REVIEWS OF Finest At Sea IN Esquimalt

Stopped by for a quick bite while biking by. The food truck is nicely situated and had seating by the street. I had the salmon sandwich on a bun. It was good but small. I should have added some chips or something. Missing something to round it out. Missing salt. Pickle and onion added some crunch. Didn’t like seeing the cooks working on the food they are preparing all maskless. This is not the norm in places I’ve been lately. Maybe due to heat but I expect this at a minimum. Tourist level pricing for the portion size but given the location that is to be expected. Having free water jug and paper cups is nice but some just walking by we’re helping themselves and too much cross contamination for my comfort level.

Jeaque Bariuan

Love the seafood freshness. My favorite is panko oyster, halibut tacos and burger! And enjoying the casual environment on a patio experience! Always love to come back ????

Emma D.

Wanna try different things on the menu but always got the octopus tacos. Other fish tacos are also excellent. Tried Oyster burger today and didn’t regret it. Best oyster burger I have ever had. Everything here is so fresh and delicious

Ryan Chan

Wow. Get there quick, they sell out fast.

Claire W

Best fish and chips in Victoria! Large portions and I particularly enjoy their halibut. Delicious for a picnic.

Michael Smith

Fresh stock and very friendly staff. Made my purchases easy. Even cleaned my crab !

Wassam Z

Awesome food at decent prices. Served pretty quickly as well.

Anton Van Rooyen

I had my very first Cod fish burger and was hooked after the first bite!! This is a must if you wish to have any seafood fresh from the sea as a meal. I love this place and would suggest anybody to try it out for themselves.

Gay Valerie Nejedly

Nice and crispy fish batter and fries!

Michael Rensing

Really fresh, good takeout seafood. Halibut, salmon, cod, oyster burgers and tacos. Fish and chips.

Fiona Knight

Wonderful Halibut and chips!

Teressa Kathleen

Halibut was outstanding. Grampa loved the BC Kettle fries and I loved the tarter sauce. Large portions. Would like a bit more flavour in yh coleslaw. We will be back!!!

Angela Feldstein

Really great experience here! We had fried oysters and the halibut burger.. Fresh, perfectly cooked food. Well worth waiting for. We also picked up some fresh halibut to take home and it was absolutely perfect. Love seeing what vessel it was caught on, by what method, and whereabouts. Will definitely be back!

compuPUnk

Best fresh fish on the southern island! They also have a food truck that serves amazing fish and chips! I get all my fish from here. Not only do they have the best fish, they also tell you where it was caught, and the vessel name.

Amanda S

So delicious. Best fresh fish tacos in town.

Lulu Mackinnon

I heard this was the best place to get salmon in Victoria from a local chef so i made the trek and it was for sure worth it. Clam chowder has always been one of my favorite foods, and their new england clam chowder may be the best ive had. Jam packed with seafood, and generous chunks of salmon. The tacos were fantastic as well. A lovely portion of salmon alongside crunchy veggies and coleslaw. Great visit, will be back.

Brenda Quinn

This is a beautiful Halibut burger. I can barely type when I think about it. They have amazing fish and chips just north across the tiny park from Fisherman's Wharf! They will prepare fish for a plane voyage! They cold smoke tuna. Food Truck out front; Friendly fish store and smoker in the back.

Brent McGarty

Excellent fresh fish and seafood and there is a park across the street to enjoy it in ????. Can get busy at times but well worth the wait.

Simone Saunders

Incredible fried halibut! So fresh.

Gayle Wigmore

They have a great variety of salmon, tuna and other seafood products all locally caught and smoked. We tried the candied tuna and sablefish and they were delicious!

Karlie Hu

The service was quick and good, the taste of the food tbh I didnt feel any difference from other fish and chips places. The wait is long (20mins+-) even on a tuesday afternoon. Id say only try if you are a huge fan of fish and chips.

Shelly Carter

We stumbled across this gem when walking our dog and what a fabulous find. They have a dog friendly patio but we opted to borrow one of their picnic blankets and popped across the road to the park. I had the chowder and hubby had lingcod and chips both were v yummy and just what we needed after ferrying from Vancouver. Highly recommend this neighborhood gem.

Lucrecia E. Choto

The ambiance was welcoming and the seafood fresh.

D. James C.

Excellent selection of fresh seafood.

Kathy Erickson

We came here for the first time last week for takeout. Half of us had the one piece halibut and chips and the rest had the lingcod. The fish was moist and the batter was tasty, crispy and just the perfect thickness to enhance the flavour of the fish. Prices were very reasonable, staff were friendly and efficient - we would definitely eat here again. Highly recommend!

Edison Wong

Great food! Reason for one less star is only because they didn't sell beer.

Heng Wang (Lawrence)

Great fish and chips ???? This is my second time here. Really like this place. The fish tastes wonderful, and the side dish is also delicious, even better than some restaurants. The place is just beside fisherman's park, so you can have a walk in the neighborhood.

Grant Halcomb-Smith

My favourite fish shop in town by a long shot. Want to know the name of the boat where your wild caught salmon is from? You got it. Seasonal specialties like spot prawns? Done. Friendly and helpful staff? Check. This place rules and it's kind of surprising because it's next to Fisherman's wharf... Typically tourist areas only have garbage for Americans passing through on their cruise to Alaska, but finest at sea is top notch.

Natalia RS

Best place in town for fresh fish or shellfish! Friendly knowledgeable staff, with helpful recipe ideas! Plus if you happen to be hungry they have a food truck out front with great menu options.

Jim Baker

Great selection of seafood. Got 4 fresh crabs, cleaned, for $60. They were missing a couple of times, but tasted great!

Moogy Taktik

This is a great place for fish&chips. I really appreciate the service and the quality or the ingredients.

Javier Cob Briceño

Amazing place!! It might go unseen if you just focus on the Fisherman's wharf... But be sure to check it out. Is the best place for seafood around

Campbell Dowler

Amazing seafood selection, looking forward to my halibut! Only complaint is the small parking lot; if possible, park along the street if you can! Getting out is a bit tricky!

Morgan Davies

Seriously awesome!! Biggest Oyster Burger I've ever seen and its $8.00!! Huge portion even for a single fish/chips. Not heavily battered or deep fried. Allows you to taste the fish. Super friendly, pretty quick service and nice little seating area beside to chill out and eat.

Noel Savignano

Best place to buy fresh fishes. Family business and very good quality ????

Bradley Ollerhead

Got some Halibut Fish and chips from Finest At Sea today and it was really tasty and delicious tartar sauce with a nice blend spice seasoning to give it an extra flavor punch. Really appreciated the friendly staff great service and experience as would be expected from a top take out destination in Victoria.

Rochelle Noronha

Delicious and local! Beautiful tables outside and a whole spread for hot sauce choices! I wish I was there earlier to check out the fish market just behind. Another time!

Isaac Li

One of the best fish and chips and chowder!! Lots of seafood in the chowder and the fish is large!

BW Fritzler

These people know how to cook fish so it's not dry and tasteless. Great fish tacos, soup, and seasonal salad. Highly recommended!!

Linda Glennie

We had grilled sock-eye salmon and chips and it was so much better than any I've had in other seaside eateries or posh restaurants in Victoria. Lots of outdoor tables and if you can't get a table you can borrow a picnic blanket and sit in the park across the road. View is quite pleasant- not a full ocean vista, but you can see the Johnson street bridge.

The Chmackies

Super tasty fish and chips and tacos! Will be back to try more of the menu!

David Mills

For really fresh seafood I often go here. Fresh of the boat literally, it's a thriving operation in James Bay. With a food cart out front you can now get lunch or dinner of great seafood.

TsimshianHoroscope

Finest At Sea has the best seafood in the world! Come one, come all! I love this place! Here's some pictures I just took today. It's Christmas time at FAS????????????????

Ute Seebauer, DSHom Med

Only went into the store and frankly.... It's nice but overrated. A fish store. Apparently the only one around. Which is strange. I guess that's what makes it popular. It's tiny. Does not offer a huge variety. Mostly salmon and cod. By the looks of it, the restaurant might well be worth it. It too, seems to be the only one around. Strange !

Tomasz Jankowski

Loved the take out counter food. Hands down the best fish tacos, no repurposed fishsticks here, clearly fresh fish and cooked to order. Fish and chips was great too. Best I've had? Maybe, it's a close call with a place in Lunenburg, on the other ocean.

Val Rukhaylo

Good selection, fresh, not bad pricing. Good seafood store on the back as well. Come early, place is so good, they run out of things by 1 pm. Favorites - fresh chowder, salmon fish and chips, deep fried or grilled oyesters.

Lynn Goodacre

I tried their seared smoked salmon tacos today. Sooooo good! I will definitely get them again! Get your food to take away or sit in a lovely shady area out front with flowers and bushes. Service was quick and the food was EXCELLENT!

Tommy Nguyen

My friend took me here as a local spot he frequents. I got the fish and chips which were hot, crunchy, and delicious. Calamari was also perfectly crunchy. Prices were a bit in the high side for a platter, but the portion sizes are certainly generous and not skimpy.

Keri Harasym

Fish and chips here tasted great! The portion sizes did differ from order to order though, wasn't a huge bother to me since I have a smaller appetite but I did notice my partner had a pile of coleslaw while I had like 2 fork fulls while my sister in law got jipped on the fries and I got a mountain of those

Paul Nielsen

fantastic, amazing, beautifully fresh seafood from Canada's west coast, the best

Alex Tang

Nice fish and chips. Most important is They have Water for the customer to drink.

Naz Kharsa

Great food and very friendly staff. The tacos were fantastic, the fish was really good but lacked some seasoning. They were unfortunately sold out of the chowder and the fried pickles which I really wanted to try.

Lucas Pasqualim

A nice experience. Delicious burgers and blankets to turn lunch into a picnic.

Martin McElroy

Finest At Sea is one of the best 'chippies' in Victoria. With a plentiful supply of fish and chip shops, being one of the best is no easy accolade. The menu is limited but all of it is tasty. The halibut is always great, and the chips always hot. There can be a line up at busy times, but that's testament to just how good the food is, so it's always worth the wait. There's also a fresh fish shop as part of the business, probably why their fish is always so good!

Asmita Chakraborty

Great fish and chips. This was my second visit ; the fish and sides tasted delicious. This place is just beside the Fisherman’s wharf.

jumborulz

Two piece halibut and a bowl of seafood chowder. Very generous pieces of fish, they were so fresh and moist. Very good slaw, not soaked in dressing which I like and nice crispy chips. The seafood chowder was excellent. Very flavorful and creamy and not too rich. A definite repeat. Thank you for the great meal.

Joel A

This is not a food review, so much as it is a "what are you doing?!?" review. Went to stall and asked if they sell spot prawn that are in season right now. Told they do not and then I walked away. Please look at attached picture (giant sign of live spot prawns). They are directly out front of a fish market selling fresh spot prawns. Why not walk 2 feet back and sell them up front for consumption? They are located in the tourist area of fisherman's wharf.

Dawn Cox

Amaaaazing fish!!! I had a one piece of ling cod and chips and that fish was literally the best British style fried fish I can remember in my lifetime. Not kidding. Juicy, fresh, nice crunchy batter not too thick. And, the tarter sauce is homemade and not the “sweet” kind. Soooo good.

Lance Glenn

Ohhhh... they really are the finest...super friendly staff, plus they have cookbooks!

Jim B

It's the fish store, located up the drive way beside the take out stand, that I was after. Two commercial cooks told me it's the only place to buy fish/seafood in Victoria - they were right---best scallops I have ever purchased and not soaked before selling so no excess moisture - I cooked them that night - best I ever consumed. Fish cakes yum. Salmon jerkey snacks- just great. All they sell is seafood caught by their own boats so quality is controlled and it shows. Also sell at Moss Street Market on Saturdays, but need to show up early cause the sell out really fast

Whitney Garside

The food truck is amazing! Sockeye tacos and the chowder are delicious and the outdoor seating is perfect. The store is nice too but very pricey. Over all great establishment!

Rossano Pasquotti

Nice, simple, fresh seafood. The octopus tacos were excellent. Only suggestion would be to carry a few more hot sauces

Andie Brit

Best fish and chips! We have compared to two other popular fish and chip venues and these are really the best. Big portions that taste fresh with great flavor; seasoned well. This will be our go to stop.

Aaron Sigurgeirson

Fresh fish, good prices and friendly staff! Awesome spot. Love the picnic packs too!

Stephen Gwyn

An excellent selection of locally sourced, very fresh high quality seafood. Very knowledgeable staff. The only reason they don't get 5 stars is the knowledgeable staff are quite snooty about the locally sourced part.

Mark Johnson

Probably the BEST battered fish in town and be sure to ask for your chips EXTRA crisped... you won't be disappointed!

A ANWT

The prices are cheaper than Barb's. I find that their fries, dips and coleslaw are better tasting and the fish portions are bigger. The seafood chowder is on the thin side but it's tastier and not salty. There's nowhere to sit and eat close to the restaurant hence the 4 star rating.

Kurt Mueller

Great little neighborhood shop with tables on the side of the street. Delicious fresh seafood in a relaxed atmosphere.

Greg Pastic

Excellent selection of fresh fish and mollusks. Go early or they might just run out!

Gina Trinh

I go there almost exclusively for my seafood needs. Seasonal products and good standard fillets. Amazing sablefish, salt spring island mussels, and clams currently. Got fresh herring when available. Kind people. Their food truck is more like restaurant quality food. Octopus tacos very well done, great garnishes. Fried oysters a bit over fried and too battered. Fish burger good, fresh ingredients, brioche style bun.

Scott Carlson

While lollygaggin’ around Victoria’s Fisherman’s Warf you absolutely MUST stop into Finest at Sea for a much-longer than “quick bite.” Although seafood is served hot, fresh and quick you’ll want to linger over it’s incredible taste & quality. I’d totally rest my reputation on the Sockeye Fish & Chips! Get the overly generous two piece, eat one and take the other half home for another generous meal. It brings fish & chips to a whole ‘nother planetary level! While there check out the fish monger’s shop for the smoked mackerel and octopus salad. It rivals the famed Spanish Pulpo de Galicia for which the Northern Iberian peninsula is most famous. One patron religiously savors the chowder special on a daily basis. We missed that window of opportunity. However, we will be back as the first order of business off the Port Angeles ferry!

Erick Linwood

The fish and chips were fantastic. Will definitely be returning for more. Great food truck.

Janis Silver

Three of us went to dinner tonight, I had the spicy octopus taco, my husband had the tuna taco and our friend had lincod tacos. They were all delicious and very filling. Their French fries are SO good!! Would love to have shared photos...but we all ate too quickly!

Petrus W

Finest At Sea have their own fleet of fishing boats, so their seafood are fresh. We bought halibut, wild salmon, octopus salad and seafood chowder, all seems to be of good quality.

Marijana Komar

Fresh seafood and excellent food truck service..I will be back

Sherry Li

Wish I can share a video when all spot prawns are dancing. Decent size plus sweet and delicious taste!

Blair Banks

Always delicious. They have nice seating areas out front and on the side as well. Great fish!

Darren Findlay

I got the halibut and chips and it is The best fish and chips I have ever had in the this great land of Canada.

II I

Great informative staff who are there to help you succeed in your culinary intentions with top quality ingredients and service. You want the really good stuff, come here.

Natty Van

Probably one of the best Fish and Chips restaurant in BC and or Victoria. We went for family retreat over the summer for 5 days and we loved this restaurant so much. We ordered The Sockeye Fish and Chips , and grilled Sockeye Salmon Taco… ahhhh man…. the fresh sockeye salmon just melted in your mouth. The portions were very good ( filly) and price was reasonable . We also went across the street to FisherMan Wharf the quality of the food wasn’t great as Finest at the Sea. Very small portion and expensive. So we kept going to Finest At the Sea for lunch and dinner. I highly recommend for anyone who is visiting Victoria to dine at Finest at the Sea. ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ . Loved it.

Mike Mudrie

Whoever cooked the salmon burger was on point. Well cooked crisp on edges near raw in middle just a perfect cook, juicy burger and you can taste the freshness. Terrific job from them. I highly recommend

rhonda johnstone

Hmmm?? Expected more!? Not much fresh seafood to choose from.

Thomas Sinclair

Great little eatery to finish off your walk around the inner harbour.Great selection on the menu. Our favorite spot to refuel..

Adam

Best fish n chips in Victoria and friendliest staff.

Grant Schwartzentruber

Tasty salmon burger. It was moist and the fries were fine.

Kathen Ling

A testing out experience turned into slight disappointment. My order for two persons were totally missed! 45 minutes wait was compensated by a complimentary order for next visit, don't know when! Seafood chowder soup was reheated from frozen package lacking fresh taste. Fish and chips were palatable. Fish burger meal needed a bit work on the presentation. I would go back and check;)

Miranda Richardson

Best fresh seafood ever! Found everything we needed for last minute paella! They even has the special rice and seasoning.

Norm Shokal

Great service Great food and the best seafood in town a must try

Holman Louis

Our first visit to Finest at Sea. Good fish and chips at very reasonable prices. Quick and easy order and pickup process.

Michelle Grewal

Today while the cook was putting our food in the takeout container, not once, but twice, he took his mask off and ate some of it. Not only is this normally gross, but there's a global pandemic going on! Highly unimpressed and will not be returning

Jeannie Ward

Visited the seafood food truck. Fish and chips are awesome, some of the best I have ever had. Batter is crispy and light. Two piece fish and chips is almost impossible to finish. Two large pieces of battered fish with freshly made fries. Cole slaw is unremarkable. Otherwise food is awesome. Tried the deep fried dill pickles. If you like dill pickles, this is a MUST. Fish dinners come with either one or two pieces of salmon, halibut or cod. Halibut sells out quickly but cod is light and moist. Have had it twice and will get again. Want to try their chowder as well. Prices are very reasonable for the amount of food. Line ups are long for supper so be prepared to wait for your order. But believe me, it's well worth the wait. They have a few tables out front. Dallas Road waterfront is only a couple blocks away and enjoyed lunch there while watching the water, waves and birds. All in all, food is well worth it.

David J Silver

Great seafood but don’t try to order anything from their “restaurant” by phone, Plan to stand in the rain/cold to order and pick it up. Location has very limited parking.

Joanell Storm

Been twice for lunch, both times chowder was sold out. But that's OK! Because the octopus tacos more than made up for it. I only give 4 stars because we keep missing the chowder. Tasty, simple, yummy. As for the fish market, oysters were lovely and fresh but we got shorted by 6.

Harvey Koffman

Very tasty fish and chips, reasonably priced with friendly service. Outside tables and a park make for a nice setting.

Joel Reboh

I'm fine with 12 yr olds taking my order but this kid was not trained. I had to give my order 5 times. Did not receive the proper order... was told there was no tartar sauce left. When I headed to the garbage after eating, I noticed tartar sauce in the back kitchen window. I pointed to it and told the kid that was tartar sauce and he said he didn't know. I opened up a box I was about to throw out and asked him to squeeze some in a morsel of left over fish. It was good sauce... I don't usually leave bad reviews but I was looking forward to this after a ten hour drive and spicy mayo just didn't give me the fix that tartar sauce would have.

Rio C

Some of the best Fish & Chips in Victoria. Expensive though.

Brent Klassen

Excellent recommend it for sure, chowder you don't want to miss

Eric Andersen

My brother ordered oysters with his meals and was told as he was picking up his order that they had sold out of oysters. Didn't offer a refund for product not received only a meal voucher of equal value to what he already paid for. I got the last order of oysters and he was not missing anything they were bland and over cooked. On the bright side my mothers fish and chips were good (cod) and girl friends cod tacos were also good so I was told.

Erin Harris

Tried to enjoy a halibut and fish meal on a nice sunny day. Sadly, the staff were too busy eating, not washing their hands, and moving their mask up and down to make my food in a way that makes me feel I can trust the cleanliness of the workers. I spoke to the manager/owner and forgot to mention - when I asked your employees why they had their mask under their chin, the girl with blonde hair shot me a nasty look. I didn't order my fish with a side of attitude. To quote the owner - your "optics" are bad...
