Helpful staff. Unfortunately not as clean as the downtown store and with less selection but that's likely due to building age and size. People at the hot food area will always factor in freshness of the stock and give you extra if it's not super fresh. Very fair and reasonable. I have had a couple incidents where the expiration date was ripped off the whole chickens and the pre-made fruit salad was gone bad but I think this is the result of a few careless people.

I believe Indepent supermarket is the only one here in yellowknife so there is no other supermarket that you can campare it with. It serves its purpose to the people in yellowknife. The place is organize and a lot of choices. In terms of freshness of the meats, i would say not so much because first the location, secondly the time frame they deliver rhe products. Overall, it is a supermarket and you will still enjoy buying your grocery over there.

The thing I love about Glen's is I see him working there every time, apparently his wife works even harder there. This is a breath of fresh air compared to Trevor's since I hardly see him doing anything. The only real problem I have with this grocer is they often run out of stock on just about anything but the staff are great when it comes to helping you find what you're looking for and you can get a cheap meal to go, if you like chicken.

Glen's (not) Independent might be considered the best grocery in this part of town, but only because it's the only grocery. The shop is dirty and overcrowded, but its worst offence is the low quality of food - it seems to be stocked with the aging products from the other Loblaw's grocery on Airport Road. The staff do their best, but with better training and a little less pressure there might be fewer boxes and pallets cluttering the narrow aisles. An excellent representative of Loblaw's attitude toward their customers.

This is in fact a grocery store. It's got a counter for fruits + veggies, a deli counter, a little sushi bar sort of set up, a bakery, a butcher, and a clothing section. Things are kept tidy, checkouts are easy, tends to be well stocked. Also has online ordering now, which is neat, more a convenience for people than anything and a service that still needs a bit of polish, but hey, it's there, and it works for what they've got in store.
