A breath of fresh air, these guys and gals are awesome! I bought a pair of trekking pants online, had them shipped in a couple days - free shipping. They were a bit too big, so I called to ask how the next size lower may fit as the online reviews I had read said they would be too small. Knowledgeable staff set me in the right direction - I should have called first. They sent me a shipping label to ship the return for free, which I did right away. A few days later I had the pair that fit - again, shipped for free. Monod went all out to treat me like a valued customer, and now they have my business for life!

You can pretty much walk into Monod's in your underwear and walk out totally outfitted for most any outdoor or alpine sport. Not saying you should, mind you... The best outdoors shop in the town of Banff. Huge selection of gear from Goretex jackets to ice screws. While most of the gear can be found online at other retailers, the ski shop in the basement is perhaps the best in the Bow Valley. Competitive pricing on backcountry skis and boots, experienced staff who can fit a boot and mount the bindings make this a one stop shop for your backcountry needs.

Ordered a 1.8L MSR Windburner Stove, but received a cheaper 1.0L model instead. I may reconsider the rating based on how promptly the store is going to resolve this mishap. Update: The store has provided a free return label, hence I bumped up my experience to two stars.Turned out they don't have the item they sold me in stock, so it may be a good idea to double-check to save yourself from frustration down the road.

Although I was unable to visit the store my online experience was exceptional. I was searching for Bog boots for my special lady friend and Monod Sports came through in a pinch. Buying clothing for women can be a challenge, but shoes can make or break a realationship even if she isn't crazy about shoes... What a great experience shopping at Monod Sports. I was searching for a pair of boots but I couldn't locate my size anywhere on the web. Came across Monod Sports. Not only did they have my size, but they were significantly cheaper than the few other retailers that sold them. When I first tried ordering them, I ran into an issue with stock information on their website, contacted the store and they sorted out the issue in about 10 minutes. Not only did my boots arrive, they arrived sooner than expected. I was pleasantly surprised to find a note in the box that was hand written and signed by Nick and Peter Monod (owners) thanking me for my business. Great added touch. I've shopped here a lot in the past 25 years. Majority of the staff don't have a clue. But the selection for Backcountry gear, skis etc. is solid. They've seemed to turn more into a tourist store over the past 5 years selling Canada goose and arcteryx mostly for clothing... it would be nice to see them get back into other brands but they supply what the tourists want.

I was looking for new ski boots since I was sliding around too much in my old boots and came across Monod's when I googled for boot fittings in Banff. Ron helped me find the perfect pair and size for my feet. The whole process took about an hour or so, starting with an assessment of my skiing type, foot shape, and finding the correct insole. Ron immediately brought out a pair of Atomic boots that fit my foot like a glove. The next day on the slopes was like a dream. Highly recommend Monod's if you're looking for new boots or skis. These guys are the real deal and take their time with each customer.

If you're looking to buy ski equipment, this is the place to do it. A very wide selection of ski and boot brands. The prices are excellent. And the staff is extremely helpful and nice! I bought some ski boots here, but after a couple days on the mountain with them realized they're a size too large (common mistake it seems). The products they sell are top quality but not cheap. However they do have good discounts at the end of seasons. I bought boots (and skis) here three years ago. When I bought them, I told the boot fitter that I felt they were too small but he assured me they were supposed to feel tight. The first time I went skiing in them, my toes on my left foot hurt so badly by noon that I had to stop skiing. I thought maybe I hadn't cut my toe nails short enough, so the next time I went skiing I made sure to cut them carefully, but again, a few hours into the day I was in agony. I took the boots in to Monod to get the left one punched out, which is extremely inconvenient given that I live in Calgary. When I told them my problem, the boot fitter asked me to show him how I put on the boots. I did, and he basically told me that I was doing it wrong by doing up the wrong buckle first (suggesting that how I put the boots on was causing my pain). He punched out the boot reluctantly but insisted that it could make the boot too big. The next time I went skiing, they were a bit more comfortable and I was able to ski the full day. But then I went skiing the following year for a two-day anniversary trip. Halfway into day 1, my toes were so sore that I couldn't even put the boot back on after I took it off. I had to stop skiing for the rest of our ski trip, and my big toe was in agony for over a week. Soon after that, the nail started turning white and breaking away from my nail bed, and few months later, I lost the nail on my big toe. I didn't want to go back to get another lecture about how I put on my boots. They are too tight, as I originally thought. My advice to boot buyers: Do NOT purchase your boots here unless you live in or near Banff. I've tried to get my boots punched out in Calgary, but I've had to wait extra long and pay for it because I didn't buy my boots at the store. I didn't expect to have to return for boot servicing or I would never have bought my boots here in the first place. Also, go with your gut. If it feels to tight, don't buy it no matter what your boot fitter says. Losing a nail was painful and I couldn't ski (or wear certain shoes) for six months. Plus I have to spend another several hundred dollars now to buy new boots!

As others have pointed out, terrible customer service... A staff member sold us a tent under the premise that if we didn't like it we could return it "not too dirty". When we went to return it, after one night and absolutely no damage, two employees ganged up to let my girlfriend know that it was used and can't be returned. The tent fly was a bit damp when we packed it up. We wouldn't have bought the tent or attempted to return it if we knew their 15 day return policy doesn't apply to slightly used things. Poor customer service, but they don't seem to care. Stick to MEC in Calgary. Don't bother with this overpriced, pretentious, small town, touristy shop.

I can't remember the last time I've received such great customer service - especially when it was exclusively via email and telephone! I dealt with Shayne who was friendly, knowledgeable, and very patient. I ordered two pairs of Hanwag hiking boots since we couldn't find a great selection near our home in Victoria. I ordered one pair for my husband and one for myself. The shipping was free (bonus!). My husband's boots fit perfectly, while mine were way too small (my own fault for not checking the size chart properly). Monods paid to ship the boots back, and sent another size up for me, free of charge. The second pair were still too small and I opted to buy some in-store where I could actually try them on. Monods immediately refunded the money for my boots without any questions asked. They also shipped both pairs of boots with a chocolate bar and a personalized card - so awesome. I will definitely recommend Monods to anyone!

However, I was in a situation which called for exceptional service, involving my purchasing of a few items by phone which could not be ordered online and could not be transported on a plane (camp stove fuel, etc.) in preparation for a backpacking trip in Banff, and which I could not pick up myself due to a late bus arrival followed by an early morning start on our hike. Rachel Bigger at Monod Sports responded to my email request in a prompt and reassuring way, and even delivered the items to the Banff Park Lodge before I arrived there, where they were held by the concierge for me, so that there would be no delay in our itinerary. Her "delivery bag" included a complimentary Banff patch and chocolate bar (which we ate on the plane ride home!). I usually don't take the time to review retail stores but I had to write one after my most recent experience at Monod Sports in Banff. I went into this store looking to buy a new technical shell for an upcoming cat- and heli-skiing trip. Upon entering this store I wasn't acknowledged or approached by one staff member to offer their assistance finding the right size, style, or brand the whole time I was in the store. Obviously these employees don't work on commission as I saw the same two employees leaning against the racks engaged in conversation when I entered the store and when I left after about 10 minutes later. WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER! Needless to say, I didn't make a purchase but will thank the staff at Monod Sports for the inattentive service because I found the perfect jacket the next day at a retailer in Revelstoke, BC.

Monod Sports was amazingly helpful as I was waiting in Banff to start my ITT Tour Divide. For several days I had no word from the airline regarding my bike they sent somewhere other than Calgary. I waited for a spot tracker that was not in Banff as planned. With my time slipping away and no real information about bike or tracker. Monod Sports was so helpful. Don ( it has been several weeks so I may have the wrong name, sorry! the Welsh guy) was super friendly, very engaged, helpful, a real source of encouragement to me. Thank you! The store has great merchandise. Can't say enough about what they meant to me. Thanks!!

I came to Monod to buy snow boots few weeks ago because it looked like a very nice store to go shopping and I must say I had a great experience.I am a picky shopper and the staff member ,a French guy was very helpful and friendly. I, recently, ordered a jacket for my son, although unsure of the correct size. Sam collected the two sizes that were being considered, and tried them on to give me a description of fit for someone his size. He, then, shipped the size that I choose and shipped it, expedited post, so it would arrive before my son left back to Asia. I have not received such amazing customer service in a long, long time. I will check Monods website, first, now when I am looking for outdoor clothing. Thank you, Sam. Your service was impressive and I want you to know it was greatly appreciated.

Ordered some ski boots online, and upon opening the box discovered a hand written thank you letter and some pretty amazing chocolate. These guys clearly value their customers. On a side note, their hours are awesome! Love that I can actually stop by the shop after a day of skiing. Hands down one of the best outdoor shops in the area!

I love Monod's! I'm from Cali and love to visit Banff each year, and stopping by Monod's to pick up some authentic Canada Goose jackets or other winter gear is always a treat.
