As you know, we do not usually bother to write reviews when they are positive and we usually do it only if we have had a problem or issue...
This Gardener is included in the category of Garden center.
Negative, stressful vibes. Was questioned as to why I was there and when said just browsing was told they don’t allow that due to covid. Another lady was walking out and asked if she could exit the way we were coming in a the staff member asked if she was hiding anything under her coat?! Like excuse me? Super strict on their covid rules. Holy it was stressful. Didn’t know where I was going half the time. I get that covid is happening but lighten up a bit. Everyone was so uptight. Just felt unwelcome and guilty for almost being there. Won’t be returning. All the other greenhouses I’ve been to are completely different and not as up tight as this one.
Excellent place to get your Christmas tree and Christmas decorations. Friendly and knowledgeable staff on hand.
Good place with an awesome variety and selection. Best place ever for fruit tree's. Staff are always helpful in finding what you want and other plants to go along with them.
Their selection is great and their prices are too but I find them to be lacking in customer service. I’ve been there on several occasions where the staff was either pushy trying to sell me on something I didn’t want or just down right rude. It’s an amazing place and I love buying from there, I just wish their staff represented the business better.
Just a note to confirm how pleased I was with my recent purchase of soil supplies at Grobe's. The speed and friendliness of your communication and curb-side service was top-notch. Couldn't have been easier. I know it takes a lot of work and determination on your end to make that possible! I'm listening with interest for an update on your appeal to the Premier to allow in-person shopping at garden centres. Your advance preparations to make this possible must have been met with great disappointment with news last Friday that it would remain curb-side only. Regardless of the outcome, you can count on my patronage online, or in person! I wish you and staff the very best as we work through this situation.
Pros: Friendly service, excellent quality of plants. Neutral: Average prices, Average selection of plants. Cons: Website needs serious help, looks like something that was designed in the 90's.
Great selection and service. Always able to trust what I buy at Grobe.
They're doing an excellent job of encouraging physical distancing within their grounds. Great selection, friendly knowledgeable staff.
Amazing place with a lot of stock. They do a great job of keeping everyone safe and distanced.
Poor customer service. Couldn't buy anything because no one there to give some advice.
It's unfortunate that COVID-19 has brought out the pettiness in a lot of people. My experience at Grobe's this week (2 days in a row) has been great! I was treated respectfully on both visits and received the information and products that I needed. Still the best garden centre in the region!
AMAZING EXPERIENCE! I am so happy to be back at my favourite Nursery and Garden Centre. Thank you again for being safe with provided sanitizer, spacious pathways, and limited entry for people with a plan! Your friendly staff are always so willing to provide advice, share a laugh, and show me exactly where I need to go. I am excited to return soon and purchase more vegetables for my garden :)
We always go to Grobe for our Christmas trees. We love the no-fuss environment. The kids loved that they got hot chocolate packets as we were checking out.
I love grobes❤staff are wonder and very helpful even in this quarantine. First time in 30 years of going there that there was hardly any choices!
They have lovely Christmas accessories to go along with their Christmas trees.
I completely respect covid protocols and individual businesses rights to make protocols that they feel are the most correct however I was also very shocked with the hostility that we were instantly greeted with at the front door. I also work in an essential business and we also have stricter protocols than most but there is a much better way to approach people than this. It does get mildly frustrating to have the same conversations over and over but becoming hostile is never the solution from customer service representatives.
Great selection and great service
Good plants prices not so much.
I've been going to Grobe's for years! You cannot beat the selection and the service! Every section you go into has smiling helpful staff. I needed some small white marble rock for an edging project I'm doing. Of course they had it! The nice young employees even loaded it into my car for me. Too bad they couldn't come help me put it in! My house looks amazing because of Grobe's
We got our Christmas tree from Grobe's this winter - which we had never done before. It was such a great experience! They were definitely taking safety precautions for covid seriously and had a clear process in place. Will definitely come back!
Nice place, only two persons from the same family at a time... But it's ok, it's a covid measure
Best place for Christmas trees!!! Coming here for 20 years now
Lots of employees to help out and direct you, lots of plants, tree, shrubs, flowers, fruit n vegetables
Very disappointed in this business we won’t be returning. The greeter at the gate was quite rude and told us without a shred of customer service that because we have a very young child he would have to stay in the car with one of us, it wouldn’t have been so bad but we called prior to us taking 25 minutes to driving over and the worker on the phone didn’t say anything about limits even though we asked. This is a shame and we will be taking our business elsewhere. Edit: As the issue was mainly customer service, this answer doesn’t really make any sense
Love this place also.
Service was great and they did a good job with ushering people through the cashier as well as through the greenhouse.
Should come here sooner
Prices are reasonable compared to the rest of the nurseries in the area. The quality of the trees are amazing, and last a long time. I usually buy my tree 45 days before Christmas and it looks just a good the first day as it does the last. They have a little shop with decor. They are friendly people and I would never buy my tree anywhere else. I come from Baden just to get my tree here.
Fantastic service. They didn't quite have everything we were looking for but that is mostly our fault for getting out so late in the season.
Friendly knowledgeable staff ,good prices, great selection, well worth a visit.
I'm new to gardening so this was my first experience at any nursery. I thought that the prices were high for what you got but, not enough experience to say. The place is well laid out with plenty of helpful staff. There is a discount for bulkier orders which helped some.
My home away from home. As a recent vegetable and fruit gardener I guess you'd day, dealing with staff and Mr Perry has been delightful. Their knowledge, patience and passion really make it easy for an amateur like myself remain enthusiastic about starting a new home Garden venture.
It's been years since I've been here (due to moves away and back). Still wonderful quality, and the FRIENDLIEST people!
Most organized during covid lockdown and their associates are really helpful, including inform you not to put plant outside due to frost
Great safety precautions. Great flowers and shrub's.
Fantastic first experience! The staff was knowledgeable and helped explain the requirements and growth expectations for the fruit trees I was selecting. The selection was amazing all around, I couldn't believe how many beautiful trees, shrubs, plants were there. Most impressive was the help I got loading my truck up - the owners took the time (a significant amount of time) to help ensure there was no damage to my 3 beloved fruit trees I was bringing home. The love and care towards the trees and customer was impressive and I will be back as a return customer for sure despite being over an hour away! Thank you!
Very knowledgeable staff and great selection. Our go to place.
Wonderful nursery. Huge selection, especially of trees and shrubs. Prices very reasonable and products are high quality. Parking a tad limited because of its popularity. Bought my pear tree there and it's doing wonderfully. Lots of outdoor and indoor decor and even have some snacks like stroop waffles.
Nice store, great selection, price not too bad, staffs friendly. No washroom for customers???? Be prepared, don’t hang out there too long.
I love gardening and this has always been our "go to place". From every season..including Christmas trees you won't be disappointed. And if your looking for garden accessories or even gift ideas..their inside store is remarkable. I find the prices very good and service exceptional. The "accent is certainly on grow" as their ads state.
Very kind, very helpful, and great selection of wreath making supplies!
Very impressed at how friendly and informative the staff was. Also appreciated how organized all the plants are and the top quality. It was an hour drive for us and I am sure we will be back.
Best place in Ontario to buy large quantities of Cypress wood chips. Exceptional quality for indoor reptile enclosures!!
Had a great experience here! Tons of selection and everything is clearly labeled with all the information you need to know about each plant. Every staff member I spoke to was friendly and incredibly knowledgable; they helped me pick the perfect plants for my garden and told me how to best care for them. I can't wait to see how my selections turn out!
Loved this place, perfectly organized, very friendly staff and huge variety of plants available ????
Showed up on a Monday morning when the parking lot was fairly empty, and the lady in charge of check in saw my husband and I pull a stroller out of our car and advised that their store has 2 person per family rule. We explained that our baby was only 1 month old, but she refused. I understand capping family numbers during busy times but a one month old on a non busy day is just ridiculous. Instead I had to FaceTime from the car as my husband looked through the trees. Also no manager available to speak to upon request.
Very helpful staff
Great variety of trees, perennials, annuals and shrubs.
WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE I HAVE EVER HAD, AND FROM THE OWNER NO LESS. I recently ordered, via the new online order sheet, a rose bush for my mother for Mother's Day. The man that received my order had some trouble with it and apologized but promised to have the order filled my Mother's Day. Communication was not the greatest but he fulfilled his promise and I received an email to call the nursery Mother's Day morning. On the call I paid for my rose bush and was instructed to come by any time that day to pick up the flower. With my mother in the car I pulled into the parking lot and called the number that you are instructed to call for contact free pick up. The man that answered the phone was very rude and abrupt. Many times mentioning he did not care about my order or when I tried to order it and I shouldn't have come because they do not do pick ups on Sunday's. I tried politely to explain the situation and how one of the employees said he got permission for the order since it was his fault it got messed up, but the man was constantly raising his voice to interrupt me. I finally asked to speak to someone more pleasant because I could not handle the disrespect and he replied in a snarky tone "Sweety I am the owner, there is no higher up than me". I was in complete disbelief the owner of a family run small business could be so ignorant, rude and disrespectful to a paying customer during a pandemic. Eventually his employee explained to him that they screwed up my order and I got my rose bush I had already paid for, but the owner was unapologetically rude the entire duration of the interaction. I have shopped at Grobe's every year for the past twenty years but I will never shop there again. Unbelievable.
They've got a good selection of plants and fruit trees. The succulent section was pretty small.
Great place for all your gardening needs the staff are super friendly and knowledgeable.
Nice stuff but I REALLY take exception to being greeted at the door being asked basically if I am there for something specific...I.e. "am I planning to spend anything today." Covid or no covid....you're open...you're monitoring how many people are coming in...following safety protocols. Give the hysteria a rest! Some of us can't browse as easily on a website as we can in person. You have a great looking facility....I might come back.
When I showed up just after opening and saw the line up to inside wrapped around the building, I was shocked! But, there is a reason that Grobe's is so popular! They worked very hard to make sure that everyone stayed safe and social distanced and I appreciated their hard work. They staff were knowledgeable and helpful, and their selection was fantastic! I've been looking for Virginia Creepers and I was having a hard time finding them. I'm thrilled that I was able to find them at Grobe's.
We shop here seasonally, in the early-mid Spring for a good variety of seedling vegetables, and annuals for potting in planters and hanging baskets. A nice selection of home decor, and friendly staff who are knowledgeable. Sometimes there can be quite a line up at the cashier during planting season, but that is to be expected. A fantastic garden centre overall.
We have been going here for at least 20 or 30 years as a family to get our christmas tree and check out all the items for sale. And have some hot chocolate and timbits. This year has really changed things a lot but they still manage to make it special and festive. Thank you.
A well organized and playful stroll through 4 zones of everything you need for Christmas! Thought and care were obvious in the friendly staff and nice selection. #supportlocal
I stopped in here yesterday as I needed a few pots and was looking for new plants to add to our new living space. Upon entering a very empty store, I was asked if I could be helped with anything. I politely replied I was just looking and was told that they are highly discouraging browsing at this time so pretty much I was to get in and get out. This is the first nursery I have been to that made me feel like I was doing something wrong because I was looking for plants and pots. I completely understand we are in a lockdown yet again but the government has allowed for nurseries to stay open, so to be made to feel this way was completely unnecessary. The store was completely empty and honestly, if you don’t want people to come in for what they need, then why are you open!?? I am trying my very best at this difficult time to support local businesses but I did not spend a dime here after being made to feel that way. I went up the road to Belgian Nursery and was greeted with friendly customer service and was never made to feel small for simply shopping for plants. I won’t go back here again, there are many other local businesses who are grateful to have customers come in and spend their money at their establishments.
1. Called in to ask if they had a specific tree I was looking for, (northern catalpa) and the response from the lady was lacking any sort of professionalism. She was very rude and putt off’ish and definitely had me feeling like I didn’t want to go there. But I really wanted the tree. 2. So I drove an hour to go there and brought my daughter with me because she loves flowers and plants. When I got there I was denied access because I brought my daughter with me. Children are not allowed inside.
Well laid out and we'll labeled. Can check stock online. Had everything I wanted and more
Great plants, helpful staff
I have to say with all that is going on I dont get the chance to go into many businesses anymore. Especially smaller businesses due to closures and reduced hours etc. But grobes and their team follow strict safety measures ensuring their staff is safe yet not loosing their commitment to customer service. The knowledge that I get every time I call for gardening is unbelievable and in very high demand during these times. All staff are friendly guide you where you need to go and assist you with what you need. The fact that they have a not browsing message on their website is just amazing! I occasionally still support other local nurseries but grobes is our families 90% year after year! Glad to have them in our area and looking forward to continue supporting their business for many more years to come!
I love Grobe's. --very organized--and just the right size nursery. Love the gift shop inside also. And very importantly, it is easy and safe to enter and exit.
I would give this zero star if I could. Absolutely HORRENDOUS customer service. We went out of our way to support local businesses and were flat out refused entrance because we had our 3 year old daughter who was wearing a mask perfectly was with me. We drove over half an hour one way to get refused at the door because I had a child? DISCRIMINATION against families and family circumstances. Spoke to the manager who also refused and said was their policy since COVID-19 started. Hidden to the left of their VERY busy website page is where you can find in small that children 13 years and under will be refused entrance. You will allow people from ALL high risk profiles and jobs who are at a much higher risk than a small toddler who goes to a daycare of 8 children total. Where is the reasoning in that????That little girl cried and was very upset by the fact that she was refused entrance despite that she wears her mask PERFECTLY. Unfair, discriminatory policy especially to families with small children.
Very friendly very knowledgeable
My go to for fruit bearing bushes and tree's!
Got told no walking up to the lineup with my kid. Just "No". Had no idea he was talking to me. Turned out he didn't like my 3 year old being present. "I can't do the kid" were his exact words. Corona or not, just straight up rude. Post on your website or have signs if kids aren't allowed on the premise. Get your stuff together if you plan on reopening or, better yet, stay closed. You're not an essential service, people are going here for non essentials, their going to bring their kids. Have not had this issue anywhere else. Discrimination.
I love Grobe's Nursery. The flowers are always healthy and a nice size early in the season. The staff is excellent and able to answer all my questions about the different varieties of plants.
It was open Easter Sunday which is nice. They have an awesome playground for the kids. Selection of trees and shrubs was pretty good. I wasn't sure exactly what I wanted and didn't really get inspired by their selections. I also felt like prices were high. I saw that Belgian Greenhouses was just around the corner so I went there next. I will write a review for Belgian separately because I really happy with the selection and prices.
We go to Grobes every year to get our Christmas tree and the experience is always delightful and memorable. The staff are very friendly and helpful and I love the ornaments and decor they sell. They changed things up smartly to help deal with the flow of people during covid and it worked well! Love this place!
Incredible staff, always friendly and helpful. Ever since the start of the pandemic, Grobe's people have had the best protocols in place and I'm grateful for all their efforts, often thankless, in keeping our communities safe. Thanks for having our backs!!
I have been shopping at Grobe's for many years and during this pandemic I will only go to Grobe's due to their strict safety protocols. I feel safe going there and they are doing an excellent job of sanitizing, pointing you to what it is you are shopping for. I like the fact I can get in and get out in an expedient manner. The staff are so friendly and helpful. I can't say enough great things about Grobes. The vegetable and annual flower selection is great. A nice bit of space to keep you distanced from other shoppers. Truly exceptional. Thank you Grobes for understanding this pandemic is far from over and keeping you and your customers safe. A very enjoyable shopping experience during these difficult times.
Very appalled with how the staff interacts and communicates with patrons. I understand businesses need COVID policies. However, there is no need to enforce these in a rude, crass and unfriendly manner. I witnessed two employees - the lady guarding the entrance and the lady coordinating check-outs - be very rude and short with customers. It made for a very off-putting experience. Almost as if we were in some kind of prison complex. Had previously visited 3 other nurseries in the area and didn't experience this type of behaviour in the slightest. They had COVID policies in place - but the staff were very friendly when communicating them. I recommend Grobes take an honest look at how their staff treat and communicate with customers Otherwise, people - including myself - will simply stick to the other nurseries. Just be nice to people!
Excellent quality Christmas trees every year. Wrapped and cut for a two dollar charity donation.
Many exiting the store for a good half hour and no one coming in. Well within business hours. Looks like they're trying to empty the nursery without communicating to anyone. I understand the covid rules and the limitations but this one was certainly trying to empty out the store with a long line not knowing what's happening! I'm sure there were many in line like I was who were there for something specific. Not just browsing. I'm sure they have some nice plants but there's many other lovely nurseries nearby who know how to run a better business and train their staff. Find a different nursery! Edit- My 1 star rating might have made it seem like I was exaggerating out of frustration but my experience was as such. I'm also quite puzzled by the owner's response to doubt my own experience. My review is very much from what I perceived during my visit: staff were unapproachable for explanation as the line was audibly frustrated watching the people leave- and the carts come back into the store for a long while. Was the person in charge of the entrance and communicating with the visitors on some sort of break? I'm well aware of the 25% capacity and did read your website prior to visiting. In fact it was through there that I planned a purposeful visit. Perhaps you've confused me with the others who don't like rules- we've been in this pandemic for a while and I know the drill. Visitors feeling unwelcome and ignored is in your control.
Disappointed with the customer service from the owner himself. Quite condescending, and did not honour the price he quoted in writing. Made the visit very uncomfortable and made us feel unwelcome, despite the hundreds of dollars we were spending. Will not patronize this place in the future. Gardening is supposed to be joyful.
We have been getting our Christmas Tree from Grobe's for at least 15 years. Grobe's never disappoints. Their service is the best. This year the trees look great, and there are lots of them.
Got some awesome Christmas plants there last year and excited to return for more this year. Only complaint is that most of the holiday decorations I saw were from China. Would be nice to see more locally sourced & manufactured products in the future.
My husband and I went today and we were very impressed by the staff's concern for everyone's safety. Everything (e.g., layout of plants, proceedures on how to buy) was well organized and clear. Checkout was quick. We will definitely be back.
Best place to go for your nursery needs. Lots of Christmas fun as well. Staff super friendly and helpful! My first choice!
No dogs allowed? Really? No food being served. No health inspection issue. Not overly handy location to then be turned away. Fortunately, lots of other nurseries. I’ll be back when Grobe changes its policy
Great staff, great selection and very well organized. My wife and I have been a loyal and satisfied customers for over ten years. We would highly recommend Grobe's Nursery and Garden Centre.
RE: Cremo Shaving & Scented Products I am absolutely ecstatic to have found a range of Cremo's line of products being offered in Canada, @ an excellent price with fast shipping. OH, that is merely the beginning; Perry is one of the best company reps I have ever had the pleasure of chatting with, as I believe it is difficult to find truly honest people now-a-days whom support the products their sell. Thank you, and I have already been spreading the word =)
Don’t bother to go there unless you know exactly what you want to buy. They are discouraged people to go inside. You are not welcome there. The lady on the front was very rude. Today I spend hundreds of dollars in numerous garden centres and nowhere, except in this locations they asked us why do we want to go inside. Obviously I didn’t want to buy shoes or food but plants for our garden. Anyway, today you have lost me as a customer and I will not recommend your place to anyone.
They may be on the pricey side but they always have what you're looking for. Great variety. Great quality of plants. Love how everything is organized and laid out. Helpful staff.
Terrible customer service. I will never go here again. Nor should you.
Wonderful family run business. We gladly drive 40 mins in spring for flowers and back again in December for Christmas trees. Quality and Customer Service are excellent. My husband worked there for a few years and they treated us well. Great appreciation for this business!
bad refund policy : - tedious procedure for submitting refund, have to go on their website answer lots of questions and submit pictures, i think they purposely made this difficult so customer will not be able to apply. - the owner try everything to not refund the purchase. The owner will use excuses like not enough water, sun and some other factors to reject the refund application. Although the condition of our flowers are well documented, the owner still refuse to give us refund. - in contrast, the return policy from Sheridan nursery is much better. Plants died? No problem, exchange for new ones. - the previous review from Keith Gammon also addressed the same issue on their refund policy.
Made my annual visit to Grobe Nursery today to purchase my veggie plants for the season. Couldn't have been more impressed with the staff and quality of product. The plants were all in great condition (not like when you go to a Big Box store and you are lucky if half the plants in a pack are thriving). The variety of plants available was also more than acceptable. From the time I arrived until I left, staff were helpful, friendly and courteous. For those that are concerned with their well being and physicals distancing in these uncertain times, I can say that I was most impressed with the steps Grobe has taken to ensure that customers are socially distancing etc. You could definitely see how Grobe's as a local business ensured health and safety measures were in place to keep the community safe Well done!
I go here yearly for my Christmas tree. Selection seems to be getting smaller each year for the 9' Balsams, in particular, but what's there is really good quality and lasts three weeks. Fun little outing with the free timbits and hot chocolate.
Great place to get the perfect Christmas tree. Staff are friendly and fun. Very helpful. Beautiful gift shop and unique decorations.
Very well stocked. Very good collection of perennials, annuals, flower beds, trees and vegetables. Well maintained and arranged. Very cooperative and friendly staff. Help is available everywhere. Covid restrictions are well adhered to.
Nice trees very helpful staff
Great selection of Christmas trees at a reasonable price. Friendly staff. We will visit them again
This was our first time being here, but I couldn't be more pleased with our experience. We bought a tree, the transaction went seamless. Staff was helpful. We were supposed to have the tree delivered the following friday, but because of a small mixup, it got forgotten. After a quick phonecall, they were sincerely apologetic and went way above and beyond to make up for it. We were pleasantly shocked when they offered to bring the tree to its planting place, to make up for their mistake. Normally they only deliver to your garage. They take great care of their plants, making sure to deliver when it's best for the survival of the tree. We felt very well taken care of. We will most definitely be back. Thank you Grobes!!
We purchased two planters for $160.00 and after three weeks they died . I called the owners son and he said there is no warranty. It almost sounded like sorry about your luck. I’m generally very good at taking care of plants . It wasn’t the first time that we purchased plant from Grobe’s we’ve been purchasing our Christmas tree and decorations for years but no more....... it wasn’t a good experience.
Quoted a lower price for delivery then was told it was more at checkout. Manager wouldn’t honour price quoted. 7 year old was kicked out while wearing a mask as kids aren’t allowed. Terrible signage expressing that. There are better local businesses to support. Edit: Whereas the owner has taken the time to write a lofty, long-winded review, effectively calling me a liar, I assure you I brought the tree barcode to the front having been quoted a delivery cost to where I live only to be told a larger amount upon my return. At which point the staff member called the manager Perry to see if they could honour the price. Perry was the same “gentleman” I had earlier witnessed accosting a staff member while I was shopping for said tree. Perry had a similar reaction to my request that he had to the poor employee who was cleaning up debris in the yard. I encourage anyone considering shopping here to do ample review research on this platform and others prior to making the trip. You’ll see my experience is not unique.
Great place well set up great staff and excellent service. Hot chocolate and coffee and Tim bits for a small donation. Can't remember the cause. Tree displays are awesome.
Busy..staff very friendly
Not very inviting at all, older lady is very grumpy When asked questions she has no manners Feels like you're in an army base and guarded, With patrols on every corner, you must use sanitizer before you enter, I told him I have my own in the car they told me that I have to use it to enter ridiculous won't go back., Also front cash, is it procedure feels like you're going through a travel checkout.they do have decent collection of plants.
I am really shocked to see so many people taking issue with this staff trying to protect themselves and their families during a global pandemic. For the people who left those kind of reviews, you should have stayed home and kept your miserable to yourselves. Grobe has been a solid staple of our area for so long, and they are going to have so many lovely beautiful flowers for us all to enjoy, but I think they deserve a break, as does everyone who has had to work through this entire pandemic. I can't wait to come out in a few weeks and find some new treasures for my garden. They always satisfy!! Stay safe!
I have always enjoyed shopping here BUT after today’s HORRID customer service, I will no long go or recommend this nursery to anyone. They’d made a mistake on a sign but instead, called me a liar. HORRID way to treat a customer. Guess I didn’t spend enough $ to warrant good service. ????. If I could give it 0 stars, I would.
Grobe’s is my go-to for any tree, shrub or evergreen. They hand pick many of their trees and it really shows in their quality. I have spent almost $10,000 with them for my home and couldn’t be happier with the end result! Thank you to the very knowledgeable team as well - my questions are always answered. We are about to landscape my manufacturing warehouse and I know Grobe’s has my business.
RUDE and overpriced, hope it closes down. go to home depot your probably better off
Was the only garden center in area open. Quite good.
My co worker and I wandered into this store today after checking out Kitchener area garden centres as we were on town on business. Instantly the atmosphere was so friendly, the employees looked so happy to be there and the plants were in gorgoeus condition. I only wish there were MORE plants. Well done guys, we'll be visiting whenever we are in town again :)
I called the store and the person I spoke with was very rude regarding my inquiries. He does not have any manners to handle customers and I was so upset about his choice of words. Very unprofessional. Before coming to this store, I called to inquire if customers can come in and the staff sarcastically responded " you can't come in if we are close" and I replied " ok, my family and I will come and visit " the staff replied " we don't allow customers for any visitation and just look around". I was offended but still ended up our conversation with saying " Thank you". I felt disrespected on the way the staff responded to my inquiries.
Got denied access because I didn't wanna say what I was getting unbelievable place very rude and on edge employees at this pace specially the gumpy lady at the front, very bad customer service and bussines plan they got during Covid. If you cant respect and welcome bussines during this time.. I suggest keep closed..also the guy infront of me also got denied access because he refused the hand spray they give.. Apparently its vinegar they spray unbelievable .. So it was a wave of ppl who also left!!. Glad I dodged that bullet
I wishing could leave NEGATIVE ☆! Because that's what they deserve! Horrible place, horrible customer service, won't let kids into the greenhouse due to covid-19, but letting adults in, what is the difference! NOTHING!!! I WILL JUST SUPPORT MY LOCAL MENNONITE GREENHOUSES FROM NOW ON, THERE ARE LOTS OF THEM AROUND AND HAVE WAY BETTER PRICES AND SERVICE!!! I used to like Grobe's bur NEVER AGAIN WILL I BUY ANYTHING FROM THEM AGAIN!! As I'm sure they will lost a lot of business because of this, not just from me!!
Great customer service. Went pretty late in the season for my tree and they still had a decent selection and the best prices in the area.
Worst experience at a store during Covid. The owners have taken this WAY too far. Stopping your car upon entering the parking lot to ask who is going in the store. Another staff member spraying your hands with who knows what chemical. The staff at the check out seemed paranoid of catching Covid, telling people to stand back and put your plants on cart and walk the long way around, this store is over the top!! I felt so uncomfortable in this store. The Belgium Nursery was much more laid back and such a better shopping experience.
We've been getting our Christmas trees here for 4 years now. Always a good selection, staff is knowledgeable and friendly. Prices are pretty competitive and shopping is done indoors.
Great place for Christmas trees, wide range of type and price of trees. Normally, a great family atmosphere. (Pre COVID)
The people and plants are wonderful
Was looking forward to visiting- 1st time visitors. Upon arrival was greeted with a sour face and an unfriendly demeanor telling us curtly no dogs aloud. Who knew a 10 lb dog that was carried would cause such a reaction. The least we expect is some courtesy, at the end we ended up taking our business elsewhere.
Great service - friendly and helpful. I like the layout. Great products
Don’t recommend this nursery if you have more than 1 child with you. Went to this nursery yesterday with my two small kids to encounter a lady standing outside telling the Max family limit was only 2 people, it was super hot outside felt like 34C I was super disappointed and asked her what I was supposed to do!?!? Leave one of my kids in the car with the heat!?!? She replied that’s totally up to you want you do!!!!! WHAT????? Anyways I will never be stepping foot at that nursery again even if they give me free flowers. SUPER DISAPPOINTED!
Last year, we updated our landscaping. As the on-set of COVID was happening, we decided to shop local after hearing Peter Groebe on CHYM radio. We spent just over $700 on 8 shrubs, then went back to buy our Christmas tree, everyone was very friendly... One year later, of the 8 shrubs, all are flourishing except for 1, we drove up today to return the 1 shrub under warrantee and buy additional flowers. We got to the cashier and explained the situation, she told us that we didn't read the return policy, you need to submit an email claim and there was nothing she could do. Since we drove for 40 minutes, we asked for a manager (we had the receipts, planting instructions and pictures of the shrubs), we were met by "Perry", who became extremely arrogant and condensing that we needed to submit an email claim clearly stating "we are not going to hash this out in the store", we were totally insulted and left everything there. Truly unfortunate as you try to help a local businesses! We will drive a little further to Terra Nursery or go back to the "big box" stores where at least you are treated like a valued customer.
After the speech from the owner this morning we walked away and I know ill get the same spiel as the other similar reviews. I do not have a problem with following the protocol entering your store even if I don't agree with them as we all have a difference of opinions and I do respect the company's who are trying to stay open but I believe there is a better way to speak to your visitors more respectfully as you expect us as customers to respect your store.
Every staff member we encountered was happy and helpful! I'm sure they are weary of enforcing Covid protocols, but everyone was kind, gentle with instruction, and friendly. And their knowledge of plants is astounding!
Great nursery and the staff are knowledgeable and friendly. Prices are reasonable and product is good quality. We'll definitely be back!
My family and I got our Christmas tree at Grobe’s tonight. They have a wide variety of trees that are very affordable and in great shape. There is a beautiful little shop and they even offer a fresh cut on the tree that you choose. Super friendly staff too!!
One the my favorite nurseries who have an amazing selection. This year alone we bought, 2 x Slender Silhouette Sweet Gum, Red Obelisk Beech, 2 x beacon swamp white oaks and other shurbs on the backyard makeover. Prices are amazing and plants are in great shape.
We love Grobe's! Always great variety, always great and friendly staff. Everything we have bought has done well, and two years in a row, the most beautiful Christmas trees!
Lots of selections, friendly staff, some what reasonable price
Well priced, family-run business that goes beyond the usual in customer service.
Great customer service and lots of product!
I have always shopped at Belgian nursery but since they are closed for the year, I went to grobe’s since it was just up the road. After shopping at grobe’s I definitely prefer Belgian nursery.
Wonderful selections.
So disappointed in Grobe’s Nursery. They are not a proud supporter of families with children in this pandemic. They are willing to turn away families with kids in tow because of this - no exceptions. Zero difficulties turning away the up-and-coming generations of gardeners - smart move.
If you’re going to go to this nursery make sure not to bring your child with you. Children are not allowed in. I guess it’s ok to discriminate against kids? ????????♀️ it’s ok Grobes, I’ll take my child and money somewhere else.
Rude unprofessional staff and horrible bussines model.. they do not let in families with two kids?!? what a joke! .. hope they get closed down again then they will see how badly they need business. Belgian nursery and Greenway gardens across the street welcome customers with open arms no interigation at the entrance just walked in with my kids.. Avoid and sped your money where you get appreciated
The staff are so helpful, knowledgeable and friendly!! Amazing beautiful plants and trees! We just bought a weeping Mulberry tree tbat we have been looking for everywhere!! Thank you so much for the great experience!
Great plants knowledgeable staff
They had everything I needed for my garden. Amid the lockdown everything was organized and moving well. So glad they are open.
I'm taking my business to a retailer that respects human rights. You'll get no sympathy from me when your business closes.
Best fruit trees in southern Ontario, disease free, growing well, great support.
I personally never like to go to a store that does not have any return policy even for unopened items. This means that they do not trust their own product or they do not care about their customers. Better to avoid these kind of stores.
Nothing great here whatsoever other than overpriced plants. With covid fearing employees. Got out of my van with my wife started towards store. Lady guarding the lineup right away nasty at us saying you just came out of that van with those people, 2 people per family. We turn around and look at an older couple who have continued up to the line from their own vehicle. Excuse me we say. I just watched you get out of that van with those people, this chunk continues saying. People whom we do not know. (My wife was just about to rip her head off cause if we had gone back to my Van, she would of been put in her place quickly, once she would have found my teenage son, my 11 year old daughter, my 8 year old son, and my daughter of 2 years .sRude rude and rude. Glad I got to get inside to hones, tly see what no one is missing. I'll spend my dollar somewhere where adults in a garden center business have MANORS. Obviously someone also cannot read. My kids were in a car. 2ppl shopping. Dont accuse until you catch my kids along with me in your store.
We went to buy a few plants and things for our garden. Theyjave it set up really well for social distancing.thr staff at the entrance was very helpful to direct you were to go and the way it works when inside. The line moved very quickly
Owner is very rude and staff are not really honest about their products. I wanted to return unopened and unused product since its not helping g my issues with my trees and they say we have no return policy? Also was told to go search for better product and asked for it when I come in next. Not sure who is the expert to advise customers here, the customer that comes in for advice or the apparently experts that are running this business. I have no issues with them not having the right product my issues is not taking unused product back. Never going back, thought supporting small business is a good thing but its better to deal.with lowes or homedepot at least they have better customer service and return policy.
I work at Grobes. We have the best staff and the best plants you will find in the area. We take bride in our selection of plants. I am proud to be part of a family who really cares
had exactly what we were looking for with great service and pricing
My family has been a Grobe supporter for years now. After today we will not be going back. We were refused entry because of my 8 month old child who was being carried in a baby carrier. I suggest going to the nursery just down the road(Belgium Nursery) where you, as a customer, are welcomed with open arms!
I went to Grobes today to quickly pickup a few tomato plants as I have gone there past years for my tomato plants. I went with my facemask and wanted to quickly get what I needed and leave as there were lots of cars in the lot. I was told I can only enter with a cart....i didn't need a cart and didn't want to touch a cart. I was told very rudely everyone entering had to take a cart so they could keep track of number of people. They wouldn't let me in unless I took a cart so I left....wont be back
Great selection and excellent prices. The staff are super helpful and knowledgeable
I got a response from my review, It seems they will use any excuse NOT to replace the tree or give a refund. Beware.
Great service and selection. I'm not very skilled with plants and the owner came out to give me suggestions and recommendations. Will definitely shop here in the future. Thanks for the great service!
Amazing selection! Large signage directing you to different categories of plants which I found extremely helpful. Not really needed though ???? because there is ample staff always around wanting to help and share their endless knowledge. Gorgeous gift shop too. I love this nursery!!
Wanderfull garden decor and wide sekection of fruiting trees. Friendly and helpful staff.
This was our second year purchasing our Christmas Tree from Grobe's Nursery. They very much have a family feeling going on and that makes it fun for the kids too, running through the greenhouse to find the perfect tree. The selection is quite good and excellent price range to suite almost any shopper. There are small 4' trees to 15' trees of over 10 species. Staff were very courteous and able to answer questions. The help to carry the tree out and get it bailed was timely with the kids who were busy drinking the complimentary hot cocoa. I didn't purchase anything in the decoration area but the selection who get those who like to do very excited.
I went to Grobes to simply re fill my bucket of bird seed. I had my daughter with me (who is in grade 5) and was turned away at the door as the lady pointed to the “no children allowed” signs. We were both wearing masks and she was holding my hand. Absolutely disgusted this business is discriminating and turning away customers with children.
Really impressed with Grobe's nursery! Hubby and toddler are starting a garden this year and have been shopping online for seeds. Apparently they are difficult to find and when you do find them they are expensive. In less than 10 minutes I was able to put in an order ONLINE through Grobe's website, they contacted me within 15 minutes to confirm. I called and paid with credit card. When I arrived I called the number and they brought out my order to a cart within a minute and after the girl waved and walked away I went and picked it up. Quick, friendly and social distanced service!
My most disliked nursery in KW area so far mainly for the offensive covid behavior, lack of discounts and stupid warranty procedures. My notes on the nursery: 1. The plants variety is a bit better than average but prices are a bit higher than average. 2. Their warranty process is a joke. They tell you not to bring anything to store instead you are asked to apply via an app. Wait a week or weeks to get a response if any. I uploaded a photo via this app but was told it did not come through. It took 3 weeks to find out the plant will not be covered under warranty in contrary to what the owner told my wife on the purchase date. 3. COVID. Just so you know. At the gates there is a sanitary stop. They want you to be sprayed all over with some shady fluids (when asked nobody knew what was inside). The poor gatekeeper lady had no idea about any nursery protocols nor had any of them available for review, she only knew she must spay and must watch you disinfecting your hands. They may or may not let you in with kids. If you have mask exemption - forget they let you in even to outdoor section. 4. Forget about this place if you count on discounts or fall discounts. There are none. 5. They also use some pushy tactics at the register to get you to buy something extra. 6. All the staff (except the gatekeepers) were were pleasant, thus 2 and not 1 star.
Love the experience and knowledge that helped us big time. Great folks to help get you growing properly.
Friendly professional knowledgeable staff.
It was fine, people were nice, upset they are not taking cash payment
Good Variety of plants and a well planned overall layout. However, Customer Service is lacking and I sense an attitude. Over the past few years I’ve visited multiple times and each time it’s the same. Starts at the top with owner/management ..Lead by example and Enable your staff to provide better quality of customer service.
Super Organized. Lots of staff to keep things safe and moving
Grobe's staff and management have pulled no punches in making a visit to the nursery a safe, welcoming and enjoyable experience. From the greeting at the well marked entrance, maps of the lay out and attentive,to the friendly staff throughout. If you want to feel festive support local, look no further! Our tree looks beautiful and we left with big smiles on our faces. The free hot chocolate package for our little one was a bonus. Looking forward to a new family tradition! 10/10
A very festive spot to shop! Pleasant and helpful staff. A great place to soak up some Christmas spirit.
Very helpful and we felt safe during our visit.
Best Christmas tree selections ever with friendly, courteous staff with a great sense of humor.
Quality is some of the best; staff are very polite and knowledgeable; great choice if perreniials. Well done procedures to reduce contact and keep both staff and customers more than safe.
Love their selection of Fraser Firs at Christmas time. They always have a variety of shapes and sizes, are well organized, and well priced. They also have lots of helpful and friendly staff there during the Christmas season. A great place to go for a long lasting Christmas tree.
I would give zero stars if I could! I drove a distance to get to this place. Upon arrival I was told I couldn’t bring my son in. When I asked why nothing was posted on there website I was told it’s on the homepage really big ( which it is not u have to follow links and search for this policy) me and my son were both in masks! The mans response on the phone was I can come in and leave my 3 year old in the car alone. They hung up on me when I got mad at this suggestion, of course I’m going to get upset he had the audacity to suggest this. Seriously, what kind of business is this? “Its for their safety even though they have mask and are 3 but feel free to leave him in the car alone.” This place does NOT know how to run a business! Beware if you have children! EDIT**And as the owner suggesting a went off on someone about it at the front door is completely untrue I just asked a question and politely left(this review has nothing to do with your worker at the door he was a very polite young man and was just doing his job, and a good one) it was your rude attitude on the phone that set me off, you are the one who had no idea of my situation or who I was with and the one that chose to be ignorant right off the bat with an attitude beware of the owner he is a liar! Now that I know it was the owner that I was speaking to and not just an employee having a bad day I will definitely not be recommending this place to anyone as the owner is ignorant and has no customer service skills! And FYI it was not the man at the door who suggested any such thing it was you on the phone that said “the kid can wait in the car for you” that is what made me go off on you! But thanks for lying about it now, really shows your character! Not to mention you can go read the other reviews about how this owner speaks to people and his excuse everytime is he did not remember it that way? Ya everyone is lying about your attitude towards people!
Fabulous experience from beginning to end. Extremely kind and helpful customer service. They even helped me load a large tree into my very small car. I’m sorry that people are taking issue with your protocol(s) simply because they cannot read or follow instructions. I, for one, appreciate how far you have gone to keep, both, staff and customers safe. I will be back! Many thanks again.
I have been searching for Haskap bushes and finally found some at Grobe's Nursery. I emailed them to ensure that the plants were there before driving the hour and a half. Perry, the owner, responded to my questions and gave extra, valuable information. I was so impressed with the quality of his plants that I went back a second time to buy more. He again answered all my email questions promptly and efficiently. Perry was more than helpful and helped me pick the best plants. He honestly told me which ones were not up to par, but offered to bring other ones in for me to choose from. He then loaded my 30 bushes into my FIAT. I am definitely going back there for more and would not hesitate to recommend Grobe's for both the quality of their plants and the knowledge and helpfulness of the staff.
Don’t go. Was refused entry since my wife and I were there with our son. Two people only per family. Thanks for liking my review globe nursery. I hope that more people read it. I looked at your web site and nowhere says two people per household. This is a made up rule you have not anyone else. It is total occupancy not per family. You turned away a family that is trying to support your business. I have a toddler and a wife that is 8 moths pregnant that I was trying to buy Mother’s Day plants for her to pick out. So would you turn a single parent with two children away? You should be ashamed of your actions and not trying to spin my review. I received your second response and after re visiting your website on my phone and clicking on multiple links I have found the area your are talking about. Your right it clearly states that the young and elderly are not welcome at your establishment without booking an appointment a week in advance. I find that unacceptable. Also the fact that you responded that your not ashamed of this is appalling. No other establishment I have been to throughout covid has denied entry on the basis of age. Your discriminating actions based on age has lost me as a customer forever and I will be sharing this information with as many people as I can.
Hi do you guys sell cherries plant? And red delicious apple tree ?
So we were aggressively greeted today by someone with a gigantic bottle of sanitizer and a demand to know who we were there with. After reading 12 signs on the walk to the entrance we already knew there could only be 2 people from one family able to shop. She also aggressively asked what exactly we were looking for. We told the her and she showed us the map, even though we were looking for a few different things. 2 minute walk, another woman stopped us and asked if she can direct us to what we were looking for. We told her that the first woman already told us, she aggressively demanded that she was supposed to direct us in the right direction. Ugh, what a horrible first impression. I also work in retail that has been deemed essential. This is overkill, there were people literally turning around after being bombarded at the entrance. I highly encourage the owner to experience your own protocol because it’s a huge turnoff. Huge sale lost. Thanks for your response but if you really wanted to protect your staff you’d be limiting the total number of customers allowed, it was packed on Sunday. Everyone was wandering around and browsing as most people require multiple items, not just 1. And not 1 staff member to help when we reached our directed destination because they were all crowded around your entrance harassing people. Read the other reviews, your protocol isn’t working!
Love the place, has everything u need to start your veggy garden
Super safe place to shop during covid! This is the first place I’ve shopped at where I feel completely safe going in person. I’ve been shopping here for over a decade the greenery they sell here is top notch and well cared for. Lifetime customer!
The nursery has good selection and the staff (with the exception of the owner) are generally friendly. We did however almost walk out of line during the owners "speech" given to customers waiting in line to get in, where he demanded anyone that hadn't reviewed the "instructions" posted on their website to publicly reveal themselves. He then loudly and aggressively shouted "NO" at a couple that had brought their dog along rather than politely advising that animals are not permitted (I don't care if this is on your website or not - most stores don't mandate a website visit as a pre-requisite to entry and this was clearly a simple mistake). This man lacked any basic customer service skills and was so off-putting that we will not be returning ever again, and have advised friends and family to avoid as well. There are many other garden centres where customers are treated respectfully (and guess what - COVID rules are still followed!)
If you care about how you're treated, drive the extra few hundred feet to Belgian Nursery right up the street and around the corner. Much friendlier staff and a better selection. If you care about saving a few bucks, Grobe's will do the trick. My wife and I were literally told that we can't "look around" and we have to buy something or leave--because of COVID blah blah. We were told this by the larger gentleman who usually runs the line out front (line management is a whole confusing disaster in it's own right). For a company privileged and lucky enough to be open when other business have been closed for months or boarded up completely, you think the staff at Grobe's would be grateful that they,re open and have customers to sell to--because COVID taught us how quickly it can all change. Thankfully there's other options out there.
We went today to get flowers and were told we could not go in together. It was myself my mom and my toddler. They told us this was covid laws. I have not experienced this anywhere else! I do not recommend this place! So disappointed. I appreciate your reply however you shou ld be aware that you are the only place pushing this! I went to 5 other nurseries and they allowed all of us to enter together. I can't leave my 4 year old in the car while I help my elderly mother pick out flowers for her home.
Rude and poor policy. I don't recommend
Awesome selection of plants and shrubs, had the exact sand cherry's I was looking for. Very friendly and informative staff, will be going again for all my plants!
We've been coming here every year to buy our Christmas tree. Employees are super friendly/helpful and the prices on the trees are very fair (especially in comparison to other places). Also a huge selection!
This place was by far my favorite shipping experience during this pandemic. The staff are all cheery, polite and just make it fun. I will always shop here for all my gardening needs
Good service and good pricing and great selection of merchandise
Edit- that was 6 people in store and 4 people outside. Total of 10. Was not referring to your age but the man in the wheelchair who probably should have been considered “at risk”. It is difficult to respect the approach you have chosen to take, but that will work itself out in time. Thanks for reply. A bit of a different experience to put it simply. My wife and I neglected to research the guidelines prior to driving an hour to buy a number of fruit trees. We were denied entry because my wife had our 9 month old son strapped to her front. My wife and son waited in the car. This is where I am very confused about what you are trying to do, I had 6 staff members helping me at one time. Which I mean great makes my life real easy, but these staff members are coming into contact with every person walking through that gate. I get what you are trying to do, but talking about risk and viral load you are really increasing risk where it isn’t necessary. My 9 month old is not a risk . 6 or 7 staff members ranging from the age of 15 to 70 with constant interactions with the public is a MAJOR risk. Thank you for the trees and overall a really nice greenhouse, but it was a bad first impression.
We drive from Woodstock to buy our garden items at Grobe's. Fabulous selection, great prices and of course great service. Second generation owned and operated with the expertise needed for those of us without it. And an added bonus...Grobe's also has THE best Christmas trees, which we drive 40 minutes to get annually.
Went to Grobe's early this afternoon. I wanted to avoid the crowds of the Victoria Day long weekend. I had to wait about 5 minutes in line to get in, as staff were explaining their Covid response policy to each customer. I was able to grab the fruit trees, ornamental bushes and vegetable plants with little to no delay. Always a pleasure shopping at your establishment even in uncertain times.
Ridiculous Covid rules, especially on Mother’s Day. My wife and 4 month old tried to enter and one of us was denied due to their 2 family member rule. Take note that their “child” rule applies to babies and infants - unlike all other businesses.
Super organized with covid protocols and staff was super knowledgeable and friendly, will come here again for sure
This place is much less expensive than "The Belgian" garden centre that is less than 1 minute away. Do yourself a favour and try here first!! The staff is super helpful. It's usually less busy. They seemed to have a lot more selection in gardening products too. Their tree selection is immense as well. And on the off chance they don't have what you need, the Belgian is on the way out.
The staff were very knowledgeable. They were friendly and had a lot of patience. They have a huge selection, so you have a good chance of finding exactly what you want. Lots of shrubs, trees, plants different sizes of each and prices.
Friendly, knowledgeable staff. Descent prices for indoor plants.
Poor customer service and nonsensical rules under the guise of covid. I have tried 3 times to shop there. I phoned to ask a question about an item listed on their website. I was told by who I think was the owner, that he didn't know, and wasn't willing to ask anyone else, and that I would have to come in and look for myself. I went there only to be turned away because they did not allow babies in the store, and I had my 2 week old in a carrier on my chest. Not sure what they expected me to do with the baby...leave her in the car? I tried again today, with 2 kids in tow and was told I couldn't go in because only 2 people per family were allowed. Again, not sure what I am supposed to do with my children if I can't bring them in with me. If you are a single parent with multiple children, be warned that you are not welcome there. I understand now why they had no line up and the nursery down the street had a packed parking lot and a long lineup to get in.
