In all my visits this year to garden centres, which were many the plant wizards here were second to done. They were very helpful, not in a rush and they even shined my leaves on my cat friendly plant, I don’t even get my windows washed when I get gas. Huge selection, lots of parking, easy to get to. Very unprofessional and unreasonable . Prices were sky high and yesterday everyone who did not wear a mask were pressured to buy one from them for $6.00 at the store entrance . So even if you went inside and were sticker shocked and left they still got $6.00 out of your pocket . The management should know this is a bad idea. Give a free mask to everyone who does not have one and show you care about them and not the money. Disgusting !

Be careful purchasing perennials from Royal City Nursery! Last fall I planted a ton of perennials purchased from a few of our local nurseries. Most of my perennial border came up beautifully this spring, with the exception of the Royal City Nursery plants. Only one of every three of the Royal City Nursery plants even came up this spring. When I brought it to their attention, the response was simple, “Ya, sorry, but we don’t offer a warranty on our perennials”. Like I said, be careful where you buy, after sales services goes a long way!

Bought several trees here. One was very sick. Was told on the phone twice to bring in a branch to get my refund. When I did bring it in they said they want the whole tree to be returned. I had it delivered and of course it won't fit in my car. It is also 30 km.from my home and in a completely inconvenient location. A complete waste of time, money and energy. Whatever their policy is they should at least be consistent. Especially considering I called twice to make sure it wouldn't be a problem. Go to your closest local gardening center instead of this place.

My wife is the family gardener, not me, but this is one of her favourite nurseries. Terrific selection of tools, supplements, nutrients and other things you won't find in lesser or big box stores. Plus of course, plants. Reasonable prices.

Was attacked verbally by an employee when stepping out of my car while my mother went in to pay for mulch for not having a mask on. It wasn't even in the business it was in the parking lot. Did not honour my official doctors medical exemption. Will be hearing from the human Rights commission. Extremely disrespectful and disappointing with this level of discrimination. Unfortunately there isn't an option to give a zero stars.

Visited store Saturday 05/30. Advised mandatory mask is required to enter. Instructed masks were available to purchase if you dont have your own. I understand you have the right to determine your own COVID policy. However, requesting your customers to buy there own mask is crass. Many other stores supply customers with a mask. With the increased interest in gardening this spring your business I'm sure is enjoying higher then normal volume. In turn, increased profits. At a time when the majority of other business aren't even allowed to operate. Passing on a small percentage of your profits by supplying free masks would be appreciated by the community.

This was my first visit, a free gardening magazine was dropped on my door step and a Mason Bee workshop caught my eye. I attended the one hour workshop and I was very impressed by the knowledge and education provided. I picked up a few flowers and a box of bees to start my own bee garden. Their plant, tree and flower selections is pretty good, and they have it categorized by Pollinators, Shade loving etc, which is very helpful as I am new to gardening. Prices were decent compared to other greenhouses. I really enjoyed my time there this morning and I definitely will be checking out future workshops.

One of the roses we got didn’t bloom until we took it home and it wasn’t what we expected so we took it back 3 weeks after we bought it mind you we had a warranty until November for this rose. Even though we wanted to return it we watered it EVERY single day. When we went to return it they said it is not possible as it looks really dry and we have more experience than you. They didn’t believe us when we said we did water it and took care of it. They said it’s not sellable since it is dry. Then what is the point of the warranty?! When we are telling you we took care of it and you still won’t believe us. The lady laughed at us when we got frustrated. I am very very disappointed and will be telling my family and friends to never shop from here again.

My kids bought me a Hibiscus for Mother's Day. They picked up day before and within a week, it was showing signs of dying. I took some pictures and in them, I noticed webs all over the top. I sent an email with the pictures to Royal City Nursery and received a reply back to use insecticidal soap and to re pot with better soil - which they would be happy to sell to me! Implied that plant was infected in my home. It sat on the counter and was cared for as per insert instruction. I have a green thumb so that was insulting. Instead of offering a new plant, my kids are out the money for this one and I am out the money for a replacement - which I bought at Zehrs. It's disease free and at least five time the size for the same price! Your customer service is horrible! You lost a customer over $20

I emailed the company on February 13, inquiring about landscaping consultation services for some landscaping I’m looking to do in the spring. Expected it would take a week or two to get back to me since this isn’t their busy season. We are now at March 16th with absolutely no response. Very disappointed as they were recommended. Royal Nursery takes every precaution to keep its shoppers safe during this pandemic. Masks, hand sanitizing and distancing is practiced by all the staff as well as printed information being posted. As a small business owner I’m very disappointed with the customer service displayed. I had spent hundreds this year to outfit a new room in my office building with their plants. Within 7 days my fig tree was showing signs of an infection with white bugs. The remaining 6 plants I purchased did not have such an infection. It was clear that the plant was infected before purchase and it wasn’t a result of the office building or else the other plants would have shown problems as well. When contacting them to relay my concerns all they suggested was to buy an instecticidal soap and treat it. I had done that with no luck and they still refused to replace the infected plant they sold me! They’ve lost an annual customer all over 75$... Find somewhere else to purchase plants. The responsibility and accountability for their product is grotesque.

I was treated very poorly here. There were zero customers in the store yet no one asked if they could help me. I asked if I could get some pots (like the plastic ones you throw out) for my daughters church group to make arrangements for elderly and the lady scoffed at me like “why would I give you those when I can sell them in our workshop” I’m like ok you don’t have ANY? 3 or 4 for elderly people. So kind guys. Wow! Then I’m in there with my three year old who is wearing gloves and I got very rudely reprimanded basically telling me kids shouldn’t be there and he should not touch things because of covid. He’s 2. She treated me like I was a disease. Worst customer service. Everyone in there was miserable. Bye! Never coming back.

I've spent probably $6-700 here this year... been gardening like crazy during COVID19 to stave off the boredom. The first few times I visited here it was definitely 5/5. I did find some things quite pricey, but you do get exceptional quality in return. I was a little surprised to see so many reviews with mention of little white bugs!!! I will have to double check my plants I just bought... I took off a star as the young lady that helped me today was a little rude. She was very knowledgeable, but got a little snippy when I said I would have to shop around town. Guess I hit a nerve, lol. Overall, I will probably come here every year to buy my gardening goods. The tree we bought a few months ago is thriving in our yard and I like that it came with a guarantee - makes me feel more confident about buying a big ticket item from this nursery. Worth a look. Keep in mind that right now, you need a mask on at all times, and NO kids allowed. Its always a good idea to check the website before you go anywhere these days, as every establishment has their own rules and regulations due to COVID19.

The expert, detailed help in choosing my plants was fantastic- unlike some other garden centres these 2 ladies knew their stuff! However, I was treated rudely by the lady in the clothing section- not once, but twice when I asked for help/ pricing about items in that part of the store. I was very close to telling her off , but decided she was hopefully just having a bad day and was not always like that! I will give this place another try since the expertise in the plant section is really what I need and will come back for. Unfortunately due to covid you have to enter through the clothing section though, and there is some really nice stuff in there, but next time I will pass through quickly.

i have some words to pass on to the old grouch that wanted to tow my car for “trespassing” a couple weeks ago. Me and some friends parked our car in the parking lot, and after being gone for maybe 7-10 minutes they locked our car in the driveway and called a tow truck for “trespassing”. i thought this was a shopping centre that is open to the public but it turns out it’s only acceptable for staff to park there. Make sure to compliment every stupid plant in the entire (private) property or the old lady with the beard will tow your car. Be sure not to shower before hand or they will accuse you of jumping into some lake nearby. Guess they only like dirty people to fit in with their personalities. I can find better plants in the cracks of the sidewalks anyways.

There is no such thing as return warranty in Royal City Nursery. When we bought 6-8 rose plants from RCN 3 weeks ago. We asked the cashier about return warranty. The cashier said that if the plants are not growing properly we accept the returns. We went back for return on 23-06-2021 as we wanted to return a rose shrub that was 3 weeks old within the warranty. When we asked for return as rose wasn't what was expected as they hadn't bloomed, the customer service was already hinting that it might not be returnable because of covid. After getting the nursery specialist she said that "the plant was too dry and we wont be able to resell this plant." (pics attached and taken after coming back). We told her the plant has been watered from week to week, every day. Because of hot weather it may have dried out a little. But when I asked her that if I rehydrate the plant and come back to return will that be okay? she said no because she has already seen me come in for return and she will not take returns from me, while holding my plant in her hand. I tried to reason with her that I had bought many plants from here multiple times, and she said that's fine. After me trying to resolve issue and the so called specialist not taking any consideration into account, I said I will not come back here and asked for my plant back. She retaliated by swinging the plant away from me and demanded me for my information and that she was fine if we didn't come back. I told her that's my property she's holding and I want it back. She insisted on having my information for blacklisting me for an event where I come back to return the plant when I had told her I will not be coming back ever. In the warranty, the term "not properly maintained" is used very loosely here and they need the plant to be spotless otherwise its unsellable condition. This was a disgusting customer service display from Royal City Nursery. I will keep my promise of not returning here again unlike RCN return warranty.

Some business owners like the above have totally lost it. What is the point of even staying in business? Masks mandatory in an open outdoors garden center area + they will turn you back if you bring your kid! I won't bother shopping there again! Lots of other businesses much more welcoming!

I own a small landscaping business and stopped in at Royal City Nursery to place an order on a few yards of mulch. I was astounded to find that the price of mulch was $80 per yard, the highest price I have ever seen on mulch in the years we have been operating. I placed the order at 9:16 a.m. and the order didn’t arrive until nearly seven in the afternoon. I was assured by staff the order could be delivered between one and five in the afternoon, which would have been an acceptable timeline. After wasting hours on site with a small crew that had no mulch to spread we called it quits for the day, the delay caused a scheduling issue that resulted in the rescheduling of both an estimate and another clients project. Further I also had to force my crew to work during what was perhaps the hottest day of the summer, which was both an extreme annoyance and a safety issue. I also cannot imagine a business taking nine and a half hours to fill that order especially given the price point. In order to give Royal City Nursery an opportunity to remedy the situation I stopped in today to request a full or partial refund, I even would have taken store credit. I was told that the staff needed to check with the owner to “see if thats possible”. I have yet to be contacted by anyone in regards to my request which I made nearly eight hours ago. To summarize, this was the most expensive mulch in the region, the way in which both the delivery and my grievance were handled was embarrassing and I lost countless dollars paying a crew that had no work to do.

Great products and selection but it is the staff that keeps me returning. If you are a gardener and know "Parri" previously from another garden centre, she is now at Royal City Nursery. I have taken her advice for years, and now that I know where she is, I will continue to do so. Prices are a little higher than some other local nurseries though.

Wonderful atmosphere, I can spend hours wandering the store and the outdoor selection of plants is fantastic. Excellent workshops, great for mother-daughter dates or girlfriend outings. I made multiple trips to Royal City Nursery this year. On one of these many trips, I brought home a $70 Fiddle Leaf Ficus and a $60 Snake plant. I brought these plants directly from the nursery into my bedroom. The Ficus was not close to any other plants, and after a few weeks I noticed little white pests on top and underneath some of the leaves. I called Royal City and spoke with Pary who was very kind and helpful in identifying that this plant had Mealybugs and explained a few treatment options: buying $25 ladybugs to feed on them or buying a $35 treatment spray. She explained that Mealybugs are attracted to houseplants kept outdoors, meaning this plant had already had a pest when I bought it from the nursery. I asked if I was able to exchange the tree because I wasn’t necessarily interested in investing time and money into these treatment options when I was sold a diseased product in the first place. Pary explained that she would have to speak to the owner about whether they could exchange the product for me. After several hours and phone calls I finally had the opportunity to speak with the owner, Tanya. Tanya explained that she was not able to replace the plant because I had had it for over 7 days. She also claimed that if the Mealybugs were there when I bought it, I should have noticed them earlier. I told her I had a death in the family and I wasn’t paying a lot of attention to my plants throughout the past week. There was no way these bugs suddenly appeared on the plant if it had been sitting in my bedroom the entire time. Tanya felt the need to explain to me that “bugs have wings and legs”. However, these bugs do not have wings and none of my other plants have been infected by this bug. The most logical explanation for the infection is that it had been acquired at the nursery before the plant was brought home. After explaining all of this to Tanya, she said the best she could do for me was give me a complimentary bottle of spray to treat the tree. After weeks of treatment, the bugs seem to have subsided but the tree is left with red dots all over the leaves which are falling off constantly. This is no longer a tree I would want on display in my home - a complete waste of money. Having worked in customer service for over 10 years, I was completely unimpressed with the owner’s customer service. Even if you don’t agree, the customer is always right. She doubted a loyal customer and provided a useless and unsuccessful solution. This issue could have easily been resolved with a store credit or exchange.
