Cheap produce. Don't buy meat here. Many canned and non-perishable are exactly the same as loblaws but cheaper. Great selection of ethnic food. Always security guards as this is a high-theft area. Cheaper than Walmart in some cases. Good place to shop for groceries on a budget!

I love this place, and FreshCo as a franchise. They have a great selection of items and you can fill your cart with a week's worth of groceries and end up with a bill half as much as you'd pay at most other grocery stores. My only criticism is sometimes the fresh produce area, specifically the vegetables like lettuce look quite small and wilted on a regular basis. But the prices here as a whole negate that. If you want to save money and get a whole bunch of groceries look no further.

Sept2021: since they got rid of the "covid" single line it's so hard to get through the aisles since everyone waiting to pay is taking up half of every lane. Poorly managed customer flow. Only 2 cash open with over 10 people waiting with full carts. The store is good. The customers take up the entire aisle, especially in the produce section, very hard to shop. Price matching.

April 2018: Apparently the "leave your bags at the entrance" policy has been there for years, that's what the cashier manager told me when I called to understand the reasoning behind it. For the 1st time in 6 months, I (along with all customers coming in- no discrimination there!) was asked to leave my backpack at the entrance. I simply decided not to shop there. With this archaic policy, they are simply telling you (clients) that you're presumed a thief until you step out of the store, great way to kill the shopping experience right at the door! Dec 2017: Great prices and nice selection on plant based alternatives. Service is also great so this has become my favorite grocery store. I also shopped with my own bags and no one came asking me to stop doing so as I should expect!

Impressive store, they seem to have a lot of fresh vegetables. I was able to get okra, scotch bonnet, plantain etc that I needed. I ddnt notice them clean or sanitize the carts so not sure about hygiene. The shelves were empty in some sections when I went so I couldn’t get much to buy except for vegetables and fruits. Prices are decent. Would definitely recommend, better than Costco in terms of overall prices for items

Nothing like standing in line to get your groceries through the cash and the cashier tells someone in the line behind you to come up the side next to her. Then you notice it must be her son or sons and they get to jump the line to be served before customers. Someone should teach the cashier that her kids do not pay her salary and customers that are buying things do pay her salary.

Bringing down my review from 5 (gave it 2 years ago) to one star after a horrible experience. Placing items for a different shelf price and charging way more and arguing on honoring for the actual price. The person answering the customer service call will sound so promising but when you get there they will not behave as promised in the call. Unfriendly service especially from a supervisor and a manager who just kept on arguing as though they were losing money from their own pockets. Would think twice before shopping here next time.

Love FreshCo. They almost always have the cheapest prices. Their banana game is poor though, they often sell low quality bananas. I haven't had issues with any of their other produce. I believe they have some unique items, not certain though (frozen food, international foods, etc.). There is one item that is a lot cheaper at FreshCo but I'm sorry I cannot tell you, I need my supply to always be there.

Staff is great with one big exception. The security at the door. When you are encouraged to bring your own bags to the store but security tells you to leave your backpack in an unlocked locker at the front. My pack is a small hiking style. I use it as a purse for when I do shopping so all my cards and personal affects are in it, including all my shopping bags. Some ask me to leave it, others just smile and say hi. Communication is severely lacking. I would not be object to a quick inspection if they felt the need but they weren't even open to that.

The meat is terrible!! And only 2 or 3 of the cashiers seem to be competent. I've never spent so much time in line at a grocery store in my life, and that's on an average day. The isles are small, and the fact that most of the people who shop there seem to be incapable of navigating the store without getting on the way. If it wasn't for the convinience of their location I would never go there again. And oh ya I almost forgot, the fact that I have to leave my book bag in some dinky locker and trust that it won't get stolen is the most absurd part about the whole ordeal.

When properly stocked and serviced this store could be amazing with their low prices for fresh vegetables and fruit.. but unfortunately the produce and meat section is ignored and left to rot.. it’s no longer a surprise to find rotting fruit or veg or steaks that have turned grey. For the past few months I’ve opted to go out of my way to shop at Loblaws down the road or Walmart that’s 10 minutes away. I’ve been to other FreshCos and I’m confident it’s not a FreshCo thing. This issue seems to be a store issue.

Five stars for the amazing, friendly, helpful and well-managed staff! I've been shopping at this location for years and the only problem I've encountered is at times, during peak hours and even slower times, they appear to be understaffed, however, I have noticed that if the staff are available, the management are quick to throw another person or two on the cash. If you're shopping for regular grocery items, there are few places in the city that are able to match the already low prices. The only "negative" thing I would say, and after speaking with several people about the store, the general consensus is that most Freshcos aren't known for having the greatest meat section in town, although I will add that their meat prices are always still quite low compared to other places and the variety of different sales they have make up for it. Regardless, FIVE STARS!

Great prices overall but extremely slow service going through the cashes. Waiting in line for 30 mins is poor. I think your head office is hurting you. Time to start rethinking about customer service. Maybe pay your CEO a little less and put a few more cashiers up front so most of your customers don't have to wait so long to pay for groceries.

Store shelves are not restocked for days after the new flyer posts. If you don't get there the first or second day of the sale, then there's very little or NOTHING left of sale items. This forces me to get to the store by 7am on Thursday mornings to make sure I have a chance to shop the specials. Not cool. Hire more staff

It's a good place if you want to find good prices and if you are lucky enough a good deal. It also has a great variety of produce. But, the quality of the vegetables and fruits is really bad. Sometimes it's imposible to find a good pepper or a good tomato. Be careful with the meat also, it seems that the temperature at which they store it is not the optimum.

If you're looking for cheap groceries, FreshCo is the place to beat. Regular prices on staples are among the lowest in town. The drawbacks are hit-or-miss product quality and excruciatingly long lineups after work hours. Especially for fruit & vegetables, you might have to dig through the bin looking for fresh items. This location has a large variety of Caribbean, Indian and Middle Eastern products.

I'm giving three stars cause the security guards are always on their phone, while I was waiting outside a women stole flowers and just put them in her car and the security guard was on his phone the whole time, makes me wounder what else he's not paying attention to and how much profit they are losing..... not to mention I've caught the guard walking around the store mask off making phone calls right beside people, this is unacceptable, I understand it's an easy job but pay ATTENTION!

Navigating through their usual clientele is a little irritating though and the fact that they have a security guard at the front door makes you feel a little off!

FreshCo is the closest to NoFrills in Toronto. They have pretty much everything and at low prices. Produce isn't the prettiest but if you know how to pick 'em you're good. For vegetarians, rejoice, they have a ton of veggie meat choices (in comparison to Walmart). Only con is they make you leave your backpack in a locker before you can enter. Annoying policy.

Things have been great here the past few visits. Staff is helpful when I ask for help. The cashier with colorful hair is always helpful and very nice. I love having her service when I shop here. But I did notice not all employees wearing masks. The security wasnt wearing one, one of the staff filling the fridges wasnt wearing one. Which was slightly concerning.but I do take into consideration that some people may not be able to wear them. But I do save alot of money shopping here.

Cashier charged me the wrong price on 3 items and refused to give me the item free. Legally in Ontario when you are charged the wrong price they need to give the item free. Not happy with that experience. The cashiers also rush you when you are packing your order. Never ever are there baskets at the door when you arrive. You are always forced to go to the checkout and get your own.

Today I had a romaine and 2 tomatos and was waiting in line at the first checkout for a solid 5mins listening to the cashier tell a woman who had asked for bags that she hadnt asked for them at all and then proceeded to wave some coins at her which got donated to the bag cause before tossing two bags in her direction and moving on to the next customer, all the while continuing to make snarky comments under her breath. Following this we all moved up in line and she turns to me and says in the most sassy disrespectful tone, "I'm closed, thats what the signs for!" Which only THEN did she place her sign on the convator belt. I was noticebly surprised which prompted her to shoo me off further. This nearly brought me to tears, what had I done? Why was I being treated so badly? Horrible experience....

The safety measures of the store is a joke. I was inside for 5 minutes getting ice cream and pop. Saw 4-5 people with no masks, this is during the staying at home order and peak of 3rd wave. I asked the cashier about why the guy in front of me and the lady behind me have no masks, she said some people are exempted and they can’t force them. I also work at a grocery store, everyone has to wear masks at all time, period. Shame on the freshco management. People wonder why Canada can’t get covid under control ????

I think freshco has good prices however their stock of the types of products you typically would find at another grocery store and the produce is not quite that fresh so the best before dates on most products you have to be very cautious about the best before dates because a lot of the stuff will expire quite quickly then when you go to another store and I once found milk that had been expired for nearly 3 weeks and other bags of milk that were nearly a day away from being expired so I think that the staff are not trained quite well and there aisles are not face properly and disorganized as someone who used to work in many grocery stores in the past

Small and cramped. Not nearly as big and shiny as the Loblaws down the street. But the selection of products is good - sometimes far better than that big Loblaws - and the prices are generally a bit lower. Conversely, FreshCo devotes none of its limited space to clothing, housewares, or wine; it sticks to the traditional range of his associated with grocery stores. There's a good selection of produce, including exotic produce for ethnic cooking, though it isn't always top quality, but, again, the prices reflect that. If you're willing to have a more bare-bones grocery shopping experience in exchange for better deals, FreshCo makes a good option.

This is by far my favorite supermarket in Ottawa. FreshCo offers a wide variety of fruits and vegetables at competitive prices in addition to meat, cheese, milk, eggs. It is a cozy supermarket with a wide variety of choices that tackle the needs of diverse communities in Ottawa. I highly recommend it as its prices are usually lower than those found in Walmart, Metro, and Loblaws.

this place is so gross. it's closer to my house than Loblaws so sometimes I try to give it a chance. am here now and literally every vegetable is mush, the milk feels warm in the fridge, and I took a picture of some orange juice on the shelf (with a for sale tag of course) that expired January 22nd. unless literally all you need is cans, do not waste your time coming here. (and the dry goods are usually damaged/dented half the time anyway)

Just moved down the street and use this store and everytime we got shopping I have noticed we have purchased expired moldy food and sadly didn't notice until we were home. So check the dates on bread especially got it moldy a few times, canned things like pilsbury and other(was expired for at least a month since it said June 7 and didn't move hear until July as well as meat be careful with your meat.

Today, I got treated so unfairly. First, the cashier was rude and throwing my items around pretty hard. I also got overcharged for a product. As soon as I saw that (I hadn't left the store yet, but had finished my transaction), I went back to double check I was right, before going back in line for a refund. So I walk back into the store with my cart, and the security guard runs after me. Yelling at me to get my attention. He then tells me I can't come in with my merchandise. I told him what I was doing. He said I had to leave all my bags at the entrance. I didn't want to leave 80$ worth of merchandise unattended, in an entrance, in Vanier. Sorry. Anyway, lots of shoppers at this point stopped shopping, and watched what was going on. It was super embarassing, they probably all think I got caught stealing. At this point I try to get to the cashier, by passing in a lane that wasn't too busy, but the guard wants me to go down the same aisle I came in from, where there's no room for me to pass. Making a bigger scene. He followed me all the way to the cashes, to make sure I don't steal anything. My child was with me as well, and he's also very embarrassed at the whole situation. I go to this store, I spend my hard earned money there, at least 3 times a week. THEY lie and steal from ME, with false advertisement, but make a scene, cause I'm walking in with bags of groceries to get my money back. What a mess. I'm not going there again, I'd rather spend more money in a place that will at least treat me with dignity.

The parent company makes great claims on their website about caring about customers and protecting them during this pandemic on their website. This location however is not so diligent. When I was there was a customer complaining that not all the employees were wearing masks as they walked around the store. While I personally did not see any employees within the store when I exited there were three employees (I'm guessing on bread) standing in the small area where customers pick up shopping carts, all without masks, standing around chatting. It should also be noted that this location, for the most part, does not clean it's carts. I have watched more than once as employees bring carts in from the parking lot and just put them in the area by the door where customers pick them up before shopping. While they do leave a roll of paper towel and disinfectant at the door, in that area, there is no signage to warn ppl that they should be disinfecting their cart before they use it. When I made mention today that the store apparently isn't cleaning carts I apparently greatly upset one of the employees who was walking around and heard me. Clearly agitated he told me that they can't clean the carts because there are not enough ppl on to do it. While I get that this may be an issue from time to time it seems to be an issue every time i've gone in the lat month and if that is the case then for heaven sake put up a sign to let ppl know they need to disinfect their own cart. Bottom line - if your health and that of your family is of paramount importance to you either be prepared to santize your own cart before using or perhaps ..... you may wish to shop elsewhere where health and safety is important to the establishment.

Extremely disappointed to go do our family's grocery shopping today and find that: - 1/5 patrons were not wearing masks (some were wearing face shields as if these were equivalent. They are not. Please read the City of Ottawa Guidelines) - There was no one at the door verifying if people were wearing masks nor were there any visual indications at that these are mandatory (no signage even though the city of Ottawa has plenty of posters you can print off their website). - One of the two security guards at the was not wearing a mask neither did he appear to have one on his person. - Cashiers were removing their masks between one shopper and another, touching their face, their mask, the groceries. This defeats the purpose of a mask. Some were wearing the equivalent of bad bandannas. Why aren't you supplying your workers with adequate masks??? - Persons stocking the shelves with their masks on their mouth and not covering their nose. What is happening here? Masks have been mandatory in indoor spaces in Ottawa since Tuesday. This store did things very well when the pandemic started, I'm sorry to see your motivation wane so much...

I do appreciate Freshco's low prices and availability. Love this store. However, their uneven enforcement of the Mask Bylaw makes this shopping at this location feel risky. If safety during COVID-19 is your priority, this location does not always enforce mask wearing. On this most recent occasion, there was a woman who was not wearing a mask inside while shopping. She was not asked to put on a mask, or leave. I'm surprised that she was permitted inside to begin with given security (I assume) is supposed to be ensuring compliance upon entrance to the store. This was not the first time as there was a previous showdown wherein a maskless man in line claimed he was previously allowed to shop in the store MULTIPLE times without a mask. It was other shoppers who drew attention to him (again, he was somehow permitted inside the store without a mask) and nothing was done on behalf of security. I will note that the employees wanted him removed, but security stated that they were just there to "keep the peace."

I had 2 red peppers, one yellow pepper and one orange pepper all in one of the plastic vegetable bags. They where all the same price so that’s why I decided to put them all in one bag! At the cash the cashier charged me the same weight four times for each pepper which came out to $4.16 times four ( for each pepper) so over $16 for 4 peppers! When I complained, she said that that is what the management told her to do! And it’ was my fault of putting them all in one bag! So be careful and look at ur bill!!

I would give the store 2.5 stars. It gets 5 stars for not being crowded. Everyone is spaced out even when you are lining up to the checkout lanes. The cashier was friendly, but the store was short staffed. I do have a problem with the fact that something I was looking for was on sale in the flyer and I couldn't find it. The produce section is extremely small and doesn't have everything you are looking for. What I don't like about the produce section are the two males standing around talking about sexist things instead of unloading boxes quickly for customers who need to gain access to that section. Management needs to speak to them about their use of language and stupid topics that interfere with their ability to do their jobs.

Strict no-bag policy had me go elsewhere. I argued with the manager for 20 minutes and I told him his policy was discriminatory towards people who don't come by car. I still don't know of another supermarket that does this. Tried to purchase a huge amount of drinks and was denied at the cash by Meghan the so called supervisor at this freshco on McArthur Ave. When we decided to split the items between different members of a family that don't live in the same household she informed other cashier to not allow the sale. I guess the store would rather lose sales and customers than guarantee customer satisfaction. Last time I visit the store which needs to better their customer service and cleaning/maintenance of the store as it is completely dirty both on floors and shelves.

Owners are extremely rude and put up some weird rules about not carrying bags in store, yet will not take responsibility for the bags kept in the cubicles outside and also will not be providing any locks. How can someone make such contradictory rules... ?!? Visit FoodBasics about a mile away, much better service and quality and cheaper prices..

Prices are competitive, and cashiers are quite nice and helpful. However security is quite tight and completely lacks any compassion towards persons with needs. Today me and my friend went shopping together, she was at check out before me and I was done way before her. I went outside to drink my juice to physically distance while I did so. Some time passed and I started to get worried. I approached the security guard to go check on her explaining that she's a senior and may need help. The response received was literally stop adding to my job!

Be ware of over charging and not getting refund after you speak with the staff and the manager. Just had a very rudenand unprofessional experience with this branch. The only thing the manager did is that she asked two workers if they recall this price. Simply they didn't honor their price/mistake. The worst experience I ever had in a grocery store.

Overall the store has good prices and the produce is usually fresh (better than Loblaws) but after experiences with the security guard posted at the front of the store, I will no longer shop there. The store has a strict "no backpack" policy, which I found out one day when I dropped in with my bag to pick up a few items and was told I had to leave my backpack in one of their lockers (little metal cubbies with doors, near the front entrance). I had no problem with that until I was told that they don't provide locks on these cubbies...apparently the customer has to bring their own. So when this happened I reluctantly left my bag there and went in to shop. The problem is, after going through the checkout and paying, I now had to leave all of my groceries at the checkout, walk out to the front of the store, pick up my bag and come back in to get them, leaving my purchases unguarded, next to two or three other people who were busy packing things into their grocery bags. It would have been extremely easy for someone to walk away with several of my items while I had to go and get my (unsecured) backpack. I returned to the store a few months later on my way home from work, dropping in to pick up some milk and a couple of items to make dinner...totally forgetting about store policy. Again I was stopped, and the guard asked me to relinquish my backpack, which contained a laptop belonging to my employer. Since I don't usually carry a padlock with me, he suggested I leave it on a pile of grocery boxes that were sitting behind him, saying that he'd 'try' to watch it for me. This time I was forced to leave and go shop at the Loblaws, as I wasn't prepared to put the laptop - and my job - at risk. Because of this ridiculous attempt to cut down on shoplifting by this store, I will no longer shop there, period. Loblaws is further away, and a pricier store, but until FreshCo stops banning bags and leaving their honest customers feeling like criminals, I will stay away.

I don't generally do my main groceries here, but it's close to home so very convenient when I just need to run out for a quick item or two. Pantry items are well priced and generally in stock, with the exception of certain sales when they sell out quickly. I'm not a huge fan of the quality of their produce.

Items are cheaper then other places. However the checkout counter staff was not very pleasant. I bought the mango cartoon for $12 and she check the quantity and told me it was supposed to be 4 mangoes instead of 5. After she sent the staff to check it, it was confirmed that it is in fact 5 mangoes... after that no apology. So other then check out staff all was good
