I don't know why the lovely girl behind the counter could only serve me a half veal, half chicken sandwich, but I was unexpectedly disappointed at the somewhat large price I paid for something that was half of what I really wanted,, and even more disappointed in the lack of that exquisite Italian veal sandwich taste I expected. Next time may be better but the pricing may keep me away.

Right around the corner from me, I shop here all the time. Pre-COVID, I loved the hot table and sandwiches. These days I buy my meat, dog bones and parmesan cheese (they grate it for me) here. Sometimes there's a sweet treat I can't resist up at the counter too.

Fantastic home made comfort food at great prices. It's a hybrid store that is part deli / butcher, part corner store, part cafeteria with cold sandwiches and hot food. Ethnic Portuguese foods in the variety store section. Friendly helpful owners and staff. Go on a Thursday to try the dry ribs. This place is a local institution.

This place is amazing. The ambience is great! they have an inhouse butcher shop which has great prices and explains any question you might have. The deli sandwich here is the best and im def adding this place into my list of regular places to get food. The prices are great and reasonable! I recommend the mixed sandwich and bifana. they are delicious! I got 3 sandwiches, 1 pasta with chicken and a coffee tin for $27

Love this place. Food is excellent and staff is cordial. Price is a little bit steep but for the things they offer I am happy to pay for it. Have in mind that this is a Portuguese market and I am Brazilian so I am biased. If you go by car, make sure you're go during non rush hour since there are not many parking spots nearby.

I had a meatball sandwich here today wich was to die for!! With homemade fresh tomatoes sauce and huge meatballs seasoned to perfection, it satisfied my appetite without breaking my bank! None of the staff, including food handlers, were wearing masks or gloves while I was there. In fact, most of the patrons when I was there weren’t either, and no one was policing this. Duarte’s is well known for its deli sandwiches, but there are plenty of other similar places in Hamilton that genuinely take COVID-19 safety seriously.

At Duartes you can get a side of pasta and a veal parmigiano sandwich for 6 dollars, and the portion is huge. The food is home cooked affair. Veal, chicken, pasta, perogies, pork. They also have cheap cold sandwiches as well. The meatball sub is amazing. On Wednesdays and Fridays they have fish, and their fish on a bun is fantastic. Family run, and the people are nice and the clientele are friendly. A diamond in the rough in downtown Hamilton. An institution.

I finally made my way to Duarte's for lunch. Ordered the meatball sub. It was nothing fancy but the taste/flavor was fantastic and old school. The bun so fresh and soft. I was not disappointed in the slightest. And the price was great. Cant wait to try others meals on the menu. This will be my go to when in the hood.

I went here for lunch on the recommendation of a local resident. I found friendly helpful staff at both the meat counter and at the hot food / sandwich counter. I had a meatball sandwich and it was very good, a little dryer than the Italian style I am used to. The other sandwiches looked really good too with generous toppings and the prices seem low compared to other places. This is a busy place at lunch but service is fast. Worth going back to!

I found out about this place 20 years ago, back when it was a closely-guarded secret; before there was a separate dining area, and you walked to the butcher counter at the back of the store and simply said, "Could I have a sandwich, please?". You'd get 5 kinds of meat, three kinds of cheese, lettuce, tomato, mustard and mayo on a huge hoagie, and back then it was 2 bucks, no tax. Then The Spec did a story on it and the secret was out. It is STILL a fantastic place to eat. The sandwiches are a little more expensive now, but so is everything else in the world, and they are still AWESOME. .

One of the best if not THE best sandwich and convenience shop in the city. I've only been once so far and got a Montreal smoked meat sandwich, but I've heard from many it's the go to 'hole in the wall' of Hamilton.
