for people ....so with restrictions in place ppe needs to also be used and worn properly which isn't being done here despite the attempt...the cashier had the same pair of gloves on the whole time I was there, she checked out a handful of people( about 5 while I was there) touching their things with dirty gloves, the same gloves she checked out the previous person(s) with , also cleaned shopping carts with and opened the door for people with, wiped the counter with...gloves are not required or needed when hand sanitizer is in place and there is a hand washing sink, which staff should be using regularly during shift between hand sanitizer use, breaks etc...now the runner or personal shopper was very friendly but again never changed his gloves between customers and cleaned carts and served another person while touching our products with dirty gloves...see the use of gloves just spreads germs around from person the person , not helping prevent anything...next time I am there I will be asking for the gloves to be changed or removed before touching my things ..

Won't go back and support this store. Don't kid yourself, the dried fruit is full of bugs and flies and they cannot keep them out. That's what former employees say all the time. Also, I have a mask exemption and this owner is dumb enough to follow the government. Its okay because soon you will be shut down.

We're all sick of the big C. To actually tell me I have to use hand sanitizer when entering and then proceed to explain to me how to follow the arrows! You want to hold my hand while I pick out spices too? Not one business has told me I had to use hand sanitizer. A bit much. I went back in without a mask and said I was medically exempt. Her words were " Please leave the store". It just shows they are so wrapped up with the big C that they don't care about their customers other health issues. Shame on them. Never again folks. I'll go to the one off Sheriff.

Just realized today on top of all the new candy's to choose from theres also a spice rack with a bunch of different popcorn seasoning and also colored pasta noodles! Bulk barn has always been my go to for candies ????

I do not recommend this store! I purchased a pet food product for approximately $100 and my pets refused to even touch it, even during their mad dash to collect before winter. It says a great deal about that product when a hungry wild animal won't even try it. Then the store refuses to refund the money and we believe changed the description on the original sign after getting the heads up from head office which I spoke with several days prior. This says a great deal about the store and their customer service and loyalty. I will never waste my money at this store again.

I enjoy Bulk barn and their products and make a point of going whenever I can get near one. The staff is usually wonderful however today I found the cashier in this store to be very abrupt, bordering on rude. When I tried to remind her about the $5. off coupon she simply ignored me and continued to cash me out and move on to the next customer. Next time I will go to Nanimo.

This location was wheelchair accessible, clean, followed covid protocols, with a wide selection of items as you would expect. They do cake pan rentals. They allow you to bring your own containers when covid protocols allow. Staff were knowledgeable, very friendly and great with kids. This location is clearly well managed and staffed by an amazing team.

The cheesies I bought were stale, and one day the manager said I couldn’t use my mesh bags due to Covid anymore, even though staff allowed me to just days before. She said I could use canvas bags or containers. So I gave her my canvas bag to inspect, which was literally brand new, never used, and she told me I couldn’t use it either because she saw food crumbs in it! But there weren’t any food crumbs! I feel like she was meaning to give me a hard time! And I didn’t have containers with me and bought those fabric bags just for shopping at bulk barn because I was hoping to go 0 waste and package free. Regardless I’m really turned off about going there again because they put you through such a rude ordeal when you try to bring your own things. The Local Refillery doesn’t have as much bulk items, but they’re customer service is way better and they allow me to use my own bags.

Well, I visited the Courtenay store again this morning (Oct 25). At least there was a "greeter" on hand this visit who read the rules. He explained that I should not pass another customer in the aisle - I should follow along behind said customer - but if I came across a staff member it was okay to ask him/her to let me pass. We're all wearing masks; what's the rationale behind this "rule"??!! Did he really expect every customer would patiently wait behind another, forming a long conga line??!! You HAVE to be kidding! I finished my shopping and, as instructed, went to the last aisle to line up. Again, like the last time, I was faced with a long line of 6 people: Just over 16 minutes later, I was invited to the cashier station, after she wiped down all the surfaces. I told her I had my own bag. I started to load my purchases into my bag only to be told to "Please do not put your bag on the counter." "But you just cleaned it and you will be cleaning it when I leave." So I put my bag on the floor of the store and loaded my purchases into it. I have had it as far as shopping at this Bulk Barn outlet. There is plexiglass between the customer and clerk at the first station. Why not put another sheet of plexiglass behind the first cashier so that the second cash position can be used and get your customers out of the store instead of making them stand in line for over a quarter of an hour??!! It ain't worth it. I'm shopping elsewhere in future.

Allow extra time to shop at the Courtenay Bulk Barn during this period of the Covid-19 pandemic. There are only a few people allowed in the store at a time so you may have to line up to enter. The store takes its cleaning and safety protocols very seriously so patrons are asked to use hand sanitizer and to don disposable gloves before entering the area where foodstuffs are located. There are directional arrows on the floor and shoppers are asked to abide by them and not pass other shoppers. Lines marking the six feet safe distance are marked on the floor approaching the check out. The check out area is thoroughly disinfected after each customer vacates the area. The bins are well stocked with the usual wide variety of baking supplies, candy, pet food, and specialty food products.

The grey haired lady is on a power trip. She is rude and disrespectful. I understand Covid protocol but she is too much. Yelling across the store is unacceptable. I took my business elsewhere and will not be back. I don’t need the abuse and bullying.
