Seafood chowder was great, veggie burger a bit small but delicious. High quality homemade food
Went 2 nights in a row.First night was fantastic. Service was great food delicious. Second night service was not as expected, my guess is they were short staffed or novice servers. I will definitely go again.
The best food I had on the Cabot trail. Small cozy restaurant with some really nice waterfront views. Open kitchen so watch as the magic happens . The food was exquisite, the carrot cake was absolutely divine and came highly recommended by the table next to me , it did not disappoint! I was there on a Monday evening in September and it was packed with people waiting outside! Prepare your taste buds for a feast of flavours!
After a wait to get a table, this restaurant did not disappoint. The food was excellent, the server friendly and efficient and the owner made us feel welcome and important. It is located dockside, is a converted freight shed with tables surrounding the open kitchen or on the patio. Our party of four had Caesar salads, green salads and fish chowder. We all enjoyed the meal very much.
If breakfast is your favourite meal, don’t miss this spot. Wow… what a great idea it was to stop here for breakfast. The pancakes are off …
Great tasting and healthy food options. We went in for lunch on a busy summer vacation day, parking was a problem and we had to park quite far off from the restaurant, but other than that everything else was done to perfection. We ordered Clam Chowder, Salmon and Cheese Burger. Everything was made to perfection and tasted awesome. They also have desserts which are not mentioned on their menu. We Ordered the choclate, peanut butter & fudge cake, which was a combination of all of those ingredients with a cheese cake like texture, it was amazing. 5 starts for the whole experience.
One of our favourite restaurants in Baddeck. Nice cozy atmosphere in the old freight shed on the government wharf. The breakfast is the best and the coconut blueberry pancakes are a MUST try! Those alone are 5????! Friendly service as always!!
The food was good, seafood was fresh and tasty. However, the waitress was not nice and friendly. We were waiting for a longtime for the menu and we waited again for desert menu which she didn’t tell us there is no desert menu even though she knew we wanted dessert. Based on her performance, we tip her 15%. She throw the receipt on the table.
I’ve never been so happy eating pancakes in my life. If you’re on the Cabot trail coming through Baddeck, you can’t miss this place! Beautiful by the waterfront and top notch food and service.
This has an understated elegant industrial chic decor - a kind of place where jeans and ball caps are next to suits and ties and neither is out of place. My sweetheart had: lobster roll and salad (that he still raving about) I had the apricot jam, jalapeno havarti & brie grilled cheese with winter squash soup and for as much as my sweetheart scoffed when he heard me order a grilled cheese is equal to how much he apologised later for scoffing. We shared a piece of carrot cake (the chef's special recipe) our wait-staff told us with a big smile. We make two of these every day during the summer and one day during the off season.
People are not kidding about how badly managed the service is. Waited in line for over 30 min, then sat at our table and completely ignored for another 35 min. We had to get up and ask for someone to serve us. we expressed our concern about the wait and were told "not my fault and it will be another 40 minutes before any food arrives". We left and got pizza.
Stopped in after driving the Cabot trail. Place was very busy, but the service was prompt and the Seafood Linguine was very good. They have a nice variety of local craft beer on tap, and the patio and view of the lake put it over the top. Highly recommmend.
I was absolutely grateful for them being open ,everything was perfect for a great Baddeck experience, food was done perfectly, service was second to none ,.Just a great place to stop in Baddeck!!
Great place. A little tight. Be prepared to wait a little as it's popular Saturday nights (I'd encourage them to stay open a little later Saturday nights as quite a few groups were turned away or left without getting a table). I had lobster roll which was really good. My wife had the black bean burger which was quite good and tasty and our son had the burger which he loved. I had a local beer (big spruce red ale?) and ordered a second... Something I never do. Great view as well as it's right on the harbour. Beautiful atmosphere. Love the open ceiling.
Server Cheyenne made our special night even more special. Thank you Cheyenne.
Supper was amazing! Everything was cooked to perfection and very tasty and well presented! I will be back and definitely recommend this place.
Busy place and not too many tables so be prepared to wait a bit. Service was good. It is pricey but it is good food.
Space is interesting, food was good. Very small seating area, we were at the bar, able to watch the chefs cook dinners. More description is required for the menu, what I ordered was not what was expected. It was delicious, but I had no idea what the sauce over the fish was; fish was fried in an egg dip.y dining partner had a lovely burger and salad. Outdoor patio area looked lovely.
Great food. Nice staff. A bit on the pricey side.
The lobster roll and salad were delicious. Great decor and really nice staff. I went for dinner, but breakfast/lunch would be ???? on the patio at the marina facing East.
Wonderful location. Attentive staff. The gourmet grilled cheese was spot on and the nachos were well constructed. The chocolate lava cake was good but was not served hot so it was more like a chocolate ganache cake.
Awesome food, service was great, seems like a popular place lineups and to get in on the weekend. The atmosphere was great, and the patio outside is a really nice water view, great along with your food. Will definitely be coming back here next time in Baddeck.
We had lobster roll and Montreal smoked beef sandwich and both were delicious! The place is cozy with amazing staff. Will definitely go back again!
Totally robbed me with that lobster roll with tiny bits of lobster meat but overall I think this place was neat! I will go back to have that grilled cheese and pancakes.
Wow what a great find. Wandered town for a while and glad we found here. Great mussels.. great salad and even better fish. We'll be back here!!
This place was fine. The view was amazing, the pancakes were good, and the Western sandwich wasn't great. Service was slow. Super overpriced for the experience we got.
If you want to go for lunch, I'd suggest showing up on the early side. When we arrived we were seated quickly (table for 2) on the patio, with our order taken in a reasonable amount of time. Prices are a little high, but the food was good, and the view of the pier was worth it. The mussels were very good, with a simple butter sauce and scallions. Once it was time to pay, it took a while to get our bill/to wait for the machine due to the place filling up, but waiting after a meal is much more tolerable than waiting for your food. A long wait line had formed by the time we left. Also, they don't take reservations. So, early lunch is probably your best bet!
This was the best food I have ever had at a restaurant. I am still haunted by how good it was. I am not a foodie, but I have eaten at plenty of restaurants. The chowder and lobster roll was phenomenal; the chicken on the chicken ceaser was perfect; the homemade dressing on the spring salad was superb; the burger here tasted hand made; even the grilled cheese with brie was one of the best I had had. Their seafood was amazing, but so was there landfood too. Service was extremely friendly and accommodating for the whole family. With this place right on the water, you just can't go wrong. My compliments to the chef, servers, owner.
Great atmosphere. Staff was great. Food was good, however, these were the smallest mussels I have ever been served...
The owner took our order for take out, but after 40 min, we haven’t received our food. After asking for it, they told us they forgot about us and that our order was not even started. It was very disapointing and we were freezing outside. …
We had 2 nights in Baddeck and ate here both nights. Perhaps a little chaotic, but the lovely service, wonderful food and interesting local drinks make this a great place to eat. Be warned they don't take bookings so you may be faced with standing in line for 30 minutes waiting for the next table, but we found it was well worth the wait.
Everything was good until halfway through my meal, I saw a long strand of hair in my Smoked salmon bagel! I completely lost my appetite. :(
The amazing place ????☕️ We stopped with my friend for breakfast and it was incredibly delicious.
My bf and I really like the food! The “supreme grilled cheese” had me skeptical at first but i was very pleasantly surprised! The only thing was the restaurant was freezing and the waitress wasn’t the most friendly.
Had dinner there. I had the mussels and the seafood chowder. My wife had the seared scallops with the vegetables of the day. 1) Mussels were very good. Very tasty broth and cooked exactly as they should. 2) The seafood chowder was a let down. The base was very creamy and tasty but that's about all the good. The shrimp was so tiny you couldn't taste it. I assume the scallops were bay scallops but again, couldn't taste them. They should have called it fish chowder because that is all I could taste. Nothing wrong with that if that's what I ordered. But I didn't order fish chowder. I ordered Freight Shed Signature Seafood Chowder , "Creamy & light with Maritime Shellfish" . Be careful how you advertise your food. Other than the fact that the shellfish can be called Maritime in that sense of the word, there was nothing local about the shellfish in that chowder, and even if it was, you couldn't taste it because of the over powering fish taste. I am a seafood junky. I am always trying to find the best seafood chowder. This wasn't it by a long shot. 3) My wife enjoyed her seared scallop dish. 4) Had breakfast there the following morning. Beautiful morning so we ate outside. I had the Eggs Benedict . Beautifully executed. Flavor of the Hollandaise sauce was spot on and the eggs were cooked expertly, right on target. My wife enjoyed an order of ham & eggs with home fries on the side. She also enjoyed her breakfast. Overall a good experience save for what I mentioned above and this. I found that they did not follow social distancing requirements between tables. We were there Sept 29 & Oct 1, 2021.
My fish was SOLID, but my wife/son's seafood pasta and lobster roll was amazing. Highly recommended.
Excellent food paired with beautiful views. A must-go in Baddeck, the food was absolutely delicious. I had the scallops and they were super tasty!!!! The best scallops I’ve had in a while. I also tried the seafood chowder; it was creamy, flavourful & fresh. The cesars were standard, the view was not. I recommend checking out the freight shed next time you’re in Baddeck.
Great food with fresh seafood ingredients. Popular with both of local people and tourists. Expect lineup. Service and kitchen are not the fastest. You should not plan to rush if you want to try this restaurant.
Food was amazing. Staff were excellent, friendly and efficient. Location at the marina gave excellent views. Can't wait to go back!
Fantastic food!! Great service!!
Excellent location. Blustery rainy day but great to be on the dock eacting and watching the waves. Scallops are great tasting, very fresh but cost $16.00 for 4.. Other food was great and generous portions.
Excellent Lobster Roll (not drowning in mayo) and delicious seafood chowder (thin enough to actually taste the seafood). Highly recommended.
Food is good and amazing walnut salad seriously I even like the salad more than the seafood!! It's a little bit pricey but It's fine. The staffs were super busy and overwhelmed so be prepared for waiting
Every meal was Amazing!!! We went three times on our three days stay. Service excellent and so accommodating. Definitely check them out!
Situated in Baddeck next to the yacht club this eatery is housed in an old renovated government boathouse, decorated with pieces of marine history. There is indoor dining as well as an outdoor patio, with views of Baddeck lake. We ate there …
This place is a gem in-between a long trail. Except for the Nova Scotians it's tough to know about this spot. Luckily we were told about this at the information center. The restaurant was amazing, luckily we got a spot it's tough getting a …
We had grilled haddock and crab cakes. Enjoyed our meal. Seasonal vegetables . Meal was excellent. Service excellent Carrot cake too sweet icing too thick and not a cream cheese base.
I’m a chowder guy. And I’ve had chowder all over Nova Scotia. THIS chowder knocked my socks off. Both creamy and light and packed with the fillings. Salmon, halibut, mussels, and lobster to the brim!! Great experience, great service and a great view. Highly recommend
This place deserves all the appreciation in this world! Amazing amazing food amazing service and the location! It’s heaven in the form of a restaurant.
The Shed Burger and salads were delicious. The lobster roll left much to be desired (like a decent amount of lobster). The view eating outside was delightful.
Oops big mistake, extreme wait time. Our group of 6 experienced a 1 and 1/2 hour wait time between order placed and food received. Also, the groups who arrived after us, received their food orders before us; group after group. This was hard …
So good we went twice on our 3 night trip to Cape Breton. Busy on Wednesday night, could have been the sailing crowd. Friday night was less busy but still a full restaurant. Food was very good and reasonably priced.
Waited half an hour to get a seat, waited half an hour to get a waitress to acknowledge my presence. And then was told it would be at least 40 mins to get food. …
Had dinner and loved it. Sure not too cheap, but the plates are nicely presented and super tasty! The open kitchen and friendly staff does the rest. Try the halibut and/or the chowder….. yummy!
Fantastic food, service and view! We had breakfast and we’re served quickly with professional charm. Clean and trendy facilities. The Food was top notch and the view was stunning. Pet friendly patio too!You need to go here!
Have dined here a few times, expect a line up to get a table, and a bit of a wait to get your food. Restaurant is usually crowded with customers, and some tables are close together with very little room between tables. Bar also has stools at the bar which is also usually full with customers eating there as well. Lots of noise from nearby tables and open kitchen directly behind the bar. Small outdoor covered patio with small tables and chairs with views of the wharf and boats. Menu is not extensive but has several good selections for a variety of tastes. Prices are medium to high end. Service is friendly but can be slow when restaurant is busy, especially during dinner and evenings. Probably one of the few higher end restaurants in Baddeck.
Just visited this restaurant a few days ago. We waited a few minutes for a table which was expected. Once seated, the service wasn’t great. Took 5 minutes or more for a server to come with menus, they did not ask drink orders so then we waited 10 minutes after that to even order drinks. Another 10 minutes to place our food order. Little tip for the severs… always bring menus as you are seating the customer and always ask for drink orders once seated or automatically bring water. Just a few tips that would have made for a better experience. Food was okay, small menu!
Enjoyed a late afternoon meal here. Although very busy, we were seated on the patio after about a 10 min wait. Crabcakes were lightly battered, all crab meat inside and fresh tasting. The lobster roll was lightly seasoned allowing the lobster flavour, mostly claw meat, to shine through. Both were served with a lovely fresh organic mixed greens salad. Our waitress, Breagha brought the whole meal together with her efficient and attentive service!
Amazing place, very good food, absolutely magical smocked salmon bagels and chowder. The stuff was very friendly, I came with 3 kids and had a lot of fun there. Recommended to everyone to stop by
Sat outside on a beautiful October evening, restaurant gave us blankets to keep warm. Food was absolutely wonderful, service was fantastic. Hidden gem in baddeck
