What retailer does not back their products they sell! When I went to Home Depot with a warranty issue well past 90 days no questions asked. Tried to get hold of them today and was shuffled off to a department that picked up the phone 5 times, refusing to answer each time. Phoned again and was told by customer service she couldn't find the prices on her computer and I'd have to talk to the department. I hung up. Don't try and get hold of these people, they don't care. I had a great experience with this Lowe's. After buying a Broil King Bar BQ for $1200 dollars almost two years ago, and it rusting out, etc. I went to the manager Derek and after I told him how much hassle I had with Broil King, he simply replaced my Bar BQ with a similar priced Weber. He then dealt with Broil King and I was good to go. He has hooked me as a life long customer.

The store was clean and washrooms were as well. Staff was friendly and very helpful. Finding some items were a bit challenging as they would put them on end isles in random locations. Prices are fairly good. We also like how the display items are at eye level instead of up high and out of reach such as home depot. Overall a nice store.

Uneventful. Not that you expect a hardware store to be. Prices are average to high with a few deals sprinkled in now and again. Selection of tools is sub-par to average. Staff are humble and non & instrusive but also having an obvious air of dissatisfaction but this may due to Covid. Previous help over multiple visits from staff was lead or followed with a heavy sigh. More than once was given poor or inaccurate directions to items in the store. This was mostly due to "not my department" attitudes. All in all, it's a hardware store. I buy the stuff I need and don't stick around very long.

I have to update my review of the Lowes in Nanaimo, they have more than redeemed themselves from the experience I had 8 months ago. I have had such amazing service from the appliance department, the plumbing department and the countertop department. I had a fridge fail quickly and the manager there had it removed and brought back to the store, and gave me a loaner while they were sorting it out. They ended up by giving me a full credit while I continue to use their loaner, and they ordered me a new one. They also held my appliances for me prior to my move. The plumbing department also volunteered to link the delivery of a heavy cast iron sink to my replacement fridge delivery so it will not cost me for delivery. And then, advised me of an upcoming sale so I could get the drains and sink grids at a lower price. So BIG thank you to Melissa and Trevor in those departments. And tonight, the associate in the countertop department went beyond expectations to quickly determine the square footage we required for our counters and is following up to see if we need to have a seam in the tops with the fabricator, and will be emailing me. Not sure what her name was, but a big WOW and thank you too! We are renovating a condo in Nanaimo with the good help from the staff in Lowes. There does seem to be a new group of staff there, who are knowledgeable, friendly, and go beyond expectations. Big Shout Out and Thank you!

Went in for some flooring, turns out it was on clearance and I saved $2900. They were very helpful, loaded me up with my pallet load of flooring and advised me to buy as much as I could and I could return what I dont use. Great staff, better experience than Home Depot

Don't go with Lowe's for window coverings or installation. Their floor staff were nice and knowledgeable, but after you sign the order you're at the mercy of Lowe's complete incompetence regarding third party installers. Our installer mismeasured a window, neglected to bring the appropriate tools for installation of one blind (despite her note that it would be required) and then didn't tell Lowes that she hadn't installed two of the blinds because of that, nor ask for a re-order on the one blind that she had mis-measured. Our order was put in and paid for in June, and it's now the end of September and we still have had to prompt Lowe's every two weeks to find another installer and to get them to re-order the mismeasured one and now more than 6 weeks later find they didn't bother to call us when it was finally delivered and ready to install. They are the slowest, most dysfunctional retail organization and I would not recommend anyone deal with Lowe's installation services. You'll grow old waiting for your job to be finished.

Have been to this store now two or three times. All very fine experiences with the staff. They are friendly and knowledgeable about their products. One thing that stood out for me is that they are all eager to help, from the store manager right down to the clerk who helps me load my truck! It's worth the drive from Youbou to go here!

I went to Lowe’s for a purchase and attempted to use my veteran’s discount - which US stores honoured when I was down there - even though my service was with the Canadian army. I’ve also used it here in Canada. However, neither the manager or the “customer service specialist”, who had been there for “years” had ever heard of it. I shake my head at the Lowe’s in Nanaimo and won’t be going back again. Disrespectful.

I currently was shopping at Lowes North end of Nanaimo, I have spent thousands over last several months renovating my house. This particular visit I had one of the employess raise his voice and tell me to put my dog on a leash, I asked if I could get the PL400 and he said no, while another employee lead me to the PL400. As I was leaving to pay for the product the very loud pretty much yelling employee said DOGS ARE NOT ALLOWED PERIOD... Well I spoke with the check out lady as I have been in this store several times a week, they said it was an unspoken rule that dogs are allowed in.. Bottom line I do not think an employee with that attitude and aggressive behaviour is at all good for your business. I spoke with two other employees who 100 percent agreed the treatment was over board and uncalled for.. This employee however may be a good worker but I feel he should not be dealing with customers

Trying to buy a $2000 Ariens snow blower but because there are none in stock in Nanaimo and there are none within 100 km, I can't buy it. They get truck loads of stuff from their DC every week but won't ship it...seems they don't want my money on something like this. Had to return a few items yesterday. The new policy at Lowes is to not accept any returns due to the virus. First of all who is to say that twenty people before me had not handled merchandise in the store? So me wanting to return an item is infected any more that what they are selling in the store? The reason I shop there is the fact that I can return items when I need to. I start a project and buy a little more than I need and return them once I'm finished. Now they say I can't return anything? I don't care if you have to use six foot tweezers to make the return..... this is a required service . This is a half baked, over the top reaction. No problem I'll just mosey over to Home Depot... ridiculous.

Has all you need but a way over priced. Edit: New experience with Lowes. Bought an $800 Cub Cadet lawnmower at Lowes on Thurs, put it together Fri and ran it with no problems for about an hour, went to finish cutting the grass on Sat and no start. Tried everything possible and finally called Lowes. Nothing but a run around from wanna be manager Willie and they just passed me on to the manufacturer. Said no return because I put gas in it. Well if I didn't put gas in it how would I know it's not going to start. I would expect to get more than 1 day of use and better product support from Lowes. Never had a problem with the competitor. That does it for Lowes and my wallet and everyone I can tell my story to.

Avoid this place at all costs!! Willie the assistant manager gave me BRUTAL service... How awful... I went in to grab some paint... Simple enough right? I noticed the cans were bent and didn't think it was a problem. My thought never crossed that they would be cracked... I didn't notice because it was so subtle a leak... Until I came home and saw this on my floor. *total amateur I should have had the carpet covered* So I went back to the store and WILLIE the assistant manager wouldn't acknowledge that the store sold me a defective profit... The counter girl Ali was super supportive and told me he was a nice guy. He came out and immediately his energy was that I was wasting his time and that there was no way to prove that they sold it to me like this. I embarrass myself in the store as my confusion leads to frustration that he instead goes on to tell me in his 7 years he's never seen this happen. As if this was his problem to not acknowledge and his length of time at a job has something to do with it. No refund, no free cleaner, no apology, instead he says he'll give me a discount on my next purchase... How absolutely unfortunate that Lowe's has THIS level of customer service at the MANAGEMENT level... Over a $50 can of paint? Lowe's? You're going to treat a customer like this? After now I have damages to a house that isn't mine, costing me much more to repair this... This is a big company. Reviews and testimony like this isn't worth the can of paint Willie... You have to learn how to empathize and treat your customers with respect if you ever want to get out of the world of assistant manager. Absolutely disappointed and looking for every opportunity to avoid ever having to shop there again, and every opportunity to steer everyone I know far away from this place. I will say that the other employees acted cordially and helped me to find product, and even felt my pain with me. It was unfortunate that this location has people like Willie somewhat in charge. I went to a North End home improvement store, it only had 1 type of wall plates I needed and they were erroneously out of stock. I then went to Canadian Tire and they were closed. Luckily I noticed Lowe's is right beside Canadian Tire and they not only had stock, but they had 3x the wall plates, better prices and I could even find closer matching colors given the amount of choice. Next time I'll just go straight to Lowe's, I was pleasantly surprised.

My husband and I are renovating a rental unit we have and we needed a new vanity a new kitchen cabinets and many other things. We went over Friday night and we asked for help. Costumer service called a woman named Lori, she was the most helpful employee I ever had in a store like that. Things she didn't know she made sure to ask the right people, she took her time to help us and she was so good that she even waited with us by the cashier when we were leaving to make sure things went okay. Lowe's doesn't want your cash: I attempted to make a $5 purchase with a $20 bill and it was a big cuffuffle and a time consuming ordeal. The cashier had to call her manager to request this $15 in change.... it took some time for her to call the manager to explain the whole situation, and for the manager to walk the $15 in change to the cashier from some other location in the store. Very bizzare for a major franchise in a first world nation.

It was difficult to even find the place and then we were unable to find anything we were looking for. We were also unable to find anyone working that could assist us. Finally we found a help button and an associate came by and asked us what we needed. We asked if he could look for a specific type screw for us and he told us whatever is there is there and would not even look or help to find them and he then walked away. We didn't purchase anything and left to go to home depot. Will not be going back here

I placed an order in May. It was to be delivered June 03. I had not received it by June 20th, so I sent several requests to Lowes for order status via email with no response. In Mid July I still did not receive my order. I spent several hours trying to determine what happen to my order and finally I got my Money back. Apparently once Canada Post picks it up, Lowes washes there hands of it. It is upto the consumer to follow up. Sold my client countertops that were not the same width for her kitchen, and wouldn't help her out with any sort of discount when she had to return the ones that were too small. Blew her budget right out of the water as she was forced to replace them with more expensive tops because of their mistake. Mistakes happen and sometimes there's a breakdown in communication but they were 100% unwilling to meet half way on the problem. I deal with a lot of building suppliers in Nanaimo, and Lowe's is by far the worst I've had to deal with when it comes to customer/contractor experience.

My wife and I were just into the store in Nanaimo. We both have to say that we were very impressed with the service offered by this outlet. Everyone that came remotely close to us asked us if we needed help or if we were finding what we were after. Steve, in the door and window section, was very helpful in finding what we needed. There was also a young fella that told us about the contractors card that would get us 15% off from Monday to Wednesday of this week, and if we got that card our deliveries would only be 40$ within a 50km radius. Impressed? Yes we were. When we paid for the goodies we bought, we received a 25$ gift card because we spent more than 150$. I then decided to buy some “Gone in 30 seconds” for our roof. The young lady at the till said “you need to return what you bought and then buy all of it together so that you can get another 25$ gift card”. Impressed? Yes we were. She didn’t have to save us 25$ yet she did. Basically we got one gallon of the cleaner for free because she was cognizant of what was going in. All in all, we were both very impressed with the service and the people at the Lowes in Nanaimo. We will definitely be back. In fact, we went over to the Home Depot right after this visit and my wife was not impressed at all.

This store is good and staff are helpful. I am, however, very puzzled at the fact there are 18 handicapped stalls out front. EIGHTEEN. This is close to half of the small parking lot they have. Very peculiar.

Store is massive and hard to find anything as the end isle labels are very general, we were there on black friday and there seemed to alot of staff around but trying to find one that isn't already helping a customer or having a casual conversation about nothing related to the store or helping while we waited around was frustrating. Finally a young worker we found and flagged down, he helped to the best of his ability and found what we were looking for, seems like this is the only place to get 3/8" threaded rod holder c-clamps.

UPDATE- The store manager has contacted me and offered delivery and a deal on the umbrella as an apology for the poor service. Worst customer service ever! Took an hour and half for them to tell me they were sold out of what I want. Got to Lowes a 5pm to get a hose connector and patio umberla. After seeing no one working in patio section got hose stuff first. Got help right away with that but when i asked for help with the patio umberla he told me I need to speak to seasonal. Waited again in seasonal for service for about 15 to 20 minutes before getting acknowlged by a staff person who was busy with another customer. Waited another 20 minutes for him before giving up and going to Canadian Tire. Canadian Tire was closing so back to Lowes. Saw the same staff person again he apologized for the delay and went to get the umberla. Over 25 minutes later he was still a no show. Spoke with Assistant manager Dan who then told me the umberla was sold out. I asked if i could pay for it now and have it delivered to my home and he said they coukd not offer free delivery. When i asked him why his staffing was so low he said the guy should of asked for help and pointed to another Staff member there. That Staff person walked by me 6 or 7 times without even ackowleding me once! To sum up I spent 1.5 hours in Lowes with my 4 year old on mothers day evening for nothing thanks to Lowes poor service.

Like the store. Bright and clean with helpful staff but checking out is the worst front end I have ever experienced. Since the first week the store opened I have not had a good experience checking out. They never have enough tills open and the cashiers can't do more than two customers without having to call a supervisor. Home Depot and Canadian Tire can have 50 people lined up at the checkouts and I still get through faster than if I am first in line at your store. This happens every time I shop at your store. Checking out is the last phase of shopping in a store and if it is unpleasant it will taint your whole experience with that store. Once or twice under special circumstances but not every time.

I bought a showerhead during COVID. After I installed it, I was not happy with the product. I went to return it without the receipt, or the original packaging, and there was no problem whatsoever. I was attended to by the store manager Deryck, who is great in my opinion. I did try and do the same thing the day before when Deryck was not in. The clerks in charge kicked me out of the store. I dont think they were trained well enough in their store policy and like one of the previous reviewers mentioned, they were hysterical over COVID. Deryck is the store manager and is a fair person to deal with. I went from the day before vowing never to return to that store ever again, to being a loyal customer. Deryck is the best!

Requested a vanity that was on sale on the front page of the flyer. Despite it being the front page sale, they didn't stock it in the store OR warehouse. Made me prepay anyway and promised a 2 week arrival. Repeated promised arrival dates followed and were always lies. 2 1/2 MONTHS later it finally shows up. Yeah... not weeks...MONTHS. The embarrassed and frustrated staff looked into it, and this was the case way before it was advertised. Zero available for the entire west coast of Canada, and Lowes knowingly did this, hid this, and lied to customers about it. Angry staff talk. A Better Business Bureau review is well underway. If you're ordering from Lowes, you better not be in a hurry! I can't imagine how long peoples orders farther down the list took (I was first).

Was very disappointed that an attendant said they would be phoning the next day with a quote for stone for around the bottom of our whole house. They did not get back to us and still haven't after a month. Since they won’t post my review I will post it here regarding the purchase of a snowblower. Not worth it I have had Briggs & Stratton engines before and they performed well. The engine here is easy to start but that’s not the problem. Even on a flat surface once the snow starts get wet/slushy this 208cc has issues powering through. You have to take half to third width passes. It doesn’t handle pure slush at all and the belt gets wet so it slips and eventually won’t work at all. I have a100ft driveway with 20% grade and the unit will make up the driveway but conditions need to be no worse than moderate wet snow. This machine is also heavy and you end up pushing it to help along which is exhausting. The real salt in the wound here is that I expressed these concerns to the salesman when I purchased the machine to which he stated it should work fine but if it didn’t there was a 90 day return policy. A no brainer and I felt that I could purchase knowing if I needed something else I was covered. Nope... I went to return the unit and was prepared to spend more on another unit but I was informed that I could not return it because it was oil/gas powered. Would have been nice to know before buying an $800 product. I called to speak with a manager and while I did get a call back from the department manger I also had a call into the store manager, twice, to discuss the need for explicit training to protect the consumer from erroneous information from staff. This is a big investment. I never received a call back to address my concerns. No customer satisfaction here.

The service here is pretty hit and miss. Many of the staff members clearly often have more important things to do. Whether they just blow by you so fast u cant even ask for help, or just look at u when you're standing with an arm load of stuff at an empty check out and tell you there's no one to operate the checkout right now and carry on their way (just happened!).

I find this store a bit confusing. The layout doesn't always make sense. Adding to the confusion is the lack of knowledge of some of the customer service staff. When asking for directions to find specific items the staff either dont understand what you want or don't know if the store carries the item. Prices are a bit more expensive. It is nice to have a hardware store in the neighbourhood but some more orientation any on going training could help the staff.

I am giving the staff 5 stars for having to put up with rude people that think they are entitled . I have been doing construction on the island for the last 6 months and seen and heard a lot of these people at all the retail stores that I shopped at. If you respect people and are pleasant they will more likely help you. Then when I go to post I found and laugh at some of the negative comments that are blamed on the store but if you checked that can of paint or know how a warranty works you would not have had any issues. And with the phone people I know I find it inconsiderate when people are answering your calls when other people made an effort to get up and go to the store. I would like to see more people treat our blue collar workers better because with all the online shopping all these jobs will be eliminated for all the retail stores.

Worst staffed outfit, employees hide from costomers, anyone or management that holds any weight, will likely be hiding in the back, or on break. Save yourself the extra money you expect to pay to get decent service in a store like this, and source your building supplies from anywhere but here

My wife and I have been in the Nanaimo store two or three times. We are not just customers, but also construction contractors. Not once has any of the staff or manager said hello or can we help you. More like avoid customers when seen. Prices are high , customer service sucks . I totally understand why they are closing stores . I believe if they did better training to their staff, educated their staff and simply hired nicer people ......they might have a chance to stay in business. My opinion, don't waste the gas or your time shopping at Lowes in Nanaimo.

Recently we had a Oklahoma Joe Smoker BBQ on order which was shipped to the Nanaimo, BC location. My husband called the store to organize pick up and Assistant Manager Murray Salmon was extremely professional and very accommodating. When he arrived at the store the BBQ was built and an employee was on hand to assist with the loading of it into the pickup. The quality of service and the BBQ was 5 stars.
