This my favorite of the two Dutchie location by far! As this was the first Dutchies localation within KW! If your looking for excellent deal on fruits and veggies and meat than this the place to shop! They do have a small baked area at the back of the store as well! The staff is very friendly and outgoing! This just a small little store so at times the store can get overly busy for it size is it’s one down fault!

I thought it would be like farm boy or whole foods but was also surprised at the prices. Went in for lettuce and left with a ton of fresh produce. Will definitely be my go to for produce!

The owner Mike had a major fit on an employee because they didn't put the bags of grapes on the shelves "properly". It wasn't just frustration, it was anger driven verbal assault. The employee was in literal tears! So much for the "Christian" image Mike is portraying... In addition to that, they also stole a large amount of money (by refusal of payment) from a friend's small business. Thou shalt not steal... The food isn't fresh, produce goes bad quickly, and the "sweet nante carrots" you pay through the nose for, are from larger bags of carrots that are moved into the smaller cellophane bags. They go through staff like cheap toilet paper, and they lost all of the good people like Shirley K, and the lovely perky Charlene who always greeted people when they came in the store.

Prices are great, fresh and great selection at this Waterloo location. Service is also great unless you get this old blonde lady. She’s the slowest worker there! Every time I happen to see her as the cashier and it’s just her I know it’ll be a while. Today, actually right now as I’m standing in line typing this...this is happening, literally all she did was complain how long the line was to customers and it just got longer and longer. There was something she needed price checking on and she kept saying how she can sell it if there’s no price and kept going on and on but didn’t actually call anyone.... Then the lady that was handing out meat samples came over and was doing something at the other til and the blonde lady kept saying how she hasn’t had a break. The other lady took over and the original lady just stood there and kept complaining....then she finally walked away. Half way down going to the back....she turns around and says are you sure you’re okay up here the lines are too long...no no no I’ll come back and comes back but didn’t actually help for another 3 minutes as she was complaining about how there’s no breaks and help around!!! Wtffff are you serious lady!!! Oh now she’s telling the other lady who came to help her to stop people from going to her line. She only opened for 3 people. Why not just yell out yourself and say your closed? Jesus. Oh some lady wanted to bye some raspberries. No pricing. She’s asking my cashier who came over to help her...she literally told her not to talk to her hahahaha. Omggg now she’s telling the customer she can’t sell this. There’s no price on it. Jokes Worst employee ever! Kudos to the woman employee working with her tonight and all the other staff that has to. This lady is the worse!! Because of her 5 stars is now a 1. 17 minutes later in the cash out line I’m finally paid and leaving.

Don’t ask questions if you’re at this location. Boy did we ever encounter the crabbiest cashier!!!! She did cash this morning on December 23rd, 2020. It’s the holidays lady!!! We asked for confirmation for price of strawberries and she was not too happy to help. I later asked if I could leave my mandarin cardboard box behind and just take the mandarins. She mumbled angrily, rolled her eyes and said something but I couldn’t make it out. After I loaded my mandarins and handed her the box, she chucked it on the other cash counter. We didn’t want to add fuel to her already super grumpy morning so we just left.

Good pricing but meat quality is not great. Bought a whole pack of chicken and opened it up. Smelled like it was rotten or bad. Smell was so strong it almost makes you sick. I would not recommend their meat products. .

This place is a humble mini market with the best deals for meat and fresh fruits and veggies. They have excellent customer service and the food quality is unrivaled. Great fresh food for frankly insane prices. Meat, veggies, fruit all sold for way cheaper than supermarket prices. Deli meat is frequently under a dollar per 100g, strawberries/blueberries/raspberries/blackberries for literally half the price of Loblaws.. I'm not even sure how they stay in business to be honest

Dutchies may or may not be a place that you want to shop all the time, but I recommend you check it out at least once. It has a somewhat unusual selection of meat and produce. It is operated by members of the Mennonite community. If you are a sausage lover, make sure to check their great selection. Also, keep an eye on their frequently published flyer for great deals. The main downside is this is a place you visit to add to your grocery shopping rather than a place you get everything.

Great produce always, and lots of really great deals. Unfortunately they no longer have their deli service in the store. This means instead of just being able to grab a couple sausages, you have to get a 5-pack. However, if I'm being completely honest the extra space and lack of wait times is much more convenient. Also, you can sometimes find interesting meats here that you may not find elsewhere, such as a chicken with feet still attached, or local, fresh cuts that you won't find at many grocery stores. Finally, there's a certain charm that some of the employees bring that you won't find many other places. Helpful, kind and cheerful. Good stuff.

Dutchies WAS the best place to shop for all your fresh veggies and meats, however on visiting the waterloo location today i have to say that i was so disappointed to see that they eliminated their meat counter and replaced it with fridge counters to hold their meat now all in pre packaged portions. I found it hard to choose any of the sales as the signs were spread out and didnt seem to indicate whether it was a sale or regular price the packages seemed to be more expensive and you are not able to pick and choose any particular piece of meat as you could when the meat was all in the counter. I strongly believe in supporting local stores but i think i will no longer go the extra distance for my meat and will again be supporting our local grocier at central meat market.

Went there around closing time and witnessed the owner yelling at a former employee and yelling at customers right in front of the store. By the sound of it the former employee just wanted his last paycheck and the owner was being insanely rude to everyone within earshot of the incident. Couldnt believe that management would be that unprofessional in front of customers. Never stepping foot in that place again.

Absolutely love this place. Amazing prices, and the staff are always so kind and friendly. The older lady who does the samples is such a kind hearted sweet woman, my two little ones get super excited when we come here because they love the "sausage lady" as they call her. She recognizes our kids and always approaches them with a smile, and a quick chat. People like this are a huge reason for businesses succeeding and becoming popular. The little things really do count. The cashiers are always very friendly, shelves are always stocked, and even though it's a small place they keep it tidy and it has a lovely local feel to it. Never had a bad experience here and we shop here at least 3 times a week for fresh vegetables and fruit, keep doing what you guys are doing because many people would prefer to shop here then to be just another number in a big grocery chain.

Fruits and vegetables are not fresh. Berries have mold the day you buy them or the next. Broccoli has tiny bugs in the flowers and won't be able to wash off. Mangoes go black the next day. Be especially aware when you check out and they ask if you want to buy random items even though it still looks ok.

The vegetables are always fresh and though they can seem expensive the super low prices of the meats more than compensates. I have yet to buy something taxable. Prices are usually good here. Chicken breasts are huge and mostly water chilled. Quality is better at other stores. Check the berries and fruit before you buy them--I've had problems before with two many rotten ones. Best deals are Saturday evening around 9:45 pm. They start discounting product because they are not open on Sunday and want to get rid of it.

I would not reccomend Dutchies if you are in a hurry. I was there this evening and waited 20 minutes in line to get some schnitzel and some steak. After waiting 20 minutes they told me I had to take a number. I couldn't believe it. Even the lady who was in line before me lost it. You would think they would have let you know a head of time. I found the store messy , very unorganized, very tight spaces and long line ups to the checkouts. I guess you call that under staffed. I mentioned this issue to a store employee who just starred at me and walked away. I guess that says it all

This is a great grocery store for meats and fresh produce with a small albeit good quality selection of goodies. I like the free samples they offer and it's also nice knowing that it's a local chain. Check out their Facebook page for daily specials. I'm giving it a 4/5 because you can't get everything you need, they don't have any canned goods or groceries like flour and sugar. However I do recommend this place for their cheap meat and produce!

K : Fruit is cheap because it near to turning. So you can either use it asap or waste your money. Sausages are alright. But have been mislabeled and got some weird flavor when getting chicken they taste like Apple cinnamon. So I imagine they don't clean the machine when switching from pork to chicken. Meat is ok. My wife bought red cabbage on April 19 th to make it as side dish for roasted duck . When she started to cut it for cooking she said it smells like gasoline. So next day we went to different store to get good red cabbage. I went back to Dutchies to tell them about problem with red cabbage and asked for refund with presenting receipt as proof of purchase. It was on April 25 and cashier gave me some excuses about their policy. It didn't happen first time with quality of their product. It's not about money. They're loosing custumer who is not satisfied with guality of their products. It was my last visit there, never again.

I called a few hours later of course nobody is answering the phone. I email again asking for my order and they claim they don’t have it. Kitchener store. She 'forgot' to change the price from steak to bacon on the scale so found out at home I paid steak price for bacon. Went back days later and was told this happened to others who posted this "practice?" on social media so this was more widespread than I thought. She didn't miss a beat in promoting other products to me!!!??? Purchased some vanilla custard cake - last 2 pieces on the tray were reduced in price. MAYBE because got home and found out the custard was rancid - both pieces in compost where they belonged instead of being sold to me. I don't trust this store anymore.

Decent selection of fruits and veggies. Can usually get most berries and bananas for cheaper compared to chain grocery stores. However they seem to be understaffed and inexperienced up-front though with only one person at register and another bouncing around between stocking and cash. I noticed they also weren't sanitizing shopping carts inbetween uses. While waiting for the cashier after we were short-changed (thanks mom for noticing we were short $1.10 in change), I noticed the other frontend staff member pushing the cart I had just used and set aside along with a couple other carts back towards the cart pickup area without wiping or sanitizing prior to returning the carts for customer use. After handling the cart she went directly to help other customers waiting in line to checkout. The lack of sanitizing and hand washing in-between was concerning to see, especially since we're amidst the second wave in Waterloo region. Either have a designated employee watching over the cart area (which is already too close to the cashiers for social distancing purposes) or create a spot outside with clearer directions for customers to leave used carts aside or away from clean carts.

I can't give a recent experience. I haven't been in a couple years. I haven't been back because although their produce was cheap, I found the quality of it to be underwhelming.

The treatment I got at this store today forces me to write this review. My husband and I have regularly been shopping in this shop, 3-4 times a week. Tonight we dropped by and got $16 worth of things. A pineapple, $1.42 worth of bacon. And some milk and mushrooms. We paid. And the cashier offers us a plastic bag, but I politely refused. She said "the bag is free" and I kindly declined saying that " the environment is not free" - with a smile. We walked to our car holding the pineapple, the milk, the small package of 4 slices of bacon and the mushrooms. As we are putting the stuff in our car, a woman follows us and asks for the receipt. Which I had thrown inside the trunk, without noticing. I could not find it. My husband walked back with her and the cashier told her "they paid." I have never been accused of shoplifting. EVER. Being followed after when we went to the car simply because we opted for no bag felt humiliating. The fact that the woman from the store did not ask the cashier to check if we indeed paid before accusing us felt unacceptable. Still, mistakes happen. Now here is the part that got me mad: after we proved that we did in fact pay there was absolutely no apology in the end. To this point I was furious. Upon going home, I found the receipt and we drove back, so that I can show it and tell them that next time they want to accuse someone of shoplifting, ie stealing, ie of a crime, they should first ask the cashier and check with them. And if they do make the mistake, at least apologize. Which they did not do. This is what went down after I returned to the store: I went in, by the way in my full pregnancy, to ask why did they not check with their cashier. I walk straight to the woman who accused me of shoplifting. She called the owner of the store and then she apologized to me. Now comes the reason for this review: I could not give the owner of this store a more negative review. He was unacceptable. The owner shut her down (hushing her in front of me) and flat out told me me there is a lot of theft on a Saturday night, and then he was trying to strong arm me by saying I should not be complaining and I should keep my voice down (we were at the back of the store, empty at this point, I was shaking, not yelling, and I told him that in those very words). It would have cost him nothing to apologize, like the woman who followed us to the parking lot eventually did upon our return. She understood it was insulting, that she really distressed me and she was apologizing as he was trying to shut her down. Now I find it overall very problematic that the reason they accused us of shoplifting was because we did not opt for the plastic bag. This is what the owner said, it was because we did not opt for the plastic bag and people steal at his store. I could not believe it. But mostly, I cannot believe the nerve of an owner of an establishment that insists in accusing a paying customer, a very visibly pregnant woman of not having paid without ever checking with their employees (the cashier would have told them we paid). If he thinks the safety measures in his store are not good, or if there is "a lot of theft on a Saturday night" he can hire more people to supervise the exit or the area around the cashiers. There are obligations that come with owning a store that go together with the owner's right to his property. Obligations not to accuse customers of shoplifting without clear indications (other than the lacking of a plastic bag!). Obligations to take up the costs and better protect your property if you think is needed. Obligations to be environmentally friendly or at least not insult your customers for being so. Obligations to apologize when wrongfully distressing your customers. Shifting those obligations to your customers will simply get you such bad reviews. Now there is also the need to be polite. This is not an obligation - it is just civility.

Great deals on produce. I love how they sell fruit/vegetables that are "ugly" and "about to go bad". The produce may not last as long as something you get from Loblaws or Sobeys, but it lasts enough to feed me for the week!

Some produce is good but have to look carefully at it and watch when buying apples they feel some they aren't fresh and bruised. Some produce I can get other places cheaper thou. Watch when you walk in door they like to advertise what they are selling cheap but reason why is its expired I found that with cheese slices they were selling for $5.00 but they were expired 4 days ago so I put them back, same with others after noticing that. Should have been $1-$2. Just watch the expired dairy and look at produce carefully. I have bought the meat not bad but thin slices for pork chops and steak.

It is now average without the meat counter. Good deals on nearly expired produce and some of the meats. Quality is quite high on their fresh stuff which is great. I just don't think I'll come here now that the meat counter is gone, that was what set this place apart from any other grocery store.

Competitive prices however their fruit contained bugs that infested our house for 4 months. Not worth the savings. The bugs were larger than a regular fruit fly and smaller than a fly. Reached out to store and sent pics, they did apologize but that didn't get rid of all of the bugs! AVOID FRUIT!
