A few friends and I were doing an epic bike ride from Mississauga to Niagara and back on one of the hotter days in June. We have done this ride before and always made the value mart a stop for a quick sandwich and cold drinks. On this particular day, we did as we have done before and were enjoying the relief of the shade and convenient food when the manager came out and told us that the front of his store was no place for a picnic and we had to leave. Really? How petty of my Hendrik or who ever he is to be so unfriendly. We were being completely respectful to the space and other shoppers coming and going. After he went in, we remained and finished our lunch and had a nice conversation with a young family who were doing the same as us... need a say more?

We've stopped in here a number of times when touring the area to buy items for a picnic. The deli selection is somewhat limited compared to a Loblaws or Metro, but a nice lunch can be put together. Staff were generally friendly. Prices are reasonable by the up-market NOL standards, I suppose.

A nice local grocery store in a small tourist town, excellent prepared foods perfect for hungry travelers which we are. The good: the staff are friendly and helpful. The selection is better than what one would find in other small towns and offers a variety of local produce, a meat counter, and prepared foods. The not so good: watch out for out of date meats that are past their Best Buy dates; check the freshness of the vegetables as often they really should not be on the shelf, rotten tips of corn, black or wilted bagged carrots and celery. I mean, who eats this? We had to throw away half of it. They really need to input price changes better as you need to check that the price you are charged matches what is on the shelf. Maybe it was a fluke and due to a busy weekend.

Valu-Mart in Niagara on the Lake is a great neighbourhood grocery store. It carries many of the hard-to-find products one is accustomed to consuming in the city. Being a partner with Loblaws, many of the President Choice brands are readily available. Ace Bakery breads are stocked as well as many other artisanal breads and the produce aisle is always loaded with fresh, healthy vegetables and fruit. The butcher shop carries fine cut meats and where else can you find tenderloin beef cuts for two readily stocked and at a reasonable price! The staff is friendly, courteous and very helpful and once you become a regular, a lot of fun. A great neighbourhood experience.
