This Gardener corresponds to the category of Garden center.
Great selection of plants, friendly knowledgable staff!
Me and my husband went to get bark last Saturday and i dont know what the lady name that help us, but i never had such a great experience anywhere.. so knowledgeable and friendly service!! keep it up!
My latest experience : Thank you so much! I needed a couple cups of cactus potting soil and instead of having to buy a large bag they gave me a couple cups! Awesome. And much appreciated!
Huge selection good prices and friendly service.
Everything seemed over-priced so we didn't buy anything.
They still had a good selection of roses
LOVE this garden centre not only for their fresh and well-kept plants but also for the giftware and unique garden decor. Staff is helpful and knowledgeable but not in your face.
Best garden shop in Calgary
Great service, knowledgeable staff. Great source for fertilizer and lawn seed
A bit over priced tho. But nice stuff from China
Convenient location for the south. Easy to access bulk bins. Pretty helpful staff with knowledge to get outdoor work done right. We've been able to do most of our landscaping here just minutes away from Legacy!
Really great selection of plants and landscape materials. You will pay slightly more for plants here compared to Home Depot, but they are way better quality.
Really helpful crew that do that little bit extra. A fantastic experience selecting plants and trees for my new landscaping project.
Called to get some information but no one would answer the phone. Tired several times.
omg fantastic, what a space! plan on spending a lot of time here, so much to see - plants, decorations, garden pots etc. The staff are very friendly and eager to answer questions. I can't wait for summer!
Love how you rush back to get a second load of gravel and arrive 20 minutes before they close and they won't allow you to pick up any bulk items like a gravel because they close a minimum 20 minutes early everyday. Spoke to the yard manager who had a smug attitude and was completely on helpful. maybe they should consider scheduling their employees 15 minutes later so they can finish all their duties and remain open until they're posted hours of operation for their customers?
Amazing staff, very helpful throughout your visit! I purchased a Fin plant a few weeks ago, he is stunning.
Be very careful and do your research, prices are up to double the price of other garden centers.... And they laughed when I asked if they price match.
Well stocked and nice layout of the shop. Plants can be a tad expensive but they have a good variety and the staff are always helpful and kind.
In Calgary, they don't give a phone number and their comment below about how their phone number is listed on their products means that their B.C. phone number is listed. They don't have a Calgary phone number. You can't call any of their locations in Calgary before you go there, so you end up driving there to find that their pop-up garden centre is closed permanently. They have no return policy on purchased items. Some returns are accepted; some aren't depending on how the wind blows. Great prices, though.
Nothing to complain about. Nothing outstanding. Just ok
Spent over $300 on flowers, and less than a week later called to see if I could exchange a few since I learned that they were toxic to my cats and they would not even consider it. First and last time I ever spend my money there...nice customer service!
My absolute favourite place to shop for plants. Excellent variety and very helpful staff! Going to Spruce It Up is always the highlight of my week.
Edit- I have spoken to a manager who was willing to replace the pieces that were burnt and resolve the issue for us, it seems there was confusion relating to policy on returning sod vs receiving poor quality sod. We will continue to purchase from Spruce It Up and we are happy with their customer service :) We purchased a pallet of sod on Friday immediately after it arrived at the garden centre and rolled it out immediately after returning home 5 minutes away. Around 10 rolls were burnt and they will not refund or exchange them, how are we supposed to know they are burnt unless we roll them out first? We aren't able to unroll a pallet before taking it home. We rolled them out anyways but it looks horrible and not sure it will recover.
Variety of pots (colours, sizes) for planting indoor or outdoor plants.
Very knowledgeable friendly and helpful staff.great quality products, good selection. Good pricing.plants were very healthy.
Lovely shopping experience
We did our landscaping last year with Spruce it up. They did respect the design we ask and we were overall satisfied with the result. Last year, when I’ve had some concerns, they were responding accordingly and respectfully. I do recommend Spruce It Up for the landscape. This year we had a couple of littles things or concerns and they did respond, with a delay, but everything was solve and we are very happy.
Fantastic selection
I have had six trees delivered and planted by Spruce it Up. Spent close to $2000 hoping they will be planted as they should to get the best results. After trees been planted I went to the backyard to check them out and found holes they dug were so small they barely fitted the root ball and in fact one of the bigger trees root ball was still exposed. Tree's barks been damaged probably during delivery but they did not tell me and in fact they planted that tree so the damage was hidden. Called several times and sent an email right after noticing it but no response yet. Really disappointed. Updating my review here...Got a hone call from Spruce It Up same day posted this review and had the tree replaced next morning. Seems they were working on replacing the tree but forgot to call me and let me know. Lot manager stopped by couple of days after replacing the tree to check all trees and to make sure everything is to my satisfaction. I am actually impressed how quick they responded and how serious they take their business thus giving it a 5 star.
Love the Christmas setup! Cute and unique gifts.
Always finding cool little things here.
One of the best garden shops in town!
Company policy: over-promise and under deliver. A sizable contract w SIU had to be cancelled because they repeatedly failed to deliver on their commitments to service our 45 unit complex.
Friendly staff that are knowledgeable and helpful makes for a pleasant experience everytime we go.
Very friendly staff. Beautiful store, specially with all of their Christmas stuff set up. Really put us in the holiday spirit! Also discovered that it is a dog friendly place :)
Fabulous staff and center. We hosted a terruium buidbuil class at Hudson's Bay with Spruce it Up. They were a pleasure to deal with. They were organized, prepared and great with all the customers!
My absolute favorite garden place to go.
I have had three trees planted by Spruce it Up in my front yard. They all died. They wouldn’t warranty them. Spent over $2500 and was completely disappointed. When I called another local company they dug up pounds upon pounds of synthetic fertilizer. No wonder the trees didn’t have a fighting chance, the roots were burned. Thankfully Aaron cull from Evergreen lawn services LTD. helped me fix this issue.
I went to Spruce it up, after checking several other garden centers and not finding a very good selection. It is the end of July. I found a decent selection of plants, however, many of them had hail damage. We've had two major hail storms in the last week. When I brought this to the attention of one of the employees he tried to tell me that it was leaf singe from watering them too early in the day and watering them from the top. I tried to get a discount because of the damage done to the one shrub, however, was denied he was insisting that it was not hail damage... I was however, desperate as a pet of ours had recently passed and I needed some shrubs to plant over top of the burial site. So even without the discount I did purchase the shrubs I needed, out of pure desperation. I will however never be going back to this Garden Center again, unless pure desperation sets it again which I highly doubt.
If you live in Walden, Chaparral or Legacy you get a great price on delivery!
A great selection of all types of plants. Even late in the season you can grab some good annuals to fix up the garden!
They hire sketchy third party contractors.
Near to mcleod trail and easy access. Carries variety of saplings.
This is my go-to garden centre for everything I need for my yard and home plant care. I find the prices very competitive, much more reasonable than some other garden centres in the south side. The staff are very helpful and can always answer my questions about the plants, again, much better than some other south garden centres. And the selection is top notch, where they have a great selection of plants perfectly suited to our climate. You can definitely tell that a master gardener oversees this green house.
Great plants and yard supplies
It was okay, a little over priced for what you were getting.
Has great products, but the customer service....great if you are caucasian not great if you are someone of color, at least thats how we felt when we went, not a single welcome or if one needed help or anything at all, the workers were doing their best to avoid any contact with us, but the three caucasians got full on customer service, were asked how their day was and if they needed assitance. When we paid for our product and clearly needed assitance we received none of that nor were we asked, while we noticed with others they were helping. Never coming back here again.
Awesome place such great huge variety, only thing I had trouble with was finding out where/what they had in stock as even the workers didn’t seem to know everything they had. I managed to find several plants in a bunch of different locations that they said they did not have, but that’s okay since it made the experience far more engaging trying to find the hidden plants! This place is a treasure trove.
Very well organized.
Lots different trees. But very expensive
I love this place! I have pretty much spent the better part of two summers here between my lawn and decoration. They helped me pick the sod to my liking (blue grass hybrid) as well as my trees. I always buy my fertilizer and seed from here as well. Inside they have a great selection of decorative garage/house and garden items. I can't wait for christmas. The staff is incredible keep it up everyone!
Spent too much money here...must be a good thing!
Great service! Selection gets better as the season “opens up”
Beautiful and full of selections!! More to come.
Friendly staff, wide variety of indoor and outdoor plants.
They're amazing, great variaty of plants and supplies. They're a little far but prices makes up the difference. Helpful & friendly staff. It's my #1 choice in Calgary and area.
Wonderful shop. Plants soil fertilizers.
The best garden centre in Calgary. The staff are fantastic. They are always my first choice.
Spruce It Up has a wide variety of plants, gardening tools, and decor for both the outdoors as well as the indoors! The staff are knowledgeable and can help you with any questions you may have about anything to do with gardening! Came here last summer and had a few questions about fertilizer and BRAD was very very helpful!!! My number 1 place to shop for any gardening needs. I like to always support locally owned businesses. If I’m up early on Sundays I love listening to Meryl on AM 770 host of “ let’s talk gardening “. As I am a newbie at gardening. Thank you Spruce it up crew!! Keep doing what ur doing !!
Great selection. Good customer service.
Great place. Be prepared to open up your wallet though
We have used Spruce it up for tree purchases in past years and for pruning & Fertilizing our hedge just last summer. I have been very happy with the total experience right from when they come out to give us an estimate on the work we have asked for to the completed work. There was some missed spots that I told them about (due to a misunderstanding) and they quickly came out and corrected the issue. I would definitely recommend them.
Great place to go for trees. Lots of employees to assist you.
This garden center is on the outskirts of the city with good access and the staff are quite helpful with any questions you may have regarding gardening and outdoor and indoor plants.
When we first arrived our three year old went to touch a water sculpture which happened to be by some small potted plants. As we stopped our daughter and instructed her to not touch things an employee came over and in a demeaning tone said "those plants are $75.00 each", shook her head and walked away. First, our daughter is three and we stopped her. Second if our kids break something we pay for it as it is correct thing to do. Now, to be fair this employee is probably not reflective of the company as a whole. However, they lost our business that day and we probably will not return. Interactions with every customer do matter. It is a typical large retail garden center. There is a smaller more detailed oriented green house 5 minutes away in De Winton.
Great job by delivery guy Andy!!
Great shop here. Perfect for gift buying.
Beautiful selection ,friendly and knowledgeable staff
Very nice place with a nice variety of plants...pricey though.
Cute place!
Knowledgeable staff, kind, friendly and helpful. Lots of plants, trees, supplies etc. Saw my fav moss hanging basket! My fav nursery.
Bought 50mm caliper Toba Hawthorn, great quality tree, excellent staff, helped answer all my questions all the way through. And amazing delivery and installation crew. Awesome job.
Great garden centre. Lots of plants and home decor
A nice garden center with a wide variety of shrubs, trees, plants, soil mixes and everything else you need for your garden.
Such a great selection and the team at Spruce It Up is always so helpful! Much needed for this aspiring green thumb!
Very busy due to early season but they were prepared and organized with people guiding traffic. As always, a great selection of indoor and seasonal plants and many other garden goodies. Still my 'go to' place for spring planting! You won't be disappointed.
Wonderful experience, quality selection of indoor, outdoor, seeds, bulbs and exotic plants including decor for your patio and interesting giftware. Great open parking concept and entrance (no stairs to deal with) and friendly knowledgeable staff.
My dog and I had a fantastic time here. Beautiful store, great selection, well organized, and amazing staff. Jen in particular really made my experience that much more as she was so kind and helpful. Definitely going back again when I need more plants or gardening supplies. They also have a great selection of pots.
They've always helped all my questions
Staff is friendly and knowledgeable.
This place is amazing. Locally owned and awesome! I live a half hour away but always worth the drive. It is like taking a small holiday every time I walk in the door. The staff is amazing, knowledgeable, funny, and helpful. The selection is outstanding. I go for house plants and my wife goes for perennials. Massive Selection! Warehouse size! Thanks Spruce It Up! Keep up the great work! Peace and Love
Love this place... local business, got the best seeds from them, all seeds came from Lethbridge so all seeds were suitable for Calgary....
An extensive garden centre with great selection and minimal staff.
Great place, people, and products. Also had my tree's pruned by their group AWESOME job cared for my lawn as well as my neighbors.
My favorite garden store!!!
Good service from employees hope the product works as well
Impressive variety of products. Spaceos environment. Helpful staff. We are going back to be knspired more and to buy some plants and product.
Very nice landscaping store!
Merle and entire team at Spruce It Up... we absolutely love your trees, sod (best we've ever found), plants, garden mix, mulch and other landscaping items. You have exemplary customer service and so kind, knowledgeable and helpful every visit! Thank you!!! Walter and Shauna
Great stuff and staff, just to bad it so far from my house lol
Typically I get my plants from Home Depot. This year with COVID I decided to support local businesses and therefore put an order in with Spruce It Up. However I have had multiple issues: 1) The pansies I recieved were extremely leggy with yellow leaves on the bottom half of the plant, I have cut them back in hopes that they will fill out properly in a few weeks time. Typically however, I shouldn't see them this leggy so early in the year. 2) Some order items were not available but I was not informed until pick up, this was frustrating because if I had been informed I could have picked up ny necessities elsewhere. In fact I had been to Home Depot for soil immediately before my pick up (but I wasnt aware that the items were not available as I had paid in full when I ordered). I ended up having to go back to Home Depot for a second time to get what was needed. Not really the best scenario as there are lines everywhere and risk of covid. 3) Lastly but most importantly, I got three pepper plants from them which also were quite leggy. They have been inside under light as it is still too cold to plant them in the ground. It was quite a surprise to find two of the plants infested with aphids (a problem I have never had before especially when they have been inside in a controlled environment and not near any other plants). This definitely will stop me from returning in the future as I feel the service and quality of the products was poor.
Nice place. Some real unique items
Good but pricey... GARDEN Gate was cheaper for lots of stuff but found out only after buying stuff here. Would be nice if they were more competitive in pricing considering that their overhead can't be as much as green gate which is inner city
Super nice, really. Really helpful!
Great little gardening centre had all the tools I needed for my landscaping project.
Excellent plant choices
Great selection of everything 'garden'. Sculptures, urns, pots, soil ammedments, ornaments, wind chimes, indoor and outdoor plants galore, and best of all, the whole property is dog friendly!
Good selection... great staff
Are indoor plants and outdoor yard care your bliss? Do you get excited when you find a new plant for that space you want to jazz up? Then this place should be on your list to check out. There's lots to ogle at from wall decor to bird baths to unique plants to everything in-between and beyond.
Too pricey. But nice selection of flowers and decorative pots.
A great garden centre, mostly outdoors. They have a lovely selection.
Amazing selection, good pricing and everything was extremely healthy even with the crazy spring weather. Only issue is customers removing or not wearing masks without any staff intervention, but you can't really blame the staff for st*pid customers. Definitely my favorite garden center in Calgary
An amazing garden Center. Full of positive vibe and so peaceful! a. Wide range and diversified product line b. Staffs are very friendly and knowledgeable c. Excellent customer service d. Lot of parking spots A must place to visit!
Very pricey compared to some alternatives
How do I give zero stars......? Don’t buy there, if you happen to have a tree die, they will treat you like a criminal and give you a hard time upon warranty return. we bought 4 trees for $700 and one of them dried out. The return process was just ridiculous and they gave us a gift card saying that whatever we buy with it, there’ll be no warranty.... we will never shop there again.
OVERPRICED!!! Grown tomato plant is here $32!!???? in Superstore is for $16!!! There's a $20 bill probably in the pot.lol????♂️
I liked it, staff is friendly, and they have an impressive garden bric-a-brak selection.
Always a great experience, so much to see
Great little nursery
A lot of prices are decent and selection is good. Staff are adequate and agreeable.
Great selection of everything, a little pricey though.
Great garden Center
Great garden centre!
high;y expensive. but excellent customer service!!!
Stations staff great selection decent prices. Love that they also sell home decor. They really know the way to a woman's heart
Good quality trees and plants but a bit over my budget. Sorry guys but had to dock you 1 star.
Wide selection of indoor and outdoor plants and trees with extraordinarily knowledgeable staff. A must go to place with plenty of parking and anything you need for your garden or yard!
Everyone's always very friendly, good selection of indoor and outdoor plants and accessories. Plants we've bought have all been very healthy and done well love taken home. Bring your Calgary Horticulture Society membership for 15% off.
Had everything I needed. Great service.
Lots of Gardening supplies, lots of selection for flowers, trees, bushes, planters, etc etc. Helpful staff. Great place.
The good: decent selection of indoor tropical plants (though I find the more rare plants they carry aren't always in great shape), good delivery rates for bulk products if you live in a nearby community like Walden, or Legacy The bad: prices are outlandish for plants you could find for less than half the price elsewhere, I have purchased 2 indoor plants here that were littered with mealy bugs and scale, customer service has let me down considerably this year (I have been visiting every couple days to get some hops plants or seeds and kept being told they would arrive soon, my calls and then voicemails go unanswered about whether they've arrived, and I was completely ignored yesterday when I went in and asked an associate whether they had arrived or not.
Beautiful garden center you can find everything you need and even find things you didn't know you needed until you saw it! Professional and helpful staff round out the shopping experience!
Very helpful staff. Given some criteria they helped me pick some plant options that would work, then speng extra time giving some guidance on caring for them.
Only place I found bark mulch! Great spot for everything yard and garden.
Super friendly
A nice garden centre on the out shirts of town. They have a wide selection but it is pricy.
Great service
Just walked out of Spruce it up Garden Center with a 4' live Christmas tree that cost me $52! Would have left and went elsewhere other than every other vendor being sold out. This place should be ashamed of themselves.
An interesting selection of products, staff was friendly, it would have been nice if they offered help periodically rather than having to track them down for inquiries. Most products have price tags which allows you to help yourself for the most part, I did have some unanswered questions when I left.
Nice selection... I do find majority of the items are overpriced, and end up looking at other store for the items I found there.
We had our spruce tree thinned out and shaped today. George and crew, 4 altogether, came and spent 3.5 hours up the tree doing their work. The tree is about 70’ tall and they went up to about 50’ cleaning old branches along the way. They worked extremely well together and it was obvious that they enjoyed what they were doing. They used a chipper and cleaned the area below the tree by raking and sweeping up the loose pieces. Great experience!
Nice place to shop
Friendly staff
Such a fun place to visit! Staff is super nice and helpful.
Great garden center, loved the staff, they did a wonderful event for their 15th anniversary with ice cream cupcakes and t shirts, love the variety of plants they have
Every trip to Spruce it Up is a memorable one. They have an excellent selection of annuals and perennials as well as a large, well stocked tree nursery. But the part I love best is the shop! It has a great variety of flower pots, decor, and lighting. They also have a dedicated space for a good variety of succulents and tropical plants. The prices are very reasonable and if you buy a plant and a pot, they pot it for you. I enjoy wandering around the shop and grounds, there's always something fun to see. The icing on the cake is their staff are knowledgeable and attentive. I've had top notch customer service every time I go.
I love coming here, especially at Christmas! Love their store items and the staff are super friendly and helpful!
(Translated) Nice and neat (Original) Bonito y ordenado
Great place fot all your outdoor needs. Fsst and friendly staff
Great selection. Some staff are very knowledgeable about trees and gardening
All you need is here
Great selection and awesome assistance. Decent warranty comes with each purchase of their plants as well. Can't wait to come back
At the beginning of Covid, I ordered a mystery plant package for low lighting. I am happy to say that 8 months later they are all doing well and thriving. I have since gone back numerous times and their selection is extensive and everchanging, it is hard to leave without getting a few plants and pots..
Freindly. Helpful. Good selection
Knowledgable staff lots of options
Lots of stuff.
Great service people, lots of plant options, decent prices on delivery.
Great variety and price
The staff specially the females are so rude and confrontational.
In a word, terrible. Do yourself a favour, buy your landscape products elsewhere. It has been one negative customer service experience after another, here is our saga:______1st tree - Had a Schubert Chokecherry delivered and planted. They dumped a pile of dirt on our decorative rocks and refused to come clean it up after I called to explain what happened.______2cd tree - It died promptly, so I lopped off the top (a good chunk of it) and brought it back to Spruce It Up for replacement. They then told me that I was supposed to return the entire tree because it had been bought in a container. The tree was 15 feet high, so that was ridiculous. They examined, almost under a microscope, the branch that we brought back to determine if it was truly dead. Then gave us a credit note (reluctantly) for a replacement tree._____3rd tree (purchased using part of the warranty supplied) was a large Mayday caliper tree (for $700) that is now extremely weak. When we saw it at the garden lot, it was healthy and full. When it was delivered, 6 weeks later, due to their heavy backorders, the leaves were yellow and there were few of them remaining on the tree. They showed up a day before they said they would arrive with the tree, undoubtedly because they knew they were delivering a virtually dead tree. We complained and they said give it a year, gave us $100 refund on the tree and told us to call them next year if the tree still wasn't doing well. We did call the next year because many branches had no leaves and the few branches that did had very few leaves. We sent photos of the tree with virtually no leaves. They did nothing. I fertilized the tree to try to get it going without success. This is the third year we have had it and it has almost no leaves. It is a large caliper tree that will take some effort to remove but it is simply pitiful looking.
Could use some attention to bugs on the plants and in the Green house. I’m very pleased with the quality of my plants just frustrating that some of the ones I got from the drop off had bugs. I know that your a very busy location and that it’s hard to have someone constantly check the plants for bugs. I would have brought this up sooner but couldn't get through on the phones when things were crazy for you guys during the drop off/curb side pick up.
Looked for help, nowhere to be found. Got told to go find a certain person. I don't work here how the hell would I know who Bev is. You don't wear name tags or anything.
I was not very pleased with my experience with them. They were to install a tree in my back yard for a fee of $250 plus the price of the tree. The tree was to replace a previous tree that had died. We selected and paid for a tree and when they called to confirm the date, they said we had to dig the hole bigger if we did not have "call before you dig" come out. I even offered to provide a Real Property Report to prove there were not utility lines there but I don't think they know what that is. What a waste of time! We cancelled the tree as I am not paying $250 installation fee and removing the tree and digging the hole myself. Make sure you ask for all details before selecting and paying for a tree.
Beautiful selection and helpful staff.
There is a large variety of trees and shrubs in different sizes at reasonable prices. The staff was friendly and helpful
Just visited this week and very impressed with the selection of annuals, perennials and beautiful pots. I found exactly the right shade of green I was looking for in a pot, and I am fussy! As a Master Gardener I recognize healthy plants and theirs looked the best from all my scouting around. I will definitely be back! Thank you SIU!
Had Denny and Neil here today (08/19/21) to prune my Japanese Lilac tree and they were great. Tree looks amazing and thy left my property nice and clean. Would hire them again in an instant!
Over priced but good selection. Same plants in season at Home Depot for 20% or more less.
I love going here. Their selection of pots is unsurpassed among the Calgary garden centres that I've visited (a major problem for me as I walk back and forth trying to decide), and the staff is very helpful. They also keep adding to their selection of interesting and hard-to-find houseplants.
Great prices and selection
I hired "professional landscapers" to save time. As many contractors they rounded corners and I ending up spending more money to cover their mistakes to fix it. Your call!
First time going to Spruce it up, my wife and I were excited that we found some lovely little spruce trees that we had plans to put them in some big pots outside our garage doors. We were stopped by Trev on the way to the cash register just to make sure that we were helped and to let us know a few things about the spruce trees. We let him know what our plans were, and he educated us in the fact that they would not last the winter. And in fact, anyting planted in a pot in Calgary will likely not last the winter. He gave us some great advice and other alternatives to put in our pots. We ended up not buying anything, but this establishment will now be our #1 place for anything garden and landscape related. The fact that an employee would rather give sound advice than to sell a few hundred dollars worth of inventory tells alot about a business. We will absolutely be back, many times over I'm sure!
Great service and staff. Owen did a great job loading 7 large pots on the SUV. All got home in great shape. Thanks Owen
The folks here are always so helpful and nice about my black thumb! Thank you for helping me out every time I'm in! I'm working towards being having a green thumb soon. ????
Friendly and helpful. Great product selection.
Very Helpful staff!! Got deals on plants
I do not recommend their online ordering service at all!! I ordered my supplies, paid for them and received an email confirming my order. When called to say it was ready, I went to pick it up and found very key items were “no longer available.” Even though they let me order and pay for them online. No one informed me before I came and the employees told me if I wanted to add something else in its place I would need to submit another online order. (I was refunded for the missing supplies). When I contacted the store with this concern, they never got back to me. Trying to support local businesses but this one really disappointed.
Helpful staff, good prices and good selection
I ordered 2 yards of 20mm washed rock over the phone. it was delivered on the day as scheduled but when I got home to see my pile of rocks, crushed rock was delivered instead. I called to clear up this mistake and I was told that on my paper work, which was supposed to be emailed to me but I still have not got a copy of, it said I ordered crushed rock and that they don't carry 20mm washed rock, even though on their website it clearly states that they do. now I have a pile of rocks I didn't want on my driveway and I have to buy the right ones again and pay another delivery charge. Update They delivered the correct rocks after another discussion with the manager for no extra charge.
Friendly and helpful staff.
Very beautiful place, people should go and visit Atleast. They will get refresh
Crazy sales lady. We wanted to buy a tree but the sales lady was quite rude. Took a lot of our time telling us how nothing will grow in Calgary. Rather disappointed. We will be going elsewhere.
decent variety of gardening stuff
Lovely place to go even if you just browse. The plants are well taken care & so beautiful as the annuals start to bloom.
Purchased pure spray green and a jackmanni clematis.Friendly staff. Will repeat visit soon as I need to purchase sweet peas to fill in spots.
We got a new tree planted by Spruce it up - tree and delivery and planting service. I am convinced they did not plant it right. It literally is the worst tree in the neighborhood, we have watered as per instructions to no avail. We tried going back and speaking to 'tree experts' there only to be told we had to wait one year and until there was absolutely nothing left on tree. What is worse is that we will have to pay for removing and re-delivery, replanting of tree. I am beyond disappointed. They should offer to send someone out to see if this tree will ever revive - it will not. It's a shame my community does not offer an alternative. Update on September 22nd 2017: after reading the email from the owner, I will send an email with the photo taken on August 15th when we went to the center and today's. Will update this review after I've submitted the information required and hearing back. Thank you for reaching out
The staff was helpful explaining how my new plants should be cared for and how to help my failing plants at home. I found the place inviting and cleaning with an interesting choice of indoor plants to try my hand at. Bonus! They are having a sale!
Lots of great Christmas things and it's a lot bigger this year.
Very helpful and great quality of plants.
Love this Garden Center! Helpful and knowledgeable staff, reasonable prices and Great quality!
Very friendly staff... Thanks for helping us with our questions.
Ordered 3 skids of sod got only one delivered. They are blaming the delivery company and delivery company is blaming them. If I order from spruce it is your responsibility to own up your mistake. I won’t be recommending this company to anyone and would be sharing it with everyone in mahogany as well
First time going to Spruce it up and it will not be the last time. Close to home and the staff was very friendly.
Great variety, insane prices. Go here if you'd like to get something you can't get anywhere else for half the price. That being said there is a LOT of specialty/more rare Plants. You will pay for it. I was thrilled to find some burros tails in good shape
You will never get ahold of them on the phone. That’s my only complaint. Otherwise they’re great. Very kind and knowledgeable staff. Just the lack of phone answering is frustrating!
Always very helpful.
This place is a mess...their phone is always busy! I don’t wanna mention that the prices are ridiculous
As the owner of Stewada Lawn, I frequent Spruce it Up for all my gardening and yard needs. The staff are knowledgeable and always willing to help a beginner gardner or a seasoned expert. The product selection is terrific and always high quality. Highly recommend Spruce it Up to all my clients and anyone else looking for anything Garden related!
Good selection of perennials, staff seems really nice on a busy day. New road in place for the entrance.
Was there for photo with Santa and reindeer. Friendly staff anf nice experience. 5 to 6 reindeers. Glad to see them taking good care of them during photo op.
The store won't honor its two year warranty, our shrub was dying within two weeks of purchasing and dead by third week, the staff is rude and blame us on not watering the plant which is not true, the same shrub was selling for half the price in CTire, with the two year warranty I think it was fair to charge more, not the case here where we were blamed and framed for mistreating the plant so that you can save a few bucks and not honor your warranty! I also would like to mention the other tree we bought a week earlier was just doing fine just so you know we are treating every plant we bought with care.
good selections
Pricey but beautiful
They had exactly what I wanted and got it to me promptly. Excellent service
I like to consider myself a pretty nice, normal community oriented person. To that end, I buy locally as much as possible to ensure big box stores don't take over and help to keep the people of my community employed and doing well. With that said I have always felt supporting these businesses was a quid pro quo - I pay considerably more money for a similar product and in return I am treated like a person vs just some schmo with money. In the case of Spruce it Up I was totally let down. To keep it short I spent over $1000.00 dollars there in one day and drove all the way from the NW. Everything seemed good until one plant died approx. 3wks after I bought it... it actually started to die a little quicker but I though it might come back. They never answered my multiple calls so when I arrived there with the plant I wanted to exchange. I was met by a nice you girl, who referred me to a rather frosty older woman who all but told me to leave and don't come back. I promptly went to Home Depot a few minutes away where I bought the exact same plant in a larger pot size for exactly half the price. As Calgarians know our climate is pretty harsh and not the easiest to grow in. While one might argue there is quality issue at stake when buying big box vs local I would be inclined to suggest whatever lives once you've got it in the ground is quality stock. I know rain or shine HD will take this plant back until I have one that's living... a pretty good deal in Calgary and the same goes for Costco. Do your best to support the community when you can but if you value your money, time and effort as the recent covid health crisis has shown so many of us... I would suggest your safer bet is going to one of the big stores and leaving spruce it up to rethink their customer relations.
The older guy driving the bobcat yesterday, Sept 12. Dropping f bombs in front of the customers? Getting angry with the truck driver delivering ? What are you running? He should work on a construction site, not a shop that serves customers.
Good stock for gardeners but cost is higher on items compared to other gardens centers.
Nice place, knowledgeable staff
We love SpruceIt Up ! Have been using them for years for landscaping to planting and pruning trees! Excellent work and prices are pretty good
Nice selection and good pricing. I will continue to shop here. Here is why I removed 1 - I walked in 15 minutes after you opened your doors so I believe I was the only one there.. The lady at the counter just looked at me and didn't say hi. I walked in to the green house area and passed 3 employees all talking to each other. I stood still a few feet away waiting for them to stop talking so I can get assistance - they all saw me but continued on chatting away. I gave up and walked away. When I was cashing out i asked about a product and she told me to go ask someone in the greenhouse, I explained I couldn't find any one who was free and she replied 'oh well'.
Lots of Vintage Stuff and Friendly Staff :) !
Beautiful plants, selection of some less common place things.
The best garden center in the country. Most knowledgeable staff along with selection and price points. Well worth the short drive to south Calgary
Great quality and selection. Love the plants, they are great quality, but can get pricey. The sod I bought was cheaper and bigger than the sod at Home Depot, so it all balances out. I will always support these guys a little each year.
These guys have done our front yard landscaping. All stages of the project from design to installation gave us only positive impressions. Definitely recommend.
Lovely setting. Like their expanded indoor plant section
We were looking for exterior Christmas decor, lots of great ideas. Look for forward to seeing what they have in the spring.
So many new items in stock, love this store for unique gifts!
Great selection of plant pots, nic nacs, and vegetable seeds at this garden center. However, for purchasing houseplants I would recommend Greengate over Spruce it Up. Plants seem to be much more expensive at Spruce it up, and not only that but many of the plants I purchased from Spruce it Up came home totally infested with fungus gnats and aphids. I have never had an issue with pests on my plants purchased from Greengate. The Spruce it up Employees seemed kind and helpful, aside from one employee who rushed us out of the store at 545 saying that they close soon so we needed to leave(they close at 6- which I was aware of). I was obviously purchasing hundreds of dollars of plants and products as my cart was totally full, so I was quite put off from this experience. The same employee took her mask off at the front desk while many customers were still in the store and in the line right in front of her. She also put a staple through one of my plants main leaves while packaging it up. If it weren’t for that one employee my rating would be slightly better. They have a decent selection of plants including some rarer finds that Greengate may not stock. If you’re in the market for rare beautiful houseplants, check out Plant it Modern.
Do yourself a favour and buy your trees elsewhere. The lady in the tree lot does not at all care about customer service. Her attitude when it comes to any concerns is basically take it or leave it. I see a number of comments here regarding tree issues and it is no wonder with the level of service they provide. They either need to fire their staff or they will continue to fire their customers.
Great service! They really know their stuff!
The owner is awesome there's so much nice stuff there it's worth the drive across town to visit
I went to this garden centre for the 1st time 2 days ago and the attitude of the staff left a bad taste in mouth. As I walked into the building there was an employee cleaning and she was in a very negative interaction with another employee and I could hear there banter back and forth. They obviously dont like each other. Plant selection here is very good. Although some of the perennials are not in good condition, many plants dont look healthy. I did manage to find some perennials. No employee greeted me or asked if I needed help. At the check out counter I was not greeted by the cashier neither was I thanked for my business. I was the only customer around at the time. All the cashier said was " there you go" I am unsure if I will go here again, as all I can remember, is the attitude of the staff.
Nice space. Well layed out and quality products.
Very happy with the landscaping and gardening services provided by Spruce It Up. They completed the work (which was a complete overhaul of our front and back yard: sod, paving stones, fence, etc) very quickly and efficiently. Curtis has been especially responsive and easy to deal with. Highly recommend.
Love, Love, love their huge selection.
Very crowded. I had better luck at Canadian Tire. Staff was helpful.
I think they always have the coolest selection of plants & you can always find stuff that's hard to find at other plant stores in Calgary (they're one of the only places I can find carnivorous plants). Love their selection of pots for plants as well! They are definitely the best place to go to find larger sized pots for your bigger plants
Love this store. So many beautiful stuff.
Super fun place to buy plants and they have so much variety, staff also seem happy to be working there. Bought this pilea and put with my friend and I love it.
Huge selection, knowledgeable staff, beautiful products.
My favourite place to get plants of all kinds!
Helpful staff
Found what I needed, but customer service was not great. Employee made me feel like I should know what product was about when I started to ask question I was cut short and told to follow directions on product.
Friendly help and good source of local gardening info.
Decent selection of garden supplies but staff were unfriendly and unhelpful. Not worth the drive.
So pleased with the superlative work Spruce it up did on our trees! The crew were friendly, punctual, super informative, hard working and efficient. Their customer service from beginning to end was Incredible. Will definitely recommend to everyone. Very happy we found Spruce it up.
Excellent Selection
Very awesome place. The tree selection for mid season is impressive.
Great selection.
Wonderful sale today great customer service
Great place to wander around while thinking about how to improve your garden. Friendly and helpful staff
I’ve recently decided to replace all people in my life with plants. As such, this place is a godsend. I went midday on a weekday, and there were plenty of staff around to answer my questions. I was shopping for houseplants and succulents, and there was a great selection. The plants I bought (monstera and aloe) were happy and healthy, and reasonably priced. I’ll definitely be back when the weather warms up for my outdoor spaces!
I love this place. I alway find something that would beautify my garden or my home ❤
Visited the center over the weekend. Find it very expensive. Over $250 for 6-8 feet tall tree. Not even counting GST + other costs. If I were to buy four trees I’m likely to spend almost a grand. Which is like 50% of your monthly mortgage. You may not get all the variations but I would rather plant a tree from a seed or visit Costco or Superstore garden centres. This place is huge and has tons of variety trees or other garden products. Very well organized and clean too.
I called 20 mins before we went to make sure they had a certain kind of tree and when we got there they in fact did not have it. Then when I was talking to a staff member another employee came up and interrupted, so I left and won't be back, looking to landscape our whole place, 3 trees and shrubs....will being going to greengate due to the poor service.
I absolutely loved this place. The staff was amazing- so informative and kind. They made my 9 year old son feel so special on our outting together by chatting with him and hearing his gardening ideas. Thank you!
Best selection of pots and other decor items! Great plant selections as well. Not to mention staff was helpful, friendly and informative. Thank you for being open! I will absolutely be back.
I would not even give a 1 if possible. We hired them to come out and take 5 rest off the top of our tree that is 20 years growth. Nope they cut at least five feet of the entire branches from the Bottom of our weeping birch tree. This will never grow back and now the tree looks Terrible.
Don’t get your bulk gravel/sand or other rock materials here. The inexperienced kids (literally they are children) who load you with the materials ALWAYS damage trucks. The owner-Brad, knows it and doesn’t care. They make you sign a waiver saying they aren’t responsible because they know they will do damage. Don’t say I didn’t warn you!
Always a good place to shop.
Very friendly and helpful staff!
Great available stock
So many awesome things for decoration. Plants are great, as well.
Best landscaping business I’ve ever dealt with. The owner is very helpful and deals with any question I have. He even came over to help us place trees for the best privacy. Such a great person! Even gives his community a discount when shopping there! Amazing!
We had our deck and pergola built by Spruce It Up and we absolutely love it! The entire experience from getting the quote through to the end product was excellent ! The quality and attention to detail far exceeded our expectation! The timely manner in which everything was completed was amazing! Anyone thinking of building a deck, you have to call Spruce It Up! I can't say enough good things about them!
First time going to Spruce it up. The staff were very friendly, even to my grumpy 5 year old. There is a great variety of house plants and the staff was very informative about all of them. Well definitely be coming back in the spring when I start my outdoor/indoor projects.
Wow...lots of plants...decorations...good prices!
Nice garden center
Over hyped
Tons of flowers, plants and trees with everything else you require for a yard including masonry bricks and large ceramic pots
They have a good stock. Trees, shrubs, stones, boulders and a lot more. Found them little cheaper then other places.
I purchased a Rose Tree for $90 then to find the exact same at Home Depot for around $40. I reached out to Spruce it up for an answer on fb and they removed my comment 4 times with no answer (except once on my last comment stating that “my comment was in correct as these are $ 34.99” I had picked another rose post as I was tired of finding their original post ????). Another person commented (before my last comment was removed) and explained that the price markup is likely from the amount that they purchased compared to large box stores - I totally understand, but I find it hard to believe that there is a $50 difference in their cost to the box stores. After all my comments had been removed I called the store and left a msg (24h return time) that was almost 64h now with no call back... I’m not looking for my money back, I’m looking for an apology as to how you have handled the situation, very unprofessional
Knowledgeable, friendly staff. Enough merchandise on site for most yard and garden projects. Prices are somewhat comparable to big box stores.
Please have your staff focus on customer service. Encourage your staff to bring their best selves to work everyday and avoid treating customers like second class citizens. I'm going to avoid Spruce It Up for my future tree and shrub purchases. The lady that my wife and I spoke to was very rude and condescending. Actually laughed at one of our questions - do you have an on-line inventory of what's available? A simple, unfortunately, we don't have an on-line inventory would have sufficed - she decided to make a scene and belittle my wife and I for asking that question. Nonetheless, there's other places near by that we received great service from.
Great service. Very knowledgeable and willing to go the extra mile
Lots of healthy plants. Going back soon!
Great plants
Staff were knowledgeable and friendly they had little bit of problems with cash register but they handled it good,I go back again.
The worst experience I have had in many years with any business. They are are terrible business people. Very rude and refuse to help anyone. I will never return to this business. I imagine they won't be around very long. I certainly wouldn't rely on them for any landscaping work. Whatever you do, go elsewhere.
It's nice... A little out of the way for most but good parking and lots of plants, trees, pots everything you need...but a little overpriced (on planters not plant material)
I have been shopping almost exclusively from Spruce for years now. The owner (Meryl) is a very experienced gardner in our climate, and the store is the real deal when it comes to landscape products and services. The Rage Plus, the 16-32-6 grass fertilizer and the CocoMoss bails are enough reason to go check this store out. I would feel 100 percent confident purchasing any of their products or services, and you can be assured of relevant advice in these matters. Meryl can be heard weekly on his Sunday morning radio show giving such advice over the airwaves (NewsTalk 770 AM).
The staff is very knowledgeable
Really great staff educated about indoor plans and price is good too
First time visiting this garden centre today. I was extremely disappointed with my experience there. Staff walked right passed me while I struggled to carry plants. The cashier was extremely rude. She didn't greet me even though she was friendly with both the caucasian women in front of me and the older caucasian gentleman behind me. She was irritated with me as I was having a hard time picking up the tropical soil up on the counter. She was annoyed that I didn't slide the plant closer to her to scan even though it was on the counter and she could see I was clearly trying to figure out how to bring the soil to her. Just handed me my receipt without even a simple thank you or do you need help with that. Nothing. It's unfortunate that people can be this unpleasant. As an Asian woman it is difficult to ignore the obvious signs of discrimination. Will not return and it's unfortunate because they have beautiful plants.
excellent customer service and they did a great job trimming a massive tree we have in our front yard. Will definitely be coming back
It is tough to know where to begin regarding our experience with Spruce It Up. Our yard is quite sloped in the front and presented a bit of a challenge. We had called several landscape companies and had them do an initial assessment. Most of them arrived and wanted us to decide what to do with our yard. Even though we had a vague idea, I thought the design of such was a big part of their job. When Merle, Curtis and Joanna arrived for our appointment, they had such a wonderful vision for possibilities and were able to articulate that to us in such a way that we were so excited to get started. We can't say that the work performed was cheap but neither is the result and they stuck to their quoted price. We asked them to be finished on a certain day due to the arrival of house guests, they were complete the day before the deadline. Shane runs a crew of very happy employees who always greeted us with a smile. Shane handled any questions or concerns very professionally. He is a perfectionist at heart and it shines in the final product. We also had them do a clean up on the backyard including new brick to contain the flower beds, grading the beds for better drainage from the garage and I have to mention that even the parts not immediately visible to the eye were finished as though they were. We had done some renos last year and the battle with the contractor was heartbreaking and exhausting. I can't emphasize enough the professionalism, perfectionism, and overall attention to detail of this team and they did it all without any damage to the neighboring yards. We are still experiencing people stopping their cars out front and giving us the "thumbs up". Thank you. Well done! I must also mention that we are redoing some of our planting in the back yard now. If you get the chance when you are in the store, speak with Zoe. She is kind, patient and an absolute wealth of plant knowledge.
Great customer service, informative and helpful
Hi there. I was at your business a while ago (late May) while in Calgary. We are moving from central Alberta to our dream land in southern Alberta. We have so much room for trees, but I know very little about the type of trees I wanted that would grow well, both short-term and long-term results. As I'm in the research stage before our move, I have visited a couple garden centres and yours was the last on my list. I can hardly express to you how satisfied I was and how much I learned from one of your employees. She was absolutely spot on with her knowledge (I checked it out later) and was one of the friendliest attendants I have come across in a very long time. We are definitely buying our trees from Spruce it Up. This same employee also invited to come at Christmas time with the family to take family photos.... what a great idea! I'm sure it will be decorated beautifully! We are definitely returning to do that. Unfortunately, I cannot recall her name.... Malorie, Valerie, maybe Callie, something very close. I do hope you know which employee I am referring to.... She was a little older with brown curly hair and was in the teee lot. Again, thanks for the superb experience we had there. The prices were a little more than we antiticipated, but the knowledge was worth the extra costs. See you soon with my Visa card!
Great place to visit. Great staff.
Saskatoon Farm was great. Lots of things to do and purchase. Just have money. But the time spent with those close to u is just incredible!!!
Nice selection though prices were a big high
Spruce it up is groovy
Great selection but completely useless if you need anything delivered... "where would you like your gravel dropped?"-driver..."right side of the driveway so we don't get blocked into our garage"-us..."well it lands where it lands"-driver... Well, they made sure it landed on the exact opposite side of our driveway from what was requested. A bargain when you consider paying $110 for that platinum delivery service.
Contracted Spruce It Up to complete the landscaping on our new home in Riverstone. Meryl, Conrad, Luke and Cole and the rest of the landscaping crew were awesome to deal with and they did a great job!
Quality products, vivid shopping friendly. Lots of selection
Great service!
Great advice on how to manage my newly planted trees that seemed to be dying after planting them. I used the fertilizer they suggested, and my trees are now thriving! Quality of plants is very good.
Couldn’t believe it. Received my order same day. This is my first experience with you and l was really impressed.
Fantastic garden center! It has everything you need to make your yard beautiful and friendly helpful staff
Very friendly staff. However the operation hours on their web not updated. So last time I went there after work there are only 15min to the closing time.
Succulents and Cactus!! Bought so much from here!
Book firewood online at 2pm and had delivery same day !! cool store to
Nice place with lots of options. Will be going back for more....
