Their selection of cat food is OK but definitely not as good as Bosley's out by Woodgrove Mall. Service at Buckerfield's also leaves something to be desired. Some staff are ok, some are just plain RUDE!! Acting like they are doing you a favor to have them ring up an order. It is the other way around!!! Lots of pet stores in Nanaimo, I don't think they would be doing as much business, without the additional gardening supplies they sell. Probably won't be shopping there again, based on a recent visit and the rude sales clerk who cashed us out (short dark hair, short, no glasses...no name tag). She certainly didn't make us feel welcome or appreciated, only concerned with getting back to visiting with another staff member. Not acceptable in my books!???? Bosley's staff is consistently helpful and friendly and their selection and prices are better too, based on the cat section. Also provide free samples that are really appreciated. None of those at Buckerfield's either.???? Not impressed!

I've been going to Buckerfield's for many years. I use to buy dog food from there but later moved to another supplier as I switched to raw meats. My recent visit has me looking for irrigation supplies, but I did not find what I wanted. However that didn't stop me from looking around a bit. They always have something that I might need. Whether a pair of boots, a tree or plant, or a gift for someone. Staff are always friendly.

Staff here tries to come off as nice and decent people but really they are a bunch of typical, judgemental people who accuse me of being a theif; because of my tattoos probably. The older blond woman that works here EVEN GRABBED MY POCKETS to check me for stolen merch. I'm very offended and I will d DEFINATELY NOT RECOMMEND ANYONE going here, unless you have to for your animals.

I have never been treated so rudely by anyone in my whole life. In the first week of May 2016 I was in the Southgate location buying dog food. I approached the till to ask about having someone carry it out for me. The young lady,I think her name is Megan told me to hang on a minute. She appeared to be texting or looking at her phone.. After standing there for a few minutes I again asked if I could get some help. She looked at me like I was an insect of some sort. She then got on the phone and called a man out from the back. She instructed this man to "get this guys dogfood out of here". I paid my bill and I never got so much as a thankyou or eye contact. Very rude service.

I'm tired of being sold low quality items or given the wrong feed bags. There is no catalogue and when I asked for hay last week i was charged for the most expensive compressed dirt/ shake hay. My animals sneeze when they tried to eat it because there is so much dirt in the hay. The staff seem to be trying their best but I'm sick of how rushed they are to get through the customers and don't take time to make sure the customer is getting what they asked for. This is not a good farm store

Such rude service; never experienced such unprofessional attitude from a manager before. Vicki treated me like garbage. Good products though; however, since this experience I've found shar-kare to be top notch in customer service and their prices are significantly better than buckerfields, and I mean up to 30% for the big ticket item I was searching for. They're worth the extra 5 minute drive from where I live.

I bought that bee feeder two weeks ago in buckerfield south nanaimo. It was missing 4 corners, that I did not know about. I ended up drowning 2-3 thousand bees. Went back to bucket field to get the missing corner prices, they told me that was not there problem. That I should of known I was missing 4 corners and they can sell me one at a reduced price, but they do not want to give me the corners or do anything with the one I bought. So beware buying anything for bees, as you are 100% liable, and they take no responsibility in assuring products. That's what they told me.

When my partner and I were shopping here we heard a screeching sound. We found a mouse trapped on a sticky pad, screaming and pulling at its feet to try to get free. As we were trying to free it an employee came and took the pad and mouse from us to take it to the back room and obviously put it out of its misery. When we complained about the cruelty of these traps the woman at the front desk was not hearing us and just kept apologizing about how bad the mice problem at the store is. Buckerfields, for a store that supplies humane live traps & animal care supplies, please stop the use of these cruel and painful traps.

So, it is sad that after supporting this store for 14yrs, buying all pet food and plants/soil/garden supplies, and even calling police one night to stop a robbery of landscaping plants, I go in to return dogfood since my pet passed away, but nope, no can do, not without reciepts for all of it, sheesh, been shopping there so long, yet not even cut a break. Well I handed over the $6per can food and just walked out. If loyalty counts for nothing, I might as well shop any old place. Btw: I didn't even get a thank you for stopping that robbery of a truck load of plants. Plus the police let them go saying I could not identify the theives, but I was told to not get close..life really is stranger than fiction. Adios.

The only place I find zignature food the kangaroo kind. Fantastic for my dog with allergies! They have a buyer's program which after a certain amount gives you a free bag. Also the only place that sells Tabasco Dark Chocolate! Sooo good! The staff is pleasant and helpful. I live north of Nanaimo but still make the trip because they don't have a location in the north end.

As an owner of a small farm , we buy most of our feed grains there. The staff are great and are always willing to help with your farm, garden or pet needs. They also have a selection of work tools. Shovels,rakes,axes etc. Wild birds supplies as well.

Whole store is literally infested with mice. I even heard one time that there was a dead mouse in a customers bag of dog food after she fed her dog over 3/4 or the bag. If you do but any type of animal food here please check for holes in the bag because its a very common occurrence for bags to have bite holes in them!
