I just love having thisgrocery store , it's a mini version of Superstore they offers a good selection of some of the same products that the Real Canadian Superstore sells,. I was pleasantly surprised that they even have a cosmetics section and a clothing section for the whole family. Quite impressed that I don't have to travel to get all the things that I need in one store

Two words. Discount. Salads. Go there and look for the half off salads. Makes a great lunch and only costs like 3.50$. Even bigger salads go on sale for like 5 bucks and you could feed a curling team. Don't even get me started on how cheap their pizza is on discount. You'll never prepare your own food again.

Dennis's Independent replaced Walmart as the go-to grocery store for my partner and I when the pandemic started, and I have no plans to switch back any time. I've been consistently pleased with the produce quality and the selection/variety of products available at this location. The staff are friendly and helpful, and give the store that neighborhood grocery feeling. Their Covid-19 protocols have been mostly good and efficient.

Nice little grocery store, pretty solid selection of stuff and they seem to have a good amount of cashiers so it is usually pretty fast to checkout. There's now a liquor store attached to it, so that is super handy. Store has definitely improved over the last couple years, it was pretty dingy feeling inside a few years all. Although it still feels a little dreary to me every time I walk in. The deli/bakery/produce area is a little lackluster, but the store itself isn't huge, so they make do with what they have. It's a grocery store and they are definitely doing a good enough job at that.

I like this store. It has good bakery and mear departments. The staff are friendly and helpful. One of the major things I like about this store is its layout. The aisles are well marked and items are grouped logically. One can find what they want easily, unlike some of its competitors which may you wander around the store trying to get your groceries.

The online grocery ordering and pick up system via Independent is awesome. Super convenient. If something in your order isn't available, they call you to let you know and also suggest substitutes. The store is hardly ever crowded. When the lines get longer, they call in more staff to operate additional tills. The pharmacy and the staff there are also fantastic.

When I've come in in the morning, I've seen and heard some things from the meat cutter throwing tantrums that you wouldn't believe. He seems to create a hostile environment for passing by customers and I'm sure the workers too. I've been shopping here for a while and am not sure how he holds his position here still. If you talk to him when he's out on the floor, he makes snarky sarcastic comments and can be straight up rude. He seems to really hate his job. So why is he still here? Has nobody else spoken up? He needs to be more professional when he is at work and leave the immature attitude for when he's off the clock. I'm sure it's not your intention, but you're basically paying him to intimidate and make your customers feel unwelcome in your store.

Decent grocery store with a good selection of mid-range to premium types of foods. Independent is also one of the only places that offers Rock Paper Coffee, which is a local coffee roaster that I enjoy supporting. The prices are expensive for what the items are, however, and the expiry dates cut it way too close.

It's a really convenient place to shop since it's close to home however, the stocking really needs improvement i went there one week and the items that i was looking for were not there that day so i went back the following week and it still had not been stocked. Another thing is that one day there was a big line up at the till being that two employee's left the tills unoccupied to assist ONE customer with a couple grocery bags.

Go elsewhere! Produce shelves are empty more often than not, prices are high and there are never enough cashiers. So disappointing as its close to home, but most of the time when I would go in I would have to end up going to another store just to grab something simple like mushrooms that they would be out of. Lines are typically very long and cashiers are not friendly at all.

I asked an employee about pricing and her response to me was ‘well that’s how we do business, you don’t have to shop here’ ... a Well here is how it goes teach your staff customer service. I am not coming back to your store and I will make sure I let people know about my terrible experience. Also her reasoning for the same brand of product pricing being different - charging $2 more for muffins because you offer ‘a quiter environment to shop’ is a lame logic. 1- is environment and shopping experience is the reason you charge 2$ more then informs the customers 2- make that experience worth the money you at charging. The girl i dealt with was an untrained employee with poor communication and customer service skills. And her response that it is my opinion that this is not a very smart logic because she failed to convince me that the service was worth the extra charge. FYI I have no problem paying more in sobeys because their service is worth the extra money. So as a service professional and a trainer Dennis here is a suggestion please improve your customer service and focus on informed communication skills. Lastly you lost a customer.

If it weren't for Evan from the deli I wouldn't be giving Dennis's such a generous review. Evan was able to help me find everything I needed from all over the store even though most of it wasn't his department. Normally I wouldn't need the extra help but the store is very poorly laid out and most of the other staff seemed low energy and unwilling to help. The store has no self serve checkouts.

Enjoyed our shopping experience at Dennis's . The store is always clean and well presented. The only downside to our experience was at the till; our teller was friendly and courteous however there were two and a other till doing nothing. One had her head down on the checkout and the other was leaned right over and they were chatting. Just doesn't look good to the customers. Could they not do that on a break and look presentable while on the sales floor?

Nice produce, great deli, friendly & helpful staff. Love the 50% off (very/overly ripe) fruits & veg deals (as well as some other underselling items from every other section). Only negative is that some fresh fruits & vegetables (and occasional other items) are priced a touch higher than their TRCSuperstore counterparts; though only by about 20-90 cents per item/pound. Such is the price for convenience of location I guess.

Potentially the worst Pharmacy in the city, most of the staff are rude and short with customers. In specific the lead pharmacist is belittling and doesn’t seem to want to help patients/customers with anything that will slightly inconvenience her. As someone who recently moved to the area I highly regret moving pharmacy’s, and I will get prescriptions somewhere else before ever going back.

The meat sales were not marked on sale. Ta Ked to the meat clerk and he re-priced the item. Before leaving store went back to see if the other packages were changed. They were not. If you shop here you better check your sales receipts.

We usually shop here and I’m not really sure why. The prices are comparable to sobeys, superstore and coop, the cashiers are not friendly and god forbid you need any help finding something because you won’t be able to track anyone down and if you are lucky enough to get help they make you feel like you are asking them to move mountains. I also find the selection pretty sparse and missing pretty normal foods you would expect them to offer. We will continue to shop there for our basics, but I think some customer service training is in order.

Was unhappy with the selection as well as the layout. Clothes sandwiched between the food aisles...? The cheese cooler was a disaster. Also went to get basic cough and cold medicine (Tylenol cold and sinus) and it was locked up because the pharmacy was closed? Asked the staff member if it was unlockable and she told me she doesn't have keys. No where that ive ever been locks the cold and sinus with no access even through a staff member. This was enough to empty my cart and go to Walmart. Was much happier leaving Walmart than I was here.

I’m so upset I was racially profiled at Dennis' Your Independent Grocer in Lakewood!!!! I was in there a whole five minutes rushing around around getting 3 items for my catering order. The guy followed me out the store and said security cameras seen me put something in my purse. I was shocked I was being accused and told them I’m 8 months pregnant and you think I’m stealing ???? ??? I didn’t put anything in my purse! I asked what do you think I stole then ?? I went to get coffee cups, coffee and jam??! He responded by saying let me see what’s inside your purse!!! So I emptied my purse right there in front of everyone. He seemed annoyed I did this. And I said what did I steal then??? He grabbed my Bourjas makeup from my hand and said you took makeup. !?? But guess what ???? I WAS NOWHERE NEAR THE MAKEUP SECTION ‼️ I told him no I bought the make up from shoppers weeks ago!!! Finally realizing he was wrong and sounding annoyed he told me if I put a receipt in my pocket I should of told him. I packed up my purse and told him I won’t be returning!!!! I really like this new store. It's clean and smells great. A great change from the former Extra Foods it replaced. They carry all kinds of interesting groceries, including locally sourced products as well as all the President's Choice line. They even had fresh pickerel the other day! The meat department is excellent. While they do carry some No Name brand items, if that's what you're looking for stick to the crowded mess at Superstore. It is more expensive than the big Superstore, but for me it's worth going here instead. They have the best part of Superstore and none of the hassle.

I’ve wanted to like shopping here since I live in the area. However, 9/10 times my cashiers are unfriendly, bordering on rude before the interaction. Some haven’t even greeted me, or i have heard them say have a nice day to the customer after me. It’s been disappointing to go and feel like I’m inconveniencing them by spending my money here instead of somewhere with a self checkout.

Dennis Indepedent used to to have the best steaks in the city, but that has changed dramatically. Tenderloin was the best and best priced in the city. However, price of tenderloin has increased by 50% and quality of meat, especially the strip loin has decreased dramatically I can now shop elsewhere for less money and get substantially better steak elsewhere. IE: Bulk Cheese Warehouse, Costco, etc. prices are lower and product is sustainably better. This place has gone downhill terribly. I’m fussy and used to rate them the best in the city, no longer though. Shop elsewhere if you don’t want to be disappointed. Larry at the meat counter is great however and knows his stuff, but he can’t change the poor decisions made by management. So long Dennis.

Dixie is a racist customer service agent. I experienced it my self and watched her dealing with other east indisn customers. She would not do any greetings or even say hi, thanks, do u have PC card how many bags etc to East Indian customers yet right away very friendly to caucasian customers. Instead very rude attitude towards East Indians even told one customer to bag his own groceeries. . Will call the manager to discuss further and if not addressed properly will call media . She needs to be fired and the owner is to blame too.

I have been a customer of your store for many years, and I will never spend another dollar or step foot in your doors again! Dennis, it’s time you retire and sell, or take a class in running and managing a business. If you have, then I suggest retaking it. Kaitlin (upfront), you need to take a customer service course. What a bad example and you are in no way, shape or form, fit to be in management! You should be ashamed of the way you conduct yourself and should be FIRED! Kallie, who often times answers the phone in an extremely snotty tone and attitude, who does not relay messages, you also deserve to lose your job. (And Do not tell me to phone in with my concern, as apparently staff can’t perform basic duties and no one calls back). This entire store has gone downhill over the years. Maybe there’s a high staff turnover rate, due to BAD MANAGEMENT?!?!?! I’d give minus 10 stars if I could.

Check the expiry date on everything if you shop here!! A lot of their products are either expired or soon to be. Also, I have bought their own packaged veggies and dip a few times and twice I have found long hairs in them. Disgusting!!
