Beautiful place for walking and relaxing

Beautiful charming place in the middle of the city with great views of the city. Very peaceful. Kids love going there as well.

My favorite hidden gem in Calgary

Excellent variety of species and very beautiful views. A real historical gem.

Beautiful and extensive gardens, though not for those with limited mobility. Restaurant is nice though somewhat limited selection.

My kids and I enjoy wandering through Reader Rock Garden so much. There is so much wonder to discover when investigating all the different flowers. Such a peaceful little spot within our city.

Gardens are full of beautiful flowers. We went there on a Thursday afternoon and it wasnt very busy. Watch out for the pollinators though. One flew up my skirt and stung me .

This is a beautiful place to visit no matter what the time of year as each season has its own Beauty

One of our city's most beautiful spots

One of Calgarys best kept secrets! Shhhhh...

Beautiful - so beautiful! Looking forward to meandering around next spring!

Beautiful but you have to get a permit to take photos here and hard to access parking lot!

A huge variety of flowers

Great walk through a nice garden before a morning coffee date

Very peaceful and beautiful

This place is like no other its a piece of heaven on earth I cant put into words this olace you must see it for yourself

Good for pictorial on weddings and other gatherings.

A beautiful re-creation of the original Reader garden.

Beautiful grounds ! Cafe was yummy ????

Beautiful place. Was there for a wedding. Perfect setting.

A womderful.piece of paridise in The intercity

A hidden oasis of lush plants and trees hidden here. We were at the cottage for a private event. Well done and staff were attentive and friendly.

Beautiful set of gardens within Calgary. The history of the gardens is very interesting. If you like horticulture it's a must visit with plants flowering from spring through fall.

Never been here before. Hidden in a clump of trees I have passed a million times. There a restraunt at the top of the hill. Will have to go for bunch.

Excellent food, excellent service, beautiful gardens! Been visiting for s few years now..always excellent!

I have lived here 20 years and didn't even know this place existed. It is a small inner city park, but for a brief moment you can feel like your in a forest in BC. Very relaxing.

It's a very beautiful place. It is free for any one.

Lovely place to be

great photo location

An unexpected find next to the Stampede grounds. Pretty and peaceful, my daughter and I spent a couple of hours wandering around admiring all the flowers.

Beautiful garden to stroll through

Visited this spot to take pregnancy pictures. We went early before it was open so can't speak about more than the scenery, which was amazing. Didn't see much of the area but I am very happy with the small area we took our pictures. I'd add photos but won't be seeing them myself for at least a week. Beautiful place though.

This is a fantastic inner city oasis. Plenty of paths to roam and plenty of flora and fauna.lol. Solid footware suggested due to inclines and rockey pathways.

Cool place

Amazing place with scenic natural beauty, must visit. Cafe serves exceptionally great Lasagna and Lemonade. It is easily accessible from CTrain station and hosts adequate parking space as well.

Very beautiful garden. Not too busy. The cafe was closed so I can't comment on the food quality, however it looks quite quaint and cozy. I'll be heading back again when the cafe is open.

Pretty walking oaths in the center of the city.

Beautiful! In a couple of weeks the gardener says more flowers will be out

Beautiful garden in the city. Close to Stampede Park. Hope to try the cafe next year when it reopens.

lovely place

Beautiful wild flower garden with hidden pathways, benches and green spaces.

Beautiful secluded garden near downtown that is a wonderful natural escape from the city. Beautiful flowers, shrubbery and stone pathways. Lovely water features and garden benches thru the gardens.

This is such an amazing place to visit whether it is spring, summer or fall.

Beautiful garden with amazing pathways and lots of flowers and trees.

Great place to come and look at plants in the spring and summer!

I've been in Calgary 12 years and never knew about this place until recently. We took our 14mo and he LOVED IT! Some of the paths were steep for carrying him, but the gardens are incredible. Really looking forward to visiting the cafe!

Besides the creepy senses of cemetery, it has its own sense of arts that's really interesting for those who like to do such differences in out doors.

Nice place

A beautiful garden in the middle of the city. The Union Cemetery backs onto it. There is a lovely looking cafe but it was closed for a wedding when we were there. The gardens were lovely though. Mind your step along the path as it can be quite uneven. Not ideal for some types of mobility issues.

Hidden gem of the city. Garden is beautiful and romantic. Great for a walk and conversation in the garden.

Beautiful gardens and a nice place for a quiet walk. Mostly shaded so it’s a great spot for a hot day.

Short walkway area. Lots of greenery and flowers. Cemetery beside. Tough with stroller as pathway is steep and bumpy but only for a short time.

Beautiful in summer but not so much now in fall when most of the leaves have fallen. Can't wait to go again next year!

Beautiful little spot right in the heart of the city great little spot for a walk! Lots 0f history

Very unique park

Great

So beautiful!

Amazing garden that is accessible for almost every one most areas are wheel chair accessible.Blown away by the amount of diversity.A must see for gardeners of any age!.

Very pleasant experience if visiting early morning hours and during the week. Small garden, but tasteful developed and maintained. Reading and painting opportunities. Relaxing oasis of green trees and local flowers.

So cool that I was tempted to give 1 star to keep it unpopular.

I'm not much of a reader anymore, but the garden is beautiful.

Gorgeous place to chill

Such an unexpected place

I go there frequently, every time there are some different kinds of flowers blooming and is a new experience. This is a very nice places to spend a morning or afternoon.

A gem of a park, beautifully restored, lots of little trails and nooks to explore, and a quiet mini oasis in the middle of a bustling city.

Directly across from the Stampede grounds, the garden has many quiet benches and places to sit and enjoy the peaceful gardens which have a large variety of flowers. There's also a cafe and info on the flowers provided throughout.

Definitely a hidden gem in the middle of the city. Well laid out and a huge project that must have taken an enormous amount of work

Great place for a short hike or a nice place to read a book

Beautiful place. I wish it had more flowers and was even bigger than it is. Great place for grads and weddings. Very secluded and not well known. Keep it that way.

One of my favorite places in this city

Lovely, quiet garden to enjoy through the seasons.

Just discovered this beautiful garden

Very cool trails and many different plant species

This is an amazing place for a walk or to enjoy nature. Beautiful stone walks with steam and trees

Beautiful, quiet garden with stunning flowers and plants. Highly recommend.

Beautiful place.

This is a great unknown park that is a hidden gem in Calgary’s core. It is like the senator burns formal gardens but even more full of flowers, trees, and beautiful features. As an English rock garden it is s good example of its type and I wish Calgary would use it as a model for newer parks and green spaces as it is a calm and relaxing place year round. Parking is free and it is close to transit so I recommend stopping by anytime.

Such a great place, you really need to go several times during the spring and summer to see all of the different blooms. Bring your own drinks though because the cafe seemed lost by our request for coffee to go and not many kid friendly drinks. They have a high tea there I definitely want to check out!

(Translated) Breathtaking! (Original) Époustouflant!

So cute here

Lovely brunch, in an amazing peaceful setting just off a major thoroughfare.

I suggest going with someone to hold onto in the winter, the hills are dangerously slippery.

No idea what this is quite Frankly? No money to do anything enjoyable anyway in this ongoing hostage scenario

it was beautiful

Not an easy location to get to, especially for elder people, like my mom and dad who are in their 80's. Food was ok, Luke warm in temperature at best.

Gorgeous gardens. We rented Western Slope garden for our wedding and it was perfect. Kendra at the city was extremely accommodating and communicative in helping us secure the reservation. She was incredibly patient with several date changes. This is an excellent and affordable place to get married. Only thing to note is that it isn’t the most quiet place as it’s right on the highway. But it’s stunning and romantic nonetheless in my opinion.

Beautiful place and interesting history. We had our engagement photos done here a few years ago.

Hidden gem hardly anyone knows but right in the middle of the city.

A beautiful quiet oasis in the city and a lovely spot for photos.

(Translated) The garden in full bloom in early June was wonderful. (Original) 6월 초에 가니 꽃이 활짝 핀 가든이 멋졌습니다.

Eerily quiet and would not recommend if you are not comfortable strolling through a cemetery (as the paths seem to connect). There is not much of a path to stroll but there are a handful of benches to sit and relax. Would recommend visiting when flowers are in bloom, otherwise not much to see.

Gem of a garden! Great for a 30-60 min stroll. So beautiful with all the plants on retraining walls and between cobble stone pathways. I recommend stopping in!

It's a restaurant in a park and it was packed when I went. Nice place and the food was good. Service was a little slow as the limited number of staff were trying to cope. It seems to attract an older clientele.

Love this place - always interesting for anyone that would like to get some gardening ideas. They are still working on overhauling - big task that takes time ..

Calm and serene

Beautiful landscape, such a peaceful walk through all the little paths every where.

We had a late summer Sunday brunch in this magical spot a couple of weeks ago. The surroundings are truly unique and the perfect spot for a nice walk to view the gardens after having a great breakfast. Don't miss the quiche!

Nice

Wonderful place to wander about and visit with some of Calgary's longer time residents!

Yet another well kept Calgary secret.

beautiful but not accessible for disabled folks to go walking around on their own.

Fantastic food. Locally sourced. And also was really cool they added some edible flowers in the dishes. Very well put together. Will definitely go here agian!

Beautiful stroll in the gardens and a cute cafe with some delicious treats

Beautiful place to relax, great for photography. When the cafe is open it has phenomenal food

Hidden gem in YYC

Public transport (Erlton C-train stop) makes it very easy for anyone to reach this beautiful attraction. Reader's gardens are best visited on a nice day and those are usually the days that it gets most busy here. The gardens are not very big, but they're divided into a few distinct areas. I'd suggest you first get to the cafe and work your way from there. Exploring is best done when you aren't hungry.

Bit early in the spring yet, but looks great all cleaned up and ready for planting

What a beautiful little secret in the middle of Calgary.

Beautiful garden and great view of the city!

Charming

Lovely little garden in inner city and it's FREE! It suggests an hour to walk through the entire grounds which is relatively accurate depending on how much time you sit and rest or scrutinize over the type of flowers planted. Great place to get away while not leaving the city or for someone who loves gardens.

One of the most beautiful gardens in the city. Take your loved ones for a stroll amongst the flowers and don't forget to stop at the café! There are multiple rocky paths, one curving at a gentle incline that will take you past everything, and others that branch off amongst the flowers. Accessible? Main path: yes

One of Calgary's true gems. Always a pleasure to walk through and there's something new to see every time you visit.

Nice quiet garden to walk around. Opposite feel to the Stampede next door.

Great

An underrated gem in Calgary's lackluster open garden scene. You must visit this place if you live here, but it's a pass for tourists. It's a place for those that want a Van Dusen Garden experience but can't afford to go to Vancouver. Or you just want something different from the artificial vibe you get from the recently redeveloped Devonian Garden. Great place to go during the summer or early fall. You'll spend an hour here, or maybe a bit more if you're into photography. Because it's Calgary, I give a place like this a generous five star rating.

Very nice gardens. Nice plants, shrubs and trees but not a lot in bloom when we went Aug 30, 2021. Need to research ahead of time to determine best time of year to go.to.see the most blooms.

This garden is truly a hidden gem. There's lots of small footpaths to explore the gardens and the cafe at the top of the hill is really nice.

So beautiful! I love Fall and this is an amazing spot to see the beautiful Fall colours!

One of the best open public gardens.

Limited menu selection, very expensive, but great ambiance and environment. Service was rather slow.

Secret garden in the city.

Beautiful! Great place for a walk, very relaxing and historic site.

Serene

A little oasis in the city. Albeit small but beautiful!

Wear comfy shoes, as there is climbing steps to get to the cafe and fully explore the gardens. Beautiful area, fully walk and experience within an hour. Take a camera with you, phones do not do this place justice! Many benches for readers and sitting spaces. No animals, smoking or outside food allowed on site.

Gorgeous!

Lovely!

Amazing food and beautiful

(Translated) The park is beautiful to spend a quiet time and has a nice panoramic view (Original) El parque es hermoso para pasar un rato tranquilo y tiene una bonita vista panorámica

A great space to roam that transports you out of the city and into a slice of history! Well worth multiple visits to see the progression of the floral life.

It's a must see and it's free

Vary pretty Vary pretty Vary rocky Vary rocky

Its a quiet place to go.

Nice and peaceful. With lots of flowers and beautiful colors...

Above average food quality. Orders are like 85%-95% correct

A hidden gem in Calgary! Beautiful in the spring and summer.

Very Good collection of flowers.

New to the city, wife found this sweet spot right in the city.

Great ambience and very beautiful location. Good for making a soothing and refreshing. A must go place to attain calmness and ofcourse for taking great pictures !!

Excellent

Beautiful park. Small but pretty trails to climb into flowered gardens. Great for quiet time, reading, picnics.

A wonderful location for an outdoor wedding, where our string ensembles (solo violin or cello, violin and cello duo, trio and string quartet) often perform here during the summer months. Recommended.

Great park with a nice Cafe atop the hill

Winter time here is pretty cool, too! It’s not very busy and there a lot of great little trails and interpretative signs. Plus. If you’re not weirded out by walking through the cemetery, it is a beautiful walk, too. I think of it as visiting a beautiful resting place for past Calgarians. And a great view.

Beautiful flowers.

A beautiful space.

A nice quiet stroll

Lovely paths to get lost in and a very peaceful and relaxing atmosphere.

Beautiful nature along a majestic pathway

Beautiful!

Great Place to Walk, have a Picnic and enjoy your surroundings. Lots of birds and flowers. Bring Bug Spray, Mosquitos are Fierce!! Not to mention hungry!

The history contained within the site is something to marvel at. Scenic view of skyline included.

An amazing spot!!!

What a hidden gem!! Come for breakfast and wash it down with their delicious lava cake. The waitress had me sold on it when she said it would be a 10 minute wait for it to bake in the oven. Well worth the wait! I'm glad more people don't know about this place because it allows you to take it in and enjoy it in peace. I also recommend taking a stroll through the connecting cemetery, Calgary has a lot of history, why not learn some while honoring our heroes.

Probably not the best time of year for seeing the garden but I could see how beautiful it would be in the spring and early summer. the Cafe was great, food delicious and the staff professional and wonderful.

A hidden gem! Sweet seasonal little cafe tucked in the flowers of the garden. Magical.

This is a great park. I do professional photography and this is a great place for people photography. Some open spaces, lots of pathways, small and large, plenty of shades, plenty of steps, plenty of place to do sitting poses too.

Nice little garden in the middle of the city

Reservations recommended

Very nice well maintained garden. Always a pleasure to walk alongvthe numerous winding paths surrounded by a variety of flora.

I don't want you to read this review this is such a super secret that nobody knows about

Wonderfully romantic garden with a cute cafe. Excellent place for a wedding.

The variety of plants make it seem like an oasis in the busy city. The verdant landscape will be even more beautiful when the plants mature

Pretty and interesting

Beautiful gardens to go for a walk in close proximity to downtown. Skip the cafe, the food was mediocre and expensive.

Gorgeous rock garden. Really a hidden gem in our city

very nice and clean place

Absolutely beautiful spot in the summertime

Very quite , hard to believe it's in the city

One of the recommended parks to visit in Calgary. Just note that not all paths are accessible by stroller or wheelchair.

One of the city's hidden gems. I've lived 200m from this place for more than ten years, and had no idea it was here.

I look forward to visiting this place in the summer when all the flowers and trees are bloomed.

new place to visit. need to visit again. plus the cafe

The Reader Rock Garden is one of the peaceful and restful place amidst downtown.

First Nation display VG

Absolutely a hiden gem worth checking out any time of the day.

Well worth it to check that garden out, relax 30 min and take some pictures. I came walking but observed plenty of parking. Like most of Calgary's attractions/locations, this place is clean and well maintained.

What a hidden jem!! I am in love with this place.

Beautiful tresure in Calgary! Not very visited which makes it more special. Best moment to go is in spring when you can see all the plants blooming. Beautiful! No dogs allowed in the premises

Really nice place for a short walk, I really enjoyed the paths!

Gorgeous way to spend an afternoon in the park and the food is great.

A lovely little spot in the middle of the city! So much history which has been recorded well on all of the plaques throughout the park. I think the day after I went there was a big unveiling of something, so I'll have to go back soon. I think that this park will change throughout the seasons with what is in bloom, so one visit isn't enough!

So beautiful! A hidden gem if you like flowers!

A wonderful experience. Special treatment good food and the garden is amazing.

Relaxing little garden. Lovely place to unplug!

This garden is magical and delightful. The flowers are beautiful, the pathway system is kind of mysterious but friendly. Absolute gem of a garden in the middle of the city.

Beautiful place for a walk and lovely cafe

They have a rental Meeting room in bsmt of the Cafe / Restaurant.

Beautiful, some very nice spots, well cared for.

Beautiful for grad photos

Didn't go into the garden but there is acne there. Nice setting for reflection.

The Reader Rock Garden is a delightful place to visit in Calgary and it is FREE! It is an Oasis between Stampede park and Union cemetery. It is a venue of historical significance to Calgary as visitors can learn on a number of places of interest as you traverse the facility. You do have to be mindful to focus on your walking as it is located on a fairly steep slope and the pathways are made of stone so appropriate footwear is advisable. There are a multitude of different flora species to view. It is a very creative use of a difficult area, strongly recommended, you will not regret it.

Lovely venue. Quiche was delicious. Edible flowers were a nice touch. Coffee was a little weak

A good place for seniors

Beautiful inner city gem of a garden.

Great gardens in bloom this year.

Park in the city centre offering a quiet space for walks, reading, and small group hang out. This garden is surprisingly not as busy considering strategic location and beauty it has to offer, not to mention the parking currently made available to visitors at no cost. The variety of plants you can see is huge. The history of the garden is worth reading.

This is locared at the heart of the city, just few blocks away from downtown. The view of Calgary tower and downtown buildings is simply super. The garden is very peaceful, wide variety of plants, flowering and non flowering, well maintained and the gardening staff were very cool and polite. This place with all flowering plants and big trunk trees and wild birds, squirrel, it's colorful and amazing spot to visit and fantastic spot to nature photographers. I don't know how it would be on weekends though, if you visit on weekdays, it's very quite and no much people and its best time to visit is weekday. ????

Beautiful place

Quiet place in thee middle of city centre. Perfect for having a private picnic or just get away from the crowd and noise of every day life. Nicely maintained! Mosquitos can be a nuisance, but relatively minor.

Really cute location!

Great garden, but the restaurant closed early.

Amazing food and service.

Very scenic Garden in the inner city in Calgary

Quiet, peaceful, beautiful, birds were singing and the air was full of wonderful scents

This is a beautiful garden with lots of flowers. I like macro photography, I almost go there every week in summer time. Cause you can see different flowers blooming each week.

Beautiful!

It was very well maintained and close to downtown. Strongly recommend this garden!

It was amazing place to visit, was able to get my son's graduation photos done with no disruption! We are going back soon just to visit!!

Peaceful little spot in the city.

Beautiful, quiet, quaint space

Lovely place for a picnic

Beautiful !

Cool garden to explore. Lots of varieties of flowers to see and just a nice place to chill near the city. I saw people picnicking in a few areas and some reading books on the benches in a peaceful environment. This place would be nice for yoga too if want to be surrounded by nice plants.

Beautiful little haven space just out of the downtown area

Absolutely beautiful gardens and such a charming house!

Beautiful flowers!.

Beautiful peaceful park

Great inner city park. Peaceful and full of colourful flowers, great place for kids and adults alike to see nature

Interesting piece of Calgary history not well known.

A great oasis in the middle of the city

Beautiful flowers

It's so lovely, I'm going to try not to miss the cafe next season ????

Depending on the number of people it's one of if not the most serene place in the city. Absolutely gorgeous.

What a fun 2 days back,.,,, flowers nd flowers ...real beauty ...real peace is here....rocking garden.., click pictures of flowers❤️

Beautiful peaceful place for a walk, nice place to relax or just sit and read.????

Very Peaceful

The gardens are both historic and peaceful. It is a great place for contemplation and reflection amidst babbling brooks beautiful trees well manicured lawns and well planned flower gardens. There is a restaurant also a historic design that is quaint and relaxing boasting a unique menu for brunch/ lunch dining.

This garden is beautiful. You could come every week and see differ blooms each time.

Absolutely stunning! The landscaping is breathtaking and there is so much to see. It is a bit of a hike up hills and stone stairs, but worth it for all the pretty flowers and greenery. We went for a picnic and it was everything we imagined and more. We didn't get to the cafe that day but the outside was beautiful and I can't wait to go again!

Wonderful place for a picnic! Very quite for a park in the city
