Great selection, good price. They tend to carry some things (herb varietals for example) that are harder to find at some other garden centres in Calgary. Their prices are also very competitive, and probably the best on average since Sunnyside Greenhouses closed down.

Every plant I checked was invested with different bugs and pests. The plants were all fried from the sun and under watered. So sad how neglected this place is. The clerk also crushed my plant while bagging it after I asked her NOT to bag it. Disappointing

Staff are so incredibly helpful - I spoke to a lady in the tropicals section on the phone today as my Monstera was displaying some sad signs and she was so lovely and helpful. What's up with all the "shoplift and we'll get you" signs? There's at least 3 HUGE signs threatening shoppers as they walk in...threatening rides in police cars and criminal charges.This doesn't make for a comfortable shopping experience to be threatened so loudly as one enters your business. Just a few small signs in the high-theft areas, saying "Smile, you're on camera" will get your message across without the threats.

I find this nursery EXPENSIVE! and the selection ho-hum considering the size of the place. I've been there a couple of times looking for something to wow me and did not find it, or if I did it was way overpriced. The service is hit and miss and as an experienced gardener I don't think they are giving very good advice for the average Calgarian. Now that I've read the comment on how they treat employees I guess it's no wonder half the place is staffed by latinos, I'm gonna guess foreign worker program!?!? I grew up in Calgary and I remember this nursery from the 70's and 80's, it is not the owner/operators from that time, I have heard many nefarious things about the current owner from being around in this business for several years. I would suggest shopping at a big box store instead, yeah they have their issues too, but the product is so much more affordable and often they are staffed with knowledgeable staff, it's better than supporting Golden Acres who appear to be making hand over fist $$$$ and staffing the whole place with underpaid staff.

Love the product and variety here but the staff regularly make me uncomfortable. This last trip to the store, I wanted to ask a quick question about a few firetables. One bit of information (Firepit BTUs) should have been posted on the sign in my opinion but it wasn't and the other 2 staff I talked to didn't know and couldn't find out. They both referred me to the same lady that was sitting with another customer finalizing an order. She'd already been with that customer since I walked in the store. I had also already tried to make eye contact to ask my quick question but I was ignored, like I was invisible, I wasn't going to stand and hover awkwardly for who knows how long until she was ready to acknowledge me.

BUYER BEWARE - I bought a plant back in April without realizing it had mealy bugs. I returned it the next day but here I am still battling the pests on my other plants that were in the same room overnight. I reluctantly went back yesterday to try to find some insecticides and they had no selection. Not impressed at all. My advice: if you're going to go here - check your plants before you buy them and do some research first because their prices here are higher than a lot of places.

Really good selection and great vibes! But they really need to take better care of their plants! Especially for their prices... I saw they had string of pearls (which I was struggling to find elsewhere) but it was so sad, sparce and dry that I didn't end up getting it. and I know succulents need very little water but these little cacti pots were BONE dry with inadequate soil. Lastly, I bought a Chinese money plant from here and got an extra surprise...the aphids have taken over :(

I bought from a different nursery last year, got very little help in regards to how to plant my trees and 4 out of 9 of them are dying. if I could give no stars, I would. today my friends and I were shopping here and were walking around as only one of us has ever been there before. I should mention we are three young guys who dont really look like they belong in a gardening store. after purchasing items and then about to leave three large intimidating men approached the car and said that were to never come to the store again. we asked why and he couldnt give a real reason. said his security was watching us and if we stole something, he would know. sending letter to head office because we feel discriminated against and without a real reason as to why we aren't allowed back. until resolved I'm telling people to stay clear. unless you look like a gardener???

Today I came to the store with my 2 roommates to show them all the awesome plants and everything that golden acres has and to get some ideas for our garden. So we wandered around checking out all the plants and looking at potential future candidates. I ended up just getting a strawberry and a couple pots, was probably gonna come back another time and get a “ketchup and fries” and some other plants. As we were getting in my car, about to leave, 3 guys who work for Golden Acres came walking towards my car. So I turned my car off and got out, the guys wearing a purple shirt with black hair informed us that we were BANNED from Golden Acres. So I asked “why?” (because neither me or my roommates did anything wrong). He said that it’s because he did an analysis of us when we came into the store. And that was the reason. So I asked “why?” again because we didn’t steal or do anything wrong. And he said that he already knew that because he had people following us. My roommates and I were completely discriminated against and BANNED because of what we look like! Possibly because we’re young guys who don’t look like typical gardeners!! I will never be coming back to Golden Acres and will be telling every person I know about my experience and to never shop there!!!

The selection for indoor hanging tropicals was ok, they were out of hanging jug varieties of nepenthes but they had a small ground type. The prices were an issue for basket stuffers and common annuals. A go to for centre pieces and stand out items. Staff is great and were helpful in recommending how to find either a stand in similar to what was wanted or trying the wish list. Will be back.

Service here is amazing! I had to ask for help 3 times and each time received better than best! And great plants, indoor, outdoor, annuals, perennials. Plus all the fertilizer, compost, soil, pots, seeds, bulbs, trellises, etc you could ask for. Even with long line ups at the registers, I was out the door within minutes. Parking is great... Even during planting season. And the indoor display is so pretty! Lovely displays of so many items to make your home and garden gorgeous!

I go mostly for the house plants, of which they have an amazing selection. My wife loves all the perennials in the spring and summer ( like a warehouse of perennials trees shrubs etc. ) Huge selection of liquid and dry ferts, tonnes of soil and soil substitutes, mulch, rocks, pots, trays, seeds, tools, lights, grow tents...you name it and they have it! 100% grade from this Happy Plant Person! I have shopped at this garden store a number of times. Front staff have always been awesome. Today I went in for tree advice and stood at the tree hut while 2 staff members were present. I made eye contact several times with an older lady while she was helping a customer. Another woman returned from somewhere and busied herself watering shrubs. Thinking I might be at the wrong hut I went beck inside back inside to confirm where I should be. I returned to the Hut while an overhead page for assistance at the Hut was announced. As I walked back I was 'greated' by the young woman watering the shrubs. As she/he watered I think she said something (I was ~20 feet away). She literally scowled at me from under her eyebrows and kept watering. The older lady again watched me walk in but gave no indication of acknowledgment otherwise (again, she was with a customer). I get that it's first come first serve. I don't expect a conversation. A simple wave of acknowledgment would have been appreciated. Glowering at customers is no way to greet them. I've have spent a lot of money on my garden. I don't want to spend my money where I am not welcome. Again, GREAT front end staff. Don't go to Golden Acre to buy trees.

Do not like the lay out of this place, trying to find perennials is almost impossible They need more signage to explain where things are. When you can find a staff member they are helpful just not enough of them. La bels missing from a lot of plants so no idea of what was good for what I required. On the expensive side too for the size of the plants. Bring back Sunnyside Nurseries that was how a garden centre should be.

This is one of my favorite places to go when I need a Break from the insanity in my world . Beautiful , rare and healthy plants , trees and bushes . They have everything at this store from elegant patio furnishings to gardening gloves and root stimulator. Good selection of hydroponic supplies from lights to root gel . If its seeds and spring bulbs for flower beds or gardens , you have hit the JACKPOT HERE !!! I found even HORSERADISH !!! EVERY colour potato and so many others it was awesome ! I do agree somethings are pricy , but with the rare plants and items that can be hard to find , its worth the trip to me any day ( we come from Didsbury) I have only left here once without a new " treasure" I left my wallet at the previous store so I had to get them to hold a " pitcher plant "( so beautiful and rare they had only 2 left ) and some real moss for my staghorn fern , until the next day for me .They very happily did . Sadly my Father-in-law whom we live with on our families acreage has developed dementia and Alzheimer's and took a bad turn that evening .We had to take him to emergency through the night and much of the next day to diagnose and stabilize an underlying condition , so I was unable to get in to get my new " treasure" .But "Popeye " as my kids call him is doing better now :-) Ill have to try again soon IF THIS SNOW EVER STOPS !!!!

We were in to inquire about brown needles on spruce trees. It appeared that staff did not know much about these questions even though we showed pictures. We were told to get an arborist in to have a look but it was a lot cheaper to buy this fungicide than get the arborist. The answer we got was that it was caused by the harsh winter. In the end we left more disillusioned than when we first came to the "Golden Acres". For a huge store like this one would expect that someone on staff would have the expertise to help in these very important matters. As the Sunnyside garden center in Bowness shut their doors we feel that we are left in the dark.

I absolutely love this place! My aunt brought me here last year and highly recommended it. Since then, I have gone back a number of times on my own and always have a great experience. They have a wide assortment, very knowledgeable and pleasant staff, and a generally wonderful atmosphere. My latest experience is what pushed me to actually write a review, though. A few days ago, my fiancé and I stopped by to pick up a plant, pot, and gloves for part of our wedding ceremony. Unfortunately, in all of the chaos I somehow lost one pair of gloves. We returned yesterday to find that there were no more gloves in the size and colour that I needed. We asked customer service if they would mind checking their stock, and when they found out that it was for our wedding, they went above and beyond! Not only did they find the exact right colour and size, they also gave them to us for free. It may have only been $5 to the company but it means so much more to us. They really know how to care for people. We will definitely be coming back for all of our gardening needs, like some beautiful maples!

I'm always disappointed whenever I come here. The staff are very cold and seem miserable with their lives. Everything is extremely overpriced. And the plants almost always have bugs inside them. After buying a plant from them yesterday, I came home and realized there were two different price stickers on the plant. The one on the bottom was for $9.97 and their price sticker was $19.99. They markup their prices way too much which makes all of their products super over priced. If you buy plants here, inspect them very good to avoid bringing bugs into your home. will never be coming here again and will be warning others.

Ended up asking some snotty older lady for assistance, and she clearly did not like her job, or felt it was beneath her. Walked away shaking my head, and frankly lost interest in buying anything. GREAT SELECTION, MORE EXPENSIVE Worth the long drive south on MacLeod to check this place out. If you are looking for a specific plant you can call ahead to check if they have it. I have been there multiple times in the last year and they do have a good selection even in cooler months. Lots of outdoor and indoor plants, with a limited selection of planters and pots. Lots of succulents (even some very unique ones), cacti, wandering dude types, ficus types, bonsai, rubber trees, and fig trees. They do carry some pricey items like string of hearts and string of turtles. Prices are quite a bit more than other some big box stores but those are often sad looking and these have care instructions specific to the plant all printed on the nursery pot labels, something you won't find at your average home depot garden centre. Worth checking out ????

The staff are quite helpful but sometimes not easy to find them as it is such a big building and greenhouse. I purchased a succulent plant, aloevera plant and small ficus. Prices are reasonable. I had the ficus plant repotted as did not want to return to buy more soil and new pot down the road. I had to pay for the price of the pot but not the soil and the plant was repotted for no extra cost. If I had I bigger living room there would be no hesitation to purchase big plants.

I have visited Golden Acre on two separate occasions to purchase house plants and I left disappointed both times. The most recent occurrence took place the afternoon of January 9 – I went inside to buy two new house plants and pots. I picked the two plants and I went to the service counter where 3 ladies were standing. I asked if I purchased these plants and two pots, could someone show me the correct soil to purchase and how to repot them? All three ladies looked at me like a dear in head lights… silence... I said, OK, or could someone tell me how? (I am new to repotting/plants in general). One of the ladies said “Well, you better pick a pot that has drainage”… I said, “OK, so do I purchase a pot insert for that?”… Her response “No. the plant is already in a plastic insert that gets directly placed into the pot. Most of the pots over there are for decoration and are not good”. How helpful. Not only was her responses/tone of voice completely arrogant but 100% unhelpful. Based on the questions I’ve asked you can tell I am not a plant guru and I could use some assistance. They couldn’t walk over to the pots with me and explained which ones had appropriate drainage for the types of plants I was purchasing? Also, you just told me Golden Acre’s quality of pots are garbage, so why would I purchase them now? I walked over to the pot section with no assistance, feeling lost, confused and honestly very upset with the way I was spoken to. I ended up putting the plants back and walking out the door. I will not return to Golden Acre again. Any other plant store would be happy to help you pick out the appropriate pot/size and show you how to properly repot the plant – that’s what plant shops do! To the ladies at that service counter: perhaps you should consider a career change, customer service does not suit you well.

A few weeks ago I purchased a half cubic yard of loam from Sunnyside. I am from Bowness so I support the community whenever possible. However, last fall when I needed to fill a flower bed your seasonal department was closed so I went to Golden Acre to get the soil. I just found the receipt from Golden Acres and to say I am picking myself up off the floor in shock is an understatement. Here is how they compare. Sunnyside $55.00 for HALF cubic yard of Loam $55.00 for HALF cubic yard of Washed Rock (that would be $110 for a full cubic meter of each) Golden Acres $34.99 for a FULL cubic yard of Loam. $59.99 for a FULL cubic yard of Garden Mix, which is superior to loam. (I only paid $49.99 last fall) $59.99 for a FULL cubic yard of washed rock So in a nutshell, Sunnyside loam pricing is MORE than TRIPLE the price of Golden Acres. Even if you take into consideration that you have 20% compost in their loam and they do not you are still TWICE the price of their Garden Mix! And for the record, I checked pricing at Totem as well and they are more in line with Golden Acres. They might not be as conveniently located but I can buy A LOT of gas for that price difference!

Owner is condescending and treats his staff poorly. Their plants are not of good quality.. over half this year are in the garbage… unless you like throwing your money and time away.

I asked the cashier if they were asked to wear a mask, he said it was their choice. I feel this shows a lack of regard for others. We are asked to wear a mask to protect one another. This store has been my go to for over 20 years (my guess since I started shopping here when I lived in the northeast). They have a fantastic selection of plants. The most recent big purchase was our patio umbrella (to replace one the wind destroyed). The quality has been exceptional, much better than the flimsy ones many big box stores sell, and the base we bought to go with it is sturdier than any others I have seen. It was on sale, so that was a plus, though it would have been worth full price since you really do get what you pay for. The woman working that section was so helpful and pleasant and you could tell she loved her job. Worth the drive.

Hands down my favourite garden centre in Calgary... Excellent selection for annuals, perennials, shrubs, trees, tropical indoor plants, seeds as well as the occasional rare varieties of plant materials that can be difficult if not nearly impossible to find. They sell bulk products, ornamental pots, small greenhouses, pond plants, liners and fountains as well as an extensive selection of high quality patio furniture. It is very rare for me to not find what i am looking for. Checkout lines are also much less busy and hectic than any other garden centre I have been to. I have been a customer for over 15 years and have never been disappointed with the product selection or service. Sometimes they will do special orders or call you when the desired product comes into the store. I only buy plants/trees from other places at the end of the season when cedars are around 5 bucks each at places like Wal-Mart.

Really neat store in calgary. I always like shopping here always find the things I need and great staffs. I also want to a question for the reviewer countless claws here about cutting plants in half/ shrinking. Golden acres do not carry full load of plants all year round. They usually have stuff start of the growing season in spring so april is when they have the most stuff onwards probably until July or August. That you would have to ask staff but I been shopping here in the winter months and usually then they sell the tropicals, seeds, some herbs like rosemarry, oregano, and such , cactuses, succulents, house plants.

Nice stuff but I can find most of elsewhere for reasonable prices. Most centres are close but these guys are WAAAAY off the pricing mark! Good selection for gardens. A lot sold out perennials at this time of year. I was able to get some cute ground cover perennials for a shady spot in my yard, some other perennials and some bushes. They still have a lot of annuals. You can get all kind of supplies for your garden, yard, and flower beds.

Ordered my $100 worth of plants and waited 2 weeks for a call regarding my order. Their delivery stated 3 to 8 days for delivery and you will receive a call when they are outside. So when they called they said none of the plants I ordered are in stock, so they proceeded to cancel the order. I check their store site after and see the plants I put my order in back in stock maybe just a computer error and they probably don't have the plants. Couple days later I see the plants are still in stock and the inventory number has changed (from 4 to 3). Looks like someone else ordered the plant. Guess they didn't want to ship my original order. I emailed to ask and no reply. If you want plants order them somewhere else.

Not bad but I personally find they have too many succulents and cactuses compared to other indoor plants. I also find that when I buy plants here if I need a pot for it I go elsewhere. Especially for larger sized pots they have really no selection of them. Still a good store & definitely good for those getting into gardening. I have been a customer of Golden Acre for probably over fifty years, as a new gardener with an empty lot. The first location was a seasonal, outdoor location and what was then deep south McLeod Trail. Although the current location is now a long drive for us, this garden centre cannot be beat. There's a huge collecton of healthy plants and all the supplies you could ever need. But whatever happened to Costumer Service? This Christmas I planned to send a Golden Acre Gift Card to my brother. After spending sometime searching to website for a link to order online, I finally wrote an email to info@goldenacre - two week later no one has got back to me. I've called called Customer Servicewhere where they know nothing but put me through to Online Sales. Nobody picked up so I left a message - no response. Called Customer Service again and a very helpfull woman asked multiple people around her but still no help. She put me through to Online sales again, where again no one picked, so I left another firmer message Marilyn Wood My problem was resolved. I am giving Golden Acre a Five Star Review!

Huge selection of very healthy plants. All sorts of plants, from seeds to shrubbery and trees. Every soil, soil amendment and chemical you're likely to need. Hydroponic and indoor gardening supplies in great variety. Landscaping supplies, tools and structures. Super-friendly staff with deep knowledge in a very clean greenhouse. It's dog-friendly, but there's lots of birds inside if that's a concern.

We went to Golden Acre, looking for potting soil without fertilizer. It was an odd request, but an awesome guy named Jeremy hooked us up with what we needed! The service here was efficient, and all of the staff who we encountered were all very kind!

My go-to since my beloved Sunnyside has gone away. Excellent selection and well-organized space. It gets really, really crazy busy here and I highly recommend coming on a weeknight if you can with the pandemic capacity restrictions and the smaller parking lot. I drive by here every Saturday morning, and on a nice weekend, the place is already getting packed by 9:00 and bursting at the seams by 11:00. When we came here the third? weekend of May 2021, a lot of stock was obviously picked through since it was beautiful outside the weekend before. The key here is come early-ish in the year (not so early that they haven't gotten the stock in yet) though they still keep a decent selection throughout the season. If you want the good stuff though, you'll have to come before May long weekend, I think. All of our plants from Golden Acre have done great, with the exception of one plant that I'm a bit peeved about - I purchased a succulent, only to find that from some online ID help that I was sold the terminal blooms of the graptopetalum succulent I thought I was buying, and not the actual rosette itself. Now who would do that?! This means that once the blooms die, that's it for my plant. It won't keep growing like a typical succulent. I was thrilled to find some beautiful types of peony most recently - stuff you don't typically find at garden centers in Canadian Tire, for example.

The store itself is a dream and for the most part the staff is helpful and friendly. Yesterday though when I asked if they had something a staff member point blank said no and walked away, didnt try and help me find an alternative or have any suggestions. However a staff earlier went out of her way to help us find things, so its hit or miss. Currently as well their stock is quite low, no herbs to be found, annual flowers almost non existent. The perennial section is still pretty well stocked tho!
