Not as large as other nurseries in YYC, but they have quite a broad selection of good quality plants. You may even get discounts for buying in multiples (ie. 5 or more herbs for $3.99 each or 3 or more at $5.99 each compared to $6.99ea). The decorations, fertilizer, soil, and gardening tools and accessories can be on the pricier side, so you may want to compare and shop around for those. They also carry Stihl tools!

Prices are comparable with other greenhouses in the area Green gate is the only place we have found large bromeliads for our vivarium builds The only downfall is in google maps directions trying to exit the parking lot trying to get up to the main road also I don’t think there is a public washroom

Love green gate. The staff have not always been the friendliest, but the vibe in the store and the large greenhouses massively outweigh any negative employee experience. Selection and stock varies greatly throughout the year, but at the correct times one can find an endless selection of seeds, bulbs, live plants, trees and more.

I needed some plants for my garden and went to Greengate. I was delighted with the way they organized everything. The customer service is phenomenal, especially the young cashier at the register on the left of the exit door. For some reason, when I was to pay, everything she entered disappeared from the screen, so after she apologized very sweet she quickly started all over again; in a minute a coworker( who I think was in her brake time) jump in to help . Awesome ! Was worthy for me to drive all the way from Carseland.

They have everything from Christmas trees, barbecue spices and rubs, yard tools, smokers, bbq's, and the greenhouse has green plants year round. Succulents, ferns, tropical plants, baby trees, moss, soils, pots of various sizes, some glazed some not, plant food, and decorative statues, pictures, and wind chimes.

Most of our experience shopping at Greengate has been fine except for our more recent one in buying a $75.00 Christmas tree on about the 6th of December. We also purchased 'wiltpruf' $25.00 bottle, a product to prevent the tree from drying out which we sprayed all over the tree. The tree looked fine, full and healthy when we bought it but 3 or 4 days later we noticed it loosing needles more and more everyday. Within a week, needles fell off just by touching the tree at any part of the branches. 10 days after purchase we realized that the tree was not going to last until Christmas so we made the sad decision to take the tree down which left a carpet of needles on the floor. We did not feel like going to the trouble of taking the tree back and getting a new one so we're out of luck this season. We'll certainly make the decision to shop elsewhere for our Christmas trees in the future. Edited to add, we gave the tree plenty of fresh water everyday and got it in water as soon as we got home.

Update Jan 2021, I've visited 6 more times since my last review, as I am weekly in the area. While the floor staff are helpful (around Christmas and after), I find the ladies at the till, very unfriendly. It doesn't matter what time a day or what day I go, they just seem like they don't want to provide any friendliness to their customers whatsoever. I had talked to the lady manager once too, and I see where they get their training from. Older review: Less selection in between Christmas and spring but to be expected. I was wanting to buy a $130 wind chime (wood special made) but it was hanging up & none in boxes. I couldn’t find anyone to help me out. They have a good selection still but not much for discounted items. I may have stopped later in the day, but most staff was just waiting to leave. I’ve purchased items I really like here. Probably better to go in the morning or daytime. I didn’t feel too welcomed there. It’s convenient on my way home so I stop by. But I’ve been to plenty of other garden centres with more help & advice & friendliness. Convenient location.

I called the store to ask about my pothos plants that I had purchased less than a month ago , just to be put on hold for 20minutes. I got impatient and hung up and called minutes later, I told the lady on the phone that my plant leaves were turning yellow and that it was very limp. I told her I don’t have the receipt but I had my credit card statement which I could provide. She assured me that they have a 90 day policy and I could return it and get a store credit but not a refund , great! I will drive across the city that day to replace my pothos with something else. At customer service I explained to the girl my situation, she said it was fine and called the manager over to see if we could find out the price of the plants. We walked over and got the price , I paid $164 for each. I get back to the cash register to receive my store credit when she tells me that , it’s their store policy to give half of the money ??? What??? Why wasn’t I told of this right from the beginning?? I had prove of purchase! I can not believe the lack of customer service , last time I ever shop there!

We picked up sweet pea seeds to plant along our southern facing link wire fence. They tolerate frost and can be planter earlier. We also inquired about bedding out sky blue morning glory. The morning glory that have hair are easy to grow and are hardier than the hairless sky blue variety. ???? Previous years I grew from seed I found shortly after they begin flowering we get frost that kills them. So bedding out gives them a head start and more blooms before our early fall frost arrives.

Has whatever you need for your garden and the staff will answer any questions you have about products sold in store. I've also come here around Christmas and getting a tree is easy and fun. It's always nice to come here instead of big chain garden centres because it feels a little more personal and enjoyable.

I was very disappointed in a staff members reaction to my daughter's service dog in training this afternoon. Due to our dogs breed this staff member said "I doubt she'll ever become a service dog". She also repeatedly tried to pet the dog, even though she was asked not to. Throughout my daughter's time shopping in your store, comments continued such as, "I'd be curious to know if she actually becomes a service dog". Overall, a very discriminating and upsetting experience. ????

When some of their plants died, we took them back and were told that they were not cared for properly and they refused to compensate us. One of them died spontaneously within the warranty period and greengate has been extremely difficult and resistant to following through on the warranty. Best Garden Centre in the city. Greengate often has a selection of rarer tropicals like Nepenthes (carnivorous pitcher plants), exotic orchids (Miltonia, Oncidium, Dendrobium, etc), a great array of cacti/succulents, and other things like that. I once picked up a "Platinum" Peace Lilly there...people who know plants regularly point it out in my collection and ask about it -- one of my favourite plants for sure because it's extremely unique looking and hard to find.

We had an excellent experience at Green Gate yesterday! During the course of our purchase we'd spoken to/were assisted by 5 different staff members, and they all were absolutely wonderful to deal with. The lady who'd assisted us with our tree purchase was so kind and had answered our questions and didn't make us feel silly for asking any of them (we're first time tree planters so we had a few). The cashier we'd spoke with next was very friendly and the gentleman who arranged/directed the pick-up of our purchase was also very nice. Lastly, the two young men who loaded our purchases into our vehicle were also very nice and very helpful. We really liked how Greengate loaded our large items in the vehicle for us, this was an excellent service and was much appreciated.

I went here to get a new hose sprayer but also needed information about a problem with my evergreens. I was told to talk to Michael and he was incredible! Once I showed him a picture of the needles and what was on them, he quickly identified the problem and was able to tell me exactly how to treat it. As well, he gave me information about what to do in the 'dormant' stage as well as how to treat it in the 'active' stage. Just as important, he told me which products to avoid for Colorado Blue Spruce, as some of the treatments for other spruce trees can damage the Colorado Spruce. Needless to say, I purchased the products he recommended and will be treating my trees accordingly. I was very impressed with his knowledge and, he backed it up by showing me pictures and descriptions in one of their prairie treatment books. Thanks Michael!

Prices are more expensive in comparison to larger, chain stores, but are comparable to (and sometimes even cheaper than) other greenhouses/nurseries within the city. Great selection of indoor plants (both large and small) and the staff working the greenhouse portion are excellent. On a few occasions, we were helped by the same staff member and she was nothing but kind. She was also truly interested in ensuring we left feeling confident with how to care for our new houseplants. Customer service via social platforms (in my case Facebook) was also a very pleasant experience. A staff member was quick to respond to my concerns and it was all resolved in less than a day. All in all, you may save a few dollars going to a big chain store, but you’ll definitely be missing out on the excellent customer service provided by a local business like Greengate.

The greenhouse staff is super knowledge and know the place inside and out (super helpful when you're looking for something specific consideribg they likely have thousands of different plants during the spring and summer seasons) as well as have great plant knowledge.

mis labeled roses. Bought 2 what I thought were Henry Kelsey roses 10 days ago. I didn't keep the receipt because the plants were very healthy. The roses have started to bloom and they are definitely not Henry Kelseys. They have very small pink blooms instead of the red I wanted. I called Greengate and was told to dig them up and bring them back. They would give me 50% of the original cost back. I wouldn't be quite so annoyed except last year I bought what I thought was another red rose and got one that looked like a fried egg. Uuuggg. When I called about that one Greengate admitted there was a problem with roses being mislabeled and offered to replace it. The quality control as far as labeling is concerned isn't there. Once I can understand but twice....!!!! Guess won't be buying anymore roses at Greegate.

Beware that this garden centre brings in large shipments each spring from California from huge nurseries like Monrovia. These plants can be infested with pests that will get to the other plants in your house. Even if they appear to be clear of bugs, they can appear months later when it is too late. I have personally bought six Sweet Bay trees over two years (hoping to find one or two clean plants), that have all been completely covered in SCALE within months of bringing them home. If any of you are familiar with this bug, you would know that the plants are doomed and should just be taken outside to freeze. This particular pest is nearly impossible to get rid of and squirts sticky fluid all over the area that the plant sits which permanently stains anything absorbent. What a waste of money and time.

Always a great place for information and good tips. They also have a good selection of plants when the season starts up and you can get items to start your seedlings or start your purchased plants inside. While they doesn't have the lowest prices in town, I have more lckl when these plants as the staff water and keep them maintained more than say, a Wal-Mart or Home Depot or Lowe's... So honestly I feel this is a place where you kinda get what you pay for... If you've got a spot where you need help, they also offer planning and help and you can work with someone to plan things out.

We went to Greengate today and had a really good experience. At least half of the customers were wearing masks! We had to queue for around 5 minutes and they were sanitizing your hands and carts before you went into the store and also allowing a limited number of people in at once. Clear signage on the floors with which direction to go in which most people followed. People were being very respectful of maintaining distance while browsing and paying. They also had plexiglass up while paying and would call you forward when they were ready for you to pay. Delighted with the experience. I was quite nervous as haven't really been going to stores.

Greengate was FABULOUS!!! After checking the co-op and then Lowe's garden center, I phoned Greengate. I was looking for something specific and then I told him what I wanted they put me on hold while they looked and then they came back and told me what they had available and I said I was on my way. When I got there I found what I was looking for, and they helped me find an appropriately sized pot, repotted the plant (a FREE service) and at the checkout they nicely wrapped for me because I was immediately delivering it to the recipient. I wandered around while they were doing the repotting and I can't really wait to go back and shop for myself. The selection is great the service is great and I would highly recommend them ????

Very disappointed. We drove here specifically because they are a specialty store. , They were of not much help and had very little left, less than the general home and garden stores. They did not have some basic fall items but did have Christmas merchandise already. The sun is shining and it is 23 degrees. I felt I was annoying the staff members with my questions. I’ve been coming to this store since I was a child, but today I had a very negative experience that put me off. We had brought in plant pots of our own and were looking to purchase new plants to place in them. At check out, we asked if we would be able to purchase the plants and have them potted for us as we had someone do this for us previously. We were told the store does not pot plants unless the pots are purchased there. That was understandable and no problem at all. We enquired if we could pay to have them potted by an expert as we didn’t want to ruin the plants. The cashier called for another staff member which lead to an extremely condescending conversation about how we couldn’t place the plants in those particular pots. Although we were seeking expert advice about our plants, the way it was delivered was unprofessional and unacceptable. As someone who has worked in retail management I would like to offer a more positive scenario: The staff member could have shown me an alternative pot that would have worked for my succulents followed by a kind explanation as to why the pot I had was too deep. In that customer service oriented scenario I would have purchased the plants in addition to a new pot, but instead I left without purchasing anything because I felt I was being spoken down to, and that the staff simply wanted to leave for the evening. I’m very disappointed and I hope that if I return to Green Gate the customer service will be improved.

Unbelievable! Cone from Out of town just to shop at Greengate and they won’t even let a desperate person use the public washroom! Coffee shops, grocery and hardware store all have washrooms open. Heck, even the hospital has the washrooms open! Thank you at least replying but I call your response BS! If you want to be zero-risk you keep your store closed! Providing a washroom for your customer needs is simply good Customer Service. If all other stores, restaurants, hospitals, etc can figure out how to clean the bathroom in accordance to AHS guidelines, so can you!!! Call it what it is! Very overpriced place to buy plants and seeds. I purchased here because I thought the quality would be top notch however 4/5 herbs that I purchased there have died already (I’m trying to propagate clippings to salvage what I can). I also purchased a palm and there are are tiny flies that are now roaming free from it in our condo. Save your money and shop at Plant instead. All my plants from there are still alive and well (plus no bugs).

Lots of product. But you have to be willing to spend more than what the plants are worth. You're better off going to Costco or The Real Canadian Superstore garden centers. Pretty much the same plants but way cheaper. I can personally say that you can save up to 60percent off by shopping elsewhere. I bought two tower poplars for sixty dollars a huge basil basket for 9.99, two hanging baskets for 12.99 each. I also bought a tomato plant and a jalapeno pepper plant for 12.99 each. All bought at the competition. Just saying look around and you can get awesome plants other than at Greengate.

I always get my plants from here. The staff are super friendly and the plants are almost always in perfect condition. I would recommend isolating any new plants for a few weeks due to fungus gnats, but I'm yet to find a greenhouse that doesn't have this problem. Plants are affordable and they carry many varieties here.

Unfortunately most of the plants I purchased here were overpriced and had bugs or disease. I was not even able to receive a full refund. They only offer store credit if you are unsatisfied with your purchase. Also the customer service is not very good. They lack friendliness and helpfulness. Once my store credit is used up I will avoid shopping here.

What do I think when it comes to Green Gate Garden Centre...Ummm ???????????? Probably the best place in town for quality plant material and products. As a well schooled an experienced landscape business owner. I learn more and more, every time I walk through there door. From top quality annuals, perennials, trees and shrubs. Right on through to a huge selection of seeds from Canadian based suppliers. Awesome soil conditioner products...(That you can't find at your box stores) There authorized dealers for top names like Stihl, Corona pruning apparel and Gardena tools. Green Gate strives for nothing but the best in your home and gardening needs. If your into outdoor cooking. Then this is another great place to shop. As an authorized Traeger Wood Fired BBQ Dealer. There the only place in town to get your grilling needs in pellets...Sorry not even BBQ Galore carries Traeger Pellets. Bottom line are you going to pay a tiny bit less shopping somewhere else...Sure! Are you going to get sweet service, ultra quality products and the best of what your needs are?!?! Greengate is so beautiful might be my new favourite garden centre in Calgary so far (haven't been to all of them yet). I could spend the entire day here. Everything is laid out well making it easy to navigate. If you love succulents, this is the place to be! Succulents are all the rage right now and they have a huge assortment. I wanted to buy them all but had to resist as the prices were higher than most places I shop and note I don't buy from big box stores. They were all very healthy and I can't wait to go back...but please lower your price just a wee bit ???? thank you for bringing in all the varieties.

This garden center is definitely on the pricier side, but has the most amazing succulent selection--like two full rows and I could spent a half hour just going through their stock. I've picked up some "rare" succulents that online places would want to charge 2-3x the standard price of a 2"/3" succulent that greengate charges, though I found other plants like herbs, tomatoes and flowers a bit pricier than other places. The greenhouse is beautiful, bright and warm - with sounds of birds chirping coming through their speakers, a lovely environment to shop in.

I didn't find the staff is very courteous or helpful. I also found the prices to be way higher than my regular store I purchase my gardening supplies from. It is still a very nice large gardening centre. Whatever you may need they will have it.

This time of year Greengate is decked out for the holiday season. They have Christmas trees, they have lights indoor and outdoor they have all kinds of poinsettias and they have the Christmas villages that are absolutely incredible to look at. I recommend you stop by.

I had hundreds of dollars worth of product on my cart. I was standing in line to pay and asked a staff member where the bathroom was located so I could change my child. I was told that there were no bathrooms available for public use. I've been to multiple different garden centers in the last few weeks and all have had public bathrooms available. The staff were rude and the customers in line behind me had to defend me when the staff started to get snarky about the topic.
