Seafood chowder was great, veggie burger a bit small but delicious. High quality homemade food
Extraordinary chowder !!!! Excellent service.
Went 2 nights in a row.First night was fantastic. Service was great food delicious. Second night service was not as expected, my guess is they were short staffed or novice servers. I will definitely go again.
Great fresh food and friendly service.
The best food I had on the Cabot trail. Small cozy restaurant with some really nice waterfront views. Open kitchen so watch as the magic happens . The food was exquisite, the carrot cake was absolutely divine and came highly recommended by the table next to me , it did not disappoint! I was there on a Monday evening in September and it was packed with people waiting outside! Prepare your taste buds for a feast of flavours!
Some of the best food and beer I’ve had in life. We had trouble finding satisfactory scallops on Cape Breton Island but finally after a week we found them here! I also. Had a burger which was one of the best I’ve had. Thank you Freight Shed!
After a wait to get a table, this restaurant did not disappoint. The food was excellent, the server friendly and efficient and the owner made us feel welcome and important. It is located dockside, is a converted freight shed with tables surrounding the open kitchen or on the patio. Our party of four had Caesar salads, green salads and fish chowder. We all enjoyed the meal very much.
Food was nice and its a bit pricy .
If breakfast is your favourite meal, don’t miss this spot. Wow… what a great idea it was to stop here for breakfast. The pancakes are off the charts - super fluffy and tasty, they are simply divine. And the lobster scramble - equally yummy. Great service from Cheyenne, all the staff here are friendly. Located on the water, sit outside if you can. Such a great spot. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED ????
Great food; friendly attentive staff. Made for a great end to a long day, and a fantastic start to a wonderful evening.
Great food, very cozy. Limited space, fills up fast on a Saturday night. Good amount of food for your money. I had the lobster roll, fabulous.
Great stop!
Great tasting and healthy food options. We went in for lunch on a busy summer vacation day, parking was a problem and we had to park quite far off from the restaurant, but other than that everything else was done to perfection. We ordered Clam Chowder, Salmon and Cheese Burger. Everything was made to perfection and tasted awesome. They also have desserts which are not mentioned on their menu. We Ordered the choclate, peanut butter & fudge cake, which was a combination of all of those ingredients with a cheese cake like texture, it was amazing. 5 starts for the whole experience.
Fantastic food. Beautiful view.
One of our favourite restaurants in Baddeck. Nice cozy atmosphere in the old freight shed on the government wharf. The breakfast is the best and the coconut blueberry pancakes are a MUST try! Those alone are 5????! Friendly service as always!!
Excellent sea food and other dishes, local wine and beer, friendly service, and agreeable prices.
Friendly staff, amazing meals for everyone in our group. The scallops were perfectly done, the veggie wrap was amazing, along with a great salad.
Amazing food. Excellent service. Great atmosphere
The food was good, seafood was fresh and tasty. However, the waitress was not nice and friendly. We were waiting for a longtime for the menu and we waited again for desert menu which she didn’t tell us there is no desert menu even though she knew we wanted dessert. Based on her performance, we tip her 15%. She throw the receipt on the table.
We had a real great dinner there. You can have seafood and vegetarian meals there. Both are excellent!
One of the best garden salads I've ever had and amazing crab cakes. 100% would return!
Had the mussels and the chowder bowl. Omg. Best mussels I've ever had! And the chowder was delightful with big chunks of seafood and delicious rolls. Stop here!
Slow service. Prices are expensive. Food is good healthy cooking.
I’ve never been so happy eating pancakes in my life. If you’re on the Cabot trail coming through Baddeck, you can’t miss this place! Beautiful by the waterfront and top notch food and service.
Awesome food on an awesome evening on the wharf.
This has an understated elegant industrial chic decor - a kind of place where jeans and ball caps are next to suits and ties and neither is out of place. My sweetheart had: lobster roll and salad (that he still raving about) I had the apricot jam, jalapeno havarti & brie grilled cheese with winter squash soup and for as much as my sweetheart scoffed when he heard me order a grilled cheese is equal to how much he apologised later for scoffing. We shared a piece of carrot cake (the chef's special recipe) our wait-staff told us with a big smile. We make two of these every day during the summer and one day during the off season.
Super tiny place with open kitchen right on the water. Food was amazing! Our group tried the chowder (so thick with seafood you could have eaten it with a fork), lobster roll (excellent), mussels (a huge portion, I almost couldn't get through it, and the sauce was to die for). It was so good we came back for dinner the very next night: scallops (in my top 3 scallops I've had while travelling) and haddock (also very good but I'm running out of adjectives). Beer selection was great too, a selection from Big Spruce Brewery just up the road.
enjoyed lunch on the dockside - be sure to visit the Pirate!
Lovely view. Food was just okay and service was a bit slow.
The seafood chowder was the worst I had while visiting NS, the specialty cocktail I tried tasted like limp fruit juice, the cod was uninspired, the view was great. Guess we paid for a view.
Wonderful food and service. This is our third time visiting Baddeck and the restaurant. We will keep coming back!!
Amazing atmosphere and the food was top notch! Best place to eat in Cape Breton!
Enjoyed eating here twice last week. Outstanding menu and amazing meals. First time visiting, I had haddock with roasted potatoes and side vegetables. All was perfectly done and portion was excellent. Followed with in-house made carrot cake. Words escape me to try to describe the cake. Absolutely amazing! Later in the week, I enjoyed the Ruben sandwich. By far the best ever! Service was great and friendly staff. Looking forward to visiting again. Highly recommended.
People are not kidding about how badly managed the service is. Waited in line for over 30 min, then sat at our table and completely ignored for another 35 min. We had to get up and ask for someone to serve us. we expressed our concern about the wait and were told "not my fault and it will be another 40 minutes before any food arrives". We left and got pizza.
Delicious. Try the lobster scrambled eggs and their signature Caesar
Pretty average, really long wait until the food comes. Options are very limited and not that great (for the money) even though they look fancy
Very disappointed, terrible service
We loved it here, we got the rueben and fancy grilled cheese and they were both amazing. Their soup of the day was also really good and the drinks were lovely. Service was good; friendly and welcoming staff.
Stopped in after driving the Cabot trail. Place was very busy, but the service was prompt and the Seafood Linguine was very good. They have a nice variety of local craft beer on tap, and the patio and view of the lake put it over the top. Highly recommmend.
Great spot and delicious but deadly pancakes.
Ordered the lobster roll and side salad for takeout. The roll was served on what looked like a hot dog bun. After hearing all the great reviews, we had pretty high hopes but were let down with this meal. However, the side salad itself was quite good. Service for takeout was also around 20 minutes ????
I was absolutely grateful for them being open ,everything was perfect for a great Baddeck experience, food was done perfectly, service was second to none ,.Just a great place to stop in Baddeck!!
Best food in Baddeck !! Go without hesitation! The mussels are just really good , great microbrewery beer , great salad . Refreshing after all the deep fried seafoods all too common around the east coast ! Keep it up , we will be back tomorrow night !!
New spot on the Baddeck waterfront. Location location location.! We enjoyed a good family meal. The Freight Shed has an upmarket decor but is a family owned business and has a great community vibe. We bought some Xmas wreaths after commending the decor. A local wreath maker lives just down the road. They set us up for purchase. Then two tables over bought some mini lights to decorate them with from another friendly local.. Now this is the way to do business- over a fine meal. Jp (InternerdX) Boudreau
Top notch seafood available here...
Great place. A little tight. Be prepared to wait a little as it's popular Saturday nights (I'd encourage them to stay open a little later Saturday nights as quite a few groups were turned away or left without getting a table). I had lobster roll which was really good. My wife had the black bean burger which was quite good and tasty and our son had the burger which he loved. I had a local beer (big spruce red ale?) and ordered a second... Something I never do. Great view as well as it's right on the harbour. Beautiful atmosphere. Love the open ceiling.
Good spot for a drink and dinner
Best mussles and wonderful waitress.
Excellent food, try the crab cakes or lobster roll. Great service!
Got seafood chowder and a lobster roll. Both were really good! Chowder was nice and creamy, and the roll had a good amount of lobster.
Server Cheyenne made our special night even more special. Thank you Cheyenne.
Food was awesome but unfortunately i think the staff was a little overwhelmed and our table was forgotten! Otherwise an amazing location and great Lobster roll!
If you only have one dish order the chowder. Best chowder I've ever had. Beer and wine selection is very good.
Awesome food, great views.
Best gourmet grilled cheese sandwich I have ever had hands down! Lovely little place by the docks with nice decor. Service was quick.
Beautiful setting, nice service
fantastic place, very busy great food, worth the wait! Location couldn't be more on the water without being a boat. Salad and Lobster roll were fantastic! Service was wonderful
Supper was amazing! Everything was cooked to perfection and very tasty and well presented! I will be back and definitely recommend this place.
(Translated) excellent restaurant (Original) excellent resto
A wonderful restaurant right off the warf in Baddeck. It came in as a recommendation to eat for supper. When looking on the outside it is a simple view, making the food the spotlight. I had the steamed mussels, and my wife had pan fried haddock. Both were cooked to perfection, not a second overcooked. The mussels were rich with a creamy garlic and butter sauce. The haddock light and full of wonderful flavour. While it is a small area and it can be busy it is worth the wait if you are able to get in.
Amazing food and great staff.
Loved the atmosphere, food and location!
Good food. Excellent seafood soup, lobster rolls.
Busy place and not too many tables so be prepared to wait a bit. Service was good. It is pricey but it is good food.
We each started with a cup of chowder and were delighted with how good it was. Then we ordered a lobster roll and an order of scallops to split. Both were awesome. Bottom line, if you're not sure where to go in town, this should be the first place you try. Confirmed by many locals too!
No line up. Over heard staff saying usually its an hour wait. Had the soup special and loaded nachos. If you like toppings on your nachos, thats place to get them with that special. Wow. Great staff with quick service.
Good food, nice selections, great carrot cake, and a nice location on the “baddeck waterfront”.
Wicked chowder and burger.
Burger was awesome!
Tremendous place. Great food not just more of the same of Cape Breton food.
This is THE place to eat at when in Baddeck, nothing else we tried comes even close!
Excellent food, great location!
the chowder was really tasty. . the haddock was alright.
Space is interesting, food was good. Very small seating area, we were at the bar, able to watch the chefs cook dinners. More description is required for the menu, what I ordered was not what was expected. It was delicious, but I had no idea what the sauce over the fish was; fish was fried in an egg dip.y dining partner had a lovely burger and salad. Outdoor patio area looked lovely.
Great food. Nice staff. A bit on the pricey side.
Wow, wow, wow. The food was amazing. My husband and I started with the mussels. We're shared 54 mussels in this to die for sauce. Then we shared our mains. The seared scallops are out of this world and the other main was a walnut cranberry encrusted halibut. All washed down with local beer and wine. Well that was a meal to remember in Baddeck, Nova Scotia.
The food is amazing. Staff is very friendly they make it feel like stopping at your favorite relative for supper. Great decor it was a little chilly but that added to the charm of the old shed. My wife and I have a new favorite spot to eat when in Cape Breton.
Nice
The lobster roll and salad were delicious. Great decor and really nice staff. I went for dinner, but breakfast/lunch would be ???? on the patio at the marina facing East.
So happy we stumbled across this restaurant. Food was great, atmosphere was fantastic, service was above average and price was reasonable. Definitely recommend if you're in town!
Had dinner here yesterday and it was a very pleasant experience. The wind was chilly, so nobody was earing outside but we had a nice little table next to the window to enjoy the views. The staff were friendly and efficient and the food delicious. I had the crab cakes which were some of the best I have tasted - No filling or packing, just full of crabmeat and beautifully cooked. The dressing on the house salad, full of toasted walnuts, was lovely too. My husband had the salmon and enjoyed his meal. They do not take reservations and seating is more limited due to the Covid restrictions but it was worth the short wait.
Food is average, very overpriced but you have to expect that based on its location. If your looking for a sit down meal in a packed resturant bunping elbows with the table next to you come here. If your looking for really good food, walk 40' to the legion next door and enjoy some stand and stuff.
This is a fantastic place. We sat outside and watch the sun going down with all the boats around us. Newport RI? Nope. Nova Scotia
Great location, fantastic service, awesome good and reasonable prices!
One of the best Reubens I've had in Nova Scotia. Beautiful view.
Dinner was so good we came back for breakfast
Had the Seared Scallops. Wow. Fantastic taste of the east coast. Veggies were also well prepared and delicious. Excellent stop in as we embarked on the Cabot trail. Would highly recommend!!!
Wonderful location. Attentive staff. The gourmet grilled cheese was spot on and the nachos were well constructed. The chocolate lava cake was good but was not served hot so it was more like a chocolate ganache cake.
Awesome food, service was great, seems like a popular place lineups and to get in on the weekend. The atmosphere was great, and the patio outside is a really nice water view, great along with your food. Will definitely be coming back here next time in Baddeck.
(Translated) Delicious food that is a change from the usual frying. 100% crab crab cakes. Selection of local beers. (Original) Nourriture délicieuse qui fait changement de la friture usuelle. Des crab cake 100% crabe. Sélection de bières locales.
This place is fabulous. Great food. Not too pricey. Wonderful atmosphere
Nice looking place inside with a great view. Service was friendly though at times the servers cheeriness felt a little overdone. Food was only okay for the price hence the rating. I ordered the scallops and they were the saving grace of the meal. My roast potatoes were dry and the grilled veggies were bland and quite oily. My friend did not enjoy her soup and said it was very bland, while the grilled cheese sandwich was very greasy and the type of cheese used didn’t compliment the jam. Overall, maybe there are better things to eat there, but it didn’t impress me much.
Our family of five enjoyed dinner on the scenic patio here. We sampled multiple dishes and really loved all of them. They don't take reservations but the stay stream of people were seated efficiently enough. Looking forward to coming back!
The food here was delicious and the waitress was very kind! My only suggestion would be to more clearly mark vegan options on the menu. But wow, this soup was fantastic!
Beautiful setting with nice smoked salmon on bagel.
Great food and the hospitality was great too
The lobster roll is delusionally tiny for $30: came in what looked like a hot dog bun.
Great black bean burger. Ask for it with hummus instead of mustard /ketchup /mayo... Awesome flavour.
Loved this place! Chowder and ceasar salad were amazing as was the lobster roll. Save room for the carrot cake....probably the best we've ever had!!
The food here was delicious. It does get quite busy here so I suggest coming early. The location was beautiful and the place had a really nice modern design.
It's worth the wait
Great seafood chowder. Beautiful location.
I'm so mixed about this place. The service was a tad slow on a busy summer evening- that's ok but something to note. The mussels were outstanding (but a tad salty). The salads were very good and fresh. The fish chowder was good- lots of chunks of fish. The crab cakes had a nice bite to them. I hate that you're on the water but there's no outside seating or a view from inside. That has nothing to do with the food but again, something to note. It is wheelchair accessible. The staff is friendly.
Fantastic food and service. Just don't be in a hurry.
Best NS burger!
So charming and warm service. Food was delicious. Get the grilled cheese!!!
We had lobster roll and Montreal smoked beef sandwich and both were delicious! The place is cozy with amazing staff. Will definitely go back again!
Totally robbed me with that lobster roll with tiny bits of lobster meat but overall I think this place was neat! I will go back to have that grilled cheese and pancakes.
The food is 5 stars. Service excellent!! They were very accommodating for my food allergies to.
Throughly disappointed, overpriced (6 $0.25 sized scallops for over $25, the "gourmet" cheese sandwich isnt worth itand extremely small portions for take out...I hope the dine in experience is much better. Saved by server Daphne's bubbly personality
My wife loved the food, but I ordered the crab cakes. They were so small it could have fallen in my eye and I wouldn't know it and they were very salty. The accompanying salad was delicious.
Great food. Had the Reuben and Ceasar salad, very tasty. My wife had the burger. She loved it. Chef Will Antle is definitely one of the good ones!
Nachos were bussin.
I had a hamburger there and it was amazing! They use real meat and the patties are so thick and delicious! They have tons of other good meal options as well! You should check it out
Wow what a great find. Wandered town for a while and glad we found here. Great mussels.. great salad and even better fish. We'll be back here!!
Wonderful place great staff great food
This place was fine. The view was amazing, the pancakes were good, and the Western sandwich wasn't great. Service was slow. Super overpriced for the experience we got.
Great place for sea food and local craft beer. Enjoyed the place and staff was great.
Fantastic place! Both breakfast and dinner were superb. I especially appreciated that in a town full of Keith's Light, they had three kinds of local beer (Big Spruce Brewery, all very good). Very friendly, and a nice atmosphere.
Food was fantastic, the atmosphere is fun and upbeat and our server, Jasmine, was incredible. A highlight of our mini staycation.
If you want to go for lunch, I'd suggest showing up on the early side. When we arrived we were seated quickly (table for 2) on the patio, with our order taken in a reasonable amount of time. Prices are a little high, but the food was good, and the view of the pier was worth it. The mussels were very good, with a simple butter sauce and scallions. Once it was time to pay, it took a while to get our bill/to wait for the machine due to the place filling up, but waiting after a meal is much more tolerable than waiting for your food. A long wait line had formed by the time we left. Also, they don't take reservations. So, early lunch is probably your best bet!
How much about the food because we didn't eat here but the location can't be beat right on the pier. The menu looked good, we just weren't hungry at the time
Nice variety on the menu and great views from every seat. The place is a bit warm on hot days as I feel it isn’t properly ventilated. Still some air blowing in off he water but not enough. Friendly staff and great mussels.
Best hamburger yet in Cape Breton!
Large portion of blueberry coconut pancakes was delicious. If you don't have a large appetite, share this with somebody.
Wonderful place to eat, great surroundings, friendly staff. Most importantly, the food was delicious. We ordered lobster rolls, haddock and scallops, all were perfect. The salad that comes with lobster roll is amazing! I was told it's a house dressing, so yummy...
This was the best food I have ever had at a restaurant. I am still haunted by how good it was. I am not a foodie, but I have eaten at plenty of restaurants. The chowder and lobster roll was phenomenal; the chicken on the chicken ceaser was perfect; the homemade dressing on the spring salad was superb; the burger here tasted hand made; even the grilled cheese with brie was one of the best I had had. Their seafood was amazing, but so was there landfood too. Service was extremely friendly and accommodating for the whole family. With this place right on the water, you just can't go wrong. My compliments to the chef, servers, owner.
Pretty view outside . Judgy kind of restaurant . The 30 dollars steak with parsnip was mediocre .
Fantastic food. Lovely location
Best Haddock I've had. Wife had the scallops which were superb. Cute place, but don't even think of going with a large party.
Great atmosphere. Staff was great. Food was good, however, these were the smallest mussels I have ever been served...
The owner took our order for take out, but after 40 min, we haven’t received our food. After asking for it, they told us they forgot about us and that our order was not even started. It was very disapointing and we were freezing outside. They didn’t willing to help or accomodate us in any way. Tim Hortons was unfortunately more helpful and caring.
Little gem by the water!
Neat spot right on the docks. Scallops were incredible.
Friendly service, nice dockside view, and fabulous food. What’s not to love?
Ideal fresh meal. This place is wonderful made to order fresh If you’ll like good simple local meals. Pick this place. We had scallops and crab cakes! Ideal!
The food took about an hour to be served when the restaurant was not too busy and it was overpriced for both the quantity and quality of the scallops
It is a bit small and stuffy but the staff is friendly and works hard and the drinks and food are awesome. The vegetarian options were all great.
Great burger and awesome salad. Wonder staff a beer selection. Beautiful restaurant.
This was a great dinner for my wife and I. Easily one of the best restaurants in Baddeck and has only been open for 9 weeks! Keep up the good work. Great atmosphere as well. We can't wait to go back.
Food is good. Prices can scare you back out the door though lol The hamburgers are really good (quite small though for almost 16 dollars). A hamburger costs about $16.00 which does NOT include a beverage or side. Their general salad consists of mixed lettuce only, no vegetables. The building itself is cute. It's location is great, being right on the water however, there doesn't seem to be outdoor seating to take advantage of such a location.
After a few days of seafood overdose in Nova Scotia, they still impressed me on how they prepared a haddock. Delicious!
Amazing breakfast food. Carefully prepared with tones of subtile, delicate flavors. Blueberry pancakes are simply devine. Friendly staff, cozy atmosphere. Go!!
The beer was a little expensive, but it was easily one of the best burgers I have ever had.
The best lobster roll on the east coast!
The food was delicious and the service was excellent. Reasonably priced. Highly recommend.
We had 2 nights in Baddeck and ate here both nights. Perhaps a little chaotic, but the lovely service, wonderful food and interesting local drinks make this a great place to eat. Be warned they don't take bookings so you may be faced with standing in line for 30 minutes waiting for the next table, but we found it was well worth the wait.
Over priced and to cramped
The lobster roll is delicious. My partner and I shared it as well as a chowder. They but it in half for us. The house wine is an affordable $6. The ambiance is fresh and young.
The food was fantastic. The carrot cake is perfection.
Really nice location, beautiful views of the lake, wait staff was excellent, friendly and prompt. Food (breakfast) was tasty and filling.
Great food, great service. Amazing location.
Impessive location. I love the original structure of the building. Great atmosphere
We arrived at the restaurant at around 8-ish in the evening, and the restaurant was scheduled to close at 9 pm. At the time we arrived, the place was full and there was quite a few parties waiting for tables. Instead of telling customers to leave like another restaurant in town, the owner was trying to seat everyone for dinner. He was extremely accommodating by even knowing he would be working later than planned. Servers were also very friendly even though they all worked later than they expected. Although it is a cozy restaurant, this place produces high quality dishes with fresh ingredient. Extremely tasty pan seared halibut crusted with toasted coconut flakes and roasted walnut in blueberry sauces. The freshness of the fish is superb and can't compare to what we have in the West. The seafood chowder that my friend had was very nicely done, it is the best seafood chowder that I have tried in the maritimes. I would definitely recommend dining at this place when in Baddeck.
Delicious food!
Everything was good until halfway through my meal, I saw a long strand of hair in my Smoked salmon bagel! I completely lost my appetite. :(
I tend to prefer a hamburger when I am at a restaurant. The meal at the Freight she'd was exceptional as was the service.
The amazing place ????☕️ We stopped with my friend for breakfast and it was incredibly delicious.
Small but the food is incredibly delicious. Wait staff was very attentive and nice, food came out quickly. Only thing is like others mention - they aren't capitalizing on the potential for an incredible view.
Great food and in a beautiful environment
Great views and service!
The Lobster Roll was a homerun, and the accompanying salad had one of the most delicious dressings I’ve ever experienced. My husband got the delicious salmon, with amazing fresh veggies including a potato cake. We split both and finished the meal with one of our favorite carrot cakes of all time. Wish we weren’t just here on holiday because we’d definitely love to return often!
Our second visit this week saw some hiccups in service. Our food was excellent and we can consider the service issues an abnormality.
Food, Location and staff are Fabulous !!!!
Okay food but really slow service, even to get the bill.
My bf and I really like the food! The “supreme grilled cheese” had me skeptical at first but i was very pleasantly surprised! The only thing was the restaurant was freezing and the waitress wasn’t the most friendly.
This modern, cozy establishment is home to what I call "Crack Cakes" or as the menu says, "Famous Blueberry Coconut Pancakes." If you decide to eat breakfast here, I oblige you to partake in a self-induced existential crisis through these wonderfully addicting cakes. Upon first bite you will repeatedly ask yourself, "Why am I here?", "What is my destiny?", "What is my meaning?" But upon your third and many bites thereafter these profound questions will be simply answered: Eat the pancakes, and never look back. As a side note, our server was fantastic and I loved the decor and music choice. 5/5 for sure!!!
(Translated) Excellent to do absolutely (Original) Excellent a faire absolument
This was a cozy place on the dock with good freshly prepared food, local beers and nice hospitality. Will not disappoint. (View from outside)
Great views while having drinks and some great food
I can see why the place was full. Excellent food, excellent service - I wish I lived close enough to become a regular!!
A bit overpriced, but one needs to consider the location. The food is very good, the service is great. True there are other places to eat, but it's certainly worth the visit. The water views, the open ambience, the cozy atmosphere make it a must.
Great chowder.
Fantastic spot. Excellent food, service and value. Best grilled cheese ever!
Small place but very well managed, the kitchen is in the middle with 2 chefs/cooks that you can see all they do, which equals great food and service, would definitely revisit ????
Had dinner there with my husband. We both had the burger and it was the best burger we've had in a very long time. The salad that came with it was also amazing!
Good food, good service.
Food, ambiance, location and staff are fabulous!!!
This is probably the best seafood chowder we have had in the Maritimes!! Could not believe the amount of seafood in the chowder, almost needed a fork! We had breakfast here this morning and came back for dinner and we're even more impressed the second time. Omelette this morning was great, and dinner tonight was amazing (gourmet grilled cheese was delish)!! Ambience is perfect and prices are more than fair for the food you will have here. Don't miss this place!
Had dinner there. I had the mussels and the seafood chowder. My wife had the seared scallops with the vegetables of the day. 1) Mussels were very good. Very tasty broth and cooked exactly as they should. 2) The seafood chowder was a let down. The base was very creamy and tasty but that's about all the good. The shrimp was so tiny you couldn't taste it. I assume the scallops were bay scallops but again, couldn't taste them. They should have called it fish chowder because that is all I could taste. Nothing wrong with that if that's what I ordered. But I didn't order fish chowder. I ordered Freight Shed Signature Seafood Chowder , "Creamy & light with Maritime Shellfish" . Be careful how you advertise your food. Other than the fact that the shellfish can be called Maritime in that sense of the word, there was nothing local about the shellfish in that chowder, and even if it was, you couldn't taste it because of the over powering fish taste. I am a seafood junky. I am always trying to find the best seafood chowder. This wasn't it by a long shot. 3) My wife enjoyed her seared scallop dish. 4) Had breakfast there the following morning. Beautiful morning so we ate outside. I had the Eggs Benedict . Beautifully executed. Flavor of the Hollandaise sauce was spot on and the eggs were cooked expertly, right on target. My wife enjoyed an order of ham & eggs with home fries on the side. She also enjoyed her breakfast. Overall a good experience save for what I mentioned above and this. I found that they did not follow social distancing requirements between tables. We were there Sept 29 & Oct 1, 2021.
My fish was SOLID, but my wife/son's seafood pasta and lobster roll was amazing. Highly recommended.
Excellent food paired with beautiful views. A must-go in Baddeck, the food was absolutely delicious. I had the scallops and they were super tasty!!!! The best scallops I’ve had in a while. I also tried the seafood chowder; it was creamy, flavourful & fresh. The cesars were standard, the view was not. I recommend checking out the freight shed next time you’re in Baddeck.
Very good food, pleasant staff but placed our order and we're then ignored entirely x 40 minutes until the food finally arrived. Very delicious and equally unimpressed.
Great food with fresh seafood ingredients. Popular with both of local people and tourists. Expect lineup. Service and kitchen are not the fastest. You should not plan to rush if you want to try this restaurant.
Nice view of the bay. Good food and service
Food was amazing.
Ambience beautiful and food below average
Food was amazing. Staff were excellent, friendly and efficient. Location at the marina gave excellent views. Can't wait to go back!
Nice surroundings and wonderful food and service.
From positive - good location. Very long waiting time. We were with friends and kids that's why we were waiting for almost an hour to seat outside. We were proposed to eat inside but it was too hot that day and they did not even had air conditioning. While we were waiting near the entrance no one even offer us water. Moreover when we at least sat and made an offer, waitress brought us only drinks from out offer. No water, which should be a welcome drink everywhere. Nothing special in menu, absolutely regular food. Too pricey for what you get. Do not recommend.
WOW . They make an amazing ceasar ! Then we get to the steamed mussels and smoked salmon bagel.....I cannot say how absolutely delicious this was. I would recommend this place to all my friends. ...I didn't even get to the view or the terrific service !
Fantastic food!! Great service!!
The chowder is worth the wait !!!
Excellent food and service. Mussels are delicious and so is the beer! 5 stars all the way.
Delicious seafood and burgers.
Excellent location. Blustery rainy day but great to be on the dock eacting and watching the waves. Scallops are great tasting, very fresh but cost $16.00 for 4.. Other food was great and generous portions.
Courteous staff and food was good. Great view of Baddeck harbour.
Delicious!
Wow, amazing food and nice selection of wine and beer.
We were seated at approximately 1:40, at 2:30 asked how much longer the food would be. We're told it would be atleast 2:45 before we would have the food at best. Normally that would be a bit annoying but fine - if only we hadn't witnessed the chef toking up just before we were seated... Really professional. Atleast the waitress was smart enough to comp our drinks.
Excellent Lobster Roll (not drowning in mayo) and delicious seafood chowder (thin enough to actually taste the seafood). Highly recommended.
Excellent we loved it!
Food is good and amazing walnut salad seriously I even like the salad more than the seafood!! It's a little bit pricey but It's fine. The staffs were super busy and overwhelmed so be prepared for waiting
Amazing
Went twice on a weekend getaway. Great food and location
Every meal was Amazing!!! We went three times on our three days stay. Service excellent and so accommodating. Definitely check them out!
Delicious food & great service on the several occasions that I ate there.
11/10 amazing
Lovely staff
Liver the blueberry coconut pancakes.
Situated in Baddeck next to the yacht club this eatery is housed in an old renovated government boathouse, decorated with pieces of marine history. There is indoor dining as well as an outdoor patio, with views of Baddeck lake. We ate there for breakfast. The breakfast menu is small 10 -12 items, which ensures freshness, and it can meet everyone's needs. We had the eggs Benedict, which were absolutely delicious, loaded with fresh cut smoked ham served on English muffins with the most rich and flavourful becehmel sauce we have ever tasted. My wife had the coconut blueberry pancakes, which where square in shape. The 3 pancakes were well over 1/2 inches thick and were so large that she could not finish the serving. Lucky me, as I was able to help clear her plate. Delicious food and good service during these Covid times. Person who had eaten dinner there the previous evening said food was terrific. Keep them in mind if going to Baddeck. Note this is not a family eatery.
This place is a gem in-between a long trail. Except for the Nova Scotians it's tough to know about this spot. Luckily we were told about this at the information center. The restaurant was amazing, luckily we got a spot it's tough getting a spot so wait is mandatory! Food was amazing! Descent price! Very nice ambience! And location is so dam good! Must visit!
Beautiful dinner with my sister. Food was amazing. We had chowder, bean burger and lobster role...all totally on point! Very kind staff ????
Food took over an hour. Was great food but by the time it arrived the appetite was shy. Busyish yet small place, kitchen struggled to keep up.
Great experience
Came across this place on the way to Uisag Ban Falls. Absolute fantastic find. Amazing food, beautiful atmosphere and scenery surrounding the outdoor eating area.
The food is excellent. There are no reservations but it was apparent that certain seats and tables were being reserved for patrons that made prior arrangements with wait staff. We were told that a seat by the window was too hot only to see a couple seated there moments later and they obviously knew the server. We were not offered water and got the sense that our presence was not convenient. I will not go back.
Look maybe we were hungry but the food was really good. Vegetarian options were good. Service was great. We didn't know what to expect stopping in baddeck on a whim but in the end we were glad we did
Excellent pancakes or French toast. Big portions. Nice spot to sit out on a sunny morning.
Best meal we had on Cape Breton!! Loved the scallops and lobster roll.
Great restaurant, good service, good food.
Stopped for a drink during our walking tour around Baddeck. Pleasantly greeted upon entering and staff provided good recommendations while here. Cool location right on the dock. Check it out.
Great place. So glad we decided to eat here. On the way in the couple leaving told us we made a good decision - and they were right. The dinner was delicious and fresh; presentation was excellent; atmosphere was friendly and on trend; and it sits right at the dock. So many pluses here - seriously, check it out.
We had the crab cakes and mussels which were fresh and good as expected in Baddeck. The surprising hit was the side salad and its secret dressing. I do not remember enjoying a side salad this much before :) Very friendly staff and charming place
Great location and food. Friends went for b'kfast and proclaimed their blueberry pancakes as the BEST !!!
One of the best seafood linguine in the entirety of Nova Scotia
(Translated) Super delicious, highly recommended. But mostly also very busy and the food is a bit longer but it is also freshly prepared (Original) Super lecker, sehr zu empfehlen. Aber meist auch sehr viel los und auf das Essen wartet man etwas länger dafür ist es aber auch ganz frisch zubereitet.????????????????
Delicious Reuben sandwich. Enough for two!
Great chowder and salad. Fantastic views.
I had the mussels and a flight. I ordered the mussels because I didn’t want a huge meal but they give you a LOT and so I was pretty stuffed :). The choice of local brews to create a flight was satisfying. The servers were polite and welcoming without being cheesy or over-attentive. The sauce he mussels were in was a savoury cream sauce that was good and just slightly too salty for me. I would have added a bit more cream to it (or ease up on the salt/amount of stock). That being said, the mussels were cooked to perfection, not too chewy. I would go back.
Burger ok. Chicken cesar white lettuce too much dressing and fake bacon. Very good chowder. Good scallops. Brutal wait !!! Nearly 1 hour.
Wait Long for table and food, small portion...
Amazing scallops & potatoes, blackened haddock also great! Rhubarb crisp okay, too much sauce so could not taste fruit. Flight of local beers very good.
We had grilled haddock and crab cakes. Enjoyed our meal. Seasonal vegetables . Meal was excellent. Service excellent Carrot cake too sweet icing too thick and not a cream cheese base.
Fantastic!!
Excellent food, service and portion sizes . Fantastic
I stayed in Baddeck for 2 nights and ate here 3 times. Open concept kitchen so you can watch them preparing food. Everything I had was amazing but if you had to pick one thing to try I highly recommend the sea food chowder. Best I’ve ever had. If I ever make it back to baddeck I will be eating here again for sure!
I’m a chowder guy. And I’ve had chowder all over Nova Scotia. THIS chowder knocked my socks off. Both creamy and light and packed with the fillings. Salmon, halibut, mussels, and lobster to the brim!! Great experience, great service and a great view. Highly recommend
We went to this based off the reviews and were disappointed. Food was WAY overpriced, good sized but bland. Service wasn't great. I'd pass.
(Translated) Very good restaurant. Good quality and excellent taste of fish or meat dishes. Always friendly and attentive service during our visits. (Original) Sehr gutes Lokal. Gute Qualität und exzellenter Geschmack der Fisch - oder Fleischgerichte. Immer freundliche und aufmerksame Bedienung bei unseren Besuchen.
Our meal here did not go well. Really slow service that resulted in only 3 of our 4 dishes. The fourth (a hamburger) took an additional 10 minutes so that others were mostly finished their meal... And when finally served was not as ordered (served with a bun and incorrect side). One of our salads had a big piece of crab shell in it (was not a crab salad). The crab cakes ordered were mushy and way over seasoned. We never could get our bill so just walked to the front counter ... There we found another couple that we're waiting to pay after also being unable to get their bill at their table. Really high prices for what was mediocre food with poor service. Unfortunately it still seems like the best option in town. Location on the dock is the best thing going for it.
Awesome food and service
Tiny space, but quaint. I concur with others who suggest later closing on the weekend, in particular during peak tourist season. Friendly staff, great atmosphere and deliciously fresh food! Highly recommended, provided you arrive before 6, or after 9!
Excellent crab cakes. Haddock was unique but tasty. Really nice medley of roasted vegetables. There was some confusion about my husband's meal but the waitress had it sorted out and it arrived surprisingly quickly, piping hot. Their flight of Big Spruce was nice- the red ale and sour were favourites.
This place deserves all the appreciation in this world! Amazing amazing food amazing service and the location! It’s heaven in the form of a restaurant.
Great Food Great Atmosphere,Friendly Staff Big Bang For The Buck,I hope to get back one more time before,The Shut Down.Love This Place....Rated 8 out of 10...
The Shed Burger and salads were delicious. The lobster roll left much to be desired (like a decent amount of lobster). The view eating outside was delightful.
There is effort in delivering quality food and services. The clientele seems lovely too
Ordered take out and they said it would be 10-15mins. Turned out being about an hour and the food was cold. If you come here don’t order take out
Oops big mistake, extreme wait time. Our group of 6 experienced a 1 and 1/2 hour wait time between order placed and food received. Also, the groups who arrived after us, received their food orders before us; group after group. This was hard to understand. Also, one member of our group is diabetic and is in need of a reasonable wait time. A 1/2 hour wait time, at most, would be reasonable, not 1 and 1/2 hour wait time. Our group made four inquiries re lateness throughout the 1 and 1/2 hour time period. The food finally arrives, but there was no followup by the wait staff with regard to beverage refills (also no water provided throughout the visit). One group member had to track down the wait person to obtain an additional beverages. Nobody in the group wanted to ask for tea, coffee or desert due to the long wait process. The manager became aware of the situation after she received a request by our group to meet with her. The manager never ID'ed the problem (why 1 and 1/2 hours transpired, plus the overall poor service. She did mention that these problems were attributed to being very busy; odd, busy equals poor service, strange) but in turn, she covered the cost of the beverages and cut the bill in half. Yet the poor process experience did not end here. It took another three additional requests by the group to get the bill. Amazing, the managers apologies didn't provide improvements. I hope the owners can ID the severe wait time problem in order to promote future sales.
So good we went twice on our 3 night trip to Cape Breton. Busy on Wednesday night, could have been the sailing crowd. Friday night was less busy but still a full restaurant. Food was very good and reasonably priced.
Everyone loved the food. There were 5 of us. Great menu choices.
Waited half an hour to get a seat, waited half an hour to get a waitress to acknowledge my presence. And then was told it would be at least 40 mins to get food. Wish I can rate the food but never got to try any. I can say the service is some of the worst I have ever had, I got a couple of weak apologies but no seemed to really care.
Had dinner and loved it. Sure not too cheap, but the plates are nicely presented and super tasty! The open kitchen and friendly staff does the rest. Try the halibut and/or the chowder….. yummy!
Fantastic food, service and view! We had breakfast and we’re served quickly with professional charm. Clean and trendy facilities. The Food was top notch and the view was stunning. Pet friendly patio too!You need to go here!
Bit pricy for a lunch!
Absolutely the best food, the best value, the best location, the best service in all of Maritime Canada. 10 stars
(Translated) A beautiful discovery of Nova Scotia! The atmosphere is pleasant, the service courteous and the food delicious. It's worth the detour but arrive early, the place is popular! Overpriced lobster roll, was the first place we ate when we arrived to the N.S. Not aware of the average prices. Most expensive sandwich I ever bought. I would give 4 stars but took one away for being overpriced.
(Translated) Small and intimate restaurant, bit fresh, but great cuisine! Enjoyed our dishes with great taste !! (Original) Klein en intiem restaurant, beetje fris, maar geweldige keuken! Met veel smaak genoten van onze gerechten!!
The food was absolutely incredible. The restaurant is small and cute, made for a lovely, intimate date night.
Great food and location
Ordered a glass of wine, the glass had lipstick on it. No biggy. Than ordered the chowder, lots of seafood but little bland. Also had crab cakes which had a bristle/hair. Told waitress which not her fault but I didnt my crab cake and was still was charged full price of $24.95. Slow service and not too busy. Wasnt impressed.
The food was absolutely delicious and the service was top notch! A great place to relax on the waters edge! Highly recommend!
Have dined here a few times, expect a line up to get a table, and a bit of a wait to get your food. Restaurant is usually crowded with customers, and some tables are close together with very little room between tables. Bar also has stools at the bar which is also usually full with customers eating there as well. Lots of noise from nearby tables and open kitchen directly behind the bar. Small outdoor covered patio with small tables and chairs with views of the wharf and boats. Menu is not extensive but has several good selections for a variety of tastes. Prices are medium to high end. Service is friendly but can be slow when restaurant is busy, especially during dinner and evenings. Probably one of the few higher end restaurants in Baddeck.
I had local IPA and a lobster roll, the sandwich was just OK, but the salad came with it was amazing, they put some pecan(?)nuts in it and the result is delicious.
(Translated) French follows. We found this jewel while walking at the Baddeck Waterfront. We walked right in as they were only another couple. Service by Vicki was quick and she made sure that we were properly attended and everything was to our satisfaction. Food was delicious, we had butternut squash soup, seafood chowder, salad and a burger. All amazing. Waiter was great. Small and quaint.
Great spot on the Government wharf in downtown Baddeck!
Do not let the quant size of this place keep you out. The prices are acceptable for resort seasonal locations. The friendly at home staff at the Freight Shed are very warm. The coffee is always fresh. The potato cakes, and sauteed vegetables were truly balanced to perfection by the chief and cooks. The carrot cake is to die for! The spirit and foods of the Freight Shed Restaurant seem to represent this regions history and fine people quite well. We hope to be back again. Thank you.
(Translated) Small friendly bistro the food is really great !! Very close to the water .. Everything is excellent! (Original) Petit bistro sympathique la bouffe est vraiment super !! Tout prêt de l'eau.. Tout est excellent!
Beer on tap would make it perfect
Just visited this restaurant a few days ago. We waited a few minutes for a table which was expected. Once seated, the service wasn’t great. Took 5 minutes or more for a server to come with menus, they did not ask drink orders so then we waited 10 minutes after that to even order drinks. Another 10 minutes to place our food order. Little tip for the severs… always bring menus as you are seating the customer and always ask for drink orders once seated or automatically bring water. Just a few tips that would have made for a better experience. Food was okay, small menu!
Received a recommendation to eat here from a local and we had a great time/meal. We had seafood chowder, Rueben sandwich and haddock Persian vin blanc. Good chowder and haddock. Salad that came with the Rueben sandwich was delicious. Rueben was good too but the smoked roast beef was a tad too salty.
Enjoyed a late afternoon meal here. Although very busy, we were seated on the patio after about a 10 min wait. Crabcakes were lightly battered, all crab meat inside and fresh tasting. The lobster roll was lightly seasoned allowing the lobster flavour, mostly claw meat, to shine through. Both were served with a lovely fresh organic mixed greens salad. Our waitress, Breagha brought the whole meal together with her efficient and attentive service!
Fantastic food.
Had great lobster roll there.
Amazing place, very good food, absolutely magical smocked salmon bagels and chowder. The stuff was very friendly, I came with 3 kids and had a lot of fun there. Recommended to everyone to stop by
Incredible food!!!!
Excellent food, great view, what more could you ask?
Food is very good... lobster roll was very tasty and scallops were wonderful. Haddock was good ...not a wow factor. Loved the mussels.
Two of us visited on Monday night, very buzzy at 8.00pm, but they managed to fit us in. Started with a flight of local beers, outstanding. My wife had the Lobster Roll and I had the smoked salmon bagel. Both were exceptional, and so much salmon! For dessert we share a piece of their homemade carrot cake. Throughout dinner the staff were amazing, a good knowledge of all the dishes and drinks and attentive to our every needs. The meal was so good we went back the next night for another great dinner.
Food was very good but we waited an hour to receive it. Our server hardly came to our table to refill our beverages unless we stood up and waited by the bar and her knowledge of beers wasn't the greatest either. Go for the food but dont expect great service.
Great chowder
Sat outside on a beautiful October evening, restaurant gave us blankets to keep warm. Food was absolutely wonderful, service was fantastic. Hidden gem in baddeck
Delicious food and friendly service!
Had the haddock and it was the most delicious meal of my vacation. The service was excellent. The vegetables and potatoes were perfect. I'm only sorry I missed out on desert due to food allergies. My wife's chicken Caesar salad was the best she ever had.
Excellent meal. Server got my order wrong but I chose to eat it anyway, which was not disappointing. Going back for sure!
Food was DIVINE, and our waitress was fantastic. Definitely worth what we paid
Great food and great service
Just had the French Toast breakfast, delicious is an understatement.
Excellent. Our party raved about the mussels, seafood linguini, and haddock.
