This is a store that is geared to people who are stuck in their ways. They've always shopped here, so they won't go anywhere else. The prices are always higher than other grocery stores. The quality is sub-par too. Their hot food used to be good years ago, but has declined to the point of it's not even worth checking on now. The staff in the deli, sandwich, Chinese food and hot meal departments are never around. Always hiding in the back. Save your time and money and go to a different grocery store.

I've shopped here for years, and have never had an issue with anything. The staff has always been super helpful. Its not a huge store, so you can always find someone to help very quickly. The prices are not the best in town, but they are still competitive. Also located in a plaza, so you have a pharmacy, cell phone shop, dollar store, post office, pub, eye doctor, dentist, Wendys and a whole bunch of other business in the same place.

Like i was blind or something.... clearly she did not care what i was asking. So i put down other items i was planning to purchase and left. Went to a competitor. I would normally never shop at this safeway just because of the ludicrous prices but for the last year or so it's just convenient because I'm literally a minutes walk away. However, as soon as I get in the place I immediately start looking for the orange on sale tags. If they aren't on certain things I normally buy then I go without. My fave ice cream is $7 for a 1.89 ml. Walmart sells the exact same one for $4.27 and $2.99 on sale and that's just ONE example. I suppose I eat less snacks because their prices are so high so theyre kind of like calorie reducer you might say. Still though....prices are ridiculously high here.

prices are outrageous for a lot of things (unless on sale. $1.50 regular price difference to save-on, on identical yogurt!!), but their newish in-store prepped produce and salads can be surprisingly worthwhile, depending what you get; also enjoy their store-made pizzas and flatbread. oh and their donuts are the absolute best - especially cos you can get ½ dozen great donuts here for the price of a single one at some other local places....

This will be my grocery store while I live in the area. I have lived in many provinces across the country and item availability can change province to province. Thankfully this store has almost everything we have grown to want at a good price. The store is very clean, organized, the staff is friendly and prices are comparable. Lots of parking as well. Bonus, they have Atlantic Salmon in stock on a regular basis!

One of gir said just wait couple minutes hot bread coming than I wait after 5 min bread came out hot but other lady who works there she did not want to give . I love how you dont need to pay for a cart. Love the produce, and how they usually have apples from BC. Prices are a little more expensive but they bag your groceries and I appreciate the extra service. Friendly staff is always willing to show you where an item is. Pharmacy staff is helpful and knowledgeable.

This is my favourite grocery store. I know there are bigger and probably a little cheaper grocery stores but the service is great. There is always someone to ask a question instead of wondering around forever and the staff are always ready to help. That goes along way for me. Update: This is officially my grocery store in Penticton Since my last review their prices have become more competitive. Also, I couldn't find salad almonds anywhere and before I knew it I had three employees tracking them down. That is service. Oh and I love not having to bag my own groceries.

I have had 3 bad experiences with staff at this Penticton Safeway. Obviously its considered acceptable by management standards because the staff members are still there after significant time. The first time I had a younger check-out girl give me a lecture about a bag of bridge mix I picked-up from the bulk section and on that day there was no scale to be found. I got to the checkout and it was about $6 worth, so I said "no, I'll pass because its more than I wanted". Then came the lecture. The girl was probably 30-35 years old and I'm 60 plus and I'm getting a lecture about taking stuff that the store will supposedly now have to throw out. Apparently it was my fault that they had no scale for me to weigh my bridge mix a little at a time until I had my $3 worth? Of course this took place with several other customers in line listening to the rant. The second time was when I arrived at the checkout with a pineapple that was on sale for $3.99 each. I caught it real quick when it went through at $5.99. I immediately called her on it and she started defending the readout on the till as it has to be correct and I must have been wrong. Was I sure? Again this was another rude younger woman probably 40 years old. I said "no, I'm not wrong, there's a great big sign right in the middle of probably well over a 100 of them". She said "you have to show me that!" Meanwhile there are several people behind me starting to groan, so I said "no, forget it, I don't need it that bad". She insisted and away she went while myself and everyone waited for her to return. She comes marching back and says "I'm sorry but you were mistaken, there's no sign there." I again said "like I told you before, forget it." I new I was correct, but it wasn't worth the trouble. She was more intent in belittling the customer and making herself look important and of course"right." After I paid the bill, I went over and took a picture of the pineapple stand and the $3.99 sign and brought it back to show her. She in a very abrupt voice ordered me to take it up with customer service. I couldn't be bothered. The third and final straw was when I was coming into buy groceries and before I got into the store I grabbed the first buggy that was handy and found a package of processed cheese obviously left in the cart by accident by the previous customer. Now I thought about turning it in, but, decided not to (maybe right, maybe wrong) jury is still out on that one. If it was a $10 bill I definitely wouldn't turn it in LOL! Well, I tell you, it was like I just tried to rob the place with a shotgun when I turned the buggy and started back to my truck with the "stolen" cheese! I was immediately accosted by some wanna-be police detective in Safeway uniform and was accused of theft and dishonesty and everything else he could dream up! There was RCMP right there not 50 feet away and he was going to turn me in. I said "good idea, have at it". The RCMP just laughed and said "well, you've got your cheese back, right?" The RCMP looked at me and shook his head and the Safeway employee glared at me and told me that I wasn't welcome in the store again and refused me entry. I haven't been back since (and never will be) with exception to use the BMO bank machine. As far as I'm concerned, that employee stole my cheese! But whatever. I just hope a few people read this rant and relate to some time in their past when they might have been treated poorly at this Penticton Safeway and realize that they aren't alone. Sometimes rude ignorant people can make others feel bad and its their fault for the situation. Actually, these less than adequate employees have done me a huge favor because since the last problem I had with Penticton Safeway I have discovered The Real Canadian Superstore and Save-On and found the prices to be astoundingly lower. It was because of just plain simple laziness that I continued to shop Penticton Safeway for the last decade. So maybe I owe these 3 employees a thank you instead!

Amazing customer service across the board. Great incentives to shop on Customer Value Days and Blue Days/ Airmiles promotions. I adore Safeway and I am hesitant to say anything negative. However, my loyalty lives to serve the public at large. Hence since management changed a couple of years ago, there's been a noticeable decline in the quality of Safeway's produce department. That in of itself is a big fat disappointment. Coupled with the fact that their prices do not reflect their lack of ability to source and deliver mouth-watering produce is outrageous! Having said that, Safeway is still where I most often shop. Why convenience and wicked-awesome staff.

A key is now required for the washroom. My husband, who has had a stroke, had to go to service desk (at the front of store) to get someone to page a key be taken to the washroom in the rear of the store. Then walk all the way back to the rear of the store & wait. He waited for 5 mins, no one showed so he had to go to Wendy's across the parking lot. NOT A GOOD SYSTEM SAFEWAY/SOBEY'S If this keeps happening, there will be many cleanups in aisle 5. Crappy customer service.

I enjoy working here at Safeway here in Penticton BC and have worked here for 10 years now. Just now with Everyday lower prices we can really compete now with other stores in our area. Great Selection from Produce with new In-store made cut Fruit and Salads. In-store made Baked goods to China Kitchen and Deli Roasted Chickens. Plus an in-store Starbucks to get a Coffee on the go or while Shopping. Plus is the only Grocery store to offer Air Miles bonus offers. Open from 7:00AM - 11pm Everyday only Closed on Christmas. Safeway has always been my go to store. The staff and produce are amazing ... Of course there's gunna be the one odd ball once in while who upsets someonem but I've experienced that at all stores, not just Safeway... Only thing keeping me from giving them a 5 star... Is the fact they are a bit pricey compared to the rest of local stores. But I'm not affraid to pay for quality. Cheers. Hope this helped !

This is a larger Safeway store that offers many more extras of everything you're looking for. Centrally located on Main Street. Open very early to late evening hours for shopping convenience (7 a.m. to 11 p.m.). Very clean and well-placed sections/isles. Extra floral capacity for a great assortment of ready-made bouquets to build your own, with Floral specialist/counter for special requests. . Many in-store specials so a surprise with every visit. Large deli/snack area with Starbucks as well. Produce is almost always very fresh. One section off produce dedicated to Organics. Very helpful staff to answer questions or find items. In-store pharmacy. Adequate fresh seafood counter. In-store Bakery with much to choose from. ATM machine in-store. Ample parking lot. Handicapped parking in front. Fours stars because this store does not price-match. Having said that, with all the weekly specials and in-store specials, prices are very comparable to other grocery stores in the city. I highly recommend this store for all your major to minor shopping.
