Been doing many reno’s on our home and have unfortunately had to come here many times. (When our preferred Home Depot doesn’t have what we need in stock). I hate coming every time. Everything costs more, it all seems very disorganized, and it takes FOREVER to get what you need. The lumber yard layout is frustrating and time consuming and we often have to return to exchange damaged boards. Overall just a very strange vibe. .

I bought a drain opener product called "One Second Plumber" As I was using it the nozzle on the can broke. I took it back to Home Hardware today, January 13th. and was told by the man on " customer service" that it broke because it was left in my car because the can was cold. He didn't wait for me to explain it broke Monday and was left in the car Monday night so I could return it Tuesday. The cold had nothing to do with it breaking. The two cashiers at the front were not busy and I asked them to throw the can and receipt away for me. I would like to say the customer service by the man at "Customer Service" needs to take a customer service course before he rudely says its my fault the can malfunctioned. I will not return to this store ever again and will make sure all my friends and neighbors go elsewhere too. If you sell a product stand by it, maybe that's why family owned businesses are going out of business.

My experience at this store has always been pleasant. The staff is experienced in the products they sell. The selection is decent and the prices are competitive especially when considering the size of competitors operations. I have been able to find things here that are not sold by the other big box stores believe it or not. The only reason I can't give 5 stars whole heartedly would be the hit and miss cell phone and internet reception within the store. This should be fixed so people can compare prices while they are there (maybe price match or just see you guys have the better deals to begin with). Also we could check product availibility and have a clue to bring to the staff when we make inquiries rather than be shocked they can't read our mind within 15 seconds of approaching them. As far as the hand sanitizer debacle, I'm neutral. Sanitize is the lowest level of clean, disinfection is better , and honestly some people should be sterile. If you dont like the price dont buy it, if it was $2 someone would buy the whole lot and resell it for more dough anyway, that price was only to keep the vultures out. For me it didnt take a pandemic to realize to wash my hands, I've been doing it for years with bars of soap and everything. Also rather than get upset about the toilet paper situation elsewhere just know that home hardware also sells inexpensive Bidet attachments that can hook up to your existing toilet and can reduce toilet paper use by 80% or more. That's not just good for your wallet it's also good for your plumbing and your house plumbing as well! Just know that these guys are actually a part of our community, the store and all the employees. I believe that the people handing out these 1 star ratings are actually giving us a window into their soul and that if mountains were moved for them they would still want more. They are users, when they get everything they want they stick around to gorge. Any scent of compromise or concession and they 1 star and run to the next prey. My heart goes out to their spouse and next of kin, bless your hearts. This store has a soul. It's the physical incarnation of Red Green and sometimes if you walk to the back and stand near the hardware desk then listen carefully you can hear the wind through the duct work and duct tape whisper the words... "if you can't fix it yourself, its probabally not worth fixing"

I just visited this location to get more detail on the Stihl servicing they've been advertising in front of the store for some months. My preferred dealer sadly has closed their doors, and I was eager to find another. When asking about the services and pricing, I was met with two very abrupt, short spoken gentleman at the customer service desk. Failing to look me in the eyes, answering sharply and giving an impression of general annoyance. This is in stark contrast to the Robinson and United locations, both at which I've had wonderful experiences. Further, the young staff at Robinsons are some of the most courteous young employees I've had the pleasure of dealing with. The folks at the Allendale service desk could learn a thing or two. Additionally, I'd like to echo some of the other comments here and mention that the particularly unpleasant older gentleman wasn't wearing a face mask either. I will be taking my Stihl service needs elsewhere as a result of this most unpleasant interaction. Stacy S

FACT: Dropped off screen to get repaired. Told 10 days max for repair. Went in 2 weeks later and asked if it was ready - response from older gentleman - "Did we call you?"... no. "Then it's not ready - next time make sure you call before coming in". Thanks! Horrible service every single time I go into this store. Have your staff go up to Lowe's and get trained by people who are friendly and helpful. I try to support smaller business first - but won't be back to this place.

We had our kitchen completely renovated with the help of Home Hardware and their wonderful designer. I wanted an all white kitchen that was both elegant and timeless. Also, since we would be in our house for many years to come it had to be made from quality materials to withstand the test of time. That's exactly what I got. Meghan, the designer, came out to our home, took notes on my likes, dislikes, must haves etc, and came back shortly with a perfect design which made my kitchen look more spacious, better organized and gorgeous. We went with cabinets from Cabico and a counter from Cambria. The flooring, back splash tile and cabinet hardware was also supplied by HH. I really appreciated Meghan's attention to detail, her experience, honest advice and professionalism. She coordinated the labour, tracked all material orders, monitored progress and handled any unforeseen surprises. Meghan also made sure that the kitchen design complimented the rest of our home. I truly could not do this without her. I love everything about my kitchen. It was a pleasure renovating with Allandale HH and Meghan. Thank you!

Around 2012 the Manager/owner was a real treat to deal with. I was complaining to him over the phone when he challenged me to come down to the store to fight him. Seriously. What kind of person challenges you to come to the store to fight because he gets frustrated with you. So unprofessional. One of their products damaged my sink and I was only calling to say there should be a warning on the label and the guy lost his mind. I've never been back.

What once was a great store to shop, is no longer. Customer service has suffered. Employees are not interested in helping answer questions. We have gone to the store twice in one week, and both times the service was very poor. A few days ago we went looking for an advertised air conditioner. The employee was rude and was reluctant to help. He made a comment that "we don't carry everything that is advertised in the flyer". It was as if we were a bother just asking. The message was fine, it's the delivery of it that was not. On today's visit, several men were standing around the counter, and when asked the response was "well you'll be looking around a long time because we do not carry that ". Then, out of no where the employee made a unwelcome comment about us not having to wear a face mask. That being said, in two days, it will be mandatory to wear face masks in public areas. Not one employee was wearing a mask and cashiers had only face shields. Disappointed to see their lack of responsibility to this public health emergency or the idea that this man had the nerve to make any comment. Whether you personally believe in masks, it is the wearer's decision to do so and no business of anyone else. We then took out business to another Home Hardware in the east end of Barrie and the staff were great. They did not have the item in, but offered to order it in, ensuring us we would even receive the advertised price. Incidently, all staff seen were wearing face masks. We will not be back here. Sad, as a long standing local business, we will go elsewhere. Obviously they learned nothing after the hand sanitizer fiasco a few months ago. Customers are not the priority at this store.

Don't waste you time. As a contractor, I found the plumbing and electrical dept. to be lacking in the most basic supplies, the tools are mostly cheap Chinese products, the lumber yard is slow and often out of stock in popular lumber, and they almost only have one cashier with long line ups. You will be very disappointed, and will end up having to go to Home Depot , Lowe's or Rona anyway for the rest of what you need. More of a seller of housewares that a "Hardware" store.

The cashiers seemed nice but when I asked for help from the hardware desk the older gentleman who was standing around talking with another employee basically just pointed to the aisle and said look there . And then continued with his conversation. The employees have always been rude at this location but what got me most was as a rogers customer there is no cell service . I had to go outside 4 times in the middle of winter to call my husband. I will be going to Home Depot from now on for all my home needs . I do not recommend this store . This is 2020 who doesn’t have cell service in the middle of a city.

We had a great experience at this location with Ingrid. We originally had our product set aside so it would be fast and efficient once we reached the store itself. When we arrived, the product rep was on lunch, and I had used my own lunch time from work to coordinate this pick up. I want to send out a BIG thank you to the folks at Allandale Home Building Centre! I had a major plumbing problem occur in my house which resulted in a no water situation. I called my friendly plumber Kim Beaney for help. Unfortunately, there was a special tool required for the repair that Kim did not have available and stores were already closed for the day. Fortunately, he was able to get in touch with Adam, the owner of Allandale Home Hardware Building Centre. Adam made a special trip to open up his store after it had already closed for the day, so that we could get the tool we needed for the repair! Now THAT'S what I call great customer service. I can't shop here anymore...in the forseeable future. They do the absolute minimum for Covid 19 protection. A number of employees don't wear masks, under the guise of "medical exemptions". Seriously, if your breathing is so compromised that you can't wear a simple non-surgical mask then you should be walking around with an O2 bottle. The science is clear - a non surgical mask reduces your breathing a ridiculously small fraction. Also the cashiers, without masks, have the plexiglass shields and think that protects them and the customers, as if the airborne water droplets magically don't swirl around them! Good grief, people need to do some more REAL scientific research.

No answer all morning, then when I tried to walk in to order I was told I had to keep trying on the phone. As a contractor there isn't always hours to spend on the phone or to wait, something as simple as a bundle of shims was to much for this store to handle. I will not be back during or after covid times as they are clearly overwhelmed.

Very helpful. They helped me decide that the big box store is the way to go. I was unable to use the HH site to place my order. It continually crashed. Some of the items were only in store availability so I could not even place it in the cart. Also, they are a Stihl dealer and there is absolutely nothing on their site about that product. While the website is not this stores problem what happened next is. Upon arriving at the store, since there isn't a chance of getting through(trust me I tried, there isn't even a voicemail box), I was greeted by the least friendliest staff members I have ever seen. Now this is based on 2 visits in the past week. I gave her the benefit of the doubt the first week. She asked me to provide item numbers(which I had saved to my phone, well, most of them since their site, see above, kept crashing) this paragon of great customer service proceeded to walk by me twice. When I questioned why she was ignoring, her eye roll and a wave of her hand was enough to put me on tilt. I would have loved to support local so I drove to the bayfield store. Sadly, they did not have my items there, but what they did have is friendly staff outside, a phone number that actually gets you to a voicemail where a staff member called me back fairly promptly. This staff member was also pleasant to deal with. Take a trip to the north end people, until this location decides to appreciate the customers they have, they don't deserve our business.

Aisles are really narrow, the store is so quiet it's actually uncomfortable to walk through as it feels like a library. I learned today when shopping at this local HH, that COVID is not a priority of this store. A customer was without one and the clerk, wearing a poorly homemade mask, said they were told by management that it was okay not to wear a mask. So this store would prefer to not enforce this rule for one instead of protecting the safety of the rest of the customers. Beware when shopping here.
