This store consistently impresses me with their fresh produce, fantastic variety (especially of organic, ethnic and natural foods) and their excellent customer service. Occasionally I have to shop at other grocery stores, and those stores always come off poorly compared to Mitchell's. I am especially impressed with the care for safety that they show for both customers and staff during this time of Covid-19 - offering far more safety measures than other grocery stores

I went in with my brother. He is 19 and I am 21. He wanted some beer so he tried to purchase 2 six packs and he was denied even with proper identification. My brother then went back in with our dad and even tho my brother and father were calm and respectful they were given alot of attitude and ignorance. These are 2 grown men trying to buy beer and they were denied with proper identification. Horrible service. Rude staff. Very inconsiderate considering none of us are minors and all had identification. Take your money anywhere else.

Beware their food from deli has tons of random disgusting ingredients not labeled at all. Always get a mouthful random disgusting sweets or capers or fruit on delicious classics. Again beware cause if you have allergies you will die if you eat here.

I rarely place reviews as it is just not my thing; however, when something so abhorrent occurs, one must act. So here is my complex experience as simply and broken down as best as possible. During these Covid19 times peoples temperaments are extremely volatile evidently. There was an mild misunderstanding, misdirection and conflict taking part at the front door of this establishment a manager caught some of it. Instead of attempting to de-escalate the situation this manager took it upon himself to verbally threaten a person with disabilities with extreme physical violence and followed me to the parking lot continuing to challenge me and video my vehicle, not unlike todays "Karen's"! No action has been taken by corporate nor the stroe. Be safe out there to the goid people and even to the rotten people, I still wish you no harm. frightened of these times woah ????

This used to be a great grocery store but over the past few years it has gone downhill. The owner doesn't care about customers and would rather save a buck when his staff makes a mistake than own up to the mistake. New items advertised in the weekly flyer don't show up for months. Avoid any cashier over the age of 30 because they'll be slow as hell. You have employees in the Joe Fresh section who are outright rude and lazy. I'd rather go to FreshCo and for any PC products I'll get them when I'm in Ottawa.

I went there for fresh clams. Asked the girl at the seafood counter for a dozen clams. She asked me if I wanted some ice in the bag ... I said "sure". She then put the clams in a bag, added a scoop of crushed ice and then weighed it to get the price. It was over $22. I asked why she didn't weigh them first and then add the ice and she said this is how they were trained. I said forget the ice, just put the clams in a bag .. that ended up being $14. I almost paid $8 for a scoop of crushed ice. I've never experienced that ... where they add ice before they weigh the food ... and tell you that's how they're trained. I wonder what other shady practices they're doing.

Great selection, but their customer service leaves a bit to be desired. Online ordering generally results in at least some goods that expire a lot sooner than other locations (think 2-3 days on breads, or meat that expires the next day). The store is well-organized, but they don't sanitize carts and instead leave that to the shoppers unlike other locations in the Ottawa Valley. It's a fine store, but you'll receive better service elsewhere.

Pharmacy people are outstanding. Beer selection is good. The staff are 'hit and miss' with regard to friendliness. Bakery is good. Management leaves a lot to be desired, as they don't seem to care if customers leave happy or not.

My husband does the grocery shopping normally but on June 3rd I went instead. It was during lunchtime. I was sent to cash 4 , I had my own bags and the lady commented in a rather unfriendly tone that I pack my own groceries...I knew that , there was no interaction no smile ...ok your having a bad day I get it. I went to pay and I didn’t have my wallet, I have my cards loaded on my phone but I never use them and after a few tries I apologized and asked if she was familiar with electronic bank cards. A very resounding NO was her response. My phone locked up after too many attempts and I kept getting the passcode wrong probably because I was stressed, then thought I left my wallet in the car so I asked her to hold my order, her attitude did not help. I went to my car but it was not there. I was finally able to pay with my phone and I left. Went home no wallet, stress level climbed big time . Came back to customer service and I had dropped it at the entrance , luckily an employee picked it up. I was able to meet the gentleman and thanked him. Good experience this time...but that cashier could have been more supportive I’m certain that she could tell that I was having a difficult time.

Had an unpleasant experience with one cashier at Customer Service who refused to scan my Optimim Card for a newspaper purchase, saying “we don’t scan those.” Yet, last week another clerk scanned the card without any protest! Sometimes reading material including newspapers is included in bonus points offers, that is why I always ask to scan the card. Spoke with the manager/owner who said he would address the situation. This store needs to improve front-end training & the customer service skills of some staff.

Good variety and lines move fast BUT That place is a lead box that lets zero cell service in and the wifi is completely useless. Like cannot load a webpage useless. Bummer when you are used to using a cell based grocery list service that you can’t access in the store. Nice courtesy to offer the wifi but a hole in the roof would be more useful.

Did not uphold their own refund policy of return within 14 days of purchase, because in that time they chose to put the item on clearance. This choice is not the responsibility of the customer by any means. On top of which, I was by no means going to argue with the cashier as it is of course not her call but the decision of the manager she just called to confirm, so when I asked to speak to them within 30 seconds they were on a conference call. Just all around bad business let alone manners to treat people in such a dismissive manner. Other than that it's your average grocery store.

Now that the old owners Steve and Tracy decided to sell the store and leave, tail between their legs and destruction left in their wake, the store has taken a decided turn for the better. The old owners, allergic to spending money, couldn't even be bothered to replace the failing lighting of the dimly lit store, as a smell of bleach wafted from the seafood area. I don't want to know why it smelled of bleach all the time. Jeff came in, renovated the store (including the lighting!!!), and the store has been better ever since.

Very helpful staff and smiles everywhere in the Store. I was happy to be assisted in the Pharmacy by their staff member. Lots of fresh produce and displays were excellent. The Bakery made delicious fresh bread and croissants. I enjoyed shopping at this Independent Grocer as the store was very clean, the staff were friendly and I liked the lay out of the entire store. For all the above reasons, I would shop at The Independent Grocer in Carleton Place again. Excellent Customer Care and Friendly and Precise Customer Services at all levels.

This is my first time ever leaving a review of any kind, and I was hesitant too but after reading other reviews of management at this store I feel strongly that how I was treated by the store Manger should be addressed. The owner of the store is always very friendly says hello to customers, always working hard on the floor doing something, as the owner I think he should be aware of the misrepresentation his store manger unfortunately gives the store. I had a price discrepancy the other day, when the store manger was called he was very rude and dismissive to me, I have never been spoken to so condicendonly. Customer Service was TERRIBLE!

Clean, good selection of items, produce very nice, good selection of deli meats that are low sodium, low nitrates. Sale prices can be deceiving and need to check price per gram or other measurement. Many sale items and multi price savings are 20 cents or less.

I purchased 2 packages of dog bones from this store and my dog refused to eat them. The dog would just sniff them and back away, something wasn't right. She gladly ate a bone that was purchased from the Metro in Perth. Anyway, at 7 bucks per package I thought it was worth the effort to return them. I didn't have a receipt, I thought the label with the store's info and the price would be sufficient. Nope. I'm done shopping there.

We use Mitchell's as our go to grocery store. We really appreciate the online ordering feature because with 4 young children, it can tough to go to store and shop in person. The online ordering staff are very friendly and helpful and if ever there is a problem thry are super accommodating to help make things right. Also, we are continually struck by the range of options and variety in a "small town" grocery store. The quality, variety, and service have been nothing but tremendous. Thanks so much for everything.

Very nice shopping experience always great deals on products and produce, butcher is friendly very helpful, bakery fantastic, deli section rt on with a very good array of cold cuts and prepared meals OH and the fish monger always has the Catch of the Day excellent! And finally with the legalization of beer sales in grocery stores this independent has now a better display then the beer store - I like it. The cashiers are friendly and lots of them to get you on your way. I haven't used the pharmacy but from the numerous Isles there are lots of over-the-counter products. This is a good store my favorite in Carleton Place. ????????

Definitely take their Covid-19 protocols very seriously and the store is very clean and organized. The only thing that I would suggest is maybe have a separate line or pathway for elderly or disabled patrons as some may find the long mapped routes to checkout a little tiring or tedious.

Normally Independent is good for prices but this one is way too expensive, probably because it's one of two main grocery stores in CP. Spent $150 and barely anything to show for it. I prefer to stop at Farm boy or Sobeys on the way home from work because you get much more/better quality.

Always helpful and pleasant when I use curbside going above and beyond. Didn't give 5 ???? because I sometimes need to check to ensure frozen food or hot food has been included. ************************** Sadly I need to change from a 4 star rating today to the lowest rating possible......Please, I trusted that the early time allotment for seniors and the immune compromised gave us some degree of safety. NOT SO, as a gentlemen ahead of me wasn't even wearing a mask!!!!! Please, you did nothing....yet our most vulnerable citizens were in your store. This is not acceptable. If someone has a problem wearing a mask TO PROTECT ME then have them prove it but at the very least have them shop when your most vulnerable are not in attendance!!!!!!

Store is clean usually have lots of products but prices are high, pointed out to the manager that two packs of toilet paper were cheaper than buying a the large one by almost $2 dollars, his response was we have no control of the prices they are made by head office, so you really have to pay attention to what they charge bigger is not always cheaper! Skillfully calculated to dupe people of a few dollars here and there! I am quick to figure that out in my head most people would need to use a calculator and that is something they count on.

We go to Mitchell's especially for the produce. It is the best of all of the choices in town. The baked goods are above average as well. However we had a recent disappointment when we tried a pizza and a sandwich from the Deli. The "Chicken Caesar Wrap" had absolutely no Ceasar sauce on it anywhere and the cheese on it was cheddar....not anywhere near what a Caesar should be. The chicken was dry with a powdery consistency. It also had some bacon on it that was practically uncooked. The sandwich was a strike out. We bought a "Penne Alfredo with Chicken" pizza because we thought it was a novel idea. There was no penne, no Alfredo and the crust had a horrible after taste. Between 2 of us we ate 1 and 1/2 pieces and threw the rest in the garbage. Another strike out. So 4 stars for the produce and groceries, no stars for the deli. I agree with a previous poster about the prices. It forces us to shop in at least three stores to get the best of all worlds.

We recently started shopping at Mitchell's because our previous main grocer (Walmart) no longer worked for our business. Walmart was often out of stock and dropped items that we had purchased for years. Pricing on small appliances were hard to find and many items were out of stock. Their produce section completely lacked any TLC in their presentation or maintenance. Mitchell's on the other hand always has advertised items in stock, their produce is nicely presented and their store is kept clean. The only bother I have is that pricing on some items is high. I am willing to pay a little extra in order to have a good shopping experience?

Not much social distancing, carts were not cleaned by workers prior to shopping and when we were checking out they did not clean the belt beforehand. The next costumer started putting their groceries on the belt while we were still checking out intead of waiting for us to finish our order. The employees should have people wait for the belt to be free.

I legit love doing my groceries here, and continue to support them even though I could probably save a few $ by shopping at Walmart across the street. What keeps bringing me back is the staff. They seem to genuinely enjoy their job, and almost always have a smile on their face. The owner is usually walking around the store, and he seems to make it a point to say "hello" to everyone he crosses paths with. They almost never run out of products, and the veggies, fruits, meats, etc are fresh and tasty.

Originally loved their cash system set up for covid...however this past time i was in they were allowing the next customer to walk up basically right behind you and put their things up before your order is even processed...what happened???
