I ate here 8 months ago and left a 5 star for that visit. Unfortunately they are now serving frozen fish with a stringy chewy texture. I expect to be served fresh fish in a fish and chip joint not something from a freezer.

Food is good and very generous. The restaurant was closing an hour after I got there but our Waitress was anxious about the time and halfway through my meal at 8.30 she asked me if I would like to take it to go. She was washing the floor and she never mentioned I should be careful, so when I got up to leave I almost slipped on the floor. My husband and granddaughter all held on to me and each other the floor was so wet. Inexcusable and dangerous. Our Waitress was so upright and panic stricken that we wouldn't leave by 9.00 which we did.

Best fish and chips joint around! We came for lunch on a Saturday and to our surprise we were seated immediately. The service was prompt and friendly. They serve real fresh cut French fries and real mayonnaise, and not just a little cup of it, but all the mayo you want. The portion size of halibut was just right and cooked perfectly with just the right amount of batter. I would recommend this place to everyone.

Very authentic. This is the HQ store who trained other franchise store in other area of north. Nice staff in efficient speed. Taste so good as Canadian being UK before. Highly recommended.

I ordered Uber eats from here twice with seafood platter it was amazing esp the haddock. flaky fresh delicious. Ordered the halibut the other day was thoroughly dissapointing. Had that rubbery texture when chewing. Old frozen fish perhaps? i could only eat half and throw it out. Woulda given 4 stars because everything is good except halibut, but because its called HALIBUT House it only gets 3. FYI this is my first ever review. This is how bothered i was by the Halibut lol.

Good spot for fish and chips. It can get busy Sundays and Mondays as they have a special going. Fresh fish option of fried or grilled available. Several fish options to choose from as well. Staff are nice and attentive. Batter is nice and thin but crispy. Tartare sauce is made in house, unlike their to go sachets.

Fantastic food and friendly enough staff but expensive. If price isn't an option then you won't be disappointed with you meal. Just a heads up that their go to line is "ready in 15-20min but be prepared to wait upto 45 min. When most people are coming to pick it up they could do the curtious think and be honest when food will be ready so 6 people aren't all waiting at front entrance.

Super tasty! Their prices are ok. Great fries. They have cheesecake factory too. My only gripe is that their tartar sauce is a commercial sachet (like ketchup or mustard).

Everything is really fresh absolutely not prepared from before. Fresh cut fries. Don’t miss onion rings and mushroom. Mostly the server’s recommendations are good. Ask them first...! Very nice and friendly people working there. Portions are really big and each one more than enough for one person. I would say 3 for 5 people is enough if you all aren’t starving. They also have special price for particular days each week. Really good option for sea food.

Excellent stuff. My wife and I needed a Fix of the amazing fish and the fresh cut fries. These fries are the best. The portion and the packaging for the takeout was wonderful especially with the paper wrapping. We will do it again sooner.

Yesterday we preordered during the afternoon for pickup at 6 pm. We arrived at 6 pm but nothing had been prepared and we just had to wait in line until 6.30 pm. We had 3 halibut and chips plus salads. Chips great, salad great, halibut terrible! Just a block of solid dry something, nothing like the beautiful tender fish it normally is. Our first visit, and our last.

My first dine-in after covid 19. Tried the fish and ships which I would only like fresh off the fryer. It was good but honestly giving 5 stars because of the service we got. The manager was super polite and using her customer voice with ever one ????. They have meal of the day deals to keep an eye on that but generally prices were as you would expect.

I’ve been waiting to come for dine in ever since I found this place but due to the lockdown... But today I finally made the trip to come have a try. We ordered 2 fried Halibut, they were so delicious!! The fish are fresh and the batter is light and crispy!! They are crispy outside but very soft inside that will melt in mouth instantly, and it’s totally not greasy at all (I don’t see dripping oil on my plate) The Greek salad was very fresh as well. The server was very friendly and she told us that all their ingredients are made from fresh. We also had garlic bread with cheese, very satisfying too!! We will come back again for sure!!

We went to the Halibut House after reading such wonderful reviews, and we are pretty disappointed. Ordered the breaded Halibut and fries. The fish was chewy because it was over done, and the tartar sauce was sweet and did not taste like tartar sauce at all. The coleslaw was ok, and the fries were good, but the fish being the main part of the meal (and expensive) ruined it for us. It was a very hot and humid day and the a/c was not on, which made for an uncomfortable environment as well. The service however was great, our server was very sweet. The haddock may be better, but we dont recommend the halibut or the tartar sauce, and won't be returning.

The service was great fast and friendly. We had 2 Halibut and chips with a side I'd gravy and a bread and butter. (The English in me) The fish and chips were perfect! Well cooked and exactly what you would expect for Halibut. The only problem was the bread and butter. The bread was stale. I pushed through it but if I could have I would have returned to get a fresh order. I still recommend the fish and chips.

The best Halibut House branch is this one. Frank and Garry are the best as cooking serving and customer care issues. This branch iscalso the most hygenic Halibut House I have visited. I called in and placed an order, went to the resturant 15 minutes later thinking that I could just pick it up and leave. When I got there, they started cooking my food and then afterwards forgot about my order; making me awkwardly stand around their resturant feeling like I was in everyone's way for another 35 minutes. It took 50 minutes from when I called to get my food and the fries tasted old and stale. Though, the fish was good and the helpings were generous. I hope this is an irregular occurrence but the service I recieved left a bad taste in my mouth.

An average fish and chips place. Service is great but the fish and chips is just "good". There are better places but not in the area. Good if you have a craving for it. Souvlaki is very salty and so is the rice.

I'm a regular at the Halibut House in Thornhill. I'm temporarily on a budget and they have $ 8.00 special's certain days, that are affordable, tasty and fish is a healthy food (relatively healthy, as its fried in batter, but its a good compromise). Also, I request all coleslaw - no fries to make it "more" healthy" and they grant my request always with no problammo. The service is real good and so is the environment, its clean, with big windows giving lots of sunshine and the staff is friendly - heyyyyy, whats not to like - I recommend it !!!

Nice guys working there. Most personable service had in a while. Halibut was very nice. Lots of places when you cut halibut you see two thick layers double of batter and thin sliver of fish. Here was nice to see thick fish and not over battered.

This newly opened fish and chip shop is very busy! When my dad and I went last night the line up went out the door and the servers were swamped. It was chaotic inside with a lot of confusion near the door. We sat near the front and it took a while to get a menu and service. The food is good, the fish light and crispy, I wish the chips were crisper. We'll go back and try the rest of their menu - I'm curious about their fish chowder and scallops and clams. But they definitely need more staff on the weekends.

Really good fish and chips. Maybe I should try other items, but I always stick with my haddock. A bit on the greasy side, but hey, it's fish and chips. Busy at times, so expect a wait. A reoccurring theme, no cutlery in the take out orders. Clean dining room and pleasant staff. Great location, park in the back there's a walkway to the street from the parking lot.

Had dinner here on March 24th; open 10 days now; service is a real issue, the waitresses are doing their best but they need a dedicated bus boy and someone to seat customers so waitresses can concentrate on serving customers. We did sit for a long time before being served. Food: portion sizes are good. My wife had the halibut with fries and Greek salad and I had the Cod, fries and Caesar salad. The fish is good but there is something missing from the batter - seasoning? Maybe it is too diluted? The fries were good but needed salt? Added at table but didn’t make a difference?? The tartar flavour is not sharp enough, needs more flavour. My wife loved the Greek salad. Maybe we will give it a few months before they can iron out these issues? Go early there are lineups! Liquor license is coming.

Finally got to the Halibut House with the wife and was not disappointed. The place is simple and unpretentious as a fish and chips should be. We were seated quickly and our orders taken quickly. The food was delivered fast and hot and the portions quite generous. I had the cod, she halibut. Both were tasty. She even couldn't quite finish her fish and had to take it home with her. As a nice touch they even offer canned soda and not just fountain. Will certainly will come back again!

Terrible experience. Ordered take out for Good Friday. They made us go in and pay in advance (Tuesday) for our food. When we arrived today, there were line ups outside the store. People ordering when they arrived for got their orders in 30 mins. We ordered 4 days in advance and waited from 4:30 to 6 pm. And the best part is that we had missing items in our order. Staff seems to be really confused with their procedures. Not to mention the amount of people waiting in the store without social distancing. Very disappointed.

My first time there and definitely will revisit. We had both grilled and battered halibut as our tasters. Fish for both were fresh and made to order. I like the battered halibut better because of it tasty and crispy battering. The Greek salad that came with it was good too. Jennifer, the sole server/order taker during the pandemic, is very friendly and attentive.

Mother’s Day, we ordered 3 dinners, 2 fish chowders, 1 coleslaw, 1 clam strips and gravy through UBEREATS Two of the dinners arrived with 3 coleslaws? The seafood platter was missing. All the food was lukewarm. We contacted Uber driver to see if possibly he left a bag in the car, not the case. We then contacted Ubereats. The one meal was reimbursed. We wanted a new meal, but wasn’t given the option. Tried contacting Halibut House, they were already closed. As we decided what to do since we were missing a meal, the food sat there. We decided to order a pizza. We may have been one of the last orders of the evening because the fish chowder was congealed, the clam strips were hard nuggets the halibut and the cod were rock hard, inedible! Really disappointing.

What a wonderful place. Amazing taste.. fresh, light We ordered seafood platter with haddock shrimp and scallops. Wow.. perfectly cooked juicy and tender. Also we ordered fish tacos. They were awesome. This is our 2nd visit and I loved those tacos which made me come back. And the server I could say cherry on the cake. She was so nice, warm and attentive. Went there for the first time today. They opened 4 days ago and since have been very busy. The key is to get there early. I arrived at 5:30 and by 6 the place was packed. I ordered the haddock with salad and fries. Salad was fresh and tasty. Fries were made out of real potatoes and were also very tasty. Haddock was golden crispy without the saturated oil and was excellent. Wishing the owner and staff which by the way we're very friendly best of luck. Restaurant was also very clean. Happy they opened this near me since I will definitely be back. I have read some of the negative reviews below which I personally feel are very unfair. The place has been open for less than a week and it takes time to get everything perfect. Lets welcome our new neighbor and wish them all the success.

We picked up four fish meals today to bring to a Father’s Day lunch - 2 orders of cod and chips, and 2 orders of grilled halibut with salad. The salads were fresh, but unfortunately the fish and chips were dry and overcooked. The fish was so hard and dry, and the fries were starchy and over-fried. We ended up throwing out half of our meals. We’ve been to this location a few times in the past and always enjoyed the food, but today it was just really, really bad. And it wasn’t just one meal that was bad - all four fish meals were really awful. A restaurant that specializes in fish and chips should be able to do one thing really well - make great fish and chips! - but today made us seriously reconsider visiting and recommending this restaurant again. We’ll have to look somewhere else for good fish and chips in the city :(

Came in for take out. The place was very busy, but the staff was working hard to get everyone food quickly. All the workers were doing their best to please the customers, but some customers will never be satisfied and were rude and impatient with the staff. Kudos to the workers for staying clam and friendly. The fish and chips were delicious and still piping hot when I got home. A great deal at 7 dollars on Sundays and Mondays.

We came early right at open. Apparently the server wasnt in yet (or late) but the cook Frank did everything himself. Put out the chairs for us, brought the drinks out, cooked the food. Extremely courteous and professional the whole time. If the owners are reading this, you need to give Frank a raise!

We have visited Thornhill Halibut House several times now after its recent opening. We previously used to go to HH in Markham on a Sunday for lunch and were never disappointed there. The first time we went to Thornhill we were given a leaflet full of discount vouchers which only ran out on 1st May, so each time we went back we were getting 2 x Halibut + chips for $16, or 2 x Haddock + chips for $13 etc - fantastic value! As for the food itself, it's first class. As usual, there are too many fries and we've never seen anyone eat all of them, ever, but the batter is crispy and the fish soft and tender inside for all types of fish. The menu is reasonably extensive, e.g. Greek food and different types of salads, all tasty and plentiful. HP sauce, tartar sauce, proper malt vinegar all supplied (sounds simple, but in some fish + chip restaurants, they are not, which is not authentic at all!). The service is great, yes, they were extremely busy in the first week of opening and it was extremely hectic, but even given the odd problem, the food is always delivered within around 10 minutes, which is excellent. There is plenty of parking at the back of the restaurant, where Walmart, Bulk Barn etc are. Just one or two areas of improvement - change the oil every single day, as just once or twice it was apparent that it wasn't done (as opposed to Markham which changes every day). The only other thing is that there is no breakfast menu (they say they are not allowed to offer it, not sure why), BUT they have added the most amazing cheesecakes from The Cheesecake Factory, which are absolutely delicious and reasonably priced. The restaurant is much less busy now, which means there is always a booth, but take out services are excellent too.

This is the place to go when you have that craving for Fish and Chips. Everything is freshly made and tastes great but it is very oily and heavy food so be forewarned. Also, they have $9 Haddock & Chips every Sunday and Monday and $10 Cod & Chips every Wednesday. You can't go wrong at those prices!

Overall the fish and chips were good but not more than that. The only thing is the PRICE, paid 18$ for a salad and piece of fish (no complaints on the quality). Average meal is 15-18$ for a fish and chips/salad. The food is way too basic for that price. I am comparing with “Heritage fish and chips” which is much better.

Amazing service well inside the restaurant, and the only one to have no bees outside!!! The food was delicious and definitely in a portion size I was not expecting for the price. Even though the amount of food was ALOT it didn't go cheep on the quality of the food. And the safety precautions are there, dividers between each booth, and a hand sanitizer dispenser at every wall and corner! The French Fry's are made fresh that's a 100% guarantee as I literally saw the sacks of Yukon Gold potatoes right near me fresh and still packed. The fish was extremely tasty and not over greasy. I went there the first time with my friend, and then I got take out with my family the second! A definite will return.

Amazing! We used to drive 2 hours to Oshawa to have this delicious seafood but now it has moved even closer! 15 min drive to get these delicious items. I reccomend the fish chowder and the Halibut and Greek salad! The fried mushroom appetizers are a must have. I am impressed that they offer the Cheesecake Factory desserts...????????????

Alot of these reviews say the food was fresh and good well not for me maybe they have their days but my food was hard and dry and overcooked my family didn't even finish everything I told them to just throw it out I feel like I wasted my money after the good reviews I saw this was not what I expected and a few amount of the other reviews say the same thing and the staff seem to not care about customer service tbh

When I first arrived I was seated pretty quickly but then it took about 25 minutes for my waitress to come. She then took out orders and I was pleasantly surprised to see grilled fish on the menu. For some reason they would only grill halibut so I ordered that, garlic bread and fries and a glass of water. It took about 7 minutes for my water to come and then maybe 15 for all my food. The garlic bread was quite nice but the fish was the worst food I had ever had from a reasturaunt. It was thick unappitzing and basically flavourless. It just looked like square of white cheese All you could really taste was the grease from the grill. I ate that with my garlic bread to try to give it some flavour but the texture was unbearable. Once I finished the fish I ate the fries which were the worst fries I’ve ever had period. Fish and chips places are usually famous for their fries but these were flavourless. They probably would of been ok if there was salt on the table but low and behold there wasn’t. I was drenching them in my ketchup to try to give them some flavor. My waitress actually forgot one of the orders at my table. So I’m giving this one star because all the food was awful and no where near reasturaunt quality. It took ages for my server to even come my table in the first place. The food came pretty quick but honestly how long does it take to make fish. The fried fish probably isn’t that bad because it all tastes the same. The final verdict is I would 100% not recommended this reasturant or at least the fries and Grilled “healthy” fish
