Today I sought to get more planting supplies so I attended Garden Works in Burnaby, near to where I work. This facility has more stock than the store in my neighborhood in North Vancouver. Today I was looking for organic potting mix for seedlings. There will be food shortages this fall and so I thought to prepare now for that event. Growing our own food is not really what I had in mind. I am more of a market shopper rather than a grower of produce. This is a crash course in survival and recycling what foods I have. When I purchase veggies at the market, they are organic. If I cut the carrots half an inch below the stems, leaving the foliage intact, this will continue to grow when it is set onto a tray that is slightly filled with water. (YouTube videos help here.)I can transfer this into pots on my balcony and harvest the roots once again at a later date. This is how to recycle what we have. The marketplace issue is expected to last a few months. Skyrocketing inflation will impact my bottom line and gasoline shortages will be an issue. I get this information via my connections to the patriot links in the United States military feeds. I cannot grow gasoline and I my have to take early retirement if this situation goes critical. Bummer. I liked my job. More pots might be required and to this location I will return. They have a fine assortment. Terra cotta is what I like too. I can use this to make water-cooled fridges using sand as a filler. That will extend fruits and veggie for weeks instead of days. Yes, this is a fine store for a survivalist. Blessings and Namaste!

This is by-far the best place for buying plants. Majority of plants are decently priced and the plants quality is better than the ones found @ costco, Hometown, Real Canadian superstore, etc. The staff gets 100/100 as they will help you in buying and then how to plant them properly. I am looking forward to visit them regularly from now on and I recommend this place to everyone.

Generally, a wonderful selection of plants and shrubs on display! Well lit private facility with lots of fresh air onsite given the large volume of greenery here. Friendly, knowledgable and helpful staff ! Negative is that it is generally an expensive place to buy plants. A reasonable deal can be had on the garbage bag of dirt you fill yourself in the parking lot. Facility would benefit from a coffee/tea lounge area. They do also run interesting public workshops on various gardening topics throughout the year.

Ultimate destination for all your gardening needs. This location in particular has a large selection of plants to choose from. Staff members were extremely friendly and knowledgeable for any questions I threw at them. Ended up buying a dracaena for my apartment. Pleased to see covid procedures in place making the overall experience much more relaxed and enjoyable. Highly recommended!

Long lineups to get in because they only had one person on cash register even though they had many people standing around doing nothing. The ones who were standing around didn't know anything. If you like camellias, go now, they have hundreds. No roses whatsoever, we asked. The plants they do have are in very good shape. Long lineups to buy your stuff too. Really poor service. High prices. They only allow 80 people in the store at a time which seems low considering my Shoppers Drug Mart, which is about 1/4 the size, allows 102 people. Service doesn't seem to be high on their list.

We came for a birthday party with my toddler who was invited. There were almost twenty children who sat around a few wooden tables and made a succulent fairy garden. We loved the variety of materials that were given to the children... there were rocks of different colours and air plants and gems. Some children even chose glitter to sprinkle over their garden because it's "fairy dust". Not sure if my toddler knew what was really going on, but the older children definitely had a blast. Just wish the presenter had a mic cause she was mumbling and the children were talking and it was a very big open space that carried her voice away. Overall a great location for younger children for birthday parties.

I love this place! Next best thing after Art Knapp's in Port Coquitlam closed. They have a wide selection of plants, as well as tools and accessories. Only downside is that the plants tend to be on the pricier end, but the quality is unmatched. The staff is always friendly as well.

There are also various fertilizers, which are especially busy during the virus, because everyone works in the backyard at home. This year's demand is particularly high, and we line up every day.

hello,I got publically shamed today by one of your staff for bringing my children into the store. to my question, are children allowed? I was told, "yes they are allowed, but you need to control them". My kids did not make any mess, did not break anything. They were just looking and gently touching things. It is completely inappropriate to make comments like that to a mother in front of her children. Never coming back. It was the most humiliating and unpleasant customer service experience I've ever had.

There are several Garden Works and I always forget which one has the most indoor plants. I was close to this location last weekend so I dropped by and I was pleasantly surprised by all the tropical selection. I bought a cactus and a variegated rubber plant. Although parts of it was under construction, they still got lots of good stuff going on there! Will definitely go back in spring/summer!

Poorly Organized and Not Impressive Customer Service. My 5 yr old daughter loves, planting succelents and gardening. She had seen, while visiting the store. A children's birthday party. It's all she could talk about and how she wanted to have her own party there. After looking on the GardenWorks website, I contacted the email listed and patiently waited to hear back. After a week and not getting a reply. We stopped by the store, nobody knew nothing about how to go about planning a party there. We were sent very which way. Finally, someone said to write down our name and info, they'd put it on the desk of the person who does the parties. A week later, still nothing. Now my daughter is out of a birthday venue and we are running low on time to find a new or better plan. She is heartbroken and disappointed that she can't have a "garden party" at her favourite store.

I've visited this location to look for succulents and each time I go the selection/variety is quite disappointing. They're the same common varieties that are usually stretched out from lack of sunlight and don't look that healthy. Their cacti selection looks robust but I'm not that knowledgable/interested in cacti. Their arrangements look ok but not the individual 3inch plants. I even called once to ask when they restock to see if I could come by and see what new varieties they have but was told they don't know what day they get deliveries of new succulent stock. Not too helpful. I prefer visiting the Mandeville location as they constantly have new stock coming in with lots of variety and they look healthy! Too bad as this Lougheed location is way closer for me than Mandeville. I wish there was an option to be put on a calling list when new shipments arrive so I don't have to go out of my way to visit and be disappointed.

I recently had rated this place 5 stars but after the service today I have to drop that. Emma P was my cashier today unfortunately. She started to ring in my things without saying a word and when I noticed one of my products was not the right price I inquired with her about it. She said she didn't know the actual price and didn't offer to perform a price check or even have me go back to take a look, she just kept ringing it all in. After everything was rung up I asked to use my discount code to which she responded I wasn't able to due to the month. I had been there earlier this month and been offered to use them and I let her know. She responded with "well they were wrong your total is.." I was kind of taken back, no apology just a rude tone. It's totally fine if I can't use them but the way I was spoken to is the issue I had a full basket of things and was carrying stuff in my arms. Once I paid she just stood there and I had to ask for a box.. quite disappointed and once I am able to use my credit I don't think I will be back :(

Initially I really liked Garden Works. My fiancée had bought a condo in November of last year and we really wanted a balcony garden. We really knew nothing about balcony gardening and wanted to go somewhere where someone could take some time and help us with what we wanted to do. We made about 3 initial visits to Garden Works prior to buying anything. Each time we spoke with someone there, telling them in detail what we wanted to do, what space we had, what we wanted to grow. Each time we went there we ended up speaking with someone who seemed to know what they were talking about. So on the fourth visit we started buying planters. We spent over $200 on these things and then were told that they wouldn’t be able to be used with the types of flowers we wanted to grow. What??? Seriously? We only asked 3-4 times. Other information we were given also turned out to be wrong. We wanted an apple tree for the balcony-primarily as a pollinator plan- and were shown very beautiful trees that would actually produce fruit. Fantastic!! Until you find out from the one guy that works there that actually knows what he’s talking about that: The apple trees they have shown you will never grow fruit because you actually need two different ones (male and female) to cross pollinate and produce fruit The planter that you would need for this going into about year 4-5 might very well collapse the balcony from its weight Really disappointing. Spoke with the manager about this and apologized, saying he had lots of new staff. Positives for this place- great selection, prices seem not too bad. You might find some things cheaper at other places but by the time you spend all of that time driving around to save $20?, maybe not worth it. Big place, several locations, good parking and delivery service. Negatives: if you are not sure about what you are doing, don’t go there and expect that the information you are being given about what you are needing to buy for what you want to do will be correct. Good thing they refunded all of our money for what we needed to return.

GardenWorks and Mandeville Gardens have been my go to places for garden supplies. They are both excellent and carry a wide variety of plants, containers, fertilizers, seeds and bulbs. They carry an extensive selection from West Coast Seeds. The staff there are very knowledgeable and helpful. GardenWorks is my main source of bulk materials. I love it that the bulk bins are so accessible with provisions for cars to be parked right by. Their prices are not the lowest but I am more than willing to pay a bit extra to shop there. Their fall perennial sell off offers great deals. Just make sure that you know what you are looking for. They are my source for restocking the goldfish in our little pond (to combat mosquito larvae but unfortunately the raccoons have them for sashimi every winter.). They also have the largest selection of tillandsias.

I'm new to gardening so the layout was a little overwhelming at first, but I got help from their kind employees. I intended to make a "quick stop" for a plant or two but I guess I was there walking around for over an hour admiring everything lol! They have events and workshops and even for kids too which is super cool. I'll be back for more soon.

You can easily spend hours browsing through their amazing plant selection. Fair prices, friendly and knowledgeable staff. BUT, I have had to return tropical plants on three different occasions due to a pest infestation, which is a nuisance and also poses a risk to my existing indoor plants. Make sure you inspect the plants thoroughly before purchasing!

This didn't happen to me, but I saw it happen right beside me today. There was a large cart with new plants in it and the whole cart was wrapped in clear plastic. The cart was placed in the middle of an aisle along with their regular merchandise. There were 2 ladies looking at the plants in this cart, and a staff passed by and very curtly told these ladies that the plants in the cart are not for sale, that they belong to another location. The ladies quickly replied, trying to be lighthearted, saying they were just admiring the plants. The staff replied in an increasingly annoyed tone asking the ladies to step away from the cart because "things have gone missing before". I couldn't believe what I was hearing, it was so rude and accusatory. If you don't want people to go near the plants, don't put the cart in the middle of the aisle where customers walk, don't wrap it in clear plastic, and maybe put a sign on it. Don't take out frustrations on customers for a situation you created.

Today I went to Burnaby Store. An employee didn't allow me to go in the store, she didn't approve my face cover mask. I explained her I have a medical condition , but she didn't care. I felt very disappointed because is clearly garden works don’t care about people, you guys are very close mind. Nice selection and prices, however, brought a ZZ plant home that turned out to have a Spider Mite infection. Within 48 hours, ALL of our plants were infected. We are pretty new to the plant game in my house, so when we picked the healthiest-lookinh ZZ plant but saw a bit of spider web on it we asked about it and were told that it's probably just a spider harnlessly living there. After repotting we saw more and more silky webbing and did some research. Treated that plant but found all 6 of our houseplants with severe spider mite infections a couple days later. That's unacceptable if you ask me. Approach with caution.

The Nelson location is a really lovely spot to get lost in gardening heaven and have delicious breakfast or afternoon cappuccino in the restaurant. Perhaps inside on a rainy day beside the fireplace or outdoors enjoying the plants, sun and birds.

Very good selection of plants but the Burnaby location has more selection, especially for soil. Ended up going to that location afterwards. Not very many staff on hand to answer questions but there were some friendly staff members there. They sell fish and they leave them in an empty blue plastic bin (with flowing water) which was very disheartening and upsetting. Some children got a staff member to check on them because they thought one was dead. It wouldn't surprise me if that happens often as these fish are given no stimulation or anything natural.. Let alone being bred for ponds, which I am against. They only had one kind of rose bush so if you want selection I would go to the Burnaby location. They also sell garden party clothing and furniture.. Which I found odd.

My happy place! Easy enough to spend a few hours here if you’re a plant lover! The early summer selection of trees and shrubs in the outside courtyard is unmatched. So many different varieties all well labeled for their preferred environment (shaded, full sun), etc. I went for the Japanese Maples and was blown away by all the choices, as well as variety of price ranges to fit within your budget. I’m looking forward to heading back soon!

One of the biggest selections of garden materials in the Vancouver area! A vast array of trees, flowers, garden plants, and materials. It's definitely worth your while to stop by during the Christmas season as well, because their holiday display is stellar! If you're specifically looking for bonsai materials, they do have pumice and lava rock to make your soil, but they do not have akadama clay - only orchid clay balls.

GardenWorks is such a beautiful hidden gem! Every single staff are so kind. Except that manager Kathryn who gave a rude tongue-lashing to a new staff for telling us about Customer Appreciation Day. The variety of plants are huge, and the venue is humongous. It's been a landmark of the Holdom area for 30 years. There is also a rogue tabby cat wandering around. ???? The only thing I don't like (besides that manager) is the price. I would easily give GardenWorks 5 stars, AND come every week of they lower their price. It's not affordable, even with CA day. Overall, it's still a lovely place with spectacular interior design and arrangements. It feels like I'm in a rainforest. In fact it's like I'm on an island. Come here if you're looking for any plant! The staff are lovely and can help with anything.

Having an exhaustive collection of plants and gardening supplies, GardenWorks can be a one stop shop for your flora needs. The site itself is very large consisting of an indoor building, a covered area, and an outdoor space, all chalk full of anything you may require thats in season, including an extensive shop with decorating paraphernalia, seeds, and occasionally some food! All the areas are well labeled and organized, with a knowledgeable and generally helpful staff if you can steal their attention away from tending to the plant residents. If you transit over, transporting goods can be difficult and cumbersome because there is a bit of walk, but if youre commuting via your own vehicle, than problems shouldnt be expected. Very happy with the large selection of plants available, though price can be iffy since the cost is perhaps higher than popup plant markets or other competitors. All in all, a solid bet for those wanting to quickly and efficiently collect whats in mind.

Lots of plant options and the plants are beautiful but the employees are not trained properly. I told the lady I was looking for plants which are safe for cats and she suggested a Peace Lily. Quick Google search determined that was a lie : lilies are extremely poisonous to cats. Then the lady at the cash made several mistakes while scanning the articles and clearly had no idea what she was doing. She was rough with the plants and didn't know anything about the plants she was scanning. She had to ask for help several times and it took us about 20 minutes before we could pay and leave.

The price of plants is pretty higher than other places but the quality and freshness is high. Suggested to go there even for visiting and make your soul fresh. I have never been treated so badly by a manager before. Never coming here again and telling everyone I know not to either. The employyes are all lovely but the manager is selfish and rude. I left in absolute tears. Why? Because he said he would lose money for selling (yes I was BUYING them along with my other plants) leaves that had naturally fallen off succulents I'm just a kid who doesn't like the big succulents but I’m willing to pay for the tiny leaves the fall off so I can put them in the soil to grow babies. A lot of them die anyways but it is fun for me. After treating me like I wasn't a customer, he said that only today but never again. This I respected because I can go to any other garden store and they’re all lovely and understanding about it. HE WANTED TO CHARGE ME $5 or more per leaf. I was shocked. How can you be so cold hearted and selfish? Never getting my money again. I used to come here frequently with my mother. I left all of my plants utterly heartbroken and in tears.

Imagine if you drove somewhere and the only parking spot was super awkward and not even a real parking spot. Spend a few dollars and get a good solid bike rack please!

Absolutely one of the best place to host a preschoolers birthday party! Attentive staff that leads the kids to create an unique garden project to take home. So there was much sweating but the kids were oozing with creative juices during a full two hours. Love that we can bring our own food and clean-up is taken care of too!

Generally I've had good experiences and the cashiers are always very friendly. However on my latest visit, I got a glance at poor customer service. There was a small elderly woman who had filled bags of soil and needed help. Turns out the cashier told her that one of the front outside staff can help her carry the bags of self-serve soil into her car but when she relayed this to the front staff (1 middled aged man and a younger man), they kept saying it's self-serve and didn't offer her any help. Look, I get that it's self-serve however this elderly woman was told otherwise and couldn't physically lift the bags of soil. She already filled the bags up and paid for them. The kind and decent thing would've been for the staff to just help her but the two men just stood there with their arms crossed. It wasn't busy and they weren't preoccupied with any other tasks at that time. My partner and I ended up helping the elderly woman with her bags of soil.

GardenWorks is where I would go whenever I needed to refresh my mind from work and other things, especially during this pandemic. I loved how every staff there was so knowledgeable and kind enough to help this beginner gardener. One young staff who worked mainly in the tropical area even offered to help me with potting service! (which I did not know existed). Due to this wonderful experience, I often visited to gift my friends with these beautiful plants. However, today I experienced something different. I visited GardenWorks to plant some lettuces and herbs, and since it was my first time to plant anything edible, I needed some assistance with the soils. Remembering the great service GardenWorks had, I asked the herb section lady for help potting. She showed me the sign that states they cannot pot anything that was BROUGHT FROM HOME. I also thought this was fair and a great policy to have. Thus, I purchased the pot from the GardenWorks and asked if she can help me then. But, she refused to say they don't provide that service anymore. She even brought her colleague to confirm. I admitted it and went to the cashier to pay and talked to the cashier that it's a pity that GardenWorks don't provide that service anymore. However, I got a different response from her. She was kind enough to bring me to the station and brought this wonderful person named Peter who helped me so much with potting and detailed instructions! I understand everyone is stressed and sensitive during this period, but it makes me sad that this wonderful place where I came for refreshment turned into a stressful experience. I hope the instructions are clear to every staff so that there won't be any of these confusions to other customers.

This place has everything. I go for plants to enhance my otherwise dreary balcony. There is a small, but very pricey cafe. Jewelry and women's clothing and accessories. Patio furniture, ponds and koi fish. Every type of tree you could want. Go close to Christmas this is a virtual wonderland of anything you can need to decorate your home in the grandest style. Very knowledgeable staff. Go during the week. Saturday and Sunday are insane. Parking those days is at a premium. Join the membership program. It will earn you points that can save you money on your purchases.

This is my wife's favourite store. All staff is very friendly and helpful, we got some useful tips on managing a Crabapple sapling we purchased. There's an excellent variety of annuals and perennials and lots of vegetables to choose from. Also there are a ton of options for those wanting to start plants from seed.

So... Say you're somebody with a garden and maybe you know little about plants. This is the place you want to go. There are folks here who know more about plants than anyone reasonably should. The selection is massive with incredible variety from tropicals to stuff that will.survive the worst conditions. Want dirt? They've got bulk. Also bulk mulch, manure... Have I said enough? One stop gardening. Awesome.

I called to see if they had a Raven ZZ in stock and the guy who answered said they did and that he'd keep one for me. When I got there later that day, I couldn't help but notice that the one he'd set aside happened to be the best looking one out of all the Ravens I could see on display. I was so pleasantly surprised and happy because it cost a pretty penny for me. Thank you my man. The tropicals here are always looking fresh and healthy. Some days will have better selections than others, but it makes sense as they're always busy and high-demand plants can fly off the shelves. One thing I have noticed consistently with every visit is that quite a few plants upon inspection have some spider mites, thrips, or scale. Never anything close to an infestation, but enough for me to notice a few crawlers. It's understandable; I get that it's difficult to keep things 100% pest-free in a large store with hundreds of plants. When buying, just make sure you inspect the specific plant you pick up and try to find one that doesn't have anything visibly crawling on them.

This is the second year we have done our daughter's birthday party at Garden Works, Lougheed Highway. Jesselin, who facilitates the party, is just amazing with children of the various ages. She keeps them busy with stories, questions and games. She fully keeps them engaged in the store. Moreover, we do come there quite often to either pick up plants, our trees, and just to walk through your location. We have found the staff quite friendly and helpful each time. We look forward to our next visit to see your Christmas display.

I love their selection of plants and I like the variety of items available, I also love that there is always something that pulls you into the festiveness of whatever season you are in. It is very clear that a lot of time goes into creating an inviting space. I love wandering around as there is always so much to see and never enough plants to buy. More then anything their customer service is what sparked this review. Every time I am there I am met with the nicest, warmest people who are very friendly. Even the people I don't have interactions with seem to really enjoy working there. Looking forward to my next trip :)

Good selection of plants, quite crowded so avoid the weekend. Difficult to find someone to help you if you have questions about plants. Otherwise staff are friendly and very, very helpful if you can get a hold of someone! Also, plants are more expensive than other shops so I wasn't happy bringing home aphids and gnats (herbs). Make sure you check to see if there are bugs growing on them. I live in a high-rise so I don't think these bugs came from a neighbour...

Yes there are cheaper plants elsewhere but Gardenworks takes back dead and dying plants without question. Try that at Home Depot, you won't get another plant or store credit of a refund there!
