Independent is a better grocery store than its predecessor. A Loblaws store with PC products, but over priced in comparison to other similar stores areas such as Ottawa, North Bay, and the GTA. Its your only option in Petawawa unless you go to Canex or venture into Pembroke.

My experience is usually excellent. No complaints. But today our cashier was not friendly at all. A case of pop from our cart fell out and opened all over the floor and she didn't ask if we wanted another or if we needed tape or even if we were ok. I realize life is a bit stressful right now but there isn't any reason to be uncaring or rude. A bit disappointed.

Clean, excellent grocery store. Sometimes the lines are long, but it's the best store in the area. Well lit, good selection, PC Optimum, awesome deli, good selection of meat and seafood. They've done a lot of remodeling recently and made their aisles wider, which is nice during COVID-19. They've also added in 6 self-checkouts, which are the nicest I've used in Canada. Still prefer a real person, but they're not bad when you're in a hurry. The only thing I could complain about is sometimes they don't have the items advertised in the flyer as being on sale, especially when it comes to meats and cheeses.

I just wanted to say how taken aback I was on the price of the Yves vegetarian products. The 4 pk veggie burgers were priced at 7.49! That is a very serious markup. I lived in Goose Bay, an isolated posting, for 3 years and those are the prices I expected to see there. I do much of my grocery shopping at Food Basics in Pembroke now ( 20 mins away). At this store I paid 5.99 for 8 Yves Veggie burgers( they are on special right now, normally they're 7.99 for 8). At Freshco in Carleton place, just an hour and a half away, they are 3.99 for 4 and 5.99 for 8. My very big concern is that these items are marked up so high because of the military base. I really hope this is not the case. I also find these prices will discourage others from even trying vegetarian food. Please reply back to this. I will be posting my question and your answer in my online review and on my Facebook and Twitter accounts. Thank-you, Juanita Bowen I want to add that I never did get a reply from the grocer. *** just want to say the cashiers are really sweet though.***

The cashes are well staffed so line ups are not usually very long. The produce is well maintained. Very nice and well laid out grocery store, very much like the larger Fry's/Kroger store with garden center at side. Prices are steep, good quality produce and hard to find products. Feel awkward with all the folks making out in the aisles, or in front of the produce. Thank God this place doesn't sell beds! Leave the kids at home, or maybe bring the screaming ones to cool the jets and keep the Trojans flying off the shelves. The cashiers are very pleasant.

Amazing service from the floral department and the new manager Val. I came in to get flowers for my wedding in March and both Val (the new manager of the store) and Cathy (floral department) were extremely helpful. They ordered in flowers for me to look at and helped me with questions I had about arranging bouquets. The day I was to pick the flowers up there was an issue with the number of flowers I ordered so they ran around town looking and eventually finding me what I needed. They went above and beyond for me.

My wife and I are on isolation and cannot leave our house. We had a friend pick up an order for us on aug 30. I opened 2 pork chops set to expire on sept 2 on the 31 and they were rancid. They had an obvious stink and a grey film over them. I had a 3rd chop set to expire on the 4th and it was good. Having to bother our friends to pick up 2 chops to rectify this grocers obvious disregard for food safety was their only way to fix the issue. In the end, they were kind enough to credit my pc express account.

Some people say it's expensive but shopping there and other places yes some have better prices on some items but not that big of a difference. The PC Optimum point system is awesome as you can load offers and gain additional points that make it add up quickly for redemption. The only issue with Independent is they don't Price Match like other competitors in the area and their prices are alot higher. I would say this place is perfect for quick pickup of groceries for the couple things you need on the list then getting all your groceries here.

SO EXPENSIVE, this place will cost you your first-born child, but the staff are super friendly and helpful, and they have great selection/stock. I find that they often have meat on sale at a better price than most places in the area like Wal-Mart or no frills.

Pretty good store, although it's pretty much the only option in town. I would give 5 stars except that once in a while I go in and there's just an empty shelf where something I need should be and one time a few weeks ago I grabbed some milk without checking the date and when I got home it was 2 days past the expiry date.

What a disgrace to call a grocery store. Never in my life have I had such bad quality food in over a dozen products. Products that when I go to 2 other grocery stores in Pembroke always turn out perfect. I’m not one to be rude but I had to give a honest review . I have literally purchased items from this groceries to find out there missing content in the packages! . Chicken drumsticks that are pure fat!. Not to mention 1/3 of the store is almost on there expire dates. Simply a Joke to be called a grocery store. REMEMBER check EXPIRE dates here people !!
