To many workers and their huge carts taking up nearly 2 entire isles , they never should have to gotten rid of the double child carts it makes it so hard with parents with more then one kid. When super busy they don't open enough tills people were going into isles and there was only 2 tills open plus the items 1-8 horrible but hey they always have great sales so that's the only reason for 2 stars.

This is by no means the best location for food basic in Kitchener Waterloo! This store, I find to be dirty and dull and very messy!!The product sections always looks like garbage! And don’t get me started on the meat department...VERY SAD!!! My wife and I do our best to avoid this store when we want to goto Food Basics, heck we will drive all the way cross town to the other Food Basics other store even if we driving pass this store or if this store is closure!! If you even want to rate the cashiers many of them are rude! There is only one nice cashiers in the store and her name is Patricia and usually works during the weeks and she been at the store for years!!She would be the only plus if any to this store, if there was one!!

Called them to see if they offered a store shopper service and they don’t. They also didn’t give any indication that they ever will. That left me a bit disappointed. Small location but decently stocked. Would prefer more international food selections similar to the South end location (Clair Rd), but arguably space is limited. Good produce. Very polite staff. Gets packed quickly and with covid, shoppers are not conscious of others' space and keeping distance/following arrows or people flow. Essentially, leave time for yourself as you'll be waiting for people to stop blocking the aisles and giving you space to get through safely. This is incredibly frustrating but not a fault of the store. May consider a lower customer capacity for the size, however.

They are back to pre-covid business as usual. Done cleaning register areas, done with social distancing, etc. No cleaning supplies provided for customers to sanitize their cart (and certainly no staff doing the task). No masks on any staff. Multiple customers' items simultaneously on the register belt (both ahead of and after the cash/transaction point). One cashier even called out to customers to tell them to stop lining up because they're not doing that anymore, and just pick a register.

As a weekly shopper at Food Basics in Chatham Ontario I find their weekly specials and variety of products good for our budget and grocery needs. They carry quite a wide range of products at fairly competitive prices. After my Friday shopping, I arrived home and began putting away the groceries when I realized that one of the items I purchased was missing. We checked the trunk of the car without finding it. I reluctantly called the store and explained ...thinking we may have left it when packing the groceries? The customer service person told me to bring in my receipt and they would make sure we were looked after. That was a surprise as We thought it would be our loss...???? This will certainly be a factor in us continuing to be regular shoppers at Food Basics. ☺

Everything I got was on sale!! In this store, there are a lot of very good deals and the prices of the items are pretty good. They have a good meat selection and good seafood. The staff that work there are all very nice all the time and make my shopping trip excellent. The eggs are just exquisite and are perfectly packaged. They have a fine selection of many everyday condiments including ketchup, mustard and relish. As well as many flavours of pickles from dill to sweet. They also sell a wide variety of toilet paper. This is just my opinion but trust me in saying that this place is amazing. ????

I worked there for 3-4 months, and honestly it was the worst time of my life. Worked less than 5 hours a week, awful pay (I was literally getting maybe 20$ a week), and I was treated rude and unfairly. Bosses and supervisors are mean, And they're not very cleanly. I am new at sault ste. Marie. My house is at pine Street. The food basics is near to this. The very huge parking space is available. Very nice staff. The all things are at very reasonable prices. For a new store it's not that kept up with. I will definitely NOT be going back here. Their meat department is never cleaned, there is always blood all over the cooler where they keep the meats. Check the experation dates on meat before purchasing most of the time it's "next day", either they don't care or they don't rotate their product. Either way it's nasty!! Everytime I have bought bread I get it home and it's moldy on the inside breads. I have given them multiple chances but they keep wasting my time and money.

It's a decent grocery store with decent parking, although the parking lot is often crowded around the entrance doors with cars/taxi's dropping people off. The checkout lines are usually long when I go there and they are not marked that well. The lines extend into the aisle ways which is not always obvious for people looking to see where they are to line up, sometimes resulting with them budding into line without knowing. Simple signage would solve this issue.

This place is amazing. Well operated and has a very well stocked international isle with real international foods like grace products. Oh yeah. And for you Caribbean folk out their Food Basics has legit Water Crackers. The bubbly kind not the westernized kind. They have the flattened westernized ones too but we all know they not the same. ;) I shop at this store very often for my jamaican friends. Never had a problem here once.

The produce at this location is hit-or-miss. It's reasonably priced, but sometimes your berries are not rotated. I brought home pints with moldy raspberries buried on the bottom. And its vegetarian "meats" selection is limited. Otherwise, it's Food Basics. Their prices for prepackaged foods are low, and they offer a good selection of common ethnic foods and meat products. (I've seen a Newfie delicacy called beef in brine here).

It's called Food Basics for a reason, and it is definitely a God send for decently priced fruit and vegetables, canned goods, as well as basic supplies. Lots of unusual products, and good weekly sales. Doesn't try to be fancy ... Can't say that I like their fresh meats, but I have no trouble filling my cart with everything else.

We had to pick up a few things after a meeting amd it was around 9:30pm. Not too mamy people but only 1 cashier. She was quick so we were through in a short time. My only complaint is that their gluten free section was a tiny section of a shelf. So small that I looked for it in the aisle going back and forth a couple of times, even after I asked where it was. Many other grocery stores have much more and for someone who needs to eat gluten free products, I was disappointed. I used to shop at food basics all the time before I was diagnosed to have a sensitivity to gluten (as many people are these days) but had to go to another grocery store because food basics did not have much...It has been many years since I shopped there, but since many other stores have added the gluten free products to their inventory, I thought they must have too and they were on the way home. Luckily most of what we needed were in the produce section, we did get most of what we needed but I will be going to another store today to get my gluten free stuff I needed..I think that food basics should get with the times. Many people are sensitive to gluten these days whether they know it or not and those that don't know it yet will eventually find out and they will be going to the grocery stores that have the gluten free products.

I would give ZERO stars to management if I could. There were about 45 to 50 people lined up to get checked out. They had 2 cashiers on. One was the Express lane. They were also responsible for the lottery counter. There was one cashier monitoring the chaos in the self check out section. Poor employees were stressed to the max. They kept their composure which I admire but it was very unfair for them to be overloaded. Manager could have went on a cash but did not. Very poor customer service on management's part. Hats off to the 3 cashier's that held it together in the rush.... they deserve 5 stars.

I guess I should've known this, but product placement is a factor, and I bought what I thought was real parmesan cheese from an area that appeared to be real parmesan. I got home from the store and realized that I had purchased a grated cheese product, which was in the same area. I returned to the store thinking I could return it. Upon arrival at a customer service/ checkout , waited in line and was told to go do any other shopping, and return with my purchases and they would indeed return the take cheese. I grabbed a pre-roasted chicken, and some peppers to make sure I went beyond the original amount, so I could pay the difference. After ringing in the new purchases, I was informed that the manager had informed the employee that because of Covid, a return was not possible. I should've been informed before she started ringing in the new sale items.

review date: march 13, 2018 i've been shopping here for 10+years. be careful on wednesdays bcuz the sale items and promos currently in motion, are getting flipped over on thursdays for the next set of deals, so double check your flyers and your shopping list b4 going in to shop! overall this is a basic store. they supply the essentials. nothing flashy here. so i can't give them a 5-star bcuz the selection is not fortinos. the inside is clean, and to be quite honest i love the late 70's-early 80's decor, it gives a sense of nostalgia, about how things used to look 30-40 years ago. it's unfortunate bcuz at barton/mary they have so many honest working staff that take pride in their job. most of the cashiers are polite, friendly and on the ball. also, especially in the produce section, they do their best to keep product displays clean and tidy. many of these ppl deserve to be f/t with a steady, predictable schedule making $20+/hr as opposed to p/t min. wage.

It's the grocery store to shop at when you need to stock up on the staples. You can't beat the price of bread, eggs, milk and canned goods. You need to be careful when buying meat and produce. There is no in store butcher so the meat is always prepacked. I'm not saying it's bad, just sometimes not the best quality meat. Overall there are lots of good values, but you might not find everything on your shopping list. We still prefer to look at all of the flyers and go to several stores to get our families favorite items. We always stop in Food Basics to stock up every couple of weeks.

We went to Zerhs to get some turkey time bread for stuffing the turkey. Which was the only place in past yrs that i could find it. We went through 5 workers before i found out there was none. It was a zoo in there. As we had wandered around and checked the prices we were in disbelief at the prices. We then went to Food Basics and as we walked in there was the bread. I was so relieved. It was busy but not wall to wall people walking at a snails pace. There was a steady flow of people walking in and walking out. I always shop there. And our experience at Zerhs just confirmed our loyalty. If you are looking for Turkey time bread -- Food Basics has it.

Has the usual food supplies. The international sections are quite interesting to visit even if your not getting items there, but you might after seeing the items. The aisles with the staples have all sorts but not necessarily the same fill selection as some other stores. I've found that sometimes an item appears where you don't expect it and then you find it in two different sections of the store! Late day shoppers sometimes get a treat on some items. Generous parking is available. SoBi bicycle stations are north and south-east of the store. HSR stops at the street in front. Bike racks are also provided. Prefilled bottled propane for BBQ is available, as is charcoal. Good variety of bottled waters, in case sizes also. They tend to stock what folks ask for and if it sells they keep it going.
