I bought a Venus fly trap on Tuesday brought it home and it's dead already. The manager didn't answer the phone in a professional way and blamed me for not asking for a care map. She said "there's nothing they can do and its my fault I didn't read the instructions" there was no instructions and it died in one day. Also the cost of the dead fly trap was 17.00. Way to much to buy a dead plant if you ask me. When I told her she had a bad attitude she hung up the phone on me. This is overpriced and horrible customer service.

As an indoor plant enthusiast, I used too frequent this nursery often. However, I'm sad to sad recently I have had poor experiences and will not be back. Two tropical houseplants I have purchased from this nursery have had mealybug infestations now. The first was so infested I have to dump the plant, and I could only tell because I re-potted it and cleared it of all soil. Thinking this was an anomaly, I did purchase some more plants from this greenhouse but after my most recent acquisition also was in poor shape (mealybugs again) I will not buy from here. I also have had one or two incidences with staff members being a bit snippy about me looking at flowers under the benches and plants being damaged due to carelessness during wrapping at cash.

I always adore coming here. I first started coming here quite a few years ago with my mother just around Christmas time, because the displays are brilliant and magical, but recently I have also gotten into plants. Every single time I've gone into the tropicals section I've had such wonderful help from the staff there, who have listened to my myriad of questions and make sure I have all the knowledge required to take the best care of my plants. Plus, every single plant I've bought from here has thrived at home. Never any issue with pests or otherwise sad plant babies. I also love how they'll print you off a little care sheet to take home! I have a collection of them now!

Very nice place to purchase garden items including floral plants, fruit tree, seeds and decors. Their products are high in quality and they do come with a higher price (worth the momey). The plants do look healthy and are taken cares by professional staff. I bought my cactus and Ming Aralia here for 2 years now and they are amazing. Also, the parking is very spacious. Recommmend this shop! <3

Almost perfect. Beautiful plants, friendly staff... the only down side is their price... I can easliy find the same size plant in HomeDepot or RONA for 50% less... maybe not as good as their's but you get the point.

I love Ellerslie gift and garden. It feels like a home to me. I worked there like 6 years ago, and people there still recognize me. This nursery introduced me to my love of gardening. The staff is always friendly, knowledgeable and ready to help out. Jory is the nicest yard worker and I want to give him a shout out. I miss working there, every day. Update: I miss the old yellow house. I visited the new location a few weekends ago. I know they are still in the move, but the new location felt disorganized and hectic. There was no charm or quirk to this new building. The greenhouse feels sterile and industrial. Setting has a lot to do with how enjoyable a shopping experience is, and this new building is not very welcoming. The plants spill into the parking lot, held back by a temporary fence. I had a hard time finding items, and was even confused with where to pay. I feel like the really charm of Ellerslie is gone. Best of luck to their new location, but it's not for me.

I love this place. Their succulent selection can be a little boring sometimes, it's only about 2 weeks of the summer so far that they've had some of the more interesting succulents (lithops, Pleiospilos, etc), which was back in March. I've also had a few succulent purchases that were (later discovered) to be infested with spider mites. This is pretty common though. Wish they had a bit more zone 3 rose selections. I think their prices are extremely fair. I've seen their succulent trays and reefs go for around $25 - when individually all the succulents in there are probably over $100. The staff here are also very nice and chatty!

This little shop was a plesant experience. Staff was helpfull but not very quick to find the items we were looking for. We did leave exactly what we were looking for and some extras we were pleased to find. The displays are very put together but u have to ask a staff member, once you find one, for each item then wait while they get them from the back. Great store but it's not a quick in and out place.

The staff was helpful and friendly. I was looking for a moss pole(Stick) for my pothos yesterday and I asked the associate for it and she referred me to an experienced lady. That lady was so helpful and friendly. She gave her 100% effort to find out any substitute item as they did not have moss pole. I ended up buying a bamboo trellis for my plant. But as you saunter deep, you will find yourself really in the midst of awesome collection of annual, perennials, ornamental, veggie, herbal plants. Water plants, tropicals, Ferns, and what and what not. You name any paraphernalia, related to gardening, professional or amateur, you will find it here. Every item is a bit pricy, but TOP QUALITY always commands some PREMIUM, and you won’t complaint, if you are a gardening/ green connoisseur.

When I came in to pick up the plants, the kind lady, wanted to protect my plant from the cold and so she wrapped them perfectly. To make things simple, home depot's vegetable plants are about 1/4 the price for the same thing. And when I had 5 of 6 plants die 2 days after purchase, ellerslie would not return them, give store credit, or even just giving away a plant that costed a few dollars or a few seed packs to show they care about their customers would of make the whole difference. Sad because my parents used to spend a lot of money on trees and shrubs and other plants way back in the day and they returned trees and plants back then. It's unfortunate that your return policy is the way it is, as home depot returned plants without hesitation.

I can't believe I just found this place now! Even in mid-July they have so much selection and bees are happily buzzing around and visiting the flowering plants for sale. The employees are so friendly, helpful and knowledgeable, and the plants are lush and healthy. Definitely my new go-to place for plants.

DONIA'S DONAIR, situated in this location has the best Shwarma in town. It is family owned business and you not only get the best food but also an ample portion for your price. It comes with a beautiful smile, friendly service and homely feeling. Shwarma dish, Wraps, Jalapeno poppers, Falafel, Salads, French Fries are super amazing. Their special garlic sauce which comes with most of their dishes could not be bought anywhere else. It is family friendly and has a huge inviting garden where a whole family can sit and enjoy their meals out in the open, overlooking greens and flowers in the midst of this busy city. UNFORTUNATELY, DONIA'S DONAIR HAS NOW MOVED TO TORONTO AND CURRENTLY IS NOT OPRATING IN EDMONTON ANYMORE :(

I had 5 stars for this place before, altho expansive, but the staffs are friendly, great selection. I have no issues with their outdoor plants. BUT, in the past two year, the plants I have brought from the tropical section have spider mite problems. Specifically the Lemon tree and snake plant I brought was visible of mites on leafs, I can't believe I didn't take a closer look at it in store. The hundred-dollar dracena mass brought from this store also started to rot from the inside, and I found psocoptera infestation.... I never had mites issues in my house before!! Shame the store to charge a premium price. And even when I later visited the store, they just told me there's nothing their can do, and I should just spray it down with soup water. While, it doesn't work, unfortunately, the plants had to be thrown away.

Service was great there when I purchased over 20 tropical plants. All which have mealybugs, aphids and spider mite problems. I know how to care for tropical plants and I've done every thing right but these infestations are bad. I've called numerous times was put on hold for 19 mins then was hung up on. I called later that week and a gentleman told me to wash them down. All the plants I got was from there so there's no way they jumped from other plants. I spent over $400 on my plants and alot of them are in poor condition due to infestation. Probably won't purchase there again. And I understand plants get bugs but all of them?

Visited for the first time the other day. Very impressed! Large selection of interesting tropicals, succulents, trees, and flowers. Everything was very healthy and well cared for. A good selection of Bonsai supplies as well as some pre-made commercial bonsai. The prices are slightly higher than some other places but I'd personally rather pay a little more for something that was cared for than the usual drowned, sick plants you find at a lot of nurseries. Staff are excellent! Very helpful and knowledgeable. I almost got the feeling the lady helping me was going to run me off until she was sure I had every intention of properly caring for the plants I was buying. I appreciated the concern. :) Would give more stars if I could. Go check them out!

Comparable pricing to most specialty gardening places. I love Ellerslie and the staff. I find everyone can generally help with all my plant questions (I'm a green thumbs too so my questions are usually not typical Google searchable stuff). I love their wish list too. Have been on it several times and just picked up one of my long awaited (asked in Fall) olive tree plants that is between 8 to 10 inches. I find their selection overall is a good variety. They have the best fairy or mini ornament selection I have seen in the city and area. Highly recommended checking this place out if you love places like Salisbury or Greenland.

A great example of bigger isn't always better. The old location with the yellow house across the way was charming with unique gifts and garden decor that you couldn't get anywhere elae. I looked forward every summer to going. The new location was a huge let down. Prices up, selection down, and no "gift"section to speak of. The staff earn an extra star however as they are always knowledgeable and welcoming. Will not be returning, can go elsewhere for my gardening needs, but it is sad to see that little yellow house empty across the road.

Fantastic selection, saw some rarer tropicals that I've never seen at other greenhouses around Edmonton. They have huuge, full-grown tropicals too, but this place is definitely more expensive in comparison. That being said they have the most unique pots of anywhere I've looked!

You'll notice while shopping there that products carry no information pertaining to country of origin. Customers who make decisions based on such factors (i.e. cheaply made abroad vs locally made) are left blinded. Not only is this suspicious (should I assume everything's imported from China??) but I also wonder if this is legal. I vote with my dollars so in the future I'll just buy elsewhere.... don't like being taken for some village idiot.

Would give zero stars if I could... extremely rude service and the staff have little to no knowledge about the plants. 4 different staff members couldn’t direct me to the lavender plants and I was misinformed by 2 different staff how to care for my bonsai. The care sheet they send home with you is generic and not specific to the plant you buy, much of the info is useless. Spent $130 on this bonsai which is now dying thanks to the info I was given. DO NOT GO HERE.....

This is the second time we have visited Ellerslie Gift & Garden, and the second time my husband and I have left empty-handed. Just like when we were looking for shrubs and perennials for our new home 12 years ago, we are doing the same now, in our third home. Both times we have visited, we were ignored by staff who walked by us (one was flipping scissors around her finger today), and never asked us if we needed help. Today, in fact, one associate helped an older couple, then walked by us to offer help to a lady who had just arrived. It’s been a while since we have felt so snubbed; thank you for reminding us why we didn’t buy from you all those years ago. Oh, by the way, we were there at 2:30pm on a Tuesday afternoon in late June - hardly peak hours. We will be purchasing all of our trees, shrubs, perennials and annuals from a competitor just outside the city limits. Though Ellerslie is much closer to our home, we don’t mind driving the extra few minutes elsewhere for quality service.

The original location was amazing and quirky, the place to go to find something unusual as a gift or for your garden, not the usual big box store plant selection for sure. The staff were friendly, knowledgeable, easy to find and above all helpful. The new location however... Where do I start? How about the parking lot that was in a terrible state of disrepair in serious need of resurfacing or the lack of signage to drive through the landscaping truck entrance to another parking lot for what I think was supposed to be the front entrance to the new garden center. Then there was the completely sterile industrial exterior and interior! There was nothing significant, eye catching or unusual. Everything was drab, metallic and grey. The annuals were both inside and outside and I was seriously confused where to find anything in the owners attempt to merchandise the plants as you might plant in a pot together as opposed to all the trailers in one spot vs the grasses for example which made it far easier to choose your favorite from amongst similar items. I never actually found out where the perennials were located or their unusual specimen plants (and I am not referring to the tropical house). I never minded the slightly higher prices at Ellerslie but this year the pricing here was out of this world, way over and above similar garden centers I have already been to this year. Given my level of disappointment and frustration I was not willing to shell out that much extra cash this year for their offering of plant "basics". I have always supported local greenhouses in and around Edmonton and am increasingly disappointed to see them sell out to commercialism. Holes move to the Enjoy Center was an epic disaster and I feel this move also has taken away the heart and soul of a business that was so vibrant and unique. Time will tell if the gardening community that used to love shopping at the original location will continue to shop here or abandon this "new and improved" location to those who do not realize the difference.

I purchased a tree from here and shortly after I brought it home I noticed that it was infested with centipedes. I contacted them regarding the bugs and they suggested to leach the plant with water. This suggestion didn't work as after another month or so I was greeted with centipede hatchlings in the soil. I again contacted them for support. I was told by management that, since they do not grow the plants in house, there is nothing that they were willing to do. Other than sell me a product to get rid of the bugs in the plant that they sold to me. Makes a lot of sense. I definitely will not be giving them my business in the future, and unless you enjoy centipedes crawling around your house, you shouldn't either.

Distancing and the amount of customers allowed to enter is perfect. Alot of sales on decorative pots. Anyone ready to start their plants indoors there are a ton of seeds to choose from. Staff is great as usual., except for the female staff member in the tropical plant room, dosent need to be so unfriendly and bossy. I was trying to count how many people were in the room , I just counted 4, the limit, she came at me ,practically threw me out. I almost left the store. She could use a different approach.

About a year ago I bought a beautiful variegated pathos at Ellerslie. I have about 6 or 7 pothos plants in my house but this one for some reason kept wilting and wouldn’t look nice- always droopy even after a soak. It is generally a great and easy plant even for beginners so I decided to take a look at the roots. Unfortunately I realized that the plant is just two small cuttings from a larger plant with a few roots attached. I was definitely disappointed as none of my other greenhouse plants I have purchased seemed to be cuttings. If I am incorrect and some greenhouses do this, I apologize. But I found it a bit disheartening since Ellerslie’s prices are not the cheapest and I was trusting to get a healthy, beautiful, well established plant. I went through here the other day and you can tell they are putting lots of effort into the new location. However I was hoping the feeling inside the greenhouse would have changed. When I go to Salisbury, the workers chat with you and are always laughing, but when I go to Ellerslie I always feel uncomfortable and looked down upon. Of course I know all the workers there work hard and do a great job, however it would be great for them to have some vibrant, smiling faces in the greenhouse. I am giving three stars because I have bought other plants from this greenhouse and love them! Unfortunately just had this one weird experience. Update- Thank-you for reaching out. I definitely understand in moving there is a lot going on and things can be interpreted in a negative way. And thank-you for the info about the plants, I have decided to just keep my Pothos in a glass jar and it never wilts. ????

It was a nice green house but I bought 2 different packages if moss that only have a store made sticker. Neither say anything about preserved or dried*. I asked a cashier and she said it was just dried. When I went to put it in my terrarium and looked at it closer I suspect its preserved. I don't blame the cashier because either properly labeled packaging or staff education would easily have prevented the mistake. *Dried moss will start to grow again preserved cannot due to chemical process.

I am so sick of giving Ellerslie gift/ Classic a chance to be better every year. I’ve purchased bulk product only to find much much cheaper pricing later on, ie Burnco, even buying bags at Home Depot is cheaper. Each spring I go here first, it’s the closest landscape centre. I go seeking a local, knowledgeable business, with quality product. The reality is different. No one says hello, no one offers assistance or advice and this is a weekday morning. I normally leave empty handed reason being I never received the advice I went to this store for in the first place. Recommend to just go to Lowe’s, the plant selection does not require advice the bulk product is good price, hardscape product better price. Ellerslie gift and Garden, Classic landscapes, what makes your business better than others? I’ve been coming the spring for a few years each time disappointed.

The staff was helpful and friendly. I was looking for a moss pole(Stick) for my pothos yesterday and I asked the associate for it and she referred me to an experienced lady. That lady was so helpful and friendly. She gave her 100% effort to find out any substitute item as they did not have moss pole. I ended up buying a bamboo trellis for my plant. But I would like to appreciate her help. I only have one regret that I forgot to ask her name so I could write here for her appreciation.

Before you purchase any indoor plants, make sure they are not sick. Because they cannot be returned even they were sick when you bought it. The plant I bought has so many little tiny spiders and went back checked all this plant they have in store have this issue. What they recommend is that you purchase a $20 spray they have and try to save the plant yourself. Wow. Lol. The experience at old location was good. Not sure what happened after they moved.

Went to Ellerslie to get fish soil..The bags were 50 liters my partner when in by herself and purchased 6 bags.They were too heavy for her.Jory a great guy came and loaded them up for her.I was in parking lot because of virus ..he pushed out the cart to truck .Offered him a tip and he said wasnt allowed to except it.Highly recommend the service that Jory provided.

I have a well established variety of house plants that I have collected over the years, and have never had an issues with bugs in my plants. For Mothers Day this year, my husband bought me several new house plants from Ellerslie Gift and Garden, and suddenly I wound up with a fungus gnat problem in my house plants. We have bought plants from here before with no issues, so this has been super disappointing for us. I talked to the staff who said mosquito dunks would fix the issue, and despite re-potting all my plants, allowing them to really dry out and using mosquito dunks for the next 3 waterings, I still have an issue. I'm really upset I have to essentially throw away hundreds of dollars in house plants because you sold plants with a fungus gnat infection. Lesson learned going forward to quarantine all new plants. ????

I had a warranty issue with a tree that died last year I received zero customer service from Classic landscaping when I was directed to talk to them. I again spoke to Ted at Ellerslie gift and garden who was very helpful the whole time and he made sure I was well taken care of and happy when I left along with Carolyn and Patty. Hats off to all three of these wonderful people and their customer service! I will continue to support this business only because of these three people going above and beyond!

My experience was just as Christianna described it two weeks ago. I spent 15 minutes hunting for the plants I wanted in the section of the new store that was identified as the 'annual' section. Finally I asked where to find herbs and was directed outdoors, where I also found most of the annuals I had been looking for, in a section that a large sign identified as the area for shrubs and perennials. Meanwhile, I was astounded when I reviewed my invoice and discovered that I had been charged $18 for six packs of fairly ordinary plants. Normally prices are posted clearly, but I don't recall seeing even one sign in the store. I know that retailers have had a hard time, and I was not going to write a negative review. But given that someone reported some of these issues two weeks ago, and no one bothered to address her concerns by putting up a sign saying "more annuals outside!" I will add my voice to hers. I am a long term customer of Ellerslie Gift and Garden but this year I found the experience of shopping there both frustrating and time-wasting. For this year I will be doing the rest of my garden shopping elsewhere. I will try again next year.

Im not sure if their rent is super high here, but the prices are out of control expensive. I purchased a fiddle leaf dog tree from Salisbury greenhouse a few weeks ago for 45$. A smaller, less healthy tree here cost over 120$! I noticed that there pricing on almost everything i looked at was similar. Its a pretty store, nicely laid out, but I will not be back.

Don't ask for them to bring in more of sold out plants as it takes forever to get the plants or at least get a call back. Recommended contractors are a complete waste of time. Thank God the staff is at least knowledgeable. That itself is about the only reason this is not a 1 star rating
