Very clean store! Upon entering we were asked if we had any symptoms and they disinfect the carts before we enter. The staff are very helpful. One male staff saw we were buying spaghetti sauce off the shelf in the aisle and he showed us there was a display sale on the end cap already stocked. All the products we were looking for were there except for field cucumbers which were not in season, so that was understandable! We also had trouble with the self checkout and the lady was so helpful. I will definitely use be coming back to this location of Metro again.

I have not shopped here for years, preferring Super Store or Zehrs. However having recently moved back to the north end Metro is close to me so I thought I would try it out again. I remember from the past that the cashiers were unfriendly and didn’t seem to enjoy their jobs or interacting with the customers. That has not changed for the most part. Tonight I purchased a package of cooked chicken breasts and a small container of “root vegetables” from the deli. The chicken was so hard and dry I had to toss it. The vegetables were half raw and tasteless. All together this cost $13 and was not edible. From now on I’ll go the extra distance to another store for decent food and smiling cashiers. ????????

The most ignorant staff i have seen. Never do reviews but decided this time its worth it. Managment needs to have better managment of staff instead of always outside smoking. Also be prepared to spend most of your evening in a linr up becUse they only ever have 1 cashier open because you will be asked to leave the express counter if you habe 5 items. Unbelievable. Do yourself a favor and spend your hard earned money else where!

Poor management at this location. Head office needs to school this management. 3 reasons (of a long list): The lineups are a mess, especially during this time people are crowding around the ends of the aisles budding each other and bumping into each other, confused as to where to go. It's as if the management has not looked at any of the other stores in southwestern Ontario and realized they need one dedicated line and a staff member to direct. Too cheap to pay for one employee to increase the efficiency and safety of the customers in this community. Management should also tell Laura the cashier to follow Metro store announcements that play frequently that the mask is supposed "cover the nose and face"... Management walked out of the office right in view of her and said/did nothing, if she has a nasal issue, management should be providing her a face shield. Visited a different Metro today in London and they have none of these issues. This location should be investigated by corporate. Do they not know how to label product pricing properly? They've been updating their store for a few months now, and it looks great. They have an open butcher section, a wider selection of baked goods, and a store made salad area. They're now competing with other boutique grocery stores which is a great thing. The prices are decent as well with lots of sales that compete with the ' basic' grocery stores.

Need to be a bit more mindful of stoping the conveyor belt at the cash. My groceries and the person's behind me were forced together for almost a minute because the cashier wouldn't stop the belt. Every time we tried to fix them, the belt would go again. Eventually, we just left our things in a heap.

Metro on great northern road is the only available grocery store to me and sometimes, I find great deals but mostly metro is super expensive compared to food basics and no frills. Also I find varied optionson sea food at food basics but the sister firm metro has limited seafood and it's hugely priced. The reduced at metro is awful. Most of which at the cash register will be marked at original price until we check the receipt and ask. Also, the reduced prod veggies and fruits are stale and not consumable and metro shamelessly puts it on reduced. People prefer reduced because it comes at a lesser cost, doesn't mean they have to consume stale products right? I prefer using metro only because it's closer to my house and I don't have a car to drive to food basics or no frills. Since there is no marked price on the products, metro conveniently increases the price on Friday evening and reduces it during weekdays. I go to metro atleast twice a week and this is my observation. Next time you buy groceries from metro, please check your receipt, cause if you don't check you might loose money even without you knowing.

Quick and convenient but a little pricey in comparison to other options in Sarnia but I must commend first class service that I received in connection with a previous issue that developed when a tray of eggs, on sale was sold out and replaced with smaller sized eggs - after a complaint from a Senior Citizen that I had picked up the eggs for, they happily replaced the tray of eggs (30 in all) with the proper size and at no cost - the customer that I was helping out was very pleased while I was pleased impressed with this level of service, happily and sincerely delivered

Disappointed! That is how I would describe my visit to Metro. Their shelf product placement is confusing. Such as tomato paste...kept with premade tomato sauce, nowhere near canned tomatoes. On top of that, the Teller was unpleasant. Everytime I said something, I got a weird look from her, but not a single word in response. It had nothing to do with the fact you could tell she was deaf, she was ignoring me on purpose.

The location is convenient to me otherwise I would probably do my groceries somewhere else . I find the staff particularly cashiers and deli (who are mostly boomers ) not very friendly and almost seem bothered. The younger staff are friendly though . The older staff are probably unionized or something and feel they are doing you a favor by checking you out.

Other than they seem stuck in the middle of renovations for the last few months its a well run and managed store. Looking forward to when things are finished and it feels more normal again. While I do find that doing all my grocery shopping here can get expensive, I must admit the quality of the fresh food and the customer service is second to none. They do have excellent deals on some items and I always go here when I'm looking for a particular fresh ingredient, or for something hard to find. Their produce, meat, and floral departments are by far my favorites. The staff are amazing and I never regret coming here, even if I may pay a little extra. They are wheelchair accessible and staff will help you if you need extra assistance.

So we ordered a bday cake and my father drove 30 minutes away to pick it up and was told no such order was made so he drove all the way home. My mom called to find out the cake was there. She talked to a lady named Brenda “ supposibly the manger in the bakery. So I went to pick up the cake and she and 2 of her workers LIED saying he didn’t come there to pick up cake. Well let’s pull the cameras because I know for a fact he went there cause I met him outside of the store. There was no apology or anything. I will be reaching out to head office to report her . For calling me a liar and my father. Never ever deal with these people for cakes. They are rude and disrespectful.

Going through some renovations currently. The new reno's look nice. Some of the product placement since the new reno is a bit confusing. They do have some new self check out tills, however if you're using your own bags, I highly recommend avoiding this. I tried it myself, and I spent 5 minutes on it, got one bag packed before giving up and just heading to a staffed till. If you bring your own bags, the system requires you to place the bags on, then you need a staff member to verify your bags before you can start. If you move/adjust the bags the system identified that the weight has adjusted by 0.01 grams, it warns you to put stuff back or take stuff off, but you can't do anything because all you did was adjust the bag. This requires a staff member to scan their card again, etc. Basically avoid the self check out unless you're not using bags or using their bags.

It's stayed open all through it's renovation, and the staff are always friendly and helpful. I can't tell you how many times I've gone in for a salad or pre-chopped veg and been happily helped upon finding an empty shelf. It's a great grocery store, and easy to park in and get in and out of!

Was there today at 2pm, Saturday September 14th. It was fairly busy, and after waiting in a line where the young cashier was obviously not trained to ring up vegetables (the customer in front of me), moved to cashier #2. As I approached, the young girl, in quite an angry tone, yelled "line 1 is open you know!" in front of a bunch of customers. I went to line 1 and apologized for "getting into trouble" (I didn't notice line 1 was empty). Seems that metro has cashiers that don't want to serve customers. I will not visit this obviously non-managed store again!

By stopping in here more frequently for some specific gluten free "Irresistibles" foods (which only seem to be available at this location, I live only a block from the other one but they don't carry the products I'm seeking regularly), I have come to get to know staff better as well as ser their very decent and fairly priced gluten free variety overall. I find all staff have been very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable during each visit. Recently (Sunday, May 12th @ 4:30pm for Management's reference if they read these reviews and so credit is properly received) I needed to return due to a couple of expired products I purchased in the morning which were not at all clear (no 4 digit annual date) and was pleasantly surprised how seamless the swap was made by staff. Still not being terribly familiar with the store, I saw a male employee with a reflective vest (assuming he worked there) and he assisted me immediately, directed me where to go while accompanying me (as opposed to simply the uninterested, wave of the hand "over there" which was kind and rare these days) and while chatting, he slipped away and retrieved two definitely not expired products since I wanted to swap, not return them...they weren't common so for how fast he left and returned impressed me, I also had every intention of going to get them myself so this was also appreciated. The cashier was talkative as well and made the transaction really very simple, admittedly, never having returned/exchanged food items before, I somewhat anticipated a headache but it was almost $20 for the two items so I figured it was worth my time. I'm happy to know they care and made it easy. This is only one example but a reflection of my experiences here, my impression of The Metro has grown and vastly improved over the passed few months. A great selection that is never out of stock, pleasant staff and a welcoming, easy to navigate store. Edit: So that others are not disappointed or wasting a trip, other reviewers have said this is a 24 hour store which it is definitely not. (I'm aware it was at one time however some reviews are quite recent.) Their hours are listed here which I know are accurate...just an FYI.

The bakery here does amazing photo cakes! Fresh and tasty, even can put different flavours together in one cake. I sometimes pick up a hot meal here. I'd probably buy bread here for the family if they had some that was made and baked in store. I've been visiting this store for a few years and staff have always seemed friendly. Prices are higher than some others for items not on sale. There's no pharmacy in store but is one further down the mall and another in the medical building across the street. I read in newspaper that operating hours were reduced to prevent store from closing. Hopefully with so many people moving to St. Thomas, that will benefit area retailers.

Each person needs to take a cart in as they take a count per cart which is kind of a nuisance if you are a couple going in to purchase one item or two which you need to make a unison decision about. 4 stars for that inconvenience but 5 stars for the super efficient staff inclusive of the young man who handles the carts super quickly. Today, May 5th 2018 at around 330pm I was in Metro in Trenton Ontario. And while walking through the store I stopped at a sample kiosk to try the Kellogg's protien bars. The gentleman that was presenting the sample was nice but something that surprised me was after trying the sample he leaned into me and very quietly ask me if I would pay him $4. He said, "Today is my very first day and the company I work for would like us to try and get $4 from each customer." I've never heard anyone ever ask me for money like that. So that makes me think because of the way he was asking, whispering it to me, this wasn't a company requirement. He was just begging for money. He was a man, looked to be in his 20s, full black beard and seemed to be possibly from india. I know the company who does the samples aren't Metro themselves but I'd like to contact the company that does to them and file a complaint.
