I love this stores layout. They sell beer & some coolers. The meat is cut well & butcher is knowledgable. The prices are much higher but I love there 50% off produce and day old products. The staff minus a few employees are rude and not helpful at all. I sometimes wonder if only snobby self entitled jerks work here? The owner wants accused me for stealing when I didn't purchase a bag for my items that I had gone through with a check out for he came and questioned my purchase ask for my receipt but the cashier had not given me one upon telling him that I just went through this cash and I didn't receive a receipt he basically called me a liar and once I directed him to his staff who confirmed that I had indeed purchased and paid for all of my items he did not apologize he merely said well how was I to know you didn't take those items you don't have a bag. The store charges for bags and I forgot to bring my own I had a baby stroller in which the items were placed in the basket below. I felt like I was accosted by the owner Steve room. I didn't and really try not to shop there because of this experience. I also know other people he has been extremely rude to regarding Saft. I feel that this aft is a big problem today but to Q's people without any proof is very wrong.

Great grocery store! Also has plants and flowers. Has some gluten free products and a pharmacy. Also has a good selection of hot and cold fast food for on the go. Hope this helps.

Awful experience with pc plus pickup. My order wasn't ready until the very last minute of the hour, they didn't bother with substituting products that weren't available, and didn't add everything we ordered that I was charged for. Ended up having to go into the store to fix the problem during a stay at home order.

Not one to review grocery stores but this independent was super clean, organized and our cashier Patricia had such great energy and positivity. I immediately commented to my partner how lovely she was to interact with, not common in stores nowadays.

Really friendly staff and this place had it under control. May be a line but the line moves fast. Great for the hand sanitizer and baby wipes. Lots of selection.

I enjoyed shopping there as they provide a scooter for disabled people in their store. I found that the prices were higher than the other grocery stores in town. There produce was top of the line, but expensive. The staff was very helpful and seemed very knowledgeable about the products in the store.

I recently made an online order through PC Express a week in advance and my order was cancelled 5 mins before the delivery time because there wasnt enough time to fill my order. I couldn't reschedule because there were no time slots available. A week of waiting just to have groceries cancelled. I went in the store the next day to grab groceries and had the worst experience with one of the cashiers there. Sorry Romes you were always my go to but I wont be back to your store. This isnt the first bad experience I've had there either. Aweful customer service!

Usually never have a bad experience here but don't think I'll ever buy any meat here again after they covered up the original sticker with a new one to hide the date. Was wondering what the smell was in my fridge and it'd be the rotten chicken that was relabeled.

I use Rome's a lot as it is on my way home from work and I commute by bicycle. I will continue to use Rome's and have no issue with the products they sell. During Covid they had the doors manned and the staff were always great and helpful. By rights I should have locked my bike outside, I know this and am extremely grateful to the staff for letting me put my bike inside instead, mostly worried about having it stolen from outside the store. Now they have dropped the manned doors and the staff are no longer there. I asked instead last night at the customer service are if she could watch my bike. Her attitude was a little off, had she given me a polite no sorry I would have been 100% happy, I know the other staff had been going above and beyond with watching my bike. She said no you have to have permission from the owner and repeated that line several times, when I asked how I could go about that she said you have to catch him during the day. I asked if I could leave my bike and have her keep an eye on it, she responded with an annoyed remark about only if she isn't busy. Now I understand 100% that watching someones bike inside is not a service that Rome's offers and I was being cheeky, I am very thankful for my experiences so far but a polite no sorry you have to put your bike outside would have been totally fair, not just a load of attitude!

good selection, just the back of the store smells stinky and the lines up after 4 pm are absolutely ridiculous! hire more people! wish that you carried more grass-fed meats as well.

LOVED the crispy chicken tenders and $5.00 for a meal is great, but for maybe the last month, they are always so overcooked and dry. and it seems every time we go (no matter when it is) we are always waiting for them or wedges, cuz never ready. We will not get them anymore, or at least until they stop overcooking them.

My father is a senior and cannot carry groceries to his car. He asked if the groceries could be delivered to his house and he was told no. They do not deliver groceries that are on sale! My dad has been a loyal customer since Rome’s opened. He also gets all of his medication and my mom’s medication from their pharmacy. I would estimate he spends over $3000 a month on prescriptions alone, if not more. They demanded $31.00 to have his groceries delivered. That was the difference he saved on groceries. My father is a senior and on a tight budget. This store should have considered the amount my father spends on both groceries and medication before they refused to deliver his groceries. Seniors have a very difficult time, especially someone like my dad, who on top of being a senior, has several health issues in regards to his mobility. Shame on them for this injustice! If I could’ve given your store a zero star rating, I would!

By far my favourite place to shop in the Soo. The Pharmacists are very knowledgeable, outgoing, and friendly. They show genuine care and concern. The store is clean, they sell a quality product in each department, and the staff are helpful and polite.

Rome’s has the best in grocery store bakery in the city always has great goodies ready for grabbing! And the flower section always smells divine not to mention the staff in the floral section are always super helpful and sweet!

Hit and miss most days. Has some unique products I can't find elsewhere, good seafood options, but expensive for many items. At 9pm, had only long 2 lines open, no express line open and all the self-checkouts closed. An hour to go and waiting for 15min in a line - ridiculous.

Customer Service is minimal. However I love the points and the groceries here. I go here 2 times a week. Wish young people recognized what great customer service is. Ordered something from the bakery I felt they didnt want my business. My colleague heard me on the phone and wondered why I didnt hang up and go to Pinos.

Always overpriced merchandise and some cashiers are moody and miserable, they will not match prices or give rain checks. One day I went in to buy strawberries and found several packages with mold in them, I asked to speak to the produce manager and waited at least 10 minutes for him and once there he refused to remove them from the shelf and walked away saying it wasn't a priority. In the mean time I watched an elderly lady take 2 packages and put them in her cart. Also, the stench of the seafood department is enough to make some run and vomit. I will only shop there for something that is on sale, and only if it isn't a better buy somewhere else. Again, their everyday prices are beyond ridiculous.

I like Rome's because they do such a good job of keeping the place clean and organized. Perception is huge when it comes to grocery and Rome's always seems to put their best appearance forward. Hot foods section is always a nice treat for when you don't feel like cooking.

Prices are a little higher here, but is worth the price is you want a nicer shopping experience. Store is very clean and does not get too busy. Lines at checkouts are ok and there is self-serve checkouts for use. They have the best selection of organic fruits and vegetables. The extra price isn’t worth it for me but for some it might be.

It was okay.. The chips we bought were on sale for 4 for $5 but when we seen the recite.. It wasn't what it was suppose to be. We paid 2 for $3 each. So romes made an extra $1 off us.. I seen with my own eyes on the shelf it was 4 for $5

A little expensive for some things but one of the best selections of craft beer in town outside of the liquor store. Staff is always friendly. Awesome bakery. During the Covid-19 very thorough, clean every cart as you bring it inside, have hand sanitizer at the entrance. Cashiers walled off with thick plexiglass to protect them and the customer. Just all in all always a good shopping experience.

This grocery store has so much to offer. There is a bakery, deli, hot food, sushi, fresh meat, produce and veggies. There is a Joe Fresh located inside the store and a section that carries home essentials. The staff is always friendly and they shelves/ isles are kept pretty clean.

Tried the PC Express for the first time today and it was amazing! I did my shopping online while I was making brunch so I was shopping for groceries in my kitchen. Then I picked a time slot that was convenient for my schedule. I went to pick up my order and the experience was easy and seriously enjoyable, the woman was a gem! She gave me reward items and was so pleasant! The best thing ever.

Traveling through town, this grocery store had a great selection of freshly prepared salads, fruit and veggie trays and ready to go meals. The store is clean and well laid out. Staff members are friendly. It also has a good selection of health food.

Huge selection of vegan/ vegetarian items, oddly the frozen veggie burgers had different brands in different sections of the store, I had to wander a bit. Regular normal foods seem to cost more, but the store is huge, and clean, and the cashier was super nice.I was going to bag my own stuff (I brought my own bags) but she insisted on doing it for me.

Meat did not look fresh at all... especially the beef... discolored. Cashiers did not crack a smile and left me to bag my own groceries since i had my own bags... she simply watched me place my things. Not a good experience at all... This lack of service convinced me to go to pino's a little further away.

I was at a baby shower Upstairs At Rome's. Very nice venue for small get together. Fridges, stoves, counter for laying out food, tables and chairs. Very bright with lots of windows.

Probably the largest grocery store in the Sault. Nice veggie and fruit selection, good meat department. Fresh baked breads daily. Not the cheapest prices, but some of the best selection. Presidents choice products available here.

A few weeks ago I order from the hot deli, a little mix up and the manager fixed it. I went again today, It took about 5 minutes for them to notice me standing there, ordered 2 paninis and a small potatoes, a small order, the dude asked a girl that was busy with something to help him, got my order, went to pay for it, NO bar code, had to go back to hot foods where again he was too busy chatting to notice me while there was a line up of about 3 customers. If he was any slower he’d be going backwards!!! Day shift is great during the week but evenings and weekends suck. Going downhill fast! I don’t mind paying high prices for quality food and customer service but I think Pino’s will be my new go to!!!!

9:30am Sep 20, 2018 Extremely Rude cashiers..I have never been treated so ignorantly I have severe life threatening allergies so I wear a mask in public to protect myself...these 2 cashiers ignored more, talked to each other, did not help put the bags in my cart...did not hand me back my card tossed it on the counter for me to pick up...did not tell me the total just stood there...then proceeded to ring in the next customer putting their groceries on top of mine!!! If you are afraid do not guess what is wrong grow a pair and ask...I am not sick but I have to protect myself from you. Pretty sad though because they are going to loose out. I spend $300 a week on groceries. I will miss some of the deals but I would rather spend more where they will treat me with some respect

I paid cashier 120.00 owed 122.00 lcounted it twice she said l only gave her 100.00 she lied l only has brought 140.00 with me so she made me give her the other 20.00. I noticed that a package of pork chops and hamburger were also lovely rewrPped in plastic picked up both both leaked alot of blood all over my hand

The Independent flyer came out with a half page blurb for Grab & go platters $25 plus 5000 PC points. I just don't trust this location often times products are advertised but no products are available in the store and staff are not willing to say to say when they will be re stocked These are often products I purchase on a regular basis So thought to be on the safe side I would call and reserve the platter if my choice. At the store I adkefd the clerk for my platter. No $25 platter was brought out. A $10 container of one cold meat one cheese selection grapes which I wont have in the house because of dogs and olives which I dont eat..so I didn"t want. Staff shrugged their shoulders. Once I aasked to speak to a manager well we can make you one. No thanks I don't want to hang around in a store. Deli manager you had sufficient staff working to have one person making platters instead of an empty case. Very disappointing store manager stop putting advertising blurbs out when you don't have the products available. This was new year's eve at 2:40 the cooler should have been full not empty.

Great hot food and deli counter! The new pizza is amazing with great fresh toppings and thick crust! The Italian melt is a favorite of mine! The sushi is the best store bought sushi you can get in Sault ste Marie! Rome's also has a great beer selection for last minute beer needs. They usually have great deals on food that help cut down the cost of groceries!

An OK store, but not the store it used to be. Subtle changes over the years have now made shopping experiences less than satisfactory. Let's start with the parking lot. If you show up with a Ford F150 and a person beside you parks with an F150, one of the 2 of you is not getting in or out. The lines are painted to fit Honda Civics. Once inside the store, there's plenty of room for shoppers in the aisles and open areas. The products are good but the prices are typically higher than other stores. The checkout area needs an overhaul. The conveyer belt systems are way too short for both you the customer and the employees. Hopefully, you get a cashier who is not rude. I seldom visit this store as compared to previous years. If you want customers back, lower your prices, improve customer service at the cash and get longer conveyor systems.

Lunch counter gone in replacement of deli area. Way too much fried food. They can grill paninis. Need more staff at busy hours. Dont come last minute to shop. Specialty areas shut down sn hour prior snd staff busy cleaning.

I just witnessed a super disturbing incident at this store. I watched store security and store employees tackle and restrain a man who appeared to be homeless and possibly indigenous for shoplifting. They kneeled on his chest outside the store, he was screaming. At first I thought he was having a seizure, but it turns out they were just grabbing violently at him. It was an unbelievably excessive and violent restraint, for what turned out to be a very small bag of groceries. Private security companies are not allowed to use excessive force in this way, and yet there were 3-4 men tackling this small man while he screamed. When I confronted store employees about the incident and the excessive use of force, they were dismissive and a woman who appeared to be the manager told me their security company was allowed to do this. The person who seemed to be the manager manager, a blonde woman, laughed and stormed off when I told her that private security definitely were not allowed to assault someone in this manner. This was a deeply disgusting, potentially racist incident and speaks volumes to me about the culture of the store that its employees and security see this as acceptable response to something as minor as a small shoplifting incident. I will no longer be supporting Rome's Independent Grocer and I urge others not to support this business. I urge this business to reconsider their private security team and their frankly disgusting store attitude that condones this kind of assault.

Weirdest thing. They didn't activate a card at point of sale and when called advised to come into the store for a refund. So we did, one of us waited in line for quite some time and other in car (covid 19 so socially distancing). The gift card was for someone out of town so it was a difficult situation since we actually mailed it out of town as part of a mothers day gift. It was then mailed back and we keep our receipts so we had both the card and receipt handy. The manager refused saying to call the gift card company but the issue was that the card had never been activated so no help there. Likely the cashier rang in the purchase wrong. I used to be a cashier so it's a common mistake... I do get it and no big deal but they sent my partner on a bit of a goose chase. That's not acceptable, but because of covid 19 we just aren't returning to the store. We just ended up giving the gift recipient an equal amount in cash. Happy ending but we were out some money and it was a delayed gift because of all this. I don't often write reviews but I really like Rome's so it stands out to be as a bad experience.
