A great selection of annuals and perrenials of all shapes and sizes in a beautiful riverside location. There are many reasons to visit Black Diamond but this is the best one. The labels on each plant with the information on growing conditions are particularly helpful and so are staff members

First visit here and was definitely surprised. Great gem of a greenhouse! Staff, especially Patty, were exceptional. Very courteous, professional, and knowledgeable. A wide selection of plants, vegetables, herbs, trees and shrubs. Great selection of yard ornaments as well. Will probably be making numerous visits here over the summer.

Amazing greenhouse and garden centre. The staff and owner were very helpful in helping us find complementary plants. The choice of plants is vast and interesting, including many unusual varietals, art, baskets, .... I've included some of my favorites, but there were so many! Google reviews asks if this place is wheelchair accessible. It is,but the alleys and what's are small river gravel.

We really enjoyed our first visit to Vale's and plan on making a return trip when we have more time to spare. I would estimate you would need ~1.5 hours to carefully peruse all of the greenhouses and the gift shop. The staff were knowledgable about their inventory and were able to direct me to the exact green house and/or cold frame where my enquiries were waiting. They have an excellent selection of perenials and annuals, including items I wasn't able to find in the city. I was specifically looking for Nicotiana Alata or Sylvestrii, and they had the latter. I was also able to purchase a couple of other talls for the border, foxglove (Digitalis) and Bells of Ireland.The drive out (22X) was very nice too, thru the rolling foothills!

The owner of this greenhouse is incredibly rude and ignorant. The other reviews suggesting that the owner is mean and unwelcoming are correct. I'll never return here.

Nice find! Was looking for a specific, hard-to-find perreniel plant that none of the Calgary locations had this year. Called Patty at Vales and she had a few. We drove out and voila! What a great greenhouse...I ended up buying extra items because I just couldn't resist. The staff is über friendly and helpful, and it's obviously a much beloved location because everyone there seemed to know one another... You know the place: people chat about plants while shopping, while looking, while waiting in line, etc. Loved it!

Wow! This is a lovely place to pick up pretty much everything you could want for your garden. Incredible selection and reasonable pricing. And they guarantee perennial shrubs and trees for 2 years! Will be back!

High end greenhouse. It was tricky knowing the prices, especially for annuals, it seemed a little confusing and expensive. Beautiful set-up, and a nice place to visit.

There is a very nosy , rude old lady working here. Also she has no manners. Not sure if this is the owner or an employee but watch out. I will never go there again. It is also very over priced.

We were attending the arts and craft show here having a wonderful day in Black Diamond. The weather was not great as it had been a bit rainy in the area in the last couple days. My son who is high energy and usually not an outdoor's type of person was being a little difficult so I was trying to keep him out of any areas he might bump into plants or art and do any damage, so I took him to a side area of mostly grass and some pathway to let him have some space to wander. Uncharacteristically he began to have a beautiful moment outdoors, walking along the stone wall as kids do and doing circles around an area of grass. It was quite beautiful as it was drizzling a little and he was enjoying the time not worrying about getting wet which he would normally complain about, and just enjoying himself. Along comes who I can only guess is "Vale" who begins to scold my child for what he is doing (walking along the stone and some of the wooden walls) yelling at him that this is her garden and there are signs posted against what he was doing, which I am sorry I did not see in the area. Also I am sorry if he was doing anything wrong, it would have been fine to speak to me about it first and I would have stopped him immediately. Regardless, I would have stopped him immediately if I felt like he was doing anything untoward to begin with. All he was doing was walking along some walls and not getting into any garden areas, other then the grass. Our beautiful moment came crashing down and he immediately went back to his introverted, electronics obsessed self and started whining about going back home after that. If your garden/greenhouse is not family friendly you should state that more obviously at the entrance. I'm not sure why you would make such a beautiful area if not for people to enjoy the outdoors. We were not doing anything destructive, my child was enjoying the outdoors which he so rarely does so naturally. Will not be returning to such an intolerant venue.

As we're going to check out, the owner begins to tell us how to take care of the plants in a very condescending manner and as we're asking questions she gave attitude because we didn'tsay her exact instructions back to her. After we thanked her the information, She then goes to the next customer behind us in line, within earshot and start talking badly about us. The owner... behaved this way. Unacceptable. What a disappointment, my partner was so excited to visit this greenhouse and left feeling unwelcome and disrespected.

Had a mostly pleasant experience at Vales. Large selection of plants and a nice place to walk around. On the downside they are currently restricting children under the age of 16 due to COVID-19. While I understand the need to take precautions the other greenhouses in my area don't seem to have this restriction and it seems a little random. The child I had with me is a baby which obviously can't be left alone or attended by someone else at this point and is also not actively touching things and is in a stroller the entire time. If you would like to procure a unique set of plants for your garden I would recommend this place but given my experience recently and past experiences they are not the most family friendly.

Very disappointed by their policy of not allowing minors. We love the selection and the knowledgeable staff however will not be returning in the future due to this. You are actively choosing to exclude young families from your clientele which is a large demographic. Not everyone wants to or can hire child care just to go shopping at your centre. Trust that parents are responsible enough to watch their own children and that if they break something the parent will be responsible to buy it (like every other business in the world, you guys are not special!). And seriously, does the average 15 year old go around smashing pots or licking plants?! Anyone with children should go to the Saskatoon farm; also a great selection and family friendly.

Vales Greenhouse is a jewel in the small town of Black Diamond! My friend from Canmore who is a customer & has raved about this beautiful spot offered to drive to Calgary & take me there on May 2. I have health issues & limited mobility & was planning to use a wheelchair. Calling ahead the owner Katrina suggested we arrive later in the day as they would be open to 7 PM. Although pathways within the various greenhouses are packed gravel ~ she offered to be as accommodating as possible & she was! It was my 1st visit to 'Vales Greenhouse' & from the moment we entered I felt as though we had entered paradise. The gorgeous & unusual colours as well as the quality of the plants & the amazing scents floating through the air was wonderful. We wandered at our heart's content & the staff are so friendly & accommodating! My friend was purchasing for her mountain garden & myself for a Calgary patio! We were so excited with our purchases! And yes ~ all the practices at 'Vales Greenhouse' are set-up with safe practices re: Covid. I would encourage a visit sooner rather than later as some of the plants are more unusual & selling quickly. My friend has returned a second time as her son & fiance arranged a post Mother's Day excursion & 2 others I have spoken to will be going as well. The drive out in the country will do your heart good & you will find some amazing plants & other garden & home treasures in the shop. Enjoy the Experience!!

We go here every year for their art show. It is a beautiful venue for the art displayed amongst all the plants and shrubs. You will see art from numerous artist's in different mediums: painting, ceramics, wood, glass, and crafts. All the work is quality and the prices are reasonable. There are top artists selling here, and are often present. You can also purchase plants and other gardening items and the staff is numerous and very helpful.

A minor family tradition is spoiled, and a customer lost: My daughters and I have been coming out to Vale's for ~8 years now, as it is a beautiful attraction. We browse, do some plant identification of perennials, and buy a plant or two to support. It's a yearly road trip we look forward to. Today we had a helpful staff member inform us that the building we were in was had spiders that "Jump on people". Well, that was the end of our trip. I wish folks would think a bit about the helpful information they share. I would like to come back next year, but see that one of my daughters will not ever want to return.

Loved even walking through. Picked out unique planters can not find anywhere. It's like a park. A higher end nursery so expect pricing to reflect that.

Outstanding service and exceptional plants. I will return time and time again. Children ARE allowed and they love looking at the plants and helping parents select them. When children wish to run around and play, there's a park right next door. Go to Vales in the early evening, as there are less people there.
