Store compares to Zehrs as far as selections , lots of choices for cheese and meats and deli options, layout is good and they move you through the cashier's pretty quickly I haven't had to wait in line outside yet and the checkout line up is never too long a wait

I tried calling to see if the had a certain product, it rang several times, then someone picked up, transferred me to the department I wanted it rang and rang and rang then cut off and I had to start all over again, so I hung up went to the store, found someone who worked in the department I wanted, she ignored me for several moments finally acknowledged me asked me what I wanted and then told me "over that way." The cashier on the other hand was super nice.

Happy Thanks Giving! I bought two chickens from the Metro Barrie for the Thanks Giving Dinner instead of turkey yesterday! The chickens had no taste AT ALL!!! Alas, I normally smell the aroma of chicken while I am roasting already!!!! This time, I was wondering the chicken had no aroma - It had no aroma and Blah!! Oh, embarrassing moment: My family and guests were eating.... nobody said: "good;" "yummy," "U~ m~"... these are the normal compliments from my family and guests when I host. Oh ~ ~ I remember now, yes, I also bought other meat at metro in the past: Steaks - tough and no taste, pork chops- no taste... whatever I buy - the meat had no taste... and tough! The sad thing is, you imagine you are eating the meat, a piece of an expensive steak, and without thinking: "you're enjoying the meat", without tasting the meat. I don't know - am I alone here? They lost me as a customer. I was and am still furious! The trip to them is no beneficial for me; wasting gas, time...plus - eating meat without a taste of meat! I am still upset and disappointed after the guests left last night...

All the staff are fine and great but the company policy to keep live lobster (in a small tank packed together) is a disgrace. Wonder how the policy was changed if we forced the owners to stay in a small enclosed water filled tank with their board?

They did install several self-checkouts, but could use more cashiers at most times of the day. Other than that, nice place to shop for groceries.

Moved from Northwest Ontario. Compared to Safeway, far fewer Air Miles are offered as an incentive to buy groceries there, so we rarely go. With Safeway we collected over 700 Air Miles every quarter. Also, prices are slightly more expensive than Safeway and Safeway was more expensive than others to begin with.

Nice selection of food, good hours and friendly staff, plus they have a few craft beers in stock. I only give 3 stars because more than once I've gotten food that was past the date on the shelf or bad. Was about to make a stir fry and realized the oyster sauce I got that day was past due by months, and on another occasion the Selections 10% cream I had bought that day was all seperated and flakey as if it has been frozen before hand. I still go here in a pinch or for some good cheese, but make sure to check all dates.

Ouch! Saw a self check out female employee accusing a small girl (helping her Mom) of stealing as she was having difficulty scanning an item. The nervous girl was following instructions from the scanner and you terrified her. Learn how to be more discrete, especially before blabbing out loud the word "stealing", Looks like you've a few less customers as a result. Otherwise it was a pleasant shopping experience. Good deli section. Very helpful lady helped choose a nice wedge of hard cheese. Better pices and selection than Costco.

Really friendly staff and their pizza is delicious. They also have an amazing kombucha section and cheese section. The best deals I've ever gotten on high quality cheese have been here and my husbandis in love with their blue cheese section even though I'm not so in love with the smell. There is a brand (I think it's the store brand I never payed close attention)of peri peri mussels that you can only find here. They are super easy to make and you boil in the bag that are just the best on a cold day. The mussels come in a wide variety of sauces and reasonably price for a large bowl for one or two starter size bowls for two.

She said “let’s do this” because he hadn’t put his items down yet and then he put his items on the conveyor belt and she groaned that she had to bring them towards her (he didn’t wanna go too close trying to be considerate to her health with covid going around) and then he asked how she was doing today and she didn’t even answer and just gave him a dirty look and then started dropping his milks into the bags so hard that we ended up checking them thinking they probably busted open. Then just rudely told him the total and said for her to have a nice day but nothing again...

I never to go because they seemed a bit expensive however started going recently for great produce and interesting meal choices in the meat department. Tried sausage stuffed mushrooms and there were delicious. Had chicken there that I took home and breaded for chicken parm. They were great and I didn't have to prepare them myself!

Great selection in the meat department and produce is always fresh. It seems understaffed in the mornings (8 to 10am) as there is usually a long line and it takes quite a while to get someone to help out at cash. There's a guy that who I assume is the manager. He is friendly, helpful and always seems pleasant. The rest of the staff seem miserable and is hit or miss with even being greeted by the cashier. That staff side needs improvement. I would probably do self checkout if that option were available at this store just because of staffing.

Way over priced on almost everything. Seemed liked a lot of stuff was on sale to bring things somewhat in line with other retailers. Not sure why anyone would shop at Metro when you can get the same goods cheaper anywhere else. Bought gluten free mushroom soup for a recipe, it was $6.99 for a small container, in sale for $4,99 for the same size as a can of Campbell's soup which is unfortunately not GF for less than a third of the price.

I despise waiting in lines but the self checkout area is too small for people with shopping carts. And the machines are annoying when you need to re arrange stuff to fit in the area and then you have to wait for an employee anyways. I wish they got rid of it and just staffed all the checkout lanes but that would involve employing humans so I guess the corporate overlords were like F that, make them struggle and do it themselves. I recommend everyone just steal a couple items every time you self checkout as a payment for doing the cashier job yourself

Avoid online orders. I placed my order online and when I went to pick them up, no bodies answered the call. After waiting over 15 minutes, we called directly to the store and someone picked up. When we checked, most of the items were wrong selection and some of them were incorrect in quantity. The return process was not as easy as it should be. When I try to purchase stuff myself inside the store, all if the items were exist despite the facts that staff was saying the items were not exist.

She is so rude, makes uneducated comments about people with disabilities, not understanding that a lot of disabilities are not visual. The warn food here is sub-par here, and prices are higher than some of the higher end chain grocery stores. The younger staff are always nice and will be helpful, although a lot of the older cashiers have decided to forget about proper customer service and barely greet their customers.

We were sold expired meat here twice, most recently yesterday. The sticker says the expiration is 4 days away. Called and spoke to the manager, no apologies, just said bring the ribs back and we'll give you new ribs. We could have gotten really sick. The last time it was chicken wings.

I bought a fruit carousel that smelled rank and was expired and brought it back to the store for a refund less than 24 hours of purchase and management said, "you bought it, deal with it." There is literally Metros slogan in huge lettering on the wall saying "Metro Food at its best." I think they need to change it to match their management style, "Metro Food, Deal with it." I hope $13.99 was worth losing an entire households business for good, not a good business practice if you ask me.....or anyone for that matter. You think it's okay to sell people who are out of work struggling with money expired food and have "deal with it" as an appropriate response? I hope you're proud Jeremy (manager) keep up the good work buddy, you'll be flourishing in repeat business if you keep that up. Where do you find these people to hire? Metro upper management needs to poke their heads in the stores once and a while to maintain good business practice and stop making people like me do your job for you through reviews. It's just lazy ????

I shop at My Metro Location in Barrie Ontario at least twice a week. I always buy tickets/papers at the customer service area of the store and always seem to have the same employee wait on me who is very friendly, great smile and she is always cheerful and gives you the impression that she enjoys working at metro. i finally asked her today what is your name? Her name is Linda.I think the store should have employee of the month and for December Linda I feel, should be you. Just a great person.

Not a good experience today. The girl at express this afternoon was showing more attention to a co worker rather than her customers. She left me standing there waiting. If it was business related I would have understood but it wasn't. On 08-20-2021 we went shooping at the Metro, Barrie store. We have never before had reason to complain about other then their prices but today we purchased 2 box's of Front Line Bakery muffins. As soon as we got home we looked forward to trying the strawberry ones, what a terrible dissapointment! There was nothing on the box to indicate that the muffins were not cooked, they were like raw dough! The other, Cinnamon Toast style We have not tried but in all likely hood they shall be the same. We are going to have to put them in the oven and hope that they cook some more.Very dissappointing!

Aside from the fact that this is the only grocery store within walking distance from my work, I would never want to shop here. I have only had bad experiences from the associates (except for one older lady who is always cheerful). Everyone that has rang me through at the tills or even helped me from the deli has been rude and you can tell they do not like their job. I asked a lady if she could ring me through at one of the lottery stations as I only had 2 items from the deli and I've been told from other people in the store that they are able to ring through small items like food from the deli... it was almost like I was interrupting her day when I asked, and that I was a bother to her. She had no line, and was just sorting lottery tickets however it was like she was rushing to get me out. Didn't even ask me if I wanted a bag and when I asked for one (because I was walking back with hot food) she rudely asked me to press cancel on the machine and rolled her eyes. This is totally unacceptable coming from a customer service stand point and I think the manager of this grocery store needs to have a serious talk with the employees. This is the first time I've written a public review on the store however I have actually sent in feed back on their website regarding similar issues with employees... as I can see, nothing has been done about the attitudes in this place.

Significantly overpriced for most items versus Freshco just across the street. Decent prices on some weekly meat specials but they hide the low price meat in the main meat section and put a higher priced version of the same meat in the end of aisle bin that everybody looks at for specials. I"ve kept my eye on this for over a year now and never once was the cheaper meat in the "on sale" fridge. Their answer is that the family pack size gets the lower price and they don't put family pack in the end of aisle display...why not???? Its a trick and tells you everything you need to know about what this store thinks of its customers. The higher prices on most other items in the store confirm this view that the customer is stupid and to be taken advantage of. I also agree with those who say the staff is unfriendly, especially the blondish woman who works the meat department.
